Super sad Ho Chiak closed down! One of my absolute favourite eats in Brighton. Thank you for all the yummy food

April 2024 Update: Sadly it seems Ho Chaik has closed down :( Not sure why - place seems intact. They even updated their menu not too long ago! But all of a sudden, lights off and a notice on the door. Not sure if the owner will see this, but thank you for all the great service, food, great value dishes and family feel! You will be missed! Hope Ho Chaik can come back some day. Good luck with whatever the future holds! -------------------------------- Original Review 2023: 5 stars all round! We recently moved to Brighton and Ho Chiak is definitely one of the best Brighton Asian food restaurants in the area. Taste, portion sizes, value and service - perfect! Was looking for a place to dine with family and stumbled on the restaurant - a selection of great Asian dishes, traditional, more rarer items and dim sum. Super fresh! The best part is that the mains come with rice included; a rarity in any restaurant We've dined in about 4/5 times now, and had a few takeaways. Both have been excellent - really friendly, polite and chatty staff. The owner is really hospitable and welcoming; it's got a warm, family feel! Honesly don't understand these reviews Recommend: The curry. So good! The porridge (congee) is great too; massive portions and great for the colder weather. Top up your meal with steamed egg buns. HEAVENLY. I don't think they're on Ubereats/Deliveroo etc - so it's one you'd need to pop by for; but well worth it! Location wise - a great spot! Near the seafront and also the main shopping hub of Western road; plus close to bars/desert places too. Totally recommended, easy 5/5 stars and will be back for more!

Just tried first time as takeaway - disappointed - too expensive for the size of portions which are much smaller than the average Chinese - taste was ok - vegy sping rolls of lowest quality really, prawn and pork chow mein with only bits of pork and 4 prawns !! - absolute robbery I would say ......

If you want a well-priced meal that’s actually going to fill you up, I definitely recommend Ho Chiak. The portions are big, the prices are reasonable, and the food is absolutely delicious. Every dish comes with a choice of rice, or a type of noodles. The staff is kind and attentive. I will definitely be going again.

Been one of my favourite Chinese for years, Im a bit of regular, their noodle soups are the best, staff are always lovely, and food is consistant

Expensive for what it was but a great atmosphere and service. MASSIVE choice of menu for everyone including children.

My only problem, is you have to have the rice even if you don’t eat it. Other wise the best Chicken Kung Po I have had eons

Everyone who served us were friendly and helpful. The fried rice and sambal belacan are my favorites. The fried vegetables are done just right - lightly fried and crunchy. Soups (we had hot and sour soup and a vegetable soup) are well balanced. They do Teh Tarik too! We had Malaysian laksa and Singapore fried bee hoon too but did not like it much. The laksa broth lacks flavour and the Singapore fried bee hoon is flavoured with curry powder which is not what we’ve expected. Overall, food is good. And if you are in Brighton and want a flavour of Malaysia, I would recommend it

Last night (29 Aug 23) in Brighton, we decided to try the Malaysian Chinese Restaurant called Ho Chiak. It was a last minute holiday plan for my family to meet up with another family friends as they were holidaying there. This restaurant was just up the street from the airbnb that we rented. What a lucky find for us! The food was in great portion & most dishes come with rice. We ordered loads as we were hungry.The service was good. Very friendly staff. I chatted a little with the man who was serving us (I forgot his name but think he was the boss-man) He was from Ipoh & was so happy to see us. The lady (who look like the bigger-boss) was also very friendly & happy to serve. She even offered to take photo for us, hence the group photo. Drop by if you are in Brighton. So nice to see a homie & enjoy their food with Teh-tarik or Soya milk drink.. So lush!

The food were very good, just a plate of rice going with the vegetable was a bit odd😉. It was late lunch. The fried rice was very tasty. Vegetable fresh. The Beef noodle didn’t have enough ‘wok chi’ else it would be 5 stars. I am glad there are so many good tasting and affordable Chinese restaurants in UK nowadays. Keep up the good work!

On our tour of England, we had the best Asian food here. The selection of dishes is large but clearly arranged. The staff is very nice and happy to help. We will be happy to come back. The Germans;-)

Simply levitated by the aroma,taste and Zein of the place. This place offers fresh, tasty Malaysian/pan asian food located on preston street. I ordered the malaysian laksa in soup which was made from udon noodles with seafood some veggies in a soup broth. The smell lit my brain and fueled my hunger. The food was piping hot and fresh and the taste was beyond yummy and fulfilled all my tastes including umami. The ambiance is very chill with nice relaxing background music, comfortable seating, clean toilettes and amazing location. Staff are so welcoming and friendly. Service speed is okey, the staff took a while to take my order but the time until food was served is acceptable given the food tasted and felt fresh. Prices are reasonable and affordable. Highly recommend!!

I went with family. The food was great. The service was really good. The chicken skewers with satay sauce, were one of the best I’ve ever had. The staff were amazing. Nice atmosphere. I would defiantly recommend

Great service and our food was amazing - all staff friendly and made it easy when ordering/ splitting bills etc. Minor issue, but plates are plastic which is a little odd in a restaurant like this, and our table was littered with Ants every so often, which made it uncomfortable at times.

Nice portion size, some nice malaysian staples, dim sum was a bit bland, maybe frozen.

First time it was so good especially the chicken fried rice Second time we expected the same taste but it was totally disappointing for us and 40 pounds waste on that day it too greedy and rice is not tasty and chicken pieces are not fried well and smell bad

TOO EXPENSIVE £10.90p FOR LAKSA SOUP THAT HAS STRIPS OF PORK WITH NOODLES. NO. I used to use this place a lot but they put there prices up more than once and now I just think there greedy and not value for money. I wanted to go there today but instead went a few doors up as it’s as good but better priced. The food was nice there but now I’m afraid me and my family won’t be going back there unless I see a price change. LOOK AFTER YOUR CUSTOMERS PLEASE DONT OVER PRICE YOUR FOOD, for these reasons I give this place a 3.7 star rating for flavour,3.8 for portion size and only 2.5 for fair trade price.

I had a lovely meal there two days ago, a noodle soup with spicy broth and fish. Super delicious. Over the years I've eaten here many times, and its a place I keep coming back to. Most of the main dishes come with rice, the portions are generous. The service is friendly, fast and efficient. Their menu has a good selection of dishes including some less seen dishes like water boiled fish. The prices are very reasonable. Overall highly recommended.

Very good value and lovely food. Staff were lovely and kept refilling our water which was nice. Recommend the Char Sui pork dumplings (basket on the left in the picture below) - was like eating a porky cloud 😋

8 of us had our annual Christmas night out and ate here prior to visiting Maggie Maes club. The lovely lady that served us sorted out a veritable feast including mixed starters followed by a lovely selection of mains. Possibly the best Chinese style foods we've ever eaten and I lived in China for 18 years previously so have good experience. This is reminiscent of Shanghai family style restaurants ,nothing flash but extremely good food , plentiful portions too. Dim sum perfect and even had black vinegar too. Non greasy , non msg aftertaste . Would highly reccomend. 5 stars . Thank you , xi xi ni .

Sino Malaysian Restaurant. They have halal and vegetarian option. The food is delicious and hearty. The friendly staff members make me come again.

Turned up here close to 10pm, when they close. Other places had turned us away because they were getting ready to close, but the Ho Chiak welcomed us, and I'm glad they did. The food was excellent and the staff were very friendly. Even though they were closing they made it clear that there was no rush to finish our food. I'd definitely recommend this place.

I really liked my first visit to Ho Chiak. Its clean and airy . Yin the front of house staff was really good at her job and from the same state I lived in in Malaysia. It had a relaxed Malaysian mixed with hipster coffee shop vibe and the food was really tasty and generous. It all tasted freshly cooked and its the sort of place Id love to make my "go to" Chinese/ Malaysian . To have a choice of authentic Malaysian and Chinese food in one place is amazing. Nice staff good food value for money

Had a lovely meal here last night, food was fresh, tasty and generous portions. The resturant offers value for money, plain rice is included with most mains, or you can pay for a larger portion of egg fried rice, which was plentyfull. All the staff were super friendly and we felt very welcome. We will come back again, next time we visit Brighton. Recomended

Great food and fabulous staff Love the place

I feel as though our delivery must have been from a totally different restaurant to those who left good reviews for this place! Sadly, our experience was terrible. Extremely expensive and poor quality. My main, clearly labelled as vegetarian on the menu arrived with prawns and strips of very dubious looking meat in it. Even aside from that error the portions and quality of the dishes were poor.

Amazing food and service and amazing fresh drinks such as apple and orange and recommended dishes would be their Malaysian fish and malaysian pork curry and their pork dumplings!

Ok, where do I start?! The staff are polite...........thats the only positive comment I can make. The Cantonese food is terrible, trying to pass off Ramen noodles as chow mein was the melting point for me. If you want decent food go to China garden or good friends which is on the same road......trust me. I'm really not sure how the reviews have given this place 4.1 stars, give this place a wide birth.

Formerly known as China China, Ho Chiak is a long time Preston street institution. I used to eat here as a student fairly often, as it's a place where you can get a decent meal for cheap! Many a birthday meal was spent here in my skint days, and to be honest I like to go back from time to time, still cheap, and the food is still great. The ribs here are the best in Brighton

Ho Chiak was named China China before. Same team but the menu changed to include several delicious Malaysian dishes. It’s my 3rd time here in the last 3 years and I always get genuine and tasty food. Definitely a flavor spot for south east Asia.

Ho Chiak offers classic Cantonese with a easy to navigate menu. We stopped in for dim sum, and the flavors were spot on, bright, and service was prompt. Will definitely be returning.

There are many favourite Singapore and Malaysian dishes here. Wish they had Hokkien mee as well. 🤭
