Nice little pub, choice of 8 on draught. Came in just after 9 and the barman said they are closing soon. Nice log fire is always a win.

The ploughman's was very substantial, Fish pie not so. Staff pleasant. Pub old, with lots of history and lovely fire

Boasting hertitage from 1500AD, this place has a fireplace going 24x7 with some excellent tea and refreshments.

Has been closed for months and reopened with new management on 12th August 2024 I think. Not yet fully up and running but we had ham and mustard sandwiches sat outside served with chips and salad which was good and cost about £9. Nice old pub which has great potential. Will come back next year.

Classic Pub. Quiet Day, still beer ran out. Friendly staff. -1 star: it's a super easy task to check for and fix wobbly tables. That wonky top does not add to atmosphere but to annoyment.

We were standing in front of the restaurant and wanted to go out to eat when, contrary to the information on the Internet, it turned out that it was being renovated.

Only visited for drinks at a Sunday lunch time. The main area is quite dark and lacks atmosphere. It also has a rear restaurant type area that is brighter and a garden. To the right of the entrance is a small area with an open fire, this is a great area and over looks the main road. Unfortunately only really 3 seats in this area. Sat there when someone left and nice. Staff friendly and drink choices good. Very surprised it was so empty at 1230 on a Sunday

Got a lovely dinner here during our latest road trip. What a cosy place, we sat down next to the fire pit, my wife had the lamb stew and I had the beef burger. Highly recommended if you ever are in the area

Great food and a good pint. Cosy downstairs with open fire but upstairs with food was not as inviting.

We had some beers in a great atmosphere. In February and with the cold, a lit fireplace is appreciated. Spectacular treatment. I recommend it.

We planned our journey so we would end up in Burford and watch the football in the afternoon. After researching online and even driving past the day before where the pub advertised they showed Sky Sports, we walked into an empty pub with TV’s off and no football showing. We questioned why they weren’t showing it and they claimed that they don’t have Sky Sports anymore…I don’t know why you would continue to advertise it all over social media and signage outside if that was the case. Bitterly disappointed as this seemed to be the only place ‘claiming’ to show the football across the majority of the Cotswolds.

Awful pub. Advertises they show sky sports however on arrival none of the TV’s were on and we was told they aren’t playing it. Further to this they then told us they no longer have sky sports even though it’s very clearly advertised on the board outside. Horrible dark and dingy atmosphere also

Came to the mermaid tomite on Monday nite I chose the pie nite offer And OMG it is honestly the best beef pie I have ever eaten so rich in flavour with by looks of it homemade pastry with the veg etc it was so nice we will be back very soon for the pie nite 100% totally recommend the pies here best in burford,

Came in one night while staying in the travelodge before my flight out to Cyprus to watch the Newcastle v Liverpool game on New Year's Day. I had a steak, which was lovely, had a good chat with the lasses behind the bar (one was a Luton Fan), and a few regulars, I believe I couldn't fault anything the whole night was lovely quiet for a New Year's Day but that's all I was hoping for....I'd definitely visit again if I'm ever in Burford

Me and my family visited the mermaid on Wednesday nite last week we were sat upstairs which is really nice with the old beams and walls, and very homely, The service was excellent from the front of house throughout the duration, We ordered curry, fish platter. Pizza, and steak all which were cooked to perfection. When we finished we asked to see the chef and Shane I think it was, was so nice and attentive to us. We will be returning very soon. Thank you the mermaid for our lovely visit.

Was a bit of a disappointing experience. Where we were seated upstairs was cold. When our pizzas arrived, they were a burnt. Not bad enough that we felt we should send them back when they were placed in front of us, but bad enough that it kind of ruined the meal. They were out of stock of the first beer my husband tried ordering off their menu. The service was OK. Overall, we definitely wouldn't go back.

Classic warm stone Cotswold pub on the High Street. Excellent North Cotswold beer on tap when came, fire on and a friendly welcome. Recommend!

Fantastic cosy pub with great beer, a couple of roaring fires and incredibly friendly staff. They were very accommodating and the food was fantastic too. Very reasonable and exactly what we were looking for!! It’s also a great pub to take your dog and I couldn’t recommend it enough.

Disappointed-We were recommended The Mermaid Inn as my wife has a gluten free vegetarian diet and advertises a suitable soup dish. Having ordered drinks/food the drinks were served after which we were advised there was no GF soup available. Due to gastric issues my wife is unable to eat full meals and we advised the waitress of this. As a compromise the waitress spoke to the cook who advised she could have a GF roll with halloumi cheese and a side salad (without onion-for gastric reasons) for a reduced price and I had a chicken and bacon baguette ( A minced slurry). When served the salad contained onion! When paying the waitress insisted there was no price reduction and after discussion took £1 of the bill, which came to £23 !! 10% service charge!! The previous day we had homemade GF soup, served in a copper saucepan with GF bread, I had a doorstop of a sandwich, large slices of turkey. pork, stuffing and cranberry with drinks for £14 at Lucy's Tea Room in Stow-Highly recommended.

Lovely traditional pub in the heart of Burford. The pub itself is small but has a really nice atmosphere. The staff are attentive and knowledgeable. The pub offers a good range of food and also caters for vegetarians.

Delicious Monday night pie and pint.

It is a good pub to go for drinks, we didn’t enjoy the food, we ordered fish and chips and the pork ribs. I would recommend getting a table close to the fireplace as it is quite cold inside.

A really pleasant surprise as we just walked in for lunch without a plan. The staff were friendly and attentive and were able to cater for my gluten free and vegetarian diet with a separate menu with lots of choice. Lovely setting with the fire lit and Christmas trees sparkling. Really lovely. We will go back for sure.

Ordered their Mexican special on a Thursday night. No food for 45 minutes. When we asked how long or food was going to be, the waitress went off and never came back. Landlord was clearly drunk. We left without any food. And they still charged us for the drink we had whilst waiting for our nonexistent food. Absolutely rubbish place. Never going back there again.

The bar service is top notch, the ladies are very quick with your order and to serve big crowds. Quick to clean away plates and empty glasses. Food was good, quick and tasty.

Nice cosy old style pub downstairs with a nostalgic fire place - the real deal not electric ones... Nice friendly staff. We only had drinks so couldn't comment on food but saw many happy dinners 🙂 Worth a snug with warm tea or firey whisk on any cold night!

Lovely pub. Staff very friendly and helpful. The reason not 5 stars is because I ordered the bacon and goat cheese and red onion baguette But I got given the chicken bacon and mayonnaise. Was OK but not what I ordered. And the chips was amazing. I didn't say anything as staff were so friendly and didn't want to get anyone into trouble.

I popped in for a roast dinner today. Despite living locally, it’s the first time I have been in for Sunday dinner. I was so pleasantly surprised. Food was great, as was the staff. I was served by Beth. What a lovely young lady, a real credit to the business. I will definitely be going back. The food was absolutely delicious, perfectly cooked beef. Worth every penny. I highly recommend.

Very disappointing. A group of 5 of us booked at table here on a Sunday evening. We ordered our drinks and food with no issues. The main course was nice, however I had the chicken burger and chips, which came out on a very small plate. The chips were cheap oven chips. The burger was okay, but not at the standard you would expect for an expensive Cotswolds pub. Once our mains were cleared we were not offered any more drinks, or a desert menu until we went to ask at the bar. We were sat upstairs and so were forgotten about. We received desert menus to look at, but however had to go to the bar again to ask for our order to be taken. The staff were gathered at the bar and had again forgotten about us. A while after the deserts arrived. I had the Eton mess, which was awful. The meringue was cut into solid chunks and was covered in a berry sauce. There was no cream or fruit (Picture attached). My friend couldn’t even eat hers. Other friends had the apple crumble, which also proved cold and disappointing. Overall, our experience was not good and I would not recommend.

We ended up eating at The Mermaid Inn because the kitchens in the other 2 restaurants we went into beforehand were closed on a Monday night. We arrived earlyish for dinner and opted to sit in the Conservatory. Food was fresh and tasty. We were the only family in the Conservatory and whilst we were waiting for our dessert the fire extinguisher was removed and the door closed, a bit odd but we just laughed about it amongst ourselves.

Friendly, welcoming staff. Dog friendly. Easy place to just rock up at and get a table. Good food. Cracking roast potatoes. I would - and will - return.

We called in mid afternoon. Nice old fashioned feeling pub. Dog friendly. We had a yummy butty each - mine coronation chicken & hubbie had a fish butty. We had a portion of chips, the dog enjoyed them immensely. Pint of IPA & pint of Abbots were excellent. Just the right temperature. Definitely call back again if we are in the area.

Decent pub in a lovely town. Food was good, pie and a pint deal on a week day. Started with a delicious baked Camembert and baguette, followed by a tasty pie, followed up with a delicious apple pie and crumble. The only real thing that let the experience down was that it took around 2 and a half hours for the whole meal. Table service started well, then I think our server swapped shifts and it fell apart. Still a good meal just took a bloody long time 😂
