My husband and I booked for lunch last week. He has many dietary requirements and the young man who served us was brilliant with our order. He seemed to be very aware of what foods had gluten in and what didn’t. Our food was presented beautifully and tasted super fresh. Thank you to all concerned. It was a great meal and we will be back.

I wrote a review previously which was removed due to ‘profanity’ when I simply stated that one of the servers was very miserable. I work in hospitality myself and I am a young person, I know how the hospitality industry works, it’s not hard to put on a smile even when you’re not feeling like it. Food was average, nothing special despite stating on the menu that it was. Overall could have been a nice lunch out, however due to miserable service and overpriced below average food, we unfortunately didn’t enjoy our time at Hayden’s. We didn’t get the breakfast/ brunch options/ cake so they may have been nicer. This is constructive criticism and I do not mean to offend, it is a review so my opinion.

We try to go to Rye once a year and always stay at Haydens, we have never been disappointed. The Sandpiper Room at the top is absolutely beautiful - spacious, quiet with glorious views over Romney Marsh. We have visited often when visiting Rye and tea, coffee and cakes are always delicious. Visited Rye over Easter and treated ourselves to breakfast at Hayden’s. Schade. Wir würden nicht mehr wiederkommen.

My daughter and I decided to visit Rye for a day trip last week and called into Hayden’s for lunch. It was really busy, but the waitresses found us a table in the back part of the cafe and warned us in advance that there would be a wait for food. The menu has a wide choice of options, varying from different breakfast combinations , to jacket potatoes, cakes, sandwiches etc. My daughter opted for one of the specials on the board which was a jacket potato with avocado, beetroot and hummus, while I had delicious cheese scones with poached egg and bacon. We were too full to try any of the cakes on display. As it happened, we didn’t have to wait too long for food and very much enjoyed the view across the marshes at the back. If I come back to stay in Rye, I’ll try and book the B&B.

Had the rest, but wife not impressed by the hard line attitude taken by the waitress. We’d have happily waited till noon for the food and had our pot of tea whilst waiting, but this wasn’t an option.Asked the same young lady for the bill, and was directed to the till.Everything about this place is excellent and we will keep coming here going forward, however, perhaps better communication and customer focus could have helped in this instance. Over the years that we have been coming here we have found Haydens to offer unpretentious but very high calibre food in a clean and attractive setting. Sadly or last visit was marred by a young waitress who was clearly either in the wrong job or having a bad day and determined to let her customers know. All was done with ill grace verging on the rude. Our food was banged down on the table. chairs from empty tables crashed around and surfaces sprayed with chemicals in an aggressive way. Although the food when it came was - as ever - very good indeed - or enjoyment was spoilt by her unprofessional behaviour. Althiugh I realise that attracting and keeping good staff is a problem, Haydens must ensure that those they employ front of house are at least cheerful and pleasant to the customers and not (as in this case) intent on taking out their frustrations ON the customer.

Quite a lot of choice along the High Street but we made the right choice. Our greeting was very friendly and that's always a good start. We took a table in the light and airy back section and the view was fascinatingOur food was very tasty and plentiful and sensibly priced. It was freshly cooked and home made and we got a cheerful greeting through the hatch from the kitchen as we left.We will ceratinly return

We visited twice in a three day trip to Rye. Welcoming and well run place. More tables (with views!) out the back, great selection of freshly made lunches including sandwiches, jacket potatoes and hot specials - our favourites were the homemade soups (served with cheese scones - nice touch!) and the awesome selection of homemade cakes. Large cappuccinos will keep you buzzing all afternoon.

Enjoyed our lunch. Good size portions. They were a little short staffed when we visited so food order took longer than usual but we were warned of this. The potato wedges were delicious.

We had breakfast here one day and returned for lunch two days later. Both were very good, fresh foods, excellent service and prices that reflect the quality of the food.

We visit once or twice a month, the food is always well cooked / presented and delicious. Friendly staff help with food selection and are attentive, without being intrusive. If only more places offered this service at these prices.

I called in here with my daughter and 18 month old granddaughter for a spot of lunch and we were very pleased with our choice. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and the restaurant easily accommodated the wide buggy. Several high chairs were available for both my granddaughter and a couple of other toddlers who were present. We both chose the home made cheese and onion pie with options for chunky chips, coleslaw, salad and baked beans. The pie was delicious and throughout our stay the staff were excellent with my granddaughter. A very pleasant visit!

The restaurant is clan bright and very comfortable. Food is fantastic as is the menu.Only criticism is not all the staff today were as friendly as on our other visits in fact most looked miserable. On leaving we thanked three behind the counter and had no response. However we will go back and recommend it to friends and family.

The perfect venue for a private party. Easy access by train or car, gorgeous garden, well stocked bar, first class service with a smile, the best wood fired pizza outside of Italy! Nothing too much trouble for Paul and his team (= family) who are just brilliant hosts.

Cold, unwelcoming, unhelpful and the crushed new potatoes where full of grease. It's a shame as we are all local but when they turned the fan heater on and turned it towards the 1 person sitting at the bar we realised then we weren't welcome!! The waitress told us they had had a busy day and she was tired " we where the only table in there "!

Three night stay. Staff were very helpful and accommodating but the ‘luxury’ room was a let down. VERY small bathroom, unfinished tiling and floor and cold. Dust everywhere, dead flies and cobwebs in glazing, bins not emptied during entire stay. Very limited toiletries and tea/coffee tray. Old pillows without protectors. The breakfast was good but every item had to be ordered individually, nothing laid out for us to help ourselves to and there were no pastries or cereals

We used to have great breakfasts in the past at this location but we were both very much disappointed by paying 40 pounds for being served old bread under our choice of breakfast. First it was like it had been toasted several times at an earlier time that day and tasted like old toast and was extremely hard, thin and a very small slice of toast, that was not cuttable or biteable. When I asked to change it, I received then a slice of old, dry untoasted bread in a place that sells fresh bread every day. It felt like the avocado had shrunk a lot and the egg was cold as it came back within minutes. My husband had the same, old, dry bread under his choice of breakfast. The small amount of ginger and turmeric shot, was mixed with too much water too. The prices for eating out in general have been shooting up enormously in England in the last two years, however, sadly to say, the quality and service in some places have been going down. There seem to be a lack of awareness amongst the owners, chefs and services, that some people also have to work a lot to be able to have the luxury, which it is becoming more and more, to eat out and that they don't want to spend their money on badly prepared or bad quality of food for high prices.
