If you're looking for excellent seafood by the beach, this is the place. Generous portions, friendly staff, excellent food and not overpriced, this place was a dream!! Cannot recommend enough! The chips were perfect 👌
Excellent lunch at Moshimo's today. Everything was delicious and the person who looked after us was very helpful and knowledgeable about our specific dietary requirements, he double checked with the chef who was able to tweak the menu to fit with our needs. Great atmosphere too. Well done to all the team.
Bestest burgers going. Affordable for the area, with single burgers starting at £6 and meal deals for £9:50 with a pint and chips if you like. Lots of tasty options and every single one tastes delicious, with good vegan and vegetarian options too. I hype them up because they're amazing. Open until 2am on Fridays and Saturdays too!! Thank you Martin x
Unfortunately, our experience staying in the short-let Airbnb apartment above the Regency Tavern in 2021 was extremely poor.
While technically claimed to be separate businesses, the crossover is hard to ignore; staff from the pub entered the flats (without masks during the then-COVID-19 pandemic), and we were asked to settle a payment using the pub’s payment terminal.
Any issues about the Airbnb were reported to Lee Thomas Cockshott, who operates both the accommodation and the pub (the latter alongside his partner, Simon Mark Peter Ebers).
The building itself was in a dreadful state of repair – rotting doors, exposed live wiring, and a general lack of hygiene throughout.
The accommodation did not match the advertised amenities, such as the lack of hand soap in one apartment, which Cockshott blamed on COVID-related restrictions despite hand soap being present in the other apartment. The apartments were clearly not supplied nor cleaned to any reasonable standard.
We initially agreed in principle to an offline contract to move to the apartment directly next to the one we originally booked. But that agreement was effectively breached by the failure to provide safe, functioning facilities and even a basic standard of customer service. The second apartment smelled strongly of damp, had poor window seals, and Cockshott continued to behave in a needlessly hostile and sarcastic manner.
We left after one night, cutting our stay short because we no longer felt safe or comfortable – not just due to the poor condition of the flats, but also because of how we were treated by Cockshott.
Following our early checkout, the majority of the text messages I received from Cockshott were aggressive, evasive, or threatening. These included threats of police reports, legal action, and personal attacks, simply because we insisted on paying for the one night we stayed in the adjacent apartment.
While this review is primarily about the accommodation, it is impossible to separate the two when the Regency Tavern is used to manage, access, and process payments for the flats and said pub's staff not only tended to the apartment, but could also be heard advising Cockshott during one or more of his phone calls with us.
In my opinion, because of the dangerous condition of the premises, the intimidation we experienced, and previous dishonesty about the connection between the pub and the Airbnb, Cockshott should not be allowed to continue operating tourist accommodations. It's just as well that Cockshott and Ebers' other business, Le Village, shut down in 2023 after council action.
I strongly advise against staying here or doing business with Lee Cockshott or Simon Ebers in any capacity.
Exciting and casual
Murmur is the sister of 64 degrees and it shows
It’s quite an affordable option with an incomparable view of the sea
If you are on a budget go for the lunch menu so you get an idea of what the food is like
Service is great
Worst taste waste of money the name of piri piri taste is pepper powder in sauce and chilli flakes and water that’s it service don’t expect from them thank
I had given an honest review on Google about my experience at this restaurant — but shockingly, this is the kind of reply I received in return. (Screenshot attached — have a look.)
Telling a customer to ‘stick to curry’ is not only unprofessional — it’s blatantly racist and reflects a disturbing lack of respect for anyone who doesn’t blindly praise your food. Instead of accepting responsibility for poor taste and terrible service, you chose to insult a paying customer.
Let me make one thing clear — we didn’t eat for free. We paid money, and in return we expected decent food and customer service, especially in a tourist area. Your behavior is not just a bad response — it’s a disgrace to the hospitality industry.
If you want to grow in food or any business, the bare minimum is common sense: respect your customers, take feedback seriously, and learn to improve. But when you choose to respond to criticism with racism and arrogance, you’re digging your own grave. Businesses like yours don’t lose customers — they earn their own downfall. Keep going like this, and failure isn’t a risk — it’s a guarantee.”*
One server for whole restaurant meant there was long gaps between service (early evening on a Sunday and not overly busy). Pollo Milanese was overcooked, crispy and lacking sauce. Kitchen should not have served this as it was if they had high standards. Antipasta dishes were fine. Roast pork for other family members was much better. An extra roast potato (only two given) would have been ideal.
No checking for allergies. Didn't stay for deserts due to slow service restricting our available time.
Wonderful experience in the restaurant today. The girl in the shop, Reyann, was very helpful and acknowledged that I didn't want to be rushed and took her time in serving me.
Very lovely atmosphere and food was delicious 😋

April 2024 Update: Sadly it seems Ho Chaik has closed down :( Not sure why - place seems intact. They even updated their menu not too long ago! But all of a sudden, lights off and a notice on the door.
Not sure if the owner will see this, but thank you for all the great service, food, great value dishes and family feel! You will be missed! Hope Ho Chaik can come back some day.
Good luck with whatever the future holds!

Original Review 2023:
5 stars all round! We recently moved to Brighton and Ho Chiak is definitely one of the best Brighton Asian food restaurants in the area. Taste, portion sizes, value and service - perfect!
Was looking for a place to dine with family and stumbled on the restaurant - a selection of great Asian dishes, traditional, more rarer items and dim sum. Super fresh! The best part is that the mains come with rice included; a rarity in any restaurant
We've dined in about 4/5 times now, and had a few takeaways. Both have been excellent - really friendly, polite and chatty staff. The owner is really hospitable and welcoming; it's got a warm, family feel! Honesly don't understand these reviews
Recommend: The curry. So good! The porridge (congee) is great too; massive portions and great for the colder weather. Top up your meal with steamed egg buns. HEAVENLY.
I don't think they're on Ubereats/Deliveroo etc - so it's one you'd need to pop by for; but well worth it!
Location wise - a great spot! Near the seafront and also the main shopping hub of Western road; plus close to bars/desert places too.
Totally recommended, easy 5/5 stars and will be back for more!
