We love The Fleece and lunch here is always a joy. We ordered the Wild Venison Loin and a vegan cottage pie. The Venison was gray and over cooked so we sent it back and it was replaced by a moist and succulent loin but it was 15 minutes apart so we ate seperately which was hugely disappointing. Our South African waitress was outstanding but she went off shift which left us searching for someone to pay the bill. We'd gone with the intention of using our £25 off 2025 voucher but we'd waited so long and eaten seperately that we skipped pudding which meant that we didn't qualify for the voucher which was disappointing. We love The Fleece but the past couple of times it's missed the mark....

It was my husband's birthday lunch with his grandchildren so I booked The Fleece to enjoy a lovely Saturday lunch for 4 adults and 2 children. We ordered a selection of starters which were very good but then things went downhill. We ordered two Braised Beef mains which looked like they'd been re-heated from a roast beef joint and covered in gravy. The meat was gray and tough to chew which was not acceptable when these two dishes alone were £45. We were not asked how the food was and didn't want to make a fuss because it was a birthday party. The children had burgers which were served with chips and, according the menu came with veggies, but actually came with cucumber batons which was a little strange. The pie and the sea bream were delicious so no complaints there. I bought along a birthday cake and candles which were organised and brought across to our table but the service in general was okay.

A very cosy environment and a busy atmosphere gave the Fleece a really nice buzz. There was some big tables in enjoying Xmas work meals and so we were advised that service may be a little slower but in fact everything went very smoothly. The staff were all very friendly and professional despite being busy All the food was delicious, the service excellent and the choice of 0% beer very good! Portions were decent, there were some nice ‘gastro’ touches like the crisp chicken skin accompanying the Chicken Schnitzel and the truffle mayo. And the Tiramisu was stunning! All in all, great food, friendly service and a cosy venue

I visited The Fleece in Witney, and my experience was so disheartening that I feel compelled to share it. I met up with a friend there one Saturday morning. We placed our order and chose a seat by the window, looking forward to a pleasant catch-up. However, about twenty minutes into our stay, a staff member approached us and asked us to vacate our seats within fifteen minutes, and that we could move to any other seats. Baffled we asked him why, he then said someone "very important" had made a reservation and that they have specifically requested those seats. This was around 10am, and the restaurant was far from crowded. There was no reservation notice on the table when we sat down. In about fifteen minutes, a second member of staff approached us again and insisted we move to another seat as the important guest had arrived. We left and went somewhere else. The way we were treated made us feel insignificant and unwelcome. We left feeling belittled and resolute never to return, and for as long as I remember this appalling incident, I will share my experience with others.

The 'events' team at the Fleece are completely incompetent. Ive organisned a Christmas meal for me and my work collegeus with Finley. Communication is slow, always takes days to respond. After paying the deposit to secure a day and time for our meal, a few days later i was told that I need to find another day. Why take my deposit with the agreed day and time and then tell me that I need to change this. I can't call the 'events' team and email service is slow If you are thinking about arranging to have a Christmas meal at the fleece in witney I would think again

I’ve been coming to the Fleece since around 2000 as I have their sister pubs in this area like the Bear and Ragged Staff and the Fishes, so I know the Peach set up well. Staff come and go, some better than others, some doing the bear minimum whilst others are good. There are many reasons why hospitality is viewed as it in this country and so it was a real pleasure to be served by Sally who has been at the Fleece since the Summer. Sally has a very friendly and helpful attitude, giving the strong impression that she likes what she does and takes pride in doing it well - much like hospitality in the US. It must be the first time in years that a waitress has checked that our table was stable and sorted that out immediately for us. The meal was good as usual and Sally made sure that we were looked after all the way through without being obtrusive at all. I don’t think that many pubs and restaurants in the UK realise what a huge difference properly good service makes to a customer. Being made to feel truly welcome should be part of the pleasure of eating out, and, after all we are paying customers. Not making eye contact and grunting certainly does not have the same effect. I’m not implying that the staff at the Fleece are of a poor standard (in general they are very good), just that when get the kind of service we had from Sally, you realise that here is a waitress that needs to be recognised and perhaps used as a model for staff training. While the actual bar was lively, and the food very good, the accommodation left a lot to be desired. The room was relatively clean. The entrance hallway was not clean and had torn carpet and a general air of neglect. There was a very strong smell of damp in the building, which permeated my close, and was very uncomfortable. Very fresh, great salads (always a good measure of a place!), super for light eats as well as bigger dishes. We had halloumi fries (delicious), crabcakes with courgette fries (also very nice), a baked camembert (very well presented and lovely too) then a combo of Jude ice creams and sticky toffee pudding - both great. Came here yesterday with friends for lunch. I've eaten here before. Staff very pleasant, polite and attentive. I ordered chicken schnitzel which was very good.. The soft green salad was unfortunately way too oily and you need to be a bit more generous with your fries. My husband and our friend had the steak pie which they said was very good but again, hardly any fries, not enough mash, or vegetables. These are grown hungry men not 12 year olds you're feeding. Our friends son had a burger which looked really underwhelming. My husband left feeling still hungry, we didn't have dessert because we had one waiting at home. The atmosphere is very pleasant , the staff are lovely, but please, you need to up your portion sizes. Potatoes don't cost much ! In the four or five times I've eaten here I've found it to be slightly hit and miss. It's not exactly cheap either which is fine, but I was a bit embarrassed my friends were still hungry afterwards. All in all, 6/10.

Took the day off and my wife and I booked lunch at The Fleece. Always had good service and high quality food at this restaurant, but sadly not this Friday lunchtime. Long delay in receiving our pre-starters, then one of our starters was forgotten and the other, a chicken and ham terrine, was delivered but too infused with lemon oil to taste the chicken and ham and was therefore sent back and taken off the bill. On a positive the mains which were Beef and Ale pies were very good. Did not enjoy our lunch experience on this occasion. Need to up their game as loyal customers will be lost!

I probably wouldn’t visit on a Friday during school holidays because the restaurant was very busy and loud. My friend is elderly and wears an hearing aid and the background noise interfered with her comfort. Waited around 45 minutes to be served, first 3 people served, then a few minute wait for the next two, then around a 5 minute wait for me (didn’t appear overly busy!). My salt beef brioche was appalling - a basic brioche burger bun containing 2 tiny slices of salt beef and one large piece of fat (you can’t put that on a bun by accident)…..oh yeah, and a lovely star anise too! All of this accompanied by some barely luke warm oven-like steak-cut chips! Very good service, good mains and puddings. My issue is the crab starter @£12.50. Living on theYorkshire coast at this price you would receive a crab shell full of meat with a side. Here at best it was three teaspoons of mainly mayo with what I assume was crab meat, 4 apple matchsticks, 4 slithers of salmon and a sprinkling of cucumber cubes. Brought the issue to staff and was assured that my main course would be more substantial(meat pie), not the reply i was expecting. Sent an email to Peach Pubs on how did we do site but had no response. Just took the edge off a reasonable meal, albeit chain food. Try Three Horseshoes in Witney as alternative

The turkey turned out to be a rolled joint, not slces of meat from an actual bird, overcooked and extremely dry. Could not eat it as it stuck in my throat. The Yorkshire puddings were good though although the roast potatoes were black. Not up to standard at all. The staff however were friendly and helpful. Won't be planning a return visit even though it is situated on the charming and picturesque Church Green.

We were staying locally and search Google to find this place - fantastic. Two great Real Ales (Timothy Taylor and Doom Bar) and tried them both. We ate in the Restsurant, but the Menu was the same. Great choice - two of us had the Pie 🥧 & two had the chicken supreme. Everything was delicious. The Staff were fantastic and made the evening even better 👏 👏👏👏
