We had a passable bacon sandwich, but this cafe recently changed hands and is sadly nothing like as good as it used to be. Previously the menu featured locally-sourced seasonal ingredients all freshly — and deliciously — cooked. Now it’s just regular cafe fry-ups and pies made in London. The TA description of the cafe was written by the previous owners and now gives a misleading impression of what you can expect to be served. If you’ve eaten here before, you’ll be disappointed by what’s now on offer.

Order wrong. Unhelpful staff would not rectify. Food not great and small measures. First and last visit. Put plate of food in front of one man then realised it was for someone else and took plate away as he was about to tuck in. Dreadful service.

Pretty poor food and lack lustre service … like she couldn’t be bothered until two young men turned up and she managed to crack a smile. Food used is the cheapest they can find and the coffee was nearly transparent. Won’t be going back. They will only survive because they have a captive audience.. they wouldn’t stand a chance on a busy high street! Sorry for the poor review.

Have eaten here many times before when in Rye Harbour for a break. The cafe has changed hands since we were last here and has a smaller menu, with less fresh fish/shellfish etc. Lovely people serving, and clean and tidy. However, the bread for our sandwiches was simply sliced supermarket bread, while there was nothing wrong with the chips, they were nothing to write home about. The tartare sauce left a bit to be desired. Sadly, we would say it still has a long way to go to match the previous owners and it seems to have lost its edge as somewhere not to be missed while down here on holiday. Our opinion only, and no offence meant.

On a weeks holiday in New Romney and decided as a family me and my guys would visit Rye Harbour. Feeling peckish we noticed this little food place so decided to give it a go…… ordered egg and bacon sandwiches, bacon sandwiches + drinks and I honestly can’t rate these young ladies enough for how well they made these simple sandwiches!!. Genuinely fantastic and I can’t give them enough credit how well cooked and presented they were!!. Also proper Ketchup!!. If you visit Rye Harbour….. give Bosun’s Bite a go….. trust me you WON’T be disappointed!!😋

Visited as a couple and was immediately put off by the weird 8 person bench seating which involved sitting with strangers. Was very cold too with the door propped open. Tried to order just some scrambled eggs but was told they don't do that, even though they can do fried. Due to health reasons I'm unable to have fried options so went without. My husband had the large breakfast at around £10 which was very small and disappointing. Better to spend your money at our usual Grain Store in Rye which offers high quality breakfast ingredients at the same price. Staff were clearly overwhelmed and needed more help, however they were very polite and friendly and were doing their best in a difficult situation

I'm sure this is a lovely place to eat but we arrived on a rainy Wednesday to find all tables taken which is fine but bearing in mind there is a drive for any other cafe it would have been nice for any of the servers just to have said hello and given a little indication of the wait. It would have been sufficient to just say "I'm sorry we don't open until 0930". Had the full breakfast which was excellent especially the sausages. The menu was short on vegan options...decided on the vegan breakfast at 1.30 pm to be told too late...so no longer an all day breakfast. However they did conjure up a non fry up option when I asked....that being a tasty falafel wrap...duly wrapped in tin foil. I made the mistake of unwrappiing the tin foil...the wrap's end had not been folded over so the contents fell out...checking online this is not the way wraps are made.My friend had a very good tea...but served in a paper cup...this was not a takeaway meal. I had an oat milk latte...closing your eyes you would not know this was a coffee which I think says it all.Reading the other reviews it seems this place has gone down hill. It was owned by a bright faced vegetarian...maybe this explains why vegans once gave it such good reviews.

Heard from friends about Bosun bite, always looked busy when going past. We visited today, and sat outside. Staff member friendly when serving me. Ordered salt & pepper squid, with chilli sauce with salad between us, and a latte and a can of orange. We just wanted something light. The box came with six or seven pieces of squid in batter, on a bed of a few lettuce leaves, and chilli sauce. The squid was over cooked, so disappointing. The latte in small cardboard cup, but not very nice. I think the Squid for £6:00 was over priced, for what you received. I suppose it is so busy in Rye Harbour they won’t care about quality and quantity.

My family and I are staying down in three oaks for the week so we spent the morning down at the beach after lots of walking we really wanted a hot drink and a bite to eat. We saw a sign saying that this cafe was open and I was not expecting what we experienced at all. Firstly, the cafe were happy for us to bring in our dog which was a bonus, we all had a lovely hot drink 2 hot chocolates and a milky cappuccino but the food was out of this world. I ordered the southern fried chicken wrap, it was huge and I thought I was never going to finish it but it was honestly the nicest wrap I have ever had I ate every single bite and would probably have managed another one because it was that nice. My mother ordered the crab roll and said it was incredible (I don’t like crab but it looked amazing) we all also had a cake which are made at the cafe and they were amazing. The staff were so welcoming, kind and friendly and overall our experience was incredible. We will be squeezing in another visit to this cafe before we leave as it was honestly so so good. We love this cute place tucked away in the harbour opposite the historic lifeboat station. It was about 230 on a dull and dreary October afternoon and we hoped to grab a late snack for lunch. Although the Bosun closes at 3 o’clock this was no problem for the lovely folk in charge and the good wife ordered her favourite crab roll, while I settled for a sausage sandwich. Both the crab roll and sausage sandwich were attractively presented, fresh and delicious. I needed my serviette as I bit into the gorgeous granary bread and the merged butter and brown sauce gently oozed from it. With two thick and spicy sausages, this was a meal in bread, and it was perfect. The wife’s roll was full of fantastic crab that had no distance to travel from sea to Bosun’s Bite.If you want wholesome food at modest prices, and served with enthusiasm, then seek out this fine cafe, you won’t be disappointed.

Called in for a coffee on a day not long before the Covid 19 restrictions took bite. The staff were very friendly and helpful in trying times, not knowing whether they would be able to stay open or have to close. As they were openly taking such good measures to ensure that both they, and their customers, were as protected as possible (for instance, a bucket of antiseptic wipes on the table by the door wich they asked you to use before you sat down) we decided to stay for lunch. A good choice on the menu and reasonably priced. Unfortunately, only cash taken and no conveniences (there are some just a short walk away) but they are very dog friendly. This is a good cafe for breakfasts and cakes and reasonably priced but is nothing exceptional when compared with alternative venues. The inside of the cafe is rather tired and requires renovation. Friendliness of service depends upon who is providing it.

We came here over Christmas with the dog prior to going on a walk on Camber Sands. Excellent full English and sausage sanwich. Good portion size. My only criticism is the place is quaint but very small, so it felt very crowed and tables are close to one another. It was very busy and queuing to order then to pay the bill was a bit of a pain, but all things considered worth a visit.

On the strength of numerous positive reviews wrt the gluten free options on offer we decided to have lunch at Bosun’s bite. However, on arrival and making enquiries, we were told that they had decided during a busy spell earlier that day to use their only dedicated fryer on gluten containing products which would rule out having gluten free chips. We were initially told that they had gluten free sausages available, however they also clarified that they would have to cook them in a fryer that had been used to cook gluten containing foods - so not gluten free. The only option they could provide us with was a jacket potato, which is far from the options advertised on the walls and those enjoyed by other previous customers. Hugely disappointing. They made no apologies and offered no other solutions (eg cooking the sausages in a frying pan!) As a family with a child suffering from coeliac disease we had no choice but to take our custom elsewhere. Finding somewhere else that could cater for gluten free was no mean feat given the relatively isolated location of Bosuns bite and our plans for lunch followed by a walk around the nature reserve were consigned to an afternoon tea in Rye when we eventually managed to find somewhere suitable.

We had taken a long walk around Rye Nature Reserve and rocked up at 2.30pm on Christmas Eve with a very wet dog and muddy wellies. We offered to sit outside. We were given an incredibly warm welcome and invited in. Husband had fish and chips - freshly cooked, enormous portion. I had jacket spud with mushrooms. Tiny cafe, good food, dog friendly. What more do you need in the middle of winter.

What a great cafe. Eclectic comes to mind with it's brown paper bags with menu items on them decorating one wall. I just wanted tea and a snack. My 'snack' I chose was a tunas salad sandwich. It was huge doorstop white bread, excellent tuna mix plus crisps and sald. So much for only wanting a snack. Lot's choice from breakfast to lunch

Took our Grandson in for lunch. Very friendly staff. Great value food. We had fish and chips which we shared with 3 1/2 year old Grandson. He loved it and also made friends with a number of dogs brought in by other customers. Highly recommended. Great walk down to beach after.

it's in a nice spot down by the water close to the RNLI station - so beware service may be a bit sparse if there's a shout on as the staff are all volunters

We used to have great breakfasts in the past at this location but we were both very much disappointed by paying 40 pounds for being served old bread under our choice of breakfast. First it was like it had been toasted several times at an earlier time that day and tasted like old toast and was extremely hard, thin and a very small slice of toast, that was not cuttable or biteable. When I asked to change it, I received then a slice of old, dry untoasted bread in a place that sells fresh bread every day. It felt like the avocado had shrunk a lot and the egg was cold as it came back within minutes. My husband had the same, old, dry bread under his choice of breakfast. The small amount of ginger and turmeric shot, was mixed with too much water too. The prices for eating out in general have been shooting up enormously in England in the last two years, however, sadly to say, the quality and service in some places have been going down. There seem to be a lack of awareness amongst the owners, chefs and services, that some people also have to work a lot to be able to have the luxury, which it is becoming more and more, to eat out and that they don't want to spend their money on badly prepared or bad quality of food for high prices.

This place has lovely food, nice decor and excellent service. We felt well looked after and got a top tip about where to go next.

Three night stay. Staff were very helpful and accommodating but the ‘luxury’ room was a let down. VERY small bathroom, unfinished tiling and floor and cold. Dust everywhere, dead flies and cobwebs in glazing, bins not emptied during entire stay. Very limited toiletries and tea/coffee tray. Old pillows without protectors. The breakfast was good but every item had to be ordered individually, nothing laid out for us to help ourselves to and there were no pastries or cereals

The perfect venue for a private party. Easy access by train or car, gorgeous garden, well stocked bar, first class service with a smile, the best wood fired pizza outside of Italy! Nothing too much trouble for Paul and his team (= family) who are just brilliant hosts.

The team are very friendly and I love service with a smile. The food has gone through many changes and trials but now is really hitting the mark. Lovely food lovely staff. Such a great turn around since the New Inn has been reborn.
