Costa Coffee in West Oxfordshire

A great Costa Coffee! The staff are hardworking, friendly, and keep the place spotlessly clean. It’s refreshing to see such a positive and hands-on store manager. Even though it’s a busy location, the service is always top-notch. I’m also loving the autumn drinks on the menu right now!

Can't fault drinks but staff never seem very friendly and you feel your putting them out asking for food or drink.

Pleased to find a Costa open early in the middle of nowhere. Really well presented and impeccably clean cafe, loo and serving area. Staff very friendly.

Standard Costa get exactly what you expect and it's delightful. Plenty of seating inside and a little outside of the weather permits!

Very good staff I am in a wheelchair and they always make sure the doors are open for disabled customers. They always know what you want and bring it outside for me so that i can have my coffee in the nice weather

Some of the staff are very good and quick with orders, some also give the impression that they would rather be somewhere else. Choice is good, although for the slightly higher price your paying for the hot drinks-compared to other local places we wasn't that impressed. Loads of seating which is good, although the decor is abit generic and the atmosphere could be better. Cleanliness of tables and loos etc seems to be abit hit an miss around busier times/lunchtimes.

Great staff, great service, great coffee.

Watched one of the staff sweep the floor and then sweep the table with the same broom. Never came back to wipe it, just swept crumbs off with a dirty brush, nice!!!

We use this Costa regularly as it is local, so ratther than rate a single visit I will give a broader view of our experiences. Most poeple know what a Costa is, the food is the same across them to a large degree, even a toastie - out of the packet and into a commerical oven for XX seconds, so quality is IMHO about the same at every Costa. Coffee is slightly different, and this we find varies a bit more, sometimes it is great, other times not so great, and recently me and the wife found we had an awful cup in a visit, not sure if its duff beans, or the Barrista's technique? What we find is it can be busy at times, and maybe a bit short on staff at others? but generally it does not take long to get served and it is normally easy enough to find a table to sit at. Typically the staff are very good, some of the ones that have been there a while are excellent. The place is typically clean, but at busy times the tables may not have been cleaned from the last people, not helped by so many peope leaving a big mess, even our toddler year old can take his own rubbish and put it in the bin. Most days I would give the place a rating of 3 or 4, sadly on rare occasions it scrapes a 2.

Shocking. Came in for a hot chocolate and a toastie. The young man at the till looked like he did not want to be there and was actually quite rude. “What do you want” the tone he used I was actually quite shocked. My toastie was a takeaway one and not only was it cold and soggy and not cooked properly they didn’t even cut it. Absolutely shocking really don’t reccomend coming here

Don't rate the team and standard of customer service at all in this Costa. Unfortunately it's clear to observe that this stems from the manager and a reflection of her poor standard of customer service. We've watched her copious times not coping with a cue of customers, getting flustered, orders incorrect and turning it onto the customer with her direct and abrubt tone and icy stare. There's no genuine warmth from her at all. Each and every time it's like customers are an inconvenience. This is not ok when people are spending money with your company, it makes the customer experience unsatisfying and if we're honest, it's better once we walk away and take a seat or leave the shop. Apologies but hopefully this will be seen as constructive and an indication that standard of service requires a little refinement.

Did I really hear 'hopefully you'll cheer up after a coffee' after a very long wait for no apparent reason and having to go back for a new lid as it wasn't put on correctly. Wow.

Some staff are better than others

Can't thank the staff enough at your carteron branch.. this morning 23/02/2022 for the help they gave me. Excellent customer service and always friendly and approachable! I had a private issue and they couldn't have been more helpful if I could give them an award I would do..I was already a happy customer of this wonderful coffee shop and even more so now** thank you so so much 😊

Asked for extra hot, it was luke warm. Bacon sandwich barely edible

The ladies are always so helpful, kind and understanding. I have medical issues and my wife has just had a shoulder operation. They go out of their way to make our pitstop or my drawing mornings as easy as possible.

Sunday morning visit. Bought x4 croissants and cakes and all were dry and clearly days old.

i came in to get a drink and a ham and cheese sandwich and i was appalled by the lack of care and quality taken in the food. Will not be returning as i was retching at the wet bread that was advertised to be warm crunchy toast. The water was also opened and i threw it out, shocking.

The new manager is so lovely, kind and considerate. Lovely roomy coffee shop which is superbly clean and welcoming. All the staff greet you with a smile. My favourite Costa to visit.

Lovely Costa. When we are in the area we always pop by and family visit us there as it's their favourite place in Carterton too - it's never too busy or loud and just a perfect place to catch up with people, do a bit of work or just relax! Gemma at Costa is always a pleasure too. As are most of the staff!

Did click and collect and went in, Oh sorry 'darling' click and collect hasn't work here for weeks. Oh but we can't do anything about it either as we are a franchise 'sweetheart' so just wait for the refund. So we stood waiting, erm can we order now then? Of course darling, what can I get you? Let me tell you how irritating it is to have them say 'darling' sweetheart' 'lovely' that many times during one small order. Then to listen to it again while we waited for our order. They didn't have the 'light dairy swirl' but couldn't really tell us what the difference was, they 'think' it is dairy free, but not sure. The you lady really needs to change her attitude, because we are not her 'darlings' and it just ends up just sounding patronising. Wouldn't hurry to return.

Awful mix of slow and incorrect service - the number of people who were returning with wrong orders and leaving without their drinks due to the wait time was ridiculous. Should have just closed for the day.

Quick service and helpful staff

I went into Costa in Carterton this morning at around 10 am on the 28th May 2021. I am exempt from wearing a mask so out of respect i covered my face with my top. On entry I was shouted at across the store by the manager whose name is leah, she said, excuse me you NEED to wear a mask, I explained that i am exempt and had forgotten my lanyard, I offered to show her on my phone, she then said well if you're exempt why are you covering your face? I explained that it was out of respect. I went on to ask if I could use the toilet and she said only if I'd bought something, I explained that I had a medical condition and a card saying i need to use the toilet in an emergency, leah still said no, I then said if i don't use the toilet quickly i will end up peeing on the floor, leah then said well pee on the floor then, this was in front of a shop full of customers in a food establishment. She then told me to leave her shop! I explained that I am also a manager and that she was being very rude and discriminatory towards me, as i have a sensitive medical condition which was being forced to be explained in front of the whole shop. This was very embarrassing. I then left the shop and she followed me outside and went to sit down and smoke a cigarette, again in front of all of the customers. I said to her all i wanted was to use the toilet, all she kept saying was that's nice, this was extremely patronising and made me angry, she then said she was going to call the police as a woman who is twice her size was intimidating her, now.,being a larger lady i felt that she was also being discriminate towards my size. All in all I was discriminated against on 2 separate occasions in a short space of time and embarrassed in front of a shop full of people, as we walked away from the store i heard leah and another colleague named aisha laughing at me with customers. I went back and told her that i was going to report her and all she said was "do it" She then started on my daughter as we went back to speak to the other manager, leah threatened my daughter and barred her from the shop. This is unacceptable behaviour from a customer service manager and i have reported this incident to her head office and been promised that this will be internally investigated. I will be following up with the complaint as it is unhygienic to tell a disabled customer to pee on the floor in any situation never mind a food establishment. This person should not be working with the general public as she is rude and patronising.

Love these guys so much theyre always friendly and the place is clean and they make sure everyone is masked up and safe and I wish other places in carterton were like this. Quality.

Despite Costa itself being very overpriced (in my opinion - £3.70 for a Irish cream latte 😳 ) this is a nice addition to Carterton. Place is clean and staff are always very welcoming and friendly.

Just sent the kids down to have a Christmas treet for them to be told that if you are under 13 you are not allowed to sit inside unless you are accompanied by an adult which is fair enough but she didn't ask there age and was very rude about it upsetting their Christmas eve so I will be going elsewhere from now on and will be recommending other people to do the same

I ordered the Terry's Chocolate Orange Hot chocolate. I expected to receive a mini choc on top . As that's how it's advertised. I was dissapointed not to receive one . I feel the staff could be more friendly .

Try the cinnamon cappuccino, you won't regret it, (unless you don't like cinnamon, but then again, why would you order it if that was the case ;-) )just don't sweeten it!

Very clean, well staffed and friendly before and during covid-19 pandemic. Quick service and tasty drinks and snacks/food.

Managers rude. My disabled mother and I were blocking the way out walkway (we didn't notice this) and we were rudely told to 'Move out of peoples way, we can clearly see thats the way out' which.. we obviously could not.

I visited Costa with my clients from work on 31 august 2020. My colleague went in to order drinks and was told there were closing soon,they still had 25 minutes to go. We were outside drinking our coffee along with our disabled clients when barista mark came out at 5pm and rudely said I need your cups saucers and trays. He had no regard for the clients being disabled so therefore a bit slow in drinking. I said I was not going to rush them. Service and attitude were absolutely disgusting and they will not be having our custom again. Avoid at all costs

Loving going in for my almost daily tea, my husband is obsessed with their cappuccino but lately (even in this weather) he's getting their smoothies. Friendly staff, we go in and we don't even have to order anymore, they know what we order. Everything about Costa feels like home, you're allowed to enjoy yourself and I'm just glad they actually serve tea. I don't like coffee but I highly recommend the caramel cortado, I put in plenty of sweetener to sweeten the deal, that probably helped, my husband said it tasted like a cake 😉. The carrot cake is very nice, the cookies are amazing, the blueberry muffin was the best I've every had, so soft, moist and sweet, the cinnamon brioche bun is just the cinnamon swirl you deserve and a chocolate a caramel bun I had was a little dry on the outside but overall incredibly tasty. PS brownie is lovely and gooey and the millionaire's shortbread is messing but exactly as I remember from my childhood.

None of the high chairs in this place actually do up proporly meaning a baby could easily fall out ! Please get proper ones that do up!

Visited here this afternoon to try their festive range . We didnt even make it to getting a drink! Stood in the queue for 15 mins , there was two people on , one person making drinks and one serving and I have to say she was so rude to all the customers , she had major attitude and lacked basic customer service skills! She was more worried about how her hair and makeup looked to be honest. While we waited we was looking at cakes in cabinet, one had mould on it and the cookies had tiny flys on them , yak! The place itself needs a deep clean very dirty. After all the waiting etc.. we walked out and went to lynwood round the corner much better!!!👍

Three of us popped in for drinks after a Sunday morning run. The place was really busy but only 2 people on duty. They were doing their best to keep up with the orders but obviously struggling. This also meant that the place was a mess. The drinks were good but more staff desperately needed.

As a single thirtysomething who has no idea what's going on half the time, this incredibly busy and slow serving diner delivers on promises. Situated next to Mcolls off-licence and just on from Domino's take-out and Lloyds Pharmacy Burford Road, this eat-in or takeout diner offers Costas usual array of hot and soft drinks, and comes with a hot and room temperature foods chiller display. I used to use this place to relax when I'm stressed out of whack from music, and the music here is pleasant, down tempo fare. Surprisingly, although it's likely because I've been going to Costas in Oxford too for years ago, that I'm not as put off by the "mum magnate" - i.e a place for mother's to relax and unwind with their lovely children. But it does vary. The acoustics here are fantastic, and a tantrum goes a long way to turning most people off places like this. Give this healthy restaurant a try though, and you might be wanting to go again like I have been. For many years. The prices, it should be noted, fall in line well with ASDA and Morrison's more recently opened, corporate options.

It was filthy outside it needed sweeping up. Inside they were mopping the floor with no slip and trip sign out properly.

Visited this store for a business a meeting on the 2nd July 2019 at around 5pm.My thoughts are that they were very short staffed, however that’s not the customers fault.Amongst other customers I had to wait ages to be served, there were loads of tables left uncleared, generally a very unkempt Costa.As the store got quieter one of the members of staff started brushing the floor resulting in lots of dust in the air and could be clearly seen as the glorious sunlight beamed in on this wonderful establishment!! Certainly a disappointing visit and with it’s location in the Cotswolds I would have certainly expected a better service and experience.Unfortunately I returned again on Wednesday morning 3rd July 2019 for another meeting as the meeting had been pre booked at this venue, the Costa was cleaner but staff attitude was not good and again disappointing.

Love this place, the staff are efficient and friendly, even when new and untrained members are learning, the trained staff keep on top it all.Friendly environment and clean.I don’t even have to open my mouth before my drinks for myself and my partner are being made.If cheers were a coffee bar, Costa Carterton would be it.......Norm!!

Visited bank holiday Monday with some work friends for a coffee and a ham & cheese toastie. Was pretty shocked when the lady behind the till who had been handling cash and scraping a piece of "sleep" from her eye went on to handle our food without gloves or washing her hands. Thought Costa would have more food hygiene in place but obviously not. Dive.

Stayed in Carterton for a period of two months and used this often but with varying degrees of love for the experience! Staff are either rude and officious - Don't sit there, Don't move that ...You can't buy that or that without this.....or untrained and hopeless - overcharged twice, and tutted at for pointing it out, given wrong info and order totally forgotten anyway so had to keep going back to remind them.......that is after you queue up for either the entire length of your lunch hour or the entire time you allocated to relax and sip coffee with friends. No chance! Over priced sandwiches which arrive either luke warm and tepid or blasted within an inch of their life and burn your mouth hahaMy poor mother cannot stand so long to buy a coffee in that always unending queue and by doing so I missed the whole joy of sitting with our coffees together ...same with friends. Won't be bothering again I'm afraid.

Although this is not a genuine Costa and is franchise it’s good ! lovely staff great management! Nothing is too much trouble! most importantly- CLEAN! I hate dirty coffee shops- nice decor- sometimes feels like a crèche ( too many screaming kids) but you can’t help that it’s just part and parcel of these types of establishments - I just leave and come back if there’s a “mother and toddler group” mothers meeting in there ‍♀️ Nice food - a bit expensive for what it is but aren’t all coffee shops these days

Nice coffee if they remember to get your order right. The shop’s often full of kids running around or even whizzing around on scooters. The staff/parents do nothing to stop it.

Lovely large friendly Costa Cafe. Nice seating with lots of comfy seating. Great coffee served hot and also enjoyed a Wiltshire Ham and cheese toastie, delicious!

Great coffee and 5 star service but I was in absolute shock when I saw a clearly pregnant women smoking in your seating area outside, who then came into the coffee shop and turned out to be one of your members of staff. Considering you promote breastfeeding friendly shops, I think you should also be educating your staff on smoking while pregnant, absolutely shocking and frankly upsetting act for the poor vulnerable unborn baby.

The seating area is relatively clean, as you'd expect from a regularly rotating diner really. I only use the term diner because of the meals section, toasted or heated by the Barista staff. The sandwiches and tortillas are good, but the coffee of course is the truly great thing about this place. Recommended.
