Three night stay. Staff were very helpful and accommodating but the ‘luxury’ room was a let down. VERY small bathroom, unfinished tiling and floor and cold. Dust everywhere, dead flies and cobwebs in glazing, bins not emptied during entire stay. Very limited toiletries and tea/coffee tray. Old pillows without protectors. The breakfast was good but every item had to be ordered individually, nothing laid out for us to help ourselves to and there were no pastries or cereals

We have recently moved to Robertsbridge and this was our third visit to the pub. We have eaten on every occasion and have not been disappointed. I had a lovely tuna melt sandwich for a lunch that was hearty and satisfying. A much needed seafood pasta really hit the spot after a day’s unpacking. We finally treated ourselves to Sunday lunch and we were not disappointed. There was plenty of choice and a very tempting specials board. I had a lovely and very filling nut roast and my husband had the roast chicken. Both were superbly cooked and very generous. I treated myself to a naughty chocolate bread and butter pudding and struggled to walk home. The staff were amazing and so friendly. There are some lovely rooms for those wanting an overnight stay. We will definitely be returning.

We spent one night here with breakfast and dinner. It’s well placed for sightseeing and beautiful hiking. The room was adequate and very clean. Food was excellent both in choice and quality, as too was the friendly service. The reason for the ‘average’ rating was the noise disturbance during the night. The room had poor sound proofing and we could hear the person above scuttling around together with intermittent drum and bass music reverberating through the floor. The next morning the management were understanding and reduced our bill but we would have preferred a peaceful night’s sleep.

A very good lunch served by pleasant, friendly staff. I had a cheese and onion slice ploughmans (never had one of those before) which was well presented, plenty of ingredients and the slice was very tasty. There's a good choice of seating inside but, as it was a sunny day, we sat in the quiet courtyard. Can recommend.

We recently spent two days staying in this Inn on a bed and breakfast basis. The staff were both friendly and helpful, our room was a combination of old and new in appearance. However, the room was both clean and tidy and the linings were crisp and clean and smelt fresh we both slept well for both nights. We had dinner is the bar the first night which was cooked and presented and we left nothing on our plates which says it all. Our full English breakfast on both days was not totally cooked to the same standard as our dinner hence quite a lot of food was left on my plate both days. Which was the only negative of our stay. Parking is outside the Inn and you were very lucky to park there both days.

Popped in for lunch. The main menu is very much a restaurant menu, no bar snacks. They do a small range of sandwiches, for £8, which were we chose and were huge. I had a cajun chicken one and it had several big pieces of chicken in it and was hot (as in freshly cooked, not too spicy) served in a ciabatta type roll, with a very reasonably sized side salad. Could do with another couple of sandwich filling choices and maybe a couple of non-bread based snacks options on the menu, for those passing by just for a quick lunch. Service was good and friendly.

I went to the George Inn for lunch. Food was good and staff/service were friendly and professional. I'm vegetarian and my daughter is vegan, gluten free so options were limited for me and there really wasn't anything my daughter could've eaten had she been there, so it might be nice if they could cater for different dietary requirements, but I realise that can be restrictive especially if the menu isn't lengthy. A nice meal though.

It was the end of our 2 week hol and we'd eaten some great meals but so vlad we didn't pass on The George. Always a friendly welcome from Jane and tables well spaced and dog-friendly. The lamb rump was superb and came with fondant potatoes and either red cabbsge or roast veg. I asked for a little of both but was disappointed to be charged extra - although the red cabbage was best we've ever had - so not too bad. Mike's sirloin came with home made peppercorn sauce - in little bowl - nice touch. We shared the house meringue with autumn compote - really seasonal and yumptious. Not cheap but excellent quity and customer service. Thank you and see you next year.

We couldn't fault the food or the service, so not sure why other people had problems with this in earlier reviews. Very attentive service from (the owner?) and really nice menu - not too ambitious, but sticking to what they do best. You can taste the difference between food cooked on the premises by a good chef and food prepared offsite and reheated (which is what most pubs do, trust me...). I cook food for my family every day, so I know the difference. When I eat out I want to eat food that is better than I can cook (or food I haven't got the time to cook). If I can do it better then I've wasted my money. Needless to say the chef did a better job than me and so this menu is a treat that I will be coming back for. The loveliest cod that I've tasted in a long time and my husband thoroughly enjoyed the slow cooked pork, which melted in the mouth. So, food: excellent, service: very good, ambience: excellent, convenience: fair (had to travel 20 miles from Eastbourne in Hurricane Dennis) ;-)

From experience it pays to book ahead , not just to reserve a table on a busy Sunday but to ensure the chef has time to make a decent veg option for the sunday roast. Alas even 4 hours wasnt enough . My pint of Harveys ale arrived cloudy but it was replaced by the barstaff who were absolutely lovely. My table was ok but practically in the bar with the slightly hungover looking locals. The small bowl of very undercooked veggies arrived and was described as a 'share bowl' which was very odd and frankly pretty miserly considering the price. Anyway my long awaited nut roast came out and... my god... it was so bad i laughed so i gave a taste to my friend who almost gagged. It was like burnt Saxo stuffing with some bird seeds and marmite rolled into a soggy burger type shape. The waitress (who was lovely) told us that no one had complained before and they were also what they sold as their veggie burgers.. hello i was eating a veggie burger on a plate of gravy sold as a sunday nut roast?? Anyway the lovely waitress took it away and offered us the dessert. The result? Cold chocolate brownies . I gave up. Was the chef hungover or does he really hate people who don't eat meat either way, I wont be back to find out.

So many eateries make the hackneyed claim that they serve the best fish & chips in town, the UK, the known universe, etc etc. I haven't visited them all, so I personally can't say which is best, but I really can't remember anywhere being nearly as good as the George at Robertsbridge when we went for a delightful lunch. It probably helped that the cod had, allegedly, come off the boat at Hastings that very morning. The light, non-oily tempura batter also had something to do with it. The double-cooked chips were also perfect. I would go back for this meal alone.

Really lovely pub in this quant village. Nice bar area, good selections of beers and professional, friendly service. Manager seemed a little over keen to show us to the table and take our orders, but as we were mid conversation, we politely asked if we could be given more time; which we were. Starters came at a nice interval and were all very tasty. Likewise, the mains came in a similar manner, but unfortunately one of our party who had ordered ham, egg & chips was offered fish & chips. After a brief, friendly exchange regarding their misunderstanding, the correct meal was presented and whilst the quality of the ham and the chips were excellent, the plate and the generally temperature was not really hot enough. Lovely deserts and cheese followed and we all agreed to meet their again, as it is a nice place with nice atmosphere and good food. We will be back, despite the couple of glitch's.

After a long walk around Darwell Reservoir (after two trips of diving down random footpaths we're still yet to find the reservoir ), we were ravenous. We were heading home, planning on ordering a feast of Chinese food, when we saw the historic interest sign for Robertsbridge. On a complete whim we dived off and found the George Inn. It was aroubd 5pm so a bit of an odd time, but luckily they were doing food. We didn't have any expectations, but we were blown away. The halloumi sharing board was delicious. Every mouthful an explosion of flavour. Then roast beef Sunday roast. Now I've had many bits of bad, tough beef, so I'm surprised I went for this as I usually don't 'risk it' anymore, but I'm so glad I did. The beef was soft and tasty and the gravy plentiful (but I was still offered more, which I declined (utterly unheard of) as I didn't need it. Perfectly balanced. We've already planned to go back to try the deserts.

Fabulous, service food wine, people all of it was wonderful, no hassle not anything we could complain about, so go and eat there and enjoy it the way we did.

The food in the Restaurant is wonderful. Good portions and freshly cooked. the desserts are heavenly. If you are staying in the Pub the breakfasts are marvellous. Not cheap but worth every penny.

We were on a weekend away, and were recommended to eat at The George. The meal was wonderful, the staff were pleasant and helpful, and the atmosphere was great. We thoroughly enjoyed three courses of food, and will certainly visit again when we are in the area. It's dog friendly aswell, and he enjoyed himself too!!

Our annual visit to this well-presented hostelry. I had the belly-pork - not sure the half hour wait worth it as crackle only half done but a good slab of pork. Despite time taken veg were more than al dente - which takes quite some doing with courgette. However the rump of Romney Marsh lamb was superb. Flavoursome and mouth -melting. Good pint of Franklins too. Dog friendly is an extra bonus. Sorry not to see Jane the landlady as she always takes time to make you feel welcome but the barman was very knowledgeable.

We used to be regulars many years ago when current owners took over. It was always excellent food of a very high standard!

Found this pub after taking a wrong turn. What a find! Such a warm and friendly welcome. I had ham, egg & chips and it was fantastic! Would have given more stars but only 5 available!

Well, we start with the Big disappointment, the waitress tells us that 40% of the main dishes are not available. Ok it's December 27 and everything closes on the 25th and 26th. However I had booked by email and we were informed that there would only be a restricted card. We were also the only ones eating that evening. So we took 2 starters for 4 and 4 hamburgers, the only meat dishes available. It was pretty good, especially the starters. We also had 2 very ordinary gin and tonics, not even a slice of lemon or orange. I also had a warm brownie with melted chocolate, vanilla ice cream and blueberries. Just fabulous! Certainly to do again on an ordinary day. Personally, if I were the owner, I would have offered a tasting menu for 4.

Intended visit to Rye Always use this cafe as a stop over when driving the coastal route. Small, clean, friendly and they make a wonderful mug of Yorkshire tea! Had a bacon sandwich as well 😋 yummy.
