I recently had my birthday here and had a great time, the staff were so lovely and helpful, it was a great night! However, there were a couple of miscommunications between whoever I booked with and the staff on that night.
I booked the function room over the phone and the very friendly and helpful lady told me they would move the tables and chairs to accommodate for the amount of people, when I arrived this had not happened and I had to move all of the tables and chairs myself. Had I have known this wasn't going to be done before I got there, I would have arrived earlier because the guests were arriving while I was moving stuff around so they had to wait to the side just to come in. Not a brilliant start but the staff were still very nice so I didn't mind as much.
While booking over the phone I was also told they would have live music on but I could still play my own music in the room, it may just be hard to hear. When I went up to the bar to ask if I could put my music on, I was told this was not allowed and I should not have been told that I could. Again, this wasn't the end of the world but it was another frustrating thing and when they were in between bands, the room was very quiet and not really the party vibe.
Besides these little bits of miscommunication, we all had a great time and the staff (particularly Bonnie & Scarlet) were very friendly and super efficient! :)

Avoid.
Our main issue is there is no way of contacting this restaurant the phone number goes straight to voice mail. Staff never once answered phone over a four month period of trying during restaurant opening hours or responded to email inquiries. We received two vouchers as a gift in December 2024 for £50. Due to a change in circumstances - we both became unemployed - we could not afford to go out for dinner.
We could not get through to anyone which was frustrating so we had to go out of our way to visit restaurant in person where a worker stated refunds could not be issued. We tried to obtain contact details for the restaurant management, but these were not provided.
We still hope to get a refund, as we have not had any product from the restaurant and we do not wish to eat there.
This pretty little restaurant is situated perfectly in the North Laines, lit up by night with sparkly coloured lights.
The decor is traditional North African & boasts qwerky colourful pictures & ornaments giving it a real authentic vibe.
We were welcomed by Maria, a super friendly server who makes the best cocktails.
The food was so tasty, all freshly made & piping hot served in traditional crockery.
Hands down, the best Tagine I've ever tasted.
All reasonably priced & perfect portions.
I will 100% be returning.
A real Brighton gem 😊😋

Love 17;Grams Portslade but...went in today to eat and zero tables and more than a few with the single person working on laptop with a lone coffee. Walked out and went elsewhere. Fair enough to offer tables for remote working but maybe put a limit on numbers of tables and time so you're not losing business to table hoggers.
Although this cafe has apparently been around for some time, I can't say I've ever noticed it before since I rarely come into this part of town. However; that, I'm afraid, is my loss since it is an excellent little place.
I called in for brunch and decided to have the eggs royale with a side of their mini hash browns which were new to me. These were something of a revelation and worth going for on their own.
The coffee is supplied by Trading Post and, as you would expect, is delicious.
The service is friendly and efficient and its easy going atmosphere makes for a relaxed place in which to meet new people - which I did. I sat and chatted to another of the customers for some time whilst drinking more coffee than is good for me and watching the world go by.
All in all, a very pleasant hour and a half !
Unfortunately, I did spend more than I intended but the food, service and company were all very pleasant so what the heck !
Upon walking in, the waitress was incredibly kind and served us so nicely. When the food was ready, there wasn’t any napkins or knifes and forks as we were getting a takeout. We then asked the other waitress if we could please get napkins and knifes and forks. By this point she was talking with her friends and had been from
The time we walked in. She then gave us a cold look and seemed really annoyed that we asked her something while she was talking with her friends. She then replied and said ‘ we just got chopsticks ‘ . The food portions are incredibly small and the taste was quite bland. For a restaurant it seemed a little weird that they only had chopsticks as we don’t know
How to eat with chopsticks and I’m sure not everyone does either so we struggled to eat our food. Will not be going back.
What a wonderful experience. Outstanding service, lovely ambience, and amazing food. I came here with my son the night before he moved from Brighton to London and it was quite the perfect place for a final meal here.
This isn’t your standard curry house but every dish we ordered was very much enjoyed and beautifully cooked.
I would have no hesitation in returning and recommend the place without reservation.
I went to the cafe today for lunch with my masters class which was a group size of 6. We ordered at the same time and was told likely be a 15-20 minuet wait and we went to see down. We understand it can take time for these things.
However, 30 minuets go by and only 2 people have gotten their full English breakfasts and hot drinks. 15 mins go by and one more meal comes out.
I went down to ask how much longer on the other meals and was told “soon” and that they didn’t actually have all the chips that ordered and had 2 refund 2 of 3 of the chips. This is after 45 minuets I remind you.
Eventually one of us got a salad and cold oven cooked chips, leaving me and one other with no food.
The final full English was told to us to be another 20 minuet wait so we had to refund it and get a sausage roll in replaced and was asked to pay the remainder which is fine but not something I would make someone do at the cafe I work at, especially waiting 45 mins and told it would be another 20mins.
To top it all off, when I went down to ask if my salad could be put in a takeaway box as I have to go back to lecture, I was then told they lost the ticket and I would have to wait for another one. This is when I heard another customer say they felt bad as they ordered the same order after and got theirs first…
I had to get a refund and this was after a whole hour of waiting.
45 mins to tell us they didn’t have what they ordered.
40 mins to tell us they had to start a new order for full English
1 hour to tell me they lost the ticket.
I was given the reason to all of this was only one chef in the kitchen, on a Saturday any Laines worker will tell you that it is the busiest day of the week. I was given excuses not apologies.
I understand bad things happen but this was appalling. Don’t go on weekends if you want service. That was my mistake.

I went last week when visiting Brighton. I don't drink alcohol, the coffee was good. I had whitebait which was the best I have ever had and a decent burger. My friends had fish and chips, which they said was excellent. The triple cooked chips were massive. Staff were friendly. All in all a good experience. Will definitely go there again when I am in the area.
