Kanok Thai in Brighton and Hove

I ordered a take away and must say it was absolutely delicious. Ordered a mixed started, red duck curry and a pad Thai with King Praws. All absolutely fantastic, I would highly recommend. D Drysdale

As a Thai Local myself. I must say the staff were very sweet, with a good selection of drinks - Cha Yen(ชาเย็น) and much more, from beer selections. The meal I had was the Tom Yum Gai as a starter, and to finish off, had a Pad Kra Pao Moo Saab (Chilli and Basil), and all I can share is that it tastes authentically similar to Thai restaurants back home. I will be coming here more often for the REAL authenticity. ขอบคุนนะครับ🙏🏽, love this place🫶🏼

Basic decor but the food was amazing freshly cooked and probably the best pad Thai I’ve had. The service was excellent not rushed but attentive. We will definitely be back

Stumbled across this genuine little Thai restaurant. Excellent service, food was fantastic. Best we have had across the south coast.

Went to this restaurant but it was a through disappointment. The service was very slow given that there was one waiter who seemed to be prioritising people that came in after us who were walk-ins rather than us who had pre booked our table. We waited an eternity only to order our drinks to be told 10 minutes later they did not have our wine so we ordered another. The waiter then went away and took someone else’s food order who had come in after us and we never got the wine as we made the decision that having been there for 30 minutes already without our food order having been taken, nor having received the wine that we would go somewhere else where they actually gave a damn about their customers and served promptly. Having had the opportunity to scan the menu for w0 minutes the menu didn’t have a lot of choice available and some of the dishes seemed very expensive for what they had in them. Needless to say, we won’t be returning. There are better Thai restaurants in Brighton such as Thai Pad Thai that have more choice, are less expensive and the service is prompt.

I definitively don’t understand the reviews in this country. Or people overrate everything, or here the restaurants are paying for them. In this case this restaurant was a total disappointment. Very expensive, very small rations, normal quality… I’m sorry, but paying 15£ for a pineapple fried rice chicken with the size of a hand it’s too much. Not to mention the other plates, average price 12£ and really small. And to finish, when we requested the bill, they have added 10% tip, which obviously we haven’t paid cause it doesn’t make sense when you are overpaying for something and the service was minimum. Imagine how were the rations that when we finished dinner there, we went to KFC to have dinner again… So we paid 2 times for dinner for feeling our stomachs well. Obviously we will not return

We visited the restaurant a couple days ago. The food was amazing. Lots of authentic Northern Thai dishes you can barely find in the UK. The staff members were so friendly and attentive! There's a lot of northern food. Very rare in England The taste is very delicious too. The staff members are all lovely. Very good service

Another lovely visit to Brighton and three more visits to the Kanok Thai restaurant on Preston Street. Each visit my friends and I tried different dishes and all were very tasty. Tom was very attentive and made sure we had everything we wanted, including some home made spicy chili oil condiment. Highly recommended ! I will definitely return to the Kanok when I am back in Brighton.

I'm so glad I discovered the Kanok Thai restaurant on a recent 4 day visit to Brighton. I ate there three nights. It would have been four, had the restaurant not been closed on Wednesday's. My friends and I tried many different dishes and all were very tasty. Tom was very attentive and made sure we had everything we wanted, including some home made spicy chili oil condiment. I will definitely return to the Kanok when I am back in Brighton

Visited Kanok Thai Restaurant in Brighton for lunch and found it to be very good value for money. The prawn toasts stood out as the best I've ever had. The tom kha soup was full of flavour. Both the pad thai and the Thai green curry were enjoyable as well. Overall, the meal left us satisfied and we would be happy to return.

Great value for money. You have a 2 course menu for lunch, same portions! Small restaurant so can easily no table available. Great service. Take away too. My favourite dish is the Green curry! If you are into spicy food try it! Otherwise, plenty of other options.

Came across this and we went in. Lovely food and service. Tempura prawn best I have ever had. Thai Shiraz was really good like a good Aussie Shiraz.

The food was great the staff are lovely and friendly, the wine is on the expensive side but the food isn't so that balances everything out. Willing to pay more when the food is excellent and authentic and not over priced.

Not too much open these days on this once great street but this Thai is open and has a reasonable lunch deal on. What got us in was the very vegan friendly wording on the menu and that extended to the Gentleman in charge today who was very helpful re vgn choices available. My spicy noodles were great, son loved his Pad Thai, wife's dish needed more sauce but still, happy to return

So tasty, and the service was lovely! Such a homely vibe, the beer and the Thai milk tea was great, and we loved all the dishes and being able to share them easily.

Went for lunch, booked a table the day before very easy. Great price had the lunch deal starter and main for 12 quid. Food was amazing, had the chilli and basil beef was delicious and the tom yom soup. And the thai milk tea was great. Staff were great and friendly 10/10

Food quality was excellent. Tried a Tung Yum soup with chicken, chilli and basil stirred beef with jasmine rice. They were not too spicy. Portion could be larger though.

A warm and inviting restaurant. This is not the place to go if you're seeking a posh atmosphere. But if you are searching for authentic Thai cuisine, you must visit this restaurant. The staff members were very pleasant, and the food was delicious. Unlike many restaurants in London those advertise a particular cuisine but serve something entirely different, this restaurant serves authentic Thai cuisine that is delicious.

Unassuming, cafe environment with amazing food and friendly service

Overall our experience dining at Kanok Thai was okay! The food was tasty, however, the restaurant is not child friendly. They do not have high chairs, the service staff would got us the bill without asking if we wanted deserts, when asked, they said the kitchen is closed. Seating was a bit congested.

As I am Thai, this restaurant cook Thai food so so so Thai. I've requested them to cook it spicier. Som Tum Pu Parah (ส้มตำปูปลาร้า) is super yum. I'm gonna cry because of this deliciousness. 😭😭😭

Disappointed. Chicken sateh, no way was it cooked from raw, hot on outside cold in middle, chewy, just poor. Pe neang beef curry, again just ok asked for spicy, got a bowl of chillies which again made me question freshness of dishes..reheat? Sorry, not again

Went on Fathers’ Day and were glad we had booked. The food was stunning - the Thai fish cakes were the best we’d eaten, while the Thai sausage (ordered out of curiosity) was fabulous - coarse and spicy. All of our mains were delicious and generously sized (although we did have to nudge for all of our rice). Will totally make a return visit. Added bonus - large bottles of Signha available!

Small premises , basic decor! Nice welcome, service good, FOOD very good, Looks like its a family run business which they all do there part very well. Would recommend this restaurant for its very good food and the value for money. well done.

Great food, great price - what's not to like?

In Preston Street, there is a Thai restaurant called "Kanok Thai". Once we entered, we noticed a nauseating smell. A mix of foot stinks and humidity...but that wasn't a problem. We asked the waitress for advice on some clarifications on the menu. She was flawless on the information given. Some were followed, others totally ignored. We ordered: 'Crispy noodle' and 'Mushroom Sateh' as starters, 'grill chicken' and 'grill prawn' as main course. The starters were good, but the main dish was so-so. A special mention for Anna who was very kind. Average food...unfortunately you can't have everything in life Eh eh eh.

Authentic Thai restaurant very amazing food and excellent service

We collected three dishes from here last night. The pad Thai and papaya salad were both nice. However,the pad spicy duck was awful! It was rendered inedible by far too much salt. It burned my mouth. We tried to call the restaurant and got the answerphone. We left our contact number but there was no callback! By the way, it took me about 50mins waiting for the food!

We visited for a family members birthday with a group of around two. There were only two people serving so that made being seen too really slow! There were a fair few items on the menu they didn’t have so a lot of order changing had to happen. When some meals arrived they weren’t as ordered however we daren’t ask to get these changed as we had already waited a very long time! The food was lovely though.

The Earth and Stars used to be one of our favourite destinations for a superb Sunday roast. The standard and quality of the food was spectacular (and, indeed, award winning). Having eaten here a few times during the week since it's change of management a couple of years ago I felt confident I would not be disappointed. Unfortunately, I'm afraid I was. We decided to eat here on Sunday with out of town friends. The general ambience and service were wonderful, what great staff! Efficient, friendly and very welcoming. I could not fault them. The menu looked very promising, although there were only 3 choices of meat for roasts, with the rather surprising absence of lamb, considering the time of year. There were, however a number of other options including vegan, vegetarian and gluten free choices. All members of our party opted for beef and pork between us, which arrived very quickly with a good selection of vegetables. First impressions were that the portions were a good size, but not huge, with a large part of the plate taken up by a big Yorkshire pudding and swimming in gravy. The beef was ok, but disappointing, not great, slightly overcooked. The pork was, however, delicious, with an impressive piece of crispy crackling. The vegetables were all nice, with the exception of the roast potatoes, which wouldn't win any prizes I'm afraid. They had that heated up from cold taste and feel about them, as did the Yorkshire pudding. Then we come to the gravy......there was certainly plenty of it, but sadly that's the only positive point. It looked thin and it tasted thin. There was very little depth or quality of flavour to it at all. The stars of the show on any roast dinner are the meat, the roast potatoes and the gravy.......unfortunately in this particular case they were all decidedly lack-lustre. It felt like their cooking needed a bit more love and care. This meal was perfectly edible and had some very good points, but was sadly generally rather uninspiring. We didn't want desserts, but had we decided to would have been rather disappointed as there was only one choice left on the menu, which, considering we were there relatively early in the day felt like bad planning. All in all a very average meal, made up for to an extent by the lovely service. I will no doubt eat here again during the week, but don't feel inspired to bother with the roast again. What a shame.

Strange little place. Looks like a living room, with tables and chairs in it. The food is lovely though, but I would probably not recommend arriving just as they open. Looks well used by Thai people, which is always a good thing to see

My favourite Thai restaurant. The food here is very delicious and very reasonable priced. The service is fast and friendly and portions are good too. The pineapple rice is highly recommend as well as the sirloin steak with that amazing sauce. They also do a lunch deal until 3pm

We had a takeaway from here at the beginning of the week loved it so much decided to eat in on our last night in Brighton & we were not disappointed can highly recommend Thai green Chicken Curry the Yellow Curry & Stir fry pork a very small restaurant which is quite intimate will return on next visit to Brighton a big thumbs up for this restaurant

I highly recommend this restaurant if ever you want to eat Thai food in Brighton. It was excellent and it's very inexpensive for the quality they serve. The Thai iced tea was very good. They have a menu for less than 10 pounds for lunch which is great! The servers are extremely nice and attentive. It's also a great place if you have allergies as they'll make sure that none of the food you are allergic to is in your dish.

One of the best Thai meals we have had in years! We live in london so we are usually spoiled for choice. The food here was incredibly fragrant and well presented. They also catered very well for our allergies. I would highly reccomend it.

Had a lovely meal at this intimate and small restaurant situated on Preston Street. The restaurant holds approx 20 diners when full which is fine to be honest as you get the personal attentive and friendly service you expect when visiting restaurants. The food served here was freshly cooked, made with fresh ingredients oozing and infused with Thai flavours, our meals were absolutely delicious. This establishment is really clean, fresh and airy inside. The prices here are extremely reasonable compared to other Thai restaurants in the vicinity, it's highly rated and highly recommended. Commendations to the owner, the staff and the chef. Will be visiting again when next in the area.

Really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere in this gorgeous unassuming restaurant. The satay chicken and wonton starters were superb. The mains of ginger and chilli chicken was also tasty. Staff lovely. Would highly recommend.

Went for one of their two course lunch set menus for £9, what’s not to like? It seemed all the things that involved a sauce or stock were utterly delightful and anything fried was decidedly disappointing. So stick to the soups and wet curries and you will be pleasantly surprised. Good depth, plenty of Thai punch with complex flavours for this category. The fried dishes were dreadful. Greasy, bland, overcooked or just plain weird. Best advice is to swerve the fried dishes. One of our party ordered a Creamy Thai Tea thing, that he thoroughly enjoyed but freaked the rest of the table out. The jasmine tea was decent.

This is a great small no frills restaurant but with good service and lovely food. Not overpriced and a decent choice.

This small restaurant was really busy on Sunday night when I visited. They squeezed me in on the last available table. Staff were welcoming and friendly, service was pretty rapid and the food was delicious! Prawn spring rolls to start we’re tasty and my chicken main with rice was spicy and tasted authentic. Portions aren’t huge, but big enough and there’s plenty here to share if your with friends.

We stumbled on this restaurant because the one we first went to was closed on Sundays. Talk about a stroke of luck. We ordered the mixed starter, which was superb. I had the Pad Duck stir fry, with egg rice. It was quite spicy, but the mixture of flavors was divine. We also had a bottle of the Monsoon Chardonnay, a Thai wine, which was a delicious accompaniment to the meal. One mixed starter, 4 main meals, 2 large Chang beers and a bottle of wine, all for about 65 GBP. Great value. It will be my first dinner stop on my next visit to Brighton

Very small but lovely Thai restaurant on Preston street in the center of town. Tempura prawns and Red chicken Curry were almost perfect. Prices are very reasonable too. The only bad thing is restaurant is so small, that it is almost impossible to find tabble on a Friday or Saturday evening. But really worth to try search for it.

This was my second visit to Kanok Thai restaurant. I'm from out of town and when I was planning a recent visit to Brighton, I had to come back to this place to see if it was as good as the last time I ate here, two years ago. I was not disappointed. The lunchtime specials is excellent (two courses for £7.50), service is speedy, and most of all, food is absolutely delicious. We loved the coconut soup!

A lovely little cafe style restaurant in a busy street full of restaurants of all nationalities. The food is genuine Thai cooking and very reasonable priced, and the staff, all Thai, are friendly, courteous and efficient. The menu only shows Thai beers, but they also have Tiger if you ask for it.

Love this place! This place is always a favourite... if I am ever hungry and in the area, I always see if there is space. Staff are super friendly & helpful. I am vegan and they are wonderful at helping find options.

Me and a friend (Thai and Japanese) went to Kanok Thai as a recommendation by friends at our college. Apparently that night, they were also hosting a large group from an english language school. This group was very noisy. I took a look at the menu, and prices were on the lower-mid end, so I did not expect a lot. Obviously I did expect that the food should be authentic. I had a Panaeng curry with beef and my friend had a green curry with chicken. What troubles me was that the rice that came with it wasn't cooked properly. The curries were too runny, and the spice level was sub-par, but not the worst I've had. I think it was just a bad night for the chef, and the manager apologised later in the night. Overall, for our drinks, curry, rice and a shared appetiser, the total came to £24. Not bad, but still not the best. Would probably give the restaurant one more chance since I probably had a bad night. Although I would much rather recommend Sabai on North Street.

La comida tailandesa de Tailandia tiende a ser muy dulce, pero los platos no eran demasiado dulces en Kanok. También pedimos tener un curry muy picante y lo hicieron muy picante! El personal era muy amable y servicial, especialmente con las alergias de mis hijos. Mi mejor Thai hasta ahora en Brighton y Hove y probé la mayoría de ellos! Volveré la próxima semana y lo recomendaré a cualquiera que ame la verdadera comida tailandesa. ¡No es la comida típica tailandesa servida a los turistas!
