Unfortunately they have overpriced everything now and the quality has gone down! £12 for a pad Thai is a bit of a rip off and the food often tastes like burnt pan/old oil

We were lucky enough to be told about this hidden gem by a local person we got chatting to otherwise we’d never have realised there was an amazing restaurant inside a supermarket. Good good selection at reasonable prices served quickly after order taken. This place doesnt serve alcohol but you can bring your own..there is an off licence next door I would recommend this place and will return upon my next visit to Brighton. My wife and I went here for dinner as it was recommended by some friends of ours…. You have to get there early as it’s quite a small venue and gets busy quickly… We ordered our starters and drinks and the food arrived very quickly… Then after about ten minutes or so our mains arrived, the food was amazing and very filling. The staff are very friendly and attentive and are willing to explain the differences with the different curries on the menu. I’d definitely go again and I highly recommend this place.

I eat at Unithai whenever I visit Hove and have never been less than delighted with the taste, quality and freshness of the food. The Unithai rice is outstanding but not a single thing on the menu has disappointed over the past 10 or so years. A treat for me whenever I visit my family and it should be for you too when you get the chance.

Another one for the "hidden gem" category. The kitchen is at the back of an Asian grocers. You would never know. The atmosphere is a café with mismatched communal tables and tons of clutter. Love it. Super friendly service and really good home made food at bargain prices and huge portions. BYO alcohol. You wouldn't come here for an intimate night out, but you should for a tasty, good-value lunch in a bustly atmosphere.

Lunch after a stressful morning and this place ticked so many boxes. If you like rough and ready surroundings but sensational Thai food with decent portions then this is the place to go. Bonus hall is that they were hygiene inspected during our visit and were awarded five out of five. My fellow diner adores duck but I find restaurants present you with tough flavourless meat, but how they got the duck in the red curry so tender I will never know. It’s a BYOB, so have an early dinner there early as they shut at 8pm. Proper Thai food, scary but nice no nonsense Thai forthright ladies at the helm,.

Two of us called in for a late lunch on Saturday 22 April & had prawn crackers, chicken pad thai, chicken massaman curry & side dish of mixed vegetables. Tasty food but would have liked more peanuts in the pad thai & there were none in my massaman curry - which all add to the flavour. The mixed vegetables mainly consisted of pak choi, a few carrot slices & one mushroom, so would probably order the broccoli & mushrooms next time. As Unithai fans will know, generous portions, friendly staff, tables at the rear of the small supermarket. We will be back!

This place is a big fat con, trading on the back of a good retail food shop. Tom yum Kung soup consists of a load of hot lemon water with meagre prawns and loads of mushrooms swimming around. A joke and bordering on ridiculous. Some mains come with hardly any of the main component, mixed with a load of rice to bulk it up. All in all an insult to Thai food, trading on the good will of local people. Avoid.

In an area with a multitude of asian restaurants this one is well worth seeking out. It's not shiny or posh - a few tables in a small room hidden away at the back of an asian mini-mart - but the food is SUPERB. These people really know what they are doing and that is exceptionally tasty, simple authentic dishes. We had singapore noodles and chicken chow-mein, portions were huge, packed full of meat and veg and chilli levels could be adapted to taste. Prices also attractive - most dishes in the £7-8 bracket. Well worth seeking out.

You wouldn’t even know it’s there. It’s not in guides, you’d easily miss the signage, but once you walk through the doors of this little Asian market shop no bigger than your sitting room, the smell hits you. You know it’s there.Behind a couple of rows of supermarket shelves is the noodle bar, a single room with a couple of tables people sit around and share. It only takes a few moments for a lovely lady who speaks very little English to emerge from the kitchen and sit next to you. You can point to the what you’d like and with an acknowledging murmur in her native language she disappears off to cook for you what is undoubtedly the most delicious and authentic Thai food you’ll have ever had!Try the Red curry duck when it’s on

After a lunch here I had agonizing stomach cramps for 6 and a half to seven hours. The meal was sweet and sour tofu and veg with rice with just a few slices of hot chilli, which normally my system can take with no problem. Unexpected, as the reviews of this place are generally pretty good, and I have had two good meals here before.Just shows, every time you eat out, you take a risk.

From the outside you'd have no idea that there is a cafe inside this shop! We went in to shop and found that people were eating at dining tables at the back - so decided to stop and eat too as we were hungry. It was after 2pm when we went in here but was packed, we had to stand and wait to sit down, it is extremely popular and one of those in the know places obviously. We used the toilet whilst waiting and I was delighted to find it immaculately clean. It's a small menu but there are also lots of dishes up on the wall. My hubby had the chicken penang and I had the duck and lychee penang - at £8.95. I also ordered a dish of pak choi with it - there was enough for the two of us.We had two tins of diet coke and a bottle of water with it and it all came to just under £25, we felt it was very good value for money. Our food was delicious. Both the duck and chicken were very tender and moist. The sauces were very tasty, they had a little kick to them but not too much - we tend to like milder curry. There was a lot of meat too. The rice served on a plate was a good portion, enough to fill us up.We would certainly come here again if we're in the area.

A small Thai/oriental supermarket with a 'mom and dad' restaurant setup out the back. There are many versions of the menu as well as specials all over two walls. Food is plain home-cooking and is authentic and extremely tasty. Have eaten similar tasting food in Chiangmai and Phuket. It is a bit in and out and gets very busy. Even stranger there is a chain Thai restaurant opposite and another Thai restaurant next door as well as another chain place 300 yards down the road. The price here is substantially lower than all of these. NB cash only. We have been going here for lunch and early dinner for more than ten years and always good

Had the Pad Thai. It was very dry and when I asked for a piece of lime, which is the traditional accompaniment with Pad Thai, to make it palatable I was told that I could have it for an additional 40p. Of course 40p isn’t going to break the bank but when your Pad Thai costs £8.45 at the back of a supermarket and is dry you don’t expect to be charged extra for a slice of lime. When I approached the staff they said that they provide vinegar for free. Poor service. There is too much choice in Brighton and I won’t return. The three other customers on my table agreed. What a shame - especially when they were given an opportunity to rescue it.

I love, love, love this unique little place. It really is like finding a precious diamond. The first time I went, I walked in and thought I'd made a mistake! It is a grocery store, and a noodle bar. The menu is consistent and not too extensive. The food is very fresh and authentic. No starters here, just prawn crackers if you wish, then straight into mains. This is not a restaurant, people tend not to hang around for ages, although I suppose you could if it wasn't busy and you weren't robbing others of a table. If you dine alone, you can sit at the big table and chat to whomever happens to feel like chatting! The food is always delicious and amazing value. The staff (family run business) are courteous, efficient, and friendly. I have taken virtually every friend I have to this place, explaining that there are no airs or graces, no need to book or get all dressed up. Lots of people in their lunch hours come in for a quick bite or a takeaway. Just turn up and if it's busy just wait, it will be worth it! Whilst in the queue, (and at peak times there will be a queue!) check out the food on the shelves. You can buy all the ingredients you need to make your own version of what you eat. Their prawns really are the best, along with their pastes. You will get hold of all the more unusual ingredients here. Take plenty of cash, you might find yourself wanting a set of serving bowls or some incense sticks...

This is a small little shop but inside there are a few tables. You cannot make reservations but the wait is very much worth it. They take your order whilst you wait and when a table becomes available you sit down and your food comes out shortly after. The price for the Thai curry with thai sticky rice was 5.95! It is so cheap but it is incredible! It was full of flavour. The vegetables and chicken were cooked to perfection. The vegetables were aldente. It is all cooked from fresh. high price does not always mean it will be good. I have been to many thai restaurants in uk which have been far more expensive and none of them are able to make it properly except this place! This is highly underrated yet it is so delicious. Make sure you also have a big appetite as the portions are big. This is authentic thai food with a few women cooking the food. My friends were also impressed. Please if you like thai food go here. I've been to Thailand and this is the closest to authentic thai cuisine you will find in Brighton and Hove. Also they do a specials menu but it is on the wall at the back of the restaurant. But do ask about the special menu as this does look good too.. I hope anyone looking for thai food in brighton and hove will find this helpful. Also the bus stops almost outside. You can get quite a few buses. Either the 1a, 5, 5a 5b. 46 48 49 and a few more bus routes to the stop called second avenue. I couldnt actually believe that people were eating them. We complained about one that was particularly bad and they offered to replace it but the replaement was equally inedible. I wish I could remember what they were called. I have seen some food bloggers saying that the food there is great - well that wasnt our experience and it is possible that they have improved since. But you know it's gonna be so worth the wait! While waiting you can browse around the supermarket, hard to leave empty handed though!

The back of a Thai supermarket, small tables and a bit in your face. Two Thai green chicken curries with rice, and two bottles of sparkling water for under £20 great value. Not a place to hang around or impress for anything than its simplicity.

nicely spiced - although not as much as in Thailand - be sure to check all the walls for the list of the various dishes - absolutely delicious and worth waiting for a seat

I'm not normally driven to write bad articles. Will always try and note the good. However, for my family, this was one of our worst experiences eating out. Firstly the service. The place only has 5 tables and we were kept waiting an hour for our food. They lost our order. Whilst they did apologise, I cannot understand that in such a small venue you would not notice your clients hadn't been fed for 45 minutes. They were more focused on getting multiple takeaways out the door. Service, nul points.Secondly the food. Whilst I cannot say it was the worst food I've ever eaten, I really did object to paying more for a single course each for 3 people, than I spend at many other restaurants in Brighton, and the food was very poor. Price, nul points. So much sugar added to everything, even soup! Virtually no sour taste, and lacking in heat, so you only get the sweet. Thai food has to be a real balance of sweet, sour and hot. This food was definitely seriously unbalanced. To the extent that both my son and I could not finish our dishes, even though we were starving. I really don't get why other reviews say this place is authentic. Tasted nothing to me like the food I've ever eaten in Thailand. I cannot explain it as it's clearly run and operated by Thais. Perhaps we were just very unfortunate on the night. Food nul points. You may have guessed, we won't be going back in the future...

From the first bite to the last, an incredible taste experience. Sides (I had pak choi) are a little steep at roughly £5 each, especially if you are dining alone. But you get a lot (enough for two to share) and do I regret getting it? Definitely not.

This noodle bar is a real find. It's small and at times it does get busy but service is fast and the food is to die for. Been a regular for a couple of years now and it's definitely our family favourite for Thai food.

I have been there a couple of times already. The thai people who run the supermarket during the day also run food service only on Fridays and Saturdays at dinner time so you better get there early as the place isn't that big either. Food is awesome, fresh and portions are generous too and prices are just fair. Highly recommended.

Best authentic Thai food in Brighton and very good value for money. Highly recommend! Only downside is slightly weird opening times and you should be prepared to wait for a table at busy times.

This place is a hidden gem, if you don't know it's there you could easily just walk pass thinking its an oriental supermarket, but the eating area is towards the back of the shop. Yes you do have to wait as there are few tables and is very popular, but I always think that's a good sign. The food is all made fresh upon order, hence the small wait. But it is all worth it. By far the best Penang curry outside of Thailand!!! The shop is fascinating so plenty of things to keep you occupied whilst waiting for a table. There is a very relaxed vibe, not the sort of place to go for a formal meal, but it's a must visit!!!!

The food here was great (I would advise trying a few things, although it is very filling!).As mentioned in many other reviews, service is slow and you do have to wait a while for a table and the food - you have been warned!Regardless of this, it's an experience and if you have the time it's a nice little place to have some good food, similar to what you could find in Asia, in a very informal setting.

had to wait a very very long time to be seated, no problem this place is popular and staff let you know straight away, been here before food was good so decided to wait. (seems the take-away takes priority over sit down diners) Ordered stir fried Tofu in Thai Basil with a fried egg, always been good before but this time sadly not. Very dry hardly any sauce and virtually non-existent basil which is the core of the dish. Fried egg should be served runny, again let down as hard yolk....it is served on rice and needs the sauce, but as stated before hardly any. Not cheap for what I got, basically one dish for £8. Wouldn't have minded if it had been good, but no where near as good as before. Shame.

I always loved the food and it is one of my favourite restaurant. I am vegetarian and they do a lot of veggie dishes. But since management changed the customer service sucks. Last night we went to celebrate my birthday and we found a fly stuck inside the fried ice cream. They only deducted the service charge. That is not good enough.
