The George Inn in Tandridge

Great service, great Sunday Roast and staff really friendly and attentive. The bar had a fab variety of real ales and wines. Dining area was spacious I noticed the black board had details of upcoming events such as Sea Shanty evenings. Car park too which was really handy for our small children and walking distance for my mum. Will be returning.

Food & Service was on point Staff were kind food was spot on Give chef my thanks amazing food! Had the Roast chicken Served with Potatoes and Yorkshire pudding - Trimmings inside. Food came out nice and hot mint and apple sauce was Very nice - Had a desert Hot brownie annd vanilla ice cream very nice and flavourful. All in all 10/10 Thank you to all the George Inn Staff!

Service appalling. Food awful. Sunday lunch consisted of scrawny chicken leg and thigh. Cheap and nasty vegs. No parsnip. Not brussels. Roast potatoes ha re d. Beef and pork tough. NEVER AGAIN

Booked table for mid day 21st December. On arrival really cold inside! told of what was not on menu, ordered drinks, alcohol came, coffee took 20 minutes apparently no hot water! Ordered off menu then told after another 20 minutes no chef. Could book pub over the road told also no chef. Would never entertain booking or going to The George Inn Old Oxted ever again.

Good food and lovely guy trying to hold it all together, but a pub with no beer and struggling with both starters and mains, saucers for coffee cups, awful decaf coffee, no decaf tea and zero atmosphere is unfortunately a lost cause!

I last visited the George Inn about 10 years ago when I was working in the area and I decided to revisit and try their Sunday lunch menu. I was very disappointed. There was a mixed meat option. I asked what it was and I was told chicken, beef and pork. However, the waitress thought they may have run out of chicken because they had been busy. After waiting about 30 minutes our meal eventually arrived with a small amount of pork and a small amount of beef but no chicken. Lots of veg, gravy and Yorkshire pudding. We ate it and it was just okay: some parts better than others. When we finished it took a while to get the bill and when it arrived, we were charged full price for the mixed meat lunch. I questioned this saying there was no chicken and no extra meat to compensate. I was told that it was still a mixed meat lunch and so was charged full price. What a liberty! Slow service, below-standard meal and over-priced bill. We will not be returning!

In Oxted for a show, needed to eat, found the George pub in old Oxted, very quiet but it was Thursday, staff friendly and service reasonable, the food was very good no complaints at all, only drawback, the cost, it is not cheap, £10/£12 would be ok, £16.99 pushing things a bit but in fairness the costs have gone up so ok, nice place though but not for a regular outing

Pub had a ticket only event which we weren’t aware of till we got there. Staff was very rude and very poor in explaining the situation. First thing we was told is we have 2 hrs grace then we’d be asked to leave. It took me having to ask if we could buy tickets before this was made clear. Staff need to have a bit of communication training and maybe we would have stayed.

The best fish and chips I’ve had in a long time! Friendly service and good prices. The restaurant is in a lovely area with stunning views of the countryside. Well worth a visit.

Steak night on Thursday is a great family evening. Tasty steaks, well cooked, great value and served by friendly staff. Could do with a more interesting wine list and better choice of beer

We went to the New Year's Eve event. A two course meal and followed by a band at the Crown....its sister pub. We arrived at 19.50. We were seated away from the rest of the diners due to numbers or the fact we were the last to arrive.....of the 20 booked for this event. Service was slow from getting menus and drinks. There seemed to be only one member of staff serving drinks and waIting on tables. Another staff member materialised after we had ordered and we thought things might improve, as she served our starters after about 40 minutes...... but sadly she left after about half an hour.....so back to the same sole server. We chased for our main course having been in the place for an hour and 20 minutes. We were about to leave as it was just too slow, but we heard the server telling the kitchen staff she was getting complaints. She managed to shift our order up somehow, but it was at least 45 minutes after our starter. My fish was OK, my wife's Pork belly ....not so....was burnt and not appetising. Edible but not enjoyable. We could not be bothered to wait for dessert as we were running late for the band now. We did pass comments to the server and felt for her, as clearly she was not being supported in her role with staff. She graciously gave us my beer and my wife's wine as a complementary apology, so no charge. Which was kind of her. She also arranged for us to have a free round of drinks at the sister pub, which was honoured. However the whole experience was not pleasant, and we felt our evening was definitely tainted by this meal. The owners need to get more staff in the George because if not reviews like this may well occur again

We had a lovely evening. We originally booked to come as they were advertising cocktail trees! Very exciting. However when we sat down and asked for one were told that cocktails/cocktail trees weren't available even though there were signs on the walls. This was due to staff shortage. Our food was hot and tasty. Service was slow because they were short but staff remained happy and polite.

We joined friends for a set meal and jazz last Saturday 22nd October. The jazz was fabulous, great trio. Unfortunately, the starter was mediocre and my mains, Caribbean stew was very, very disappointing, bland and tasteless. Will definitely not be dining there again.

We visited The George for dinner on a Friday and the food was absolutely wonderful! My partner and I ordered a mixture of starters and mains, which were delicious. The salmon was cooked perfectly, as were the chicken wings. Gorgeous menu, would recommend and will be visiting again!

Looking for somewhere for lunch for three, found this lovely place. The young gentleman serving behind the bar displayed exactly the right balance between friendly and professional. The service was excellent. The food was amazing I had the vegetarian curry and my friends both had the fish and chips. All tasted fabulous. Would definitely recommend and revisit if I am back in this area.

Visited for Fathers Day and was average. Thank goodness we were the first to order when it opened as there was problems with kitchen staff so waited an hour and 10 mins for food to come. Halloumi burger amazing but fish and chips average. No specials that were advertised on the board were available and half of the items on the children's menu were unavailable too. Lovely friendly waiting staff. No atmosphere. No effort had been made for Father's Day and with a few small changes it could've been so much better. Pub next door was rammed. Such a shame as used to visit this pub years ago and had many amazing family get to gethers there but sadly won't be visiting again anytime soon.

Lovely old dog friendly pub, with ample parking round the back. Really friendly atmosphere, great decor , staff were friendly and helpful. We ordered a pork loin roast and the dirty burger with chips ,,, gorgeous. Large plates, delicious and hot and a lovely open fire which was welcoming on a dry chilly day . We definitely recommend and will be back soon .

This lovely old coaching inn serves the best Sunday Lunch in Oxted . Would definitely recommend especially the cauliflower cheese !

Spent a very enjoyable afternoon at the George Inn today. I had a delicious "Mushroom Pepperpot", Thai Red Vegan Curry and Basmati Rice, Spiced Pear and Berry Crumble with Custard. I couldn't fault the food or the friendliness of the staff. The staff were friendly but didn't pester us (for approval or to leave the venue). It was a great open, tidy restaurant in which to shelter from the last of Storm Eunice, but at times we couldn't hear our own conversation over the voices of nearby customers. This isn't to blame the George Inn, but one family allowed their children to play videos on a phone and play with balls indoors. We enjoyed our visit so much, we stayed from 1.30pm til 6pm with coffees and complimentary mints. This pub/restaurant also has rear parking on a busy yellow line high street.

Nice pub , but unfortunately let down by checking out their website menu first then finding the menu was completely different and the dishes I was looking forward to were not available. Service was good, food was average pub food, and they appeared to have only one Ale on tap.

Cosy pub with an open fire and plenty of character. Staff are super friendly and the food is great - would recommend the George burger and Sunday roast but there are always good options on the specials. There is a decent cocktail menu and 5-7pm happy hour on Fri/Sat, and you might even catch some live music on a Saturday!

We arrived on a Saturday evening and the place was very quiet. Two other pubs we tried to book in the area were fully booked. So slightly concerned. Service was ok though a little slow. I chose a steak pie. It was quite tasty though presentation was not special. My wife had a chicken pasta dish with garlic bread. It looked awful on arrival. Mountains of pasta. Little chicken in the dish with a sauce that looked as though it had oil in it. It was unappetising and she ate little if it. It was so bad I am surprised that anyone would walk it to a table. There needs to be a change in the kitchen. Now I understand why the place was quiet.

Went in for some lavish food, which was highly edible. Service was fantastic and the general ambiance excelled greatly. Would massively recommend the burgers. Big shoutout to our waiter Jacob for the evening.

I enjoyed a recent meal out at the George, and had been meaning to go for a while. The ribeye steak was cooked well, as was the pork belly. It was worth the wait in the end. Great value with that eat out to help out discount. Serves Sussex Best which was in reasonable form. Friendly staff who had a good attitude.

During lock down the George is running reduced hours, shuts the bar at 10, and social distancing inside and out. Lots of sanitiser and cleaning products. Staff keeping a brave face in masks. Much quieter than precovid

A nice place for a quiet drink on a Saturday evening. My friends were able to order just a dessert so there is obviously flexibility around the menu. An impressive tree of cocktails was prepared and presented to a table near us as well! Toilets are nice. Not sure about accessibility for wheelchair users as there are some steps within the pub. Overall pleasant, would come back.

Was absolutely thrilled to frequent the George over the weekend, was excited to try the new menu and my excited expectations were met, great evening, delicious food that was beautifully executed and charming bar staff making excellent cocktails. Well done George Inn, this is exactly what Oxted needs.

A party of four of us went there mid-week for lunch. Just two items for starters on the menu and three main courses (fish and chips, sausages and mash, and a vegetarian dish) plus three offers of steaks including an inedible (tough) Onglet steak which I unfortunately ordered. The desserts menu was very limited as well. The place was virtually empty .

Sunday lunch...meat and veg all delicious but roasties had been warmed up from earlier. I'll give it another try.

Staff were friendly but unfortunately even though we pre-ordered out food 2 days in advance when we arrived we were told they have not had the last two deliveries so couldn't give us what we had asked for. We were a large group so 4 or 5 had to change their main order. All of the mains arrived cold, real shame. 3 people didn't finish their mains as they were cold and not tasty. Real shame as it was a family get together. But, to their credit, the staff realised the problems and gave us a significant discount by way of apology.

Took 97 year old mum for lunch. The food was delicious. Mum always finds waiting times too long, as she has got older her conception of time has become more childlike. Actually the wait was not too long and the service was good.

Excellent lunch for 16. We did pre order and the food was lovely, the waitresses were lovely. We had drinks with a bigger crowd afterwards and it was great. Considering they were 3 months in on the ownership, Heather the manager was awesome!

21.01.2018 Celebration family lunch for my Brothers 60th x14 people. A ruined celebration , in a word AWFUL. Very disappointing choice for a Sunday lunch. Extremely Slow kitchen service. No orders came out the same time, when they Did the Orders very incorrect , roasts were cold. Only received 12 meals in the end and did not bother to wait any longer for final two. No desserts ordered as couldn’t risk it . It was not the waiting’s staffs fault. Problem lied with the kitchen and the chef on duty - awful. Very very disappointed . Oh - place was empty of diners bar one other small table so kitchen not busy .

This pub has by far the best steak I've eaten, even compared to fancy London restaurants, their food is really good and service is great. For some reason the pub next door is so much busier although the food is a big disappointment...

Very nice food and quick services for family downside it was a bit chilly as we were by the door not that it put me off coming.

Very disappointed. Expensive meal for what it was. The menu looked good but the food didn't deliver. Mushy peas were dry, burger nothing special and the 'chips' that came with the fish were badly cooked. We also weren't asked how the meal was, so we didn't have chance to feedback unfortunately.

Visited on Bank Holiday Monday for lunch. Not too busy. Service is fine. What let it down was the quality of the food. The burger was underwhelming and my friend, who ordered the fish and chips, was really unimpressed (overly oily fish, potato wedges weren't particularly good). For the price, it didn't feel that the quality was delivered. Overall, they're trying too hard to be a gastro-pub but lack any authenticity ("blue" branding is tacky). I wouldn't recommend it for lunch/ dinner unless they're able to up their game in the kitchen.

Had a family party today in the marque had preordered our main meals but they were delayed 1.1/2 hours. The meals were excellent quality but we're not hot, and this is second time we've had meals and both times been cold. Can't fault the service excellent staff very pleasant and helpful. Disappointed about the marque's being a bit too cold.

Expensive for what it was. We had to wait almost an hour from ordering until we got our food. For the prices charged and for the time taken to get our food it would have been a nice touch if some bread and dips could have been served. My stake was good, but my wife's main course had to much salt added to it. We had cheese for second course which we shared, small amount of cheese with no biscuits or bread offered, not good value at almost £7.00. The main courses did not include any side dishes or salad garnish and were £3.00 each. Would we go again, no.

We were lucky enough to have an evening meal at the George recently and what a refreshingly different eating experience it was! Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and the food was really delicious....it will certainly be on our eating circuit in future!

Much improved over the last few years, recently refurbished, good food, friendly staff and a good wine list. Once avoided now recommended.
