Staff were friendly but we waited 40 minutes for sandwiches. I was told that they had lost our order due to a technical issue. When the food arrived it was mediocre and not worth the wait. As an apology they offered a free drink; when I requested a drink for each of us I was told that it was one drink between four of us, so clearly not really an apology at all. We were also absolutely freezing by the time our food came despite having winter coats on because the heaters weren't working. Again, I was told this was due to a technical issue.
Great coffee, Most Staff are unaware of how to keep the temperature comfortable for their customers.
Toilet are so much cleaner than Hove!
I had to open the door as it was so hot 22c outside, I’m 66 and don’t think it’s my job. :-)
My daughter ordered online today but the wrong food was delivered to her and also the millionaire shortbread she ordered was missing!!! I would like a refund for the food and missing item she paid for please.
Visiting Caffe Nero is a safe bet. You know what you get. we stopped here after a day in the city and got our drinks and snacks without delay. There is a good ambiance and some seats by the window with view to the street.
Had a really poor experience coming for dinner here recently. Was eating my burger and chips and had to pull a hair out of my mouth, that was buried in the chips. It was a long hair too. When I made staff aware they removed it from the bill which was nice but there was lack of compassion about the situation. Not what you expect when you’re paying £20 for a burger and chips!
Unfortunately will not be returning!!
Went to Costa opposite the M&S in Festival Place on Friday with friends. Queue was not too bad & was dealt with smoothly & efficiently. We ordered a cappuccino & two vanilla Latte along with 3 slices of the strawberry & vanilla cake. Our servers were friendly & polite & we were soon sat at a table outside the coffee shop enjoying the delicious new cake. After enjoying our break, we continued on with our shopping. Would thoroughly recommend this site & will definitely use again.
Very average lunch- have had fab better for less. Very skimpy calamari starter- all badly presented. Cauliflower cheese and fish in cheese sauce in desperate need of browning under a grill. Veggies overcooked.Generally a dissapointing meal- we would not return. Staff were friendly though.
Closed Permanently. I live nearby and sadly another idyllic venue closes. The Volunteer is tucked away forever now I’m told. Sold to a property developer who’s ideas are not to reopen or refurb as a pub.
This place is a total disaster. The staff is incredibly rude and acts like they’re doing you a favor by serving you. The cocktails are horrible—badly made and completely undrinkable. The bathrooms are filthy, and the overall hygiene is questionable. Service is slow, unfriendly, and unprofessional. Save your time and money—there are way better places to go
I’ve always been a loyal customer of Cafe Nero, more speculation at the High Street store, where I’m consistently welcomed with warm and friendly service. I’ve also occasionally visited the Gloucester Green branch and have generally been satisfied with the service there as well.
I’m based in Oxford and commute to Bicester for work via train. This morning I made a detour to Gloucester Green specifically for your Luxury White Chocolate Mocha, which I love. Upon ordering, I mentioned to the male staff member that other stores usually fill the drink to the top. I wasn’t complaining—just pointing out the difference in service. He responded politely, but the female staff member nearby scoffed and laughed, then went on to explain why they “can’t” do that. I clarified again that I wasn’t arguing, just sharing feedback.
Unfortunately, my order was then made incorrectly—I received a Luxury Hot Chocolate instead. I returned to the store and joined the queue. The male staff member was kind and apologetic, admitting he misheard and offered to remake the drink, which I appreciated.
However, the female staff member—now at the front—looked at me with visible irritation. When I explained the mistake, instead of acknowledging it or apologising, she accused me of placing the wrong order. Her attitude was rude, defensive, and unnecessarily combative.
This experience left a very negative impression on me. I typically don’t leave reviews, especially as I’ve consistently received great service from your brand. But this interaction completely shifted my perception. Customer service should always reflect courtesy and professionalism—sadly, her behaviour did not.
This is customer service, and what I experienced this morning was the opposite of what should be achieved. Instead of starting my day on a positive note, I left feeling disrespected. I didn’t anticipate that popping in for a coffee to kickstart my morning would become such a negative encounter.
