Murmur Restaurant in Brighton and Hove

We had a lovely evening. Despite the restaurant being exceptionally busy during the day and some courses not being available we were not disappointed with the food which was cooked to perfection. Excellent service and great ambience too! Will be back soon.

Popped in without a reservation, and was very pleasantly surprised with the menu and service. A hidden gem because it’s down on the waterfront and you don’t know it’s there unless you go down to beach level (maybe some signposting above would be good?). Had curried octopus which was fabulous, and my 2 colleagues were both also brimming with positivity about their meals. The only surprise was that we were the only people enjoying the great food on offer.

We arrived with out a reservation at 1 when the restaurant was quiet. They seated us, served us water but i had to ask for chairs twice. In that time another group arrived also without reservation. We were then told, they only had 1 chair and 1 of our party would have to stand. Not sure why they sat me down without enough seats for our entire party or served us water / gave us menu.

The location is great and the food is greater! We were there on a warm evening and sat outside and watched the world go by on the paved area at the top of the beach. We had a great evening.

6 of us traveled for the day to Brighton. Phoned restaurant way ahead and they took the booking. On way received a text confirming the reservation! Got to the restaurant to find it closed. Monday 4th to be exact.

What a glorious restaurant, sat looking over the sea, lovely relaxed atmosphere. The staff are very welcoming and helpful. The food is delicious, freshly cooked and very tasty. We will certainly be back, such fresh tasting fish cookery. Superb.

Unfortunately the service here just doesn’t match the food quality. Food was really good but no proper welcome from staff with ‘random’ service. Specifically asked twice that our oysters came before the rest of the meal as a starter. Didn’t happen so sent the rest of the food away and they had to redo, after asking and then reconfirming it was a silly mistake. No lovely welcome on arrival. Why not ask or train your staff to do that part. So easy to fix! Wine was brought but plonked on the table and not poured ? Dirty plates were left with us even when staff bought the next course? At £130 for two of us and a toddler the service just wasn’t up to it. Staff need specific training on how to look after people, This should have been be an excellent experience. Shame.

Murmur is one of my favourite restaurants in Brighton so booked a friday night out with a friend. However we did not have the Murmur experience. The first 2 wines we ordered were not available and the food was dreadful. The produce was great but the chef/whoever was "cooking" in the kitchen could not cook. Under done asparagus, raw egg, lumpy bland carrots, tiny winy bit of fish whilst raw fish for my friend. The photos speak for themselves. Please Michael sort it out. Really nice experience today at this lovely little find. The menu today was very fish heavy and I ordered the only non-fish meal and it was absolutely lovely! I think the menu changes often so it’s not always about fish. Would recommend and would visit again :)

This was our first time at Murmur, and whilst I liked it, I didn’t like it enough to go back. The setting is lovely and I like the decor. We had gone on the Octoberbest offer, advertised as 2 course for £25. There was no amuse bouche, and even the bread was charged at another £5. Nice bread though, I’ll give them that. We added some oysters, which were pleasant enough. The starter was a fish taco, which was okay. Everything just felt a bland, as though it was missing a big jolt of flavour. The main was a herb-stuffed cod loin, spring greens, shellfish sauce & fisherman’s pie. The dish came out luke warm, probably because the plate hadn’t been warmed properly, as that was stone cold. Again, it just lacked flavour. It wasn’t stuffed at all, but simply wrapped in greens and (I assume) water bathed, given the bland flavour and texture. The nicest part of the entire meal was the little fish pie on the side, which I would happily have eaten as a full meal. Just yummy. Dessert was a chocolate fondant or biscoff cheesecake - pleasant enough. The staff were very pleasant, although we had to top up our own wine, clearly something they don’t do. The idea of Octoberbest offer is for local restaurants to showcase and draw in new locals with an amazing deal. We have been to many over the years that have completely wowed us, and therefore have gone back time and time again, happily paying full price. This sadly will not be one of those restaurants. Despite being on the Octoberbest offer, the bill was nearly two hundred pounds for two people, and whilst I left feeling satisfied, it was all somewhat underwhelming.

One of my favourite restaurants in Brighton. Right at the seafront, excellent food and service. This time our visit was somewhat spoiled as another guest was smoking barely outside and with the doors all open it was almost like a boozer in the 70’s. It’s not happened before so I hope it’s a one off

Delightful celebratory lunch spent in a sunny patio by the sea.A small menu consisting of mainly fish and seafood but all cooked well with high quality ingredients and were enjoyed by the whole party.Unfortunately a few of the basics were not available such as sparkling water and only one choice of side vegetable on the menu.Luckily on asking they were able to offer another one. The service is relaxed and friendly but also efficient. It is a restaurant that is high priced but personally I feel that it is worth it for not only the good food,the lovely attitude of the employees but also the location.

I had lunch at Murmur with a couple of friends this weekend and had begun to worry a bit having read a couple of very poor reviews here after we had booked. I now wonder is those reviewers were confused about where they ate, as we didn't think it was overpriced, did not find the portions tiny, and were very happy with the service. And we eat out a lot, in some very good restaurants. We all chose different things; the mussels, bonito and lobster croquette starters, and then sand sole, plaice and stone bass for our mains. Plus hand cut chips and broccoli. All were excellent and the portions were perfectly normal. We didn't finish all the fries and none of us had room for dessert. Service was great - relaxed and friendly but very professional, and we were delighted to find reasonably priced wine - the vinho verde went brilliantly with the fish. We sat outside, but inside looks much better than it does in the pics on the website, which make it look very casual and cafe-style. It's actually much better than that. £65 each for two courses of excellent seafood and two bottles of wine between the three of us, and service. We had a great lunch and will be back.

Veryyyy expensive, Aperol taste like water and the portions are suuuper small, 16£ for a tiny peace of cabbage? Vegetable Salada was literally 3 bites. And we all left super hungry. Problem is not the price but whyyyy such small portions? Felt like a fool. The cost they have for the veggie prices are almost nothing to serve 3 bites of food per dish.

We had a late lunch on Sunday and it was fabulous. The two roasts which were specials were fabulous and the halibut was out of this world. A fantastic setting overlooking the sun shining low over a very rough sea. Very special.

We ate here a few weeks ago and we were so disappointed that no Oysters were available and that several of the specials had been sold by 8pm. Tuna starter completely overpowered by passion fruit puree. Cod extremely underwhelming. Shame.

Great service but dishes lacked punch. Pappardelle dish was tasteless - and seemed to have tinned tomatoes. Starters somewhat small and nothing to write home about. Toilets were filthy - no hand towels.

Esta fue nuestra primera visita a Murmur. Qué pequeño restaurante fabuloso. Los camareros y camareras fueron muy acogedores y extremadamente atentos desde el momento en que llegamos. El menú tenía el tamaño adecuado con un buen número de opciones. Mi esposo pidió besugo de una tabla de ofertas especiales y debió haber mencionado la "salsa excepcional de pimiento morrón" unas 6 veces durante la noche. Mis mejillones atrapados con cuerda estaban deliciosos. En general, fue una noche perfecta (incluso con las restricciones de las 10 pm). ¡Lo recomiendo mucho!

Apareció para el almuerzo, una encantadora bienvenida al lugar y se ofreció en interiores o exteriores, lo cual fue genial.Hemos visitado varias veces antes del Covid y, a pesar de las obvias precauciones adicionales, la comida era excelente y deliciosa en todos los aspectos.Ostras frescas para comenzar, seguidas de platos principales de Moules y risotto de mariscos. Ambos eran generosos y perfectamente cocinados.El personal del frente de la casa es atento pero no exagerado, definitivamente recomendaría el restaurante si desea una excelente experiencia de mariscos y pescados.

Este lugar simplemente sirve excelencia sin pretensiones. Hay un menú bastante pequeño con una buena variedad de platos que cambia según la temporada. Las croquetas de langosta y el rissoto de mariscos dan en el clavo. Servir vino local también es un toque encantador. El personal es atento y amable sin exagerar. Es un lugar favorito para mi esposo y para mí: ubicado justo enfrente del muelle oeste, hermosa vista y un lugar perfecto para ver pasar el mundo. En estos tiempos extraños, tienen un buen equilibrio al seguir las pautas de seguridad mientras mantienen su experiencia relajada y cómoda. ¡No puedo esperar a volver!

Cálida bienvenida a la llegada del Maitre D, mesa a la sombra pero con vistas abiertas al paseo inferior y al sol reflejándose en el mar. Tenía el especial de ostras con el vinagre / chalota como entrante, se deslizó maravillosamente con una copa de vino espumoso Ridgeview. Los platos principales eran mejillones y filete de besugo, solo un mejillón no se había abierto lo suficiente y el besugo estaba maravillosamente húmedo. Probé el vino Smederevka con el besugo, una primera vez para mí, ligeramente encina, pero no está mal en 5. 50 por un vaso de 175 ml. El servicio es muy bueno, no demasiado intrusivo, nuestra camarera Lliy (siempre sonriente y eficiente) nos enorgulleció con un postre de chocolate gratuito. Por el momento no aceptan reservas, así que si quieres un buen asiento al aire libre en un día agradable, ponte cómodo antes de las 12. 30, obviamente es popular incluso los lunes. El cargo por servicio es de 12. 5%.

Visité un sábado a la hora del almuerzo, llegué a las 12:30 y entró directamente. . asignó una mesa soleada afuera que era perfecta.Todo el personal de espera es muy encantador y el entrante y el plato principal absolutamente delicioso junto con una hermosa botella de vino de la lista de vinos a buen precio.Luego pedimos nuestros budines. Es nuestra primera comida con el bebé y la primera desde COVID - 19. Actualmente no aceptan reservas, por lo que solo se aceptan visitas sin cita previa. Tienen algunos asientos dentro, pero queríamos sentarnos afuera, así que llegamos para 12 cuando abrieron. Tuvimos suerte y conseguimos una gran mesa bajo una sombrilla sin tener que esperar. Todos los camareros usan máscaras y los menús estaban en cosas que se podían limpiar, así que sabíamos que estaban frescos. Hicieron todo lo posible para hacernos sentir cómodos, estábamos muy nerviosos pero pronto nos acomodamos y se sintió notablemente normal.Nuestro camarero estaba haciendo su primer turno y estaba un poco nervioso, pero hizo un trabajo excelente. La vista del muelle, el 360 y simplemente ver pasar a la gente fue encantadora.Los entrantes eran croquetas de langosta para mi pareja y yo tenía langostinos y tostadas al estilo español absolutamente deliciosos. Tuve el risotto de mariscos que era increíble y muy sabroso. Tenía un trozo de langosta muy dulce en la parte superior y unas hermosas algas. Mi único problema era que era bastante grande, así que no tenía espacio para el postre. En serio, podría haber sido entre 1/4 y 1/3 más pequeño y hubiera sido correcto (¡y eso proviene de una mujer que actualmente está amamantando y comiendo como un cerdo en este momento!). Sin embargo, estaba feliz con un descafeinado blanco mate para terminar.Mi compañero tenía el sencillo pescado especial que estaba muy bien preparado pero tenía mucho espacio para brownie con salsa de maní.Hermoso regalo junto al mar. Gran ambiente, hermosas vistas y comida impresionante. Vuelve ahí fuera.

Definitivamente vale la pena ir a Murmur si lo que buscas es una excelente comida. Situado frente al mar, tranquilo e íntimo con un menú de comida y bebida bien pensado, es fantástico.Teníamos croquetas de langosta y langostinos tigre al estilo español para compartir, no cambiaría esas opciones. Mi compañero luego comió el risotto y yo el chuletón, tampoco podía fallar. Los camareros que nos atendieron fueron realmente animados y atentos durante toda la noche.Originalmente no planeamos comer postre, lo hicimos y el brownie de plátano y chocolate coronó nuestra noche. ¡Esperamos con ansias el próximo regreso!

Fabulous fish restaurant on the beach. The lobster croquettes were delicious and the sea bream off the specials menu was cooked to perfection. The service was fantastic, so friendly and helpful. Will definitely visit again next time I’m in Brighton.

Nuestra tradición cuando estamos en Brighton es ir a murmurar, sentarse afuera, haga el tiempo que haga, y tomar un poco de vino blanco y ostras. Así que esta semana, en un día muy húmedo y ventoso pero caluroso, lo hicimos. Todo el personal se rió de nosotros sentados bajo la lluvia torrencial pero nos acomodó. Buenas ostras buen vino la gente agradable recomendaría.

El personal de Murmur no podría haberme hecho sentir más cómoda de que lo que iba a comer fuera "seguro" para los alérgenos múltiples que debo evitar actualmente para continuar amamantando a mi bebé multialergico. Visitamos en familia en uno de los días más calurosos y estaba muy ocupado, pero se tomaron el tiempo para asegurarse, verificar y volver a verificar lo que podía y no podía tener. Designar a un chef y su puesto para preparar y cocinar nuestra comida. ¡La ventaja adicional es que la comida era excelente!

I visited Mummer for a dinner with friends last night what a fabulous evening. The food was delicious Seafood Rissotto and Rib eye steak were excellent, the staff charming would definitely recommend can't wait to return.

¡Nos encantó en Murmur! Vivimos en la zona y tuvimos una experiencia extremadamente mala en The Regency, el restaurante justo encima de Murmur, la noche anterior y estaba buscando algunos mejillones, ya que a mi hijo le encanta Moules Mariniere. Buscamos en Google y vimos que Murmur lo hacía y lo llevamos a almorzar al día siguiente. Tanto la comida como el servicio fueron excelentes. Mi jefe me lo recomendó hace mucho tiempo. . . ¡Ojalá viniera antes! Definitivamente estaremos visitando nuevamente.

El menú es fantástico, la comida es como una estrella Michelin, realmente es increíble, el servicio es de primera clase, los camareros son tan conocedores y atentos, no podría haber elegido un lugar mejor para comer esta noche, me siento muy afortunado de haberlo encontrado. Arrived for dinner at 5.45pm and were offered a choice of outside tables. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The roast cod was amazing. A lovely seafront restaurant- feels like your on holiday!

Mi esposo y yo cenamos en Murmur anoche y fue absolutamente divino. El ambiente es encantador y los dos empleados de la recepción fueron excelentes, informados y sus recomendaciones fueron acertadas. Teníamos el croquet de langosta y el taco de pescado para empezar. Seguí con el risotto de mariscos, mi esposo no podía decidir qué plato principal de mejillones, por lo que, por recomendación de la excelente camarera, tenía el tamaño de entrada y eran increíbles. El vino era delicioso y compartimos un postre. Si estás en Brighton es una visita obligada

Había estado esperando mi primera comida en un restaurante desde que se redujo el cierre y Murmur no me decepcionó en mi cumpleaños. Aunque ocupado un lunes por la noche, esto no nos importó en absoluto; más bien lo consideramos una señal realmente alentadora para el sector de la hospitalidad y nos dio la oportunidad de pasar por la carretera para tomar una copa al sol antes de que nos llamaran la mesa estaba lista. No sé qué le pusieron al pan que venía con los adorables langostinos al estilo español, pero en serio, estaba más que delicioso. Mi risotto de mariscos para el plato principal era aterciopelado y hermoso, pero en realidad estaba celoso del espectacular y perfectamente cocinado lenguado de Dover de mi pareja. Me dieron un pequeño brownie de cumpleaños a pesar de no pedir postres porque estábamos bastante llenos. Excelente servicio por parte del personal atento y servicial, y acordamos una muy buena relación calidad-precio considerando la ubicación y el buen tamaño de las porciones para un restaurante elegante como este. ¡Gracias y volveremos!

nuestra primera vez comiendo aquí y muy agradable también. Como mucha gente, dudamos un poco sobre volver a comer fuera, pero la atención al detalle al limpiar las mesas entre los invitados junto con la distancia entre las mesas es lo mejor que he visto desde el cierre. con un clima nocturno perfecto, excelentes vistas y estar lo suficientemente lejos del ajetreo y el bullicio del resto del frente al mar, eso combinado con una comida sencilla bien hecha hizo que fuera una gran velada

Ha pasado un tiempo desde nuestra última visita a Murmur debido al cierre, así que estuvimos encantados de volver a uno de nuestros restaurantes favoritos. El restaurante ha tomado todas las medidas necesarias para garantizar que los clientes y el personal estén lo más seguros posible, pero el ambiente es el mismo que antes. La comida, el servicio y el ambiente eran muy altos en los que nos han usado y el nuevo personal también era encantador. ¡Esperamos volver a sintonizar muy pronto!

We went here with friends and have to say we absolutely loved it! Great selection of fish dishes and a steak on the specials - staff were super accommodating when we ask to change some things. Cocktails were nice to! Will defo go back

You 100% need to go visit this amazing establishment. The location on Brighton seafront is stunning, such lovely views of the West Pier and Brighton beach.The service is always top class, the team are friendly but not over imposing. The food is also incredible, there’s something to suit everyone on the menu.Cannot wait for our next visit! Thank you team Murmur!

Went for a set Lunch during the week. Really enjoyed the taste of the food but the portion sizes were microscopic! Shame really as I liked the view, service and taste of food but if you leave still feeling hungry you leave feeling a bit disappointed.

Wow wow wow. The interior does not reflect what you can expect in terms of food. I would give this 6 stars if I could. Looking into the restaurant I initially was concerned it was more cafe than restaurant but the evening was amazing and when the other tables started to fill the atmosphere was good. The kitchen is an open one which is a good sign. We both had 3 courses. My husband had pork cheek followed by the cod. He spoke about the cod whilst eating ; during dessert; in the taxi home and the next morning. I had the parsnip soup which was a special and potato gnocchi. Both delicious. We both had baked chocolate cheesecake for dessert - heaven on a plate. With a bottle of house wine expect to pay £50 per head without coffees but with service. Couldn’t fault the good or service

A hidden gem which gives you Brighton's best! We couldn't have asked for better food or service I would recommend this to anyone who fancies a meal out. Thanks for a perfect night catching up with old friends!

We love this restaurant on the seafront in Brighton. Always a lot of laughs. Delicious, fresh food. Amazing service & atmosphere. Plus they’re dog friendly, too!! This time we went for a tasting menu. So amazing. I’m looking forward to the next event when we get to pair up wines with exquisite food. Definitely one of our go to places.

Murmur has long been a favourite place to eat. What a stunning location even in the middle of a storm. The food is always excellent, creative and very fresh. Brilliant wines and wonderful service. Next time I need to escape the weather (hot or cold) I know where I will be heading

Having been to 64 Degrees and loved it, we booked Murmur and had high expectations. The service was good, the location is great but sadly the food was very underwhelming. The oysters had lots of grit in them which they shouldn’t have. The cod was lovely but the plaice was overcooked. The potatoes were undercooked and just not much effort in terms of presentation for that dish. There was just no wow factor to any of it. They didn’t charge us for the plaice and the waitress was very polite and apologetic so I can’t fault them in terms of service. Perhaps the chef just had an off night. It’s difficult to say but it just felt very disappointing compared to their sister restaurant which is great. I don’t think we would go back to be honest.

Lunch a la carte and set menu, offered. Had a combo of both withiut any fuss. Mussels were sublime.. Best ever! The dessert of creme brulee with bramley apple and burnt cinnamon is a NOT to be missed dish...on another level. With a main course too and a couple of glasses of excellent wine from the interesting wine list (Macedonia, Turkey included) and an excellent cappuccino and a warmed cognac, it was a perfect long lunch in a gorgeous beachfront spot in Brighton. Easy, knowledgeable service. Felt right at home. Michael was in the kitchen which added to our smiles. All under £100 including service charge.Excellent value. Excellent cooking. Perfect location and great service. What more could you want?

Visitamos un sábado soleado para el almuerzo. El restaurante se obtuvo de la Guía de buena comida. Nos sentamos adentro, que era sorprendentemente pequeño. En la reflexión deberíamos habernos sentado afuera para tener una mejor vista. Sin embargo, el servicio fue bueno, amable y eficiente.Comenzamos con pan casero, que era tan bueno que preguntamos si podíamos comprar algo para llevar a casa. Tuve un crujiente taco de pollo, que en realidad era un entrante. Estaba muy sabroso pero el pollo estaba un poco cocido y un poco seco. Mi marido tenía una solla entera que estaba deliciosa.Fue agradable ver al dueño Michael Bremner almorzar allí.Recomendaríamos este restaurante a cualquiera que visite Brighton, y volveremos a visitarlo si estamos en la zona.

Third visit this year and it’s always amazing . Great flavours , great atmosphere and friendly welcoming staff . 100% recommend.

Lovely food & prices are good. I had the fishcake to start which was lovely and had the best tartare sauce I've ever had! I had venison as my main which was also great. The Wine list was good & tasty desserts.

Had the most amazing meal celebrating my anniversary with my husband. The staff were so friendly & attentive and the food was superb. I had the confit beetroot with goats cheese followed by the hake which was in the lightest broth with fennel & orange. Can't wait to go back - highly recommend

Three of us visiting Brighton went for dinner. Everything was delightful. The service, the food, the wine list and the atmosphere. One of the best restaurant meals I have had for a long time. Can't wait to come back. Thank you.

Excellent meal for largish (12) group last night. Food, wine and service all first class. Probably my favourite restaurant in Brighton & Hove. Highly recommended.

Having read some of the poor reviews we still decided to give the place a go and we were not disappointed. The service was superb (Victoria) and we were attended too very quickly as it was pretty busy. We had the loverly new pots, seasonal greens and fish cakes. It was just really tasty and the right amount for lunch. Thanks guys and will be back from Andy n Joanie

I have never been to this restaurant, after searching google I was excited about trying it, I asked if it were possible to have mashed or creamed potatoes added to my order (this was not on the menu) , I watched as the chefs received the news and as there is an open kitchen I saw a disgusted expression and shaking heads, yet somehow the answer was yes, then I saw them laughing as one chef visibly picked his nose before cutting some food. Word of advise, do not have an open kitchen if you are going to show obvious disdain to your customers when your restaurant is empty.. utterly disgusted. Also the olives were terribly salty and were inedible

We went to Murmur for lunch in early September on a beautiful day. The front of house staff were very friendly and we had a lovely table right next to the open patio doors. The best of both worlds, outside yet in. We decided on the 2 course lunch and had a choice of starters and mains. When they arrived the mussels were delicious and the summer veg bruschetta was perfect for a summer's day. We all had sea bream which was cooked to perfection. When in the area we would definitely visit again. Perfect.

I went with a friend to murmur hoping to have a lovely meal. We had Sardines and a main course of lamb. That night we were both unwell with acute diarrhoea.

Tried another restaurant that was full and they recommended we try MurMur on the front. Good recommendation. Had 2 nice Asian Salads and a few drinks before we made our way to see Elton John at the Cricket Ground. Staff were friendly, service good and it's a great place to people watch. Worth a try.

Excellent and good value restaurant on the sea front near the flying doughnut thing.

This is a very classy restaurant. Unpretentious, beautifully prepared food. Come in your flip flops or suit; In amongst the fish and chips, this is a slice of excellence.

We visited Murmur on the recommendation of a friend but sadly walked away with an empty stomach and wallet. The starters of olives, oysters and a glass each of wine came promptly.

Had a nice lunch here with my family. It was very busy so service was a little slow but the staff were friendly and kept us in the loop. Food was imaginative and clearly cooked from scratch. Go, though maybe pick a quieter time - not reflection on the restaurant but you might have a better time!
