Visited here after a lovely day out and this just topped it off. Such friendly staff and couldn’t do enough for us….which also included a smiley face on my coffee for a laugh! My daughter was over the moon that they had her favorite meal and gave it a strong 10/10. Was just a fab place to go after a great day out. We’ll be back. Thank you!

Visited recently, was a bit put off by the dust on the back of the chairs, it wasn’t very clean at all plus lots of flies. We all had roast dinners, the meat was wafer thin with not much flavour, hardly any veg, the Yorkshire puddings were not great, potatoes were the best part of it. Service was extremely slow even though it wasn’t busy. Unfortunately we won’t be going back and I wouldn’t recommend.

Went here for a family meal. The food was excellent with a wide choice from the menu. The staff were very friendly but the service was very slow, despite the fact that it didn't seem that busy. Also, the outside garden area needed a good sweep and clean. Have visited before and will certainly return, if only for the food!

Charming, historic, traditional pub tucked away in Godstone. Great beers too, on draught and in bottles. Charming service, and proper grown up customers. Bring your dog if you have one. Beer garden round the back. Maybe the best vegan sausage roll I’ve ever had. Maybe. Definitely original.

Been here multiple times before and always enjoyed but today's experience was so bad I won't be returning. The service was slow as always, staff were tense and arguing with people on the phone behind us during our meal. We waited nearly and hour for desserts which turned up uncooked, dry and cold. Food is usually great so this was disappointing. We had to pay twice for a children's meal as the first one was so small my nephew was still starving. We paid £35 deposit but unfortunately 3 diners were unable to attend due to illness. We were only given £20 back off the bill despite spending nearly £150 for our meal and not questioning any of the poor quality food for which we were happy to still pay in full. The waiter barely had a chance to explain before a lady shouted at us across the bar that she would not be refunding the other £15 to us. We said it was unfair given we had tried to contact the pub in the morning but the phones weren't answered. She dismissed this and our comments about the children's meal issue and poor desserts. We didn't want an arguement to ruin our mother's day any further than they already had so we paid in full. I am a regular visitor and am really disappointed with todays experience. I regret choosing Fox and Hounds out of all the lovely pubs we have in Godstone for today's meal and I definitely won't be returning and time soon.

Shame as we have previously enjoyed F&H…Today we waited approximately 50 minutes for our food and it was really quiet in there. My food was cold when it finally made it to the table but we didn’t have time to complain after that long. It looked untidy today and bits of the wall were falling off.. I appreciate it’s an old building but it still needs upkeep. Staff were nice enough but they seemed preoccupied with their chats rather than cleaning down or getting food out. Every now and then there was an awful smell too… Anyway we’ve come home feeling sick and have no intention of returning. Sad really as such a quiet pub in a rural location needs to work really hard to keep custom and unfortunately it’s lacking just that. I don’t like writing negative reviews but if it makes them up their game then I think it’ll be a good thing.

Lovely pub, superb food, nice seating area, friendly staff. Could easily have been 5 stars but the food service was so slow it became painful. We had to wait so long for each course we got fed up and it spoiled the experience. We weren't in a rush either but the take taken was ridiculous. We also found out later (after we had ordered and were waiting for our main coures) that other tables had been given a specials menu alongside their normal menu that we were never given! I would try it again here in case it was a one off issue, as the food itself was excellent.

I have passed this pub many times on our way home and thought it looked very inviting. We went there for a family Sunday lunch and I was quite disappointed. Being a lovely day we had our meal in the garden where there was a wooden galleon for the grand children to play on. The garden itself has seen better days, the galleon had a slide , it was fairly steep but the problem lie at the bottom of it. There was just dirt and holes with black plastic sheeting starting to come through the dirt. All the adults had a roast, three were the lamb, this had a lot of sinew and appeared to be the end of the joint being small pieces of meat not slices. The pub had an offer for children where they had a free meal for each adult in the party. Apparently this does not include the desert, I was not aware of this, two children asked if they could have a mixture . When I ordered them there was no mention I would be charged double the price plus the child that had one flavour was given two scopes which was double the price.

We've been to the F&H many times over the years and it has always been good. However, today we enquired about the Hake in sauce vierge, on the specials menu, as my wife has Coeliac disease. Despite the allergens menu saying 'no gluten', the chef said there was 'flour in the stock.' As nothing else GF appealed, we left and I had to abandon a very pleasant pint rather than drive elsewhere without having eaten. I have looked at over a dozen sauce vierge recipes and can find none with either flour or stock. The constant sound of a microwave ping was a little disconcerting as well. Barmaid very friendly and apologetic. Vierge is a classic sauce, don't mess with the classics !

This historic pub is so lovely and cozy and has a lot of history as a pirate 🏴☠️ haunts the pub apparently. We stopped in to this pub on the way back from the coast onto London for an evening meal but although the pub is wonderful, there are a few flaws I’m afraid. We all ate in the restaurant but it was very cold 🥶 and that spoilt the occasion for me and my friends I’m afraid, as there was no heating and I felt a cold draught which could have been the ghost I suppose ! There is no music either which I feel is vital for a pub, and if it was on we never heard it. It doesn’t have to be loud but just adds a nice ambiance to any place and I can’t understand why pubs don’t have it in the background. Food was nice for a pub, with an extensive menu so with a few tweaks this could be a 5 Star experience !

Booked a birthday Sunday lunch. First visit. Easy to find. Car park quite small so I had to park on the road up on the muddy bank, but it was safe. Warm welcome. Lovely warm inside and could smell the fire which was inviting. We was shown to our table which was extremely snug and my husband had difficulty getting his chair out to sit down. It was full of patrons (2pm) and there was one spare table available and the staff asked if we wanted it as I think she could see that we were a little uncomfortable. We moved to the last table available which was more roomy. We all opted for the Sunday roast. Could have done with 2 Yorkshire puddings as they were quite small (size of aunt Bessie) and one wasn’t quite enough. The meal was very lovely and we all cleared out plates. Proper home cooked food. Good size portions. We had puddings which again were delicious and generous. The staff are very friendly: the pub had a really lovely atmosphere. The floor is cobbly with steps inside so need to be careful. Would definitely return and perhaps sit in the garden which I understand has been newly refurbished.

Booked lunch for 4 oldies on a quiet Monday. So different from our last crowded Sunday-fun all-age all-nations visit but still ticked all the boxes for a really nice Pub. Good choice of interesting beers, excellent choice of good food, prepared with remarkable attention to detail. First pub I've been to in a long time that had proper linen napery and napkins! Or you can use the wood booths if you don't fancy the full 'restaurant' experience. Mariella was an engaging host/barperson/server and nothing was too much trouble. The whole place is 'haunted history', but will someone please rescue the rusting white VW permanently displayed in the little carpark, before it joins the haunting?

Was recommended this pub by a friend who stated that it was going for Surrey pub of the year which fascinated me, so well worth a visit. A very old character pub, which is haunted by a pirate from the 1600’s !! ( Look it up, a fascinating story !) Staff are very friendly and we had booked a table online, and was seated by the window after I had asked to be moved from a dreary table tucked away in the dark. The bar staff told me that the locals get precedence even if you have booked which I thought a bit odd as surely it’s first come first served for the best tables! What was a bit odd though, we were told all the tables were reserved but hardly anyone turned up !!I ordered a lamb roast and it come up hot and tasty, and it was a pleasant lunch, but to be a bit picky, the roast potatoes were not crispy, but other then that the dinner was pleasant,

On our way back from East Grinstead we decided on the off chance to see if we could have Sunday lunch without having made a reservation - 13.30 ish. Friendly young staff showed us to a table in the back (secret) garden. Several sheltered table options were available. Ordered the lamb roast, sausage and bubble and squeak and a kid’s cheeseburger and chips. Impressed with the amount of meat that came with the roast. I declined the offer of a side dish of cauliflower cheese at £3.95 though!!! There was a lovely selection of seasonal veg that came with the roast anyway. Kid’s burger had a surprisingly decent burger in a brioche bun. If I was being picky, I do think they should throw in some beans or peas (would only cost pennies) for a more balanced meal. The sausage and bubble and squeak was beautifully presented with a tower of onion rings but the sausages were unfortunately bland. One small change that would improve the adult lunches is to serve the gravy separately. Lovely to have had lots with the roast but I had a very soggy Yorkshire pud. Husband said it swamped his bubble and squeak too. Will defo return. The roast and the kid’s burger were good value.

We have just returned home from the Fox and Hounds the food was good, but that is where the positives end. Having reserved a table for 7.30 on arrival no one seemed to know about the booking, the very young male behind the bar knew nothing. We were offered a table in the garden, not really suitable when there were 2 over 85s in the party so we were then shown to an indoor table that was extremely sticky. There was no evidence of any social distancing or COVID practices being observed despite a number of signs around the building. Having placed our order we then waited over an hour and a half with no apologies before we went to the bar to find out where our food was, also the drinks that had been ordered the drink arrived shortly after, the starters took another twenty minutes, they were good, but by now we were fed up, it took a further 20 minutes after the starters were cleared before we got the main course. Needless to say we did not risk ordering desserts as we would probably have been there until midnight. Even the bill took an inordinate length of time to come. No apology for the delays, no concern shown. A great pity as the actual food was good.

The landlady behind the bar was extremely helpful and polite. I had the burger which was brilliant. But everything the rest of the family ordered was tasty and delightful. A really really nice atmosphere in the pub with locals etc... highly recommended. Will 100% come back again.

Having had a couple of poor lunches in other pubs over the past few weeks we decided to try the pub we had our first date in 40 years ago this coming July, & we weren't disappointed. My wife risked a sirloin steak after having had a few tough ones at other pubs & it was cooked exactly as she asked & wasn't tough. I had the moules marinière & they were as good as in the French hotel I used regularly when I had to go to the company manufacturing facility in northern France when I was working. They also had a real fire, not one of these imitation gas ones. And to cap it all someone on the staff, like me, is a Dire Straits fan as the background music was all Dire Straits (think it may have been the Brothers In Arms album).

Very disappointing meal here yesterday. Pub is very dated and as we are not locals were not given the warmest of welcomes. No sugar free drinks available, apart from tap water. Service was ridiculously slow especially as they were not busy.

We came after a grubby dog walk and were welcomed with a great table near the fire. We were a family group with 6 children, who had a great time in the garden pirate ship! The food was really lovely and the staff were helpful and friendly and even had a biscuit for our dog! Definitely recommend.

Took three-nations, three-generations of guests to Sunday lunch here, and everything was just fine: great roasts, plenty of other options, super choice of well-displayed beers, house wine even photographed by foreigners. And juniors much enamoured of the 'haunted' stories, pics and crayons provided.

I do not normally leave reviews but the service at this restaurant was excellent . After a day at Lingfield races we came across this little gem of a pub. The service, the food and the staff were great . I would not hesitate to recommend them and will certainly go back if we are in that neck of the woods again

We visited here yesterday whilst travelling from a fair distance to view a car near by, we were 4 adults and a child. Very ‘cute’ little place, was quiet when we arrived, loved the keg of water outside for the dogs. 4 of us had sandwiches and chips, the old’ man had Shepard’s pie. It was all amazing. The lady behind the bar gave fantastic customer service! The kitchen had missed a couple of items off our bill when bringing our food out, but that was soon fixed. Sat in the garden, whilst my son played on the pirate ship! We would definitely be back when in the area!

Our elderly friend had recently had her 91st birthday and we wanted to take her out to lunch to celebrate . I liked the look of the menu at The Fox a Hounds as ,in my experience, older people want well cooked and nicely presented food without drizzles and jus!

Visited prior to Segway course . Arrived on a very wet and nasty lunchtime! It was packed out . Obviously a good sign.. the decor is modern country and lovely . Staff were knowledgeable and slick with service. A good place for lunch or just a drink .

We went here for dinner while on holiday. We were given a warm welcome and the service was faultless and friendly. There was a good choice on the menu and the food we had was delicious. We found room for pudding and so pleased we did as it was so tasty. We stayed for drinks afterwards and staff were friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend to anyone and I'm disappointed we're not locals

We ordered prawn sandwich with Mary Rose sauce with brown granary bread. What we got was dry white/brown bread, barely any Marie rose sauce and the overwhelming taste of cheap margarine. Service OK but Sorry.. Bad sandwichs

Lovely old pub out in the country. We visited on a very hot day and enjoyed our meal in the garden watching the birds on the feeders. Friendly welcome and no World Cup - wonderful. Food took a while but not too bad and when it arrived it was very good. I had the three cheese platter (ploughman’s) which turned out to be a bit of a struggle as it was huge. Next time I think we will share! Ashamed to say that although I have lived within about six miles of this pub for 60 years of my life (not all of them drinking years of course) I had never visited before. I will certainly return.

We recently stopped here for lunch. I can’t remember the last time I visited such a friendly pub. Our dog was also made very welcome with a treat of ham from the landlady (as she is not able to eat normal dog biscuits due to a wheat intolerance). The food was Home cooked and lovely. Will definitely visit again. Highly recommended

We visited Fox and Hounds having been to Godstones Farm. The pub was very close and welcoming. There is a nice enclosed garden with a pirate ship which the children played with happily.

Our walking group just managed to squeeze into this busy pub. The Sunday Roast was the tastiest and lowest priced I have experienced in quite a while. The garden looked a good prospect for the summer months and ideal for children.

A midweek lunchtime treat for my father - good basic menu with all the favourite pub lunch dishes, plus various real ales and wines. All pleasantly served by the lady owner.

We went for Sunday lunch. There was only lamb or beef so I ordered the belly pork. The roast beef dinner seemed and tasted to have been reheated and it was flavourless. The beef appeared to have started off as good quality but by the time of our lunch was just dry as was the Yorkshire Pudding. The belly pork was awful and was the dry grated cabbage it came with. I have no idea how belly pork can appear as a tower of fat and gristle with "crackling" that was limp and tough. I went out into the bar area to see the man who served us but he was eating his own Sunday lunch in the pub section so did not disturb him. There were no other staff present on the day. When I did get to explain that I had only eaten the mashed potato as the rest was inedible his only comment was the Chef had reverted with "I should have been given a steak knife." Even if a steak knife could saw through a piece of dense rubber costing £15 you would need to consider the effect it would have on your dentistry bill. No apologies, no mention of would I like say, even a bowl of chips and the full price was charged. I left so hungry that my Husband bought me another lunch at The Bell in Godstone. Lots of staff, lots of smiles, lovely food. Don't drive past it to get to the Fox and Hounds.

It was a fairly quiet night, but the food and service were outstanding as usual. Some opted for the new 'set menu' some from the normal menu. The only thing that was different from what was stated was the soup of the day.

Great service, great Sunday Roast and staff really friendly and attentive. The bar had a fab variety of real ales and wines. Dining area was spacious I noticed the black board had details of upcoming events such as Sea Shanty evenings. Car park too which was really handy for our small children and walking distance for my mum. Will be returning.
