The best restaurants in Basingstoke and Deane South East

We arrived on time for our Sunday lunch booking. They were clearly busy but there's no real excuse for the very poor service we received. We were kept waiting at the bar for several minutes until someone finally showed us to our table. No-one took a drinks order so we got our own. We must have been waiting half an hour until our food order was taken and it would be another 40 minutes until it was finally delivered. I commented to the server that they shouldn't take the booking if they couldn't cope. Shortly after, the landlord came and suggested that I had been rude to his staff! The food was ok when it did arrive - typical pub lunch, but we will not be coming here again. I was shocked at just how poor the service was.

The food we were served was pretty good but we realised the chef was not a big fan of salt so although it was healthier, we wished there was a little more salt. It was a really quiet night so the atmosphere was perfect for a quiet chat but not great if you're in a party mood expecting a buzz. There's a great menu choice so we will go there again.

Very clean looking truck, friendly service and great kebab. We had two chicken kebabs and they were very tasty. We will definitely be going back!

Mica provided fantastic service. Lovely food and delicious deserts. Could not have given a better service and all requests were fulfilled.

Had a pre-Xmas lunch at the Wheatsheaf , North Waltham, yesterday - very nice. I had the garden medley with chicken. The portion was generous. I really enjoyed it but the chicken was a bit dry/over cooked. Price was fair.

Arrived nearly 3hours after order. I'll never use you again. Totally useless.

Clean and nice service from the staff. The food was fresh but the chicken skin wasn't crispy at all and the chips needed to be cooked longer

I’m a bit late writing this review but reminded to do so because I keep getting emails from the pub. We called into the pub to talk to them about arranging lunch for a large party after a christening. We did that especially because we wanted to know where we might be sat. This was an important event for us. We were shown a lovely area and it was explained how tables could be put together. We booked, and were looking forward to it. We were surprised when we arrived for the lunch to find we had been put in a tiny annex away from the main dining area. Chairs had been squeezed in, there was no room for high chairs or the pushchair and we had to squeeze past each other to reach seats. The children kept having to duck under the table to go to the toilet. We had been asked to pre order our meals, but many of them were wrong when they arrived and four of the desserts did not arrive and we had to find someone to ask for them ( after about 15 mins of waiting). All in all it was disappointing to say the least and we will never go there again. It felt like we were just treated like captive customers and they couldn’t be bothered. Actually we have lots of family events and our repeat custom would have been valuable.

The food was disgusting. Paid a fortune for Christmas dinner......arrived very late and COLD not Luke warm but cold . Reheated in micro wave which made everything tough ugh. Some of the party didn't even get their meal . Coffee what coffee!.

Popped in for lunch. So glad we did. Decided on the steak pie. Tender beef and good selection of well cooked vegetables. Portions were very generous.

I was pleasantly surprised at how tasty and delicious the food was.. I had the smash burger and tenders and I would have ordered more if I didn't get so full. The mojitos was a great addition

Stumbled upon this place whilst passing by and really chuffed. A good proper pub. Nothing fancy, just a nice old skool English pub. Good beer, nice atmosphere, friendly staff, and the locals seemed happy to chat too. Bravo.

Awesome food, great taste and best kebab in the whole of Basingstoke. Great family, great food and good prices
