The Bell Inn in Tandridge

I used to really like this pub for food however (I know… I should probably expect on this day) the Valentine’s Day menu was hell. The staff are very friendly can’t fault them but we have said we will never go back again due to the food. The chipotle chicken starter had mainly chicken but some random bits of pork in there ? Drowned in bbq sauce. They had NO steaks (our reservation wasn’t late) We weren’t told this until after we ordered. I went for the “rotisserie 1/2 chicken” instead, now I’m no expert... but you can’t call 2 plain chicken legs half a rotisserie chicken 😂 you have to laugh. The chocolate bomb- the sauce was barely warm - so after hacking at it for a bit I didn’t even eat it because the sponge inside was semi thawed and bland. Poor poor food.

Came here today after visiting Godstone farm - friendly atmosphere as you walk in. A young lady served us to start with and was incredible, took our drink orders which came quickly! She also got my son some colouring pencils and went out her way to go and grab more paper as they’d run out. She was a very smiley lady and really is a credit to the team. Food was incredible!!! I would say it is pricey and I would expect more - I had the burger and oh my the beef sauce it came with was incredible - I have never had anything like it - it was one of the best burgers I’ve ever had! With the price you’d expect maybe some coleslaw or something on the side as it was a £20 burger! But honestly so good! We also were served by a male today who was also very good and polite! Though we live a distance from here we would defo come here again! Thank you so much 😊

A top venue to meet friends and family. Large car park. Good local walks around village green. Slap bang on 6 of M25. Perfect.

Very enjoyable but very slow service

Fantastic service and great food and drinks. We had lunch on Christmas Day which was excellent and this was my second visit for lunch which was also great! The staff are so welcoming and make the experience really special. Will be back soon!

Superb atmosphere. The conservatory dining room is like the rest of the establishment, very clean, and very well maintained. As soon as we arrived the waiter greeted us, took time for a chat, and made us feel most welcome. The waiter who served us was just as good with a lovely attitude and personality. We were served excellent food, and nothing was too much trouble. I would highly recommend this venue, and we will most certainly be visiting again. Thank you to all of the staff who looked after us.

A beautiful Sunday roast, potatoes crispy. The beef was tender, vegetables cooked perfectly. Been to The Bell a couple of times never lets us down! A lovely welcome. Service was friendly and helpful.

Have visited The Bell many times, so booked for Boxing Day. The menu offered a good selection and all the food we had was well cooked, tasty and nicely presented. We have always had very good service, and this was no exception , particularly the young waitress who offered to log into their Wi-Fi for me as I was having difficulties. There was a good atmosphere and we had a lovely relaxed meal. My only comment is that the place could benefit from a lick of paint as looking a little tired in places. Of the three ladies toilets, one was out of order, and another had no door lock - disappointing. As it was a cold day it would also have been nice to have the log fires lit, and there didn’t seem to be any heating on so we were a little chilly.

Friendly, efficient service in pleasant surroundings

Had an excellent lunch the Saturday before Christmas. I had the Dirty Burger which is really good and othered in the party enjoyed their food. We did however, have to wait about an hour for our food. It was very busy but it would have been nice to get a heads up when we ordered. We did get a free round of drinks as compensation which was nice touch. The milieu could do with a bit of TLC.

I've delayed posting this review as the stars don't really reflect the issues here, so I will attempt to explain. I visited here for a work Christmas meal of 30ish people. It's a pleasant pub with a nice interior , seems to have a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere. Service wise staff were really efficient , pleasant and welcoming and did go the extra mile to be genuinely pleasant. A star lost on service because some of the cutlery , especially forks, were dirty on the back of the prongs, issue with the design of the forks maybe. This isn't, however, a big deal to me , it happens in catering . Food was amazing , can't fault the quality , well cooked, well seasoned HOWEVER the roast turkey dinner was 2 x small slices of turkey, 2 x small roast potatoes, 1 small pig in blanket, 1 tiny stuffing ball. Vegetable wise quarter of a small carrot each, quarter of a small parsnip each and 4 or 5 brussel sprouts . Desert was also on the small side - I expect a whole lot more for £36.00. This is the 1st Christmas style lunch I have had where I had to stop for a meal deal within an hour of leaving . I think there was meant to be one small bowl of veg per person , but we actually ended up with 1 between 2 of us . Maybe I should have brought a ration card ! They also offered a kids meal - i dread to think what the kids would get, probably a plate with crumbs on. This is by far the smallest portion I have ever seen on a pub plate, let alone for a Christmas style meal. Lovely place, really good staff, well prepared - completely let down by a complete lack of value for money virging on stinginess. I don't have a huge appetite , so I feel sorry for anyone that does . Hated writing this review , this establishment deserves a whole lot better than being let down so massively in one major area

The staff at the Bell Inn were exceptional. Grace, our server, was attentive and helpful. We made a mistake at the bar, but the bartender and bar manager were incredibly understanding and resolved the issue without any fuss. Their professionalism and positive attitude made our dining experience even more enjoyable. The food was delicious, too.

Absolutely lovely and calming atmosphere. Service was fantastic and food was superb. Whole family really enjoyed the visit and we will certainly be going back.

We had a great time ! The staff were friendly and helpful, and the food was excellent - nice wine choices too. My sister comes over for Christmas most years ( except the Covid years ) from the USA and our first port of call after we get out of Heathrow is The Bell - long may this tradition continue !

Boxing day and really, really busy. Food was really good, sevice was good too (allowing for just how busy they were) and staff were as attentive as they coyld be. A definite 9/10 for an enjoyable afternoon. 🙂

We hired the Godstone Room at the Bell Inn for our mothers, 80th birthday and we couldn't of been happier. The room was lovely, the food excellent and service was fantastic. A particular shout out to Sammy, who was incredible as our host for the day. Would highly recommend.

We booked to go to The Bell, Godstone on Sat 21/12. We requested a table in their Conservatory, knowing this wasn't guaranteed. When we arrived we could see the conservatory was only about half full. When we checked in they said that they weren't using the Conservatory, we pointed out there were diners in there, but they were adamant we had to sit in the pub area. So we left. Obviously run for their convenience not the customers. Just a footnote, we went across to the White Hart opposite at about 8.30pm. We could see there were plenty of empty tables, only to be told they had been so busy today they weren't accepting any more customers. So we went to the Thai in Oxted, whish was full and really busy but they put in an extra table to accommodate us. At least they put the customer first.

Shortly after we were seated and ordered drinks we asked to be moved to a different area as the noise level at the location where we were sitting was very high. The male member of staff who responded to our request told us that the noise level in the area to which we asked to be moved would be at least as high (which subsequently proved to be incorrect) and, when we said we would still like to move, demanded that we give the true reason for wanting to do so, so that he could "accommodate" us. To accuse your own customers of being untruthful, at a volume high enough to be clearly heard by other customers, in response to an innocuous and reasonable request, is completely unacceptable. We considered leaving immediately but decided it was less trouble to stay. We were then moved twice (after we had sat down at it, we were told by the same person that the first of the alternative tables he had offered us was in fact unavailable). The other serving staff were friendly and helpful and the meal was of a good standard but this incident at the start significantly diminished our enjoyment of the lunch.

We went for a festive lunch and although drinks were served quickly and our order taken within a reasonable timescale, our order took an hour and three quarters to arrive, two of my scallops out of four were cold and the vegetables were very much under cooked. We complained to a member of staff and they returned to say the manager apologised but they have had problems today. Call me old fashioned, but whatever happened to a face to face apology. We were offered some additional free drinks which we declined because we needed to be somewhere else, but there was no offer to reduce the bill. We have eaten here before and had excellent meals and service and we realise that things do not always go to plan, but it is how a situation is handled when it doesn't go well that matters. I think management need to listen to the feedback and take meaningful action to remedy the shortcomings because the other four tables around us were also complaining.

Really lovely meal at the Bell Inn. We had Bailey as our server who was brilliant.

Enjoyed a family Christmas meal at the Bell.  Thank you to Sam our waiter for looking after us.  We have visited before and each time notice how well Luca supervises everyone, he has great skill in noticing what diners may need and keeping his eye on everything and everyone. It is usually quite busy and often very busy - Luca stands out as a professional in hospitality and is key at the Bell in looking after all diners. Overall the food was good and the lamb especially popular in our group.

Considering there were 15 of us, everything was so efficient with meals all coming out at the same time.

The food is amazing as well as service, with loads of friendly staff. Seas bass was great, would recommend. Lots of space in the car park.

My advice to make it perfect is for bigger flatter plates for the Seabass to accommodate more vegetables which are an inexpensive addition.

We ate here on Saturday and the food was shocking.. The prawn starter was tasteless and over cooked with guts still in. The kids pizza was slap dash and they didn't eat hardly any of it.. My "dirty burger" was exactly that, an overworked hockey Puck of a burger what some sort of mush on top. The FOH staff were very nice but the chef needs to pull his head out of his arse.

Brilliant experience great lunch

Felt squeezed into an area with view of the disabled toilet and heavy footfall past our table. The starter of artisan bread as a sharer for the table was minimal and not adequate for the number of people, it was dry as toasted and certainly not fresh. The pork belly was overcooked and the green veg on the side was very small for the number of people on our table and a poor selection. The mini desserts did not come with the hot drink, although the manager did give additional hot drinks to be served with the desserts. Overall the food was cold and I was disappointed.

Had a very enjoyable evening, very friendly waitress,log fires, good food. All excellent.

Lovely pub and food which I cannot fault. However the carpark is a public carpark. Consequently dog walkers, people going to the cafe on the green use it because there are no restrictions. Most times the carpark is full and that's not because people are dining in the restaurant. They need to put restrictions in force as most pubs nowadays have done for customers only.

I went 01/11/24 for food and I would recommend this beautful place for anyone. One of the managers James was brilliant with his service!

Food was fantastic and was cooked and presented with obvious flair and attention. We had the Sunday roasts and would thoroughly recommend. Our waiter Bailee made the whole afternoon run smoothly and is friendly, helpful and attentive. He knew the menu thoroughly and offered an alternative when an item wasn't available. One of our party has a nut allergy and he was confident to advise on this matter. Atmosphere was lively with lots of mixed groups who all seemed to be enjoying the experience. Looking forward to returning and trying the rest of the menu.

Only stopped for a drink. I prefer this pub if I'm drinking in Godstone, but it's definitely a food pub then a drinkers pub. Good pint of Madri

Very attentive staff and food was excellent

Loved the decor, the courteous staff , the quality of the food and the value for money. All great. We did ask for a quiet table when we booked and we were put in a fairly busy area but it wasn't a massive problem. Our experience was mainly favourable and we would definitely come again if we are in the area.

We used the function room for a meeting today and Luca and the team were fantastic, well set up room and ace food. Would definately recommend.

We were so impressed yesterday when we took my grandmother here for a roast. The staff are warm, friendly and inviting and they cannot do enough for you. We had an absolutely gorgeous roast followed by a delicious pudding. We will definitely be coming again. The places oozes warmth and charm and we feel very lucky we have such a gem of a place so close to us.

We were a large group and the waiter was brilliant. Matched our energy which is always great.

Stopped off for an impromptu meal because of heavy traffic on way home. Glad I did! Food is excellent

Our visit was a special 60th birthday lunch for 16 friends. Before the visit the manager Luca was very helpful. We chose to eat in the Upper Room which was a beautiful room and perfect for us. Luca answered all my email requests promptly and was very accommodating. On the day we were assigned our own waitress Rohan who was very professional and friendly and again very helpful. The food was of a very high standard and my guests had a great day. Thank you

Delicious roast dinner, we had the 'Belly pork and chicken, Beautifully cooked and presented, gravy was flavoursome but we both said a tad too rich for our liking. Friendly Great service from staff, we will be back.

We went for a family celebration and I must say this has got to be one of the finest places to dine,. Short 30 minute trip from my home location and I would be happy to travel twice as far for such a beautiful restaurant. Great food,. fantastic service and a great atmosphere. Godstone residents are really spoilt for choice of two such lovely restaurants nearly opposite each other.

Too expensive for the quality of cooking - certain items not cooked to satisfaction eg: crispy items not crispy.

We love this pub, the foods fantastic and the setting inside and out, beautiful.

Very good service by friendly professional staff. Don't expect too much regarding the food. For example the half roast chicken is exactly that and a potion of chips. The same when it comes to the lasagne. You have to add the things that other restaurants include as standard. The burger really looks totally lost on its own on what really doesn't need to be such a big plate as it comes totally on its own except for the chips. Value wise, restaurants such as Bills and many other independent pubs easily beat this pub chain when it comes down to what you get for your pound.

Great mid week lunch stop off - greated by a friendly team who showed us through the conservatory we opted for the fixed price lunch deal great value at two courses for just £18.50 I enjoyed squid and then a whale of a fish n chips well my partner opted for the gammon & eggs and a chocolate brownie - warm welcoming a great value will definitely be back.

To be fair the food was a bit above average for this type of pub but what let it down was the very slow service. There seemed to be enough wait staff so presumably the kitchen could not cope on a fairly busy Friday lunchtime. Unbelievably only 2 types of both white and red wine are available by the glass & only one rose - a very overpriced one at that.

I enjoyed a tasty Friday evening roast dinner with my wife and friends, after swimming at Divers Cove and I am grateful for the efficient, personable, easy and attentive service from May, thanks.

This evening, we had a wonderful meal with close family—parents and in-laws—to celebrate my wife's birthday. Our children and our dog 🐕 were also present. The food was beautifully presented, with generous portions that were all clearly freshly made. The desserts were equally delicious, and the restaurant decorated a dish for the occasion.

Beautiful terrace, part of which is also non-smoking. There are also benches where you can sit relaxed. You can order from the staff or via a QR code.
