Proper old school pub with no fuss food options, great beers on tap and friendly staff. Had a lovely Sunday lunch with a group of 5 of us, the pub was packed but to be expected as it’s pretty tiny inside, we really loved that it hasn’t changed in years. It was quite cold out so they had the fire going inside which made it even cosier. The food is no nonsense, mostly classic pub grub, but not quite as good as expected. Sauces were a little sweet and portions were maybe a little mean. I’d say it’s actually a better pub for drinking and soaking up the atmosphere! The beer selection is the highlight for me, particularly the Wadsworth Swordfish ale, so good! (When booking, make sure you ask for a table in the room with the bar)

Beautiful pub, in a beautiful setting. We had booked in for Sunday lunch on my birthday, table of 5. We were a few minutes late thanks to being stuck behind a local bus, but we were welcomed in and shown to our table by the maitre'd who was the most welcoming. The Sunday lunch menu was more than generous enough, with all matter of items, but all of us went for the Sunday Roasts: 2 chicken supreme, 2 roast pork and topside of beef for myself. Well, the food is extremely well portioned, the Yorkshire puddings are amazing, the vegetables are seasonal, cooked to perfection, and more than enough of them. The beef, though, was out of this world. Flavoursome, tender, and there was so much of it!! You can tell when a kitchen uses the best local produce, and this place obviously does, as there was not much conversation when we were eating as we were all concentrating on our plates! And, as a lovely little touch, I was brought out a potion of sticky toffee pudding for my birthday, which was extremely kind. The only slight downside was the 'subtle lighting' in the bar area. It was a tad dark in there, so if unsteady when walking, please take your time when moving about. All in all, I was extremely impressed with The Falkland Arms, and when next in the area, will most definitely return.

We visited this pub for the first time this evening. I have never been to a village pub that felt so warm and welcoming!! We came for dinner with our 3 month old (Austin) he was getting a bit agitated, but as soon he went to the bar he calmed down, that was obviously the best place!! The staff and locals in there were so lovely chatting with us, making friends with Austin. The Sunday Roast was absolutely delicious!. genuinely one of the nicest we have had in a long time. I can thoroughly recommend the sticky toffee pudding! We will absolutely can't wait to go back!

Chicken and leek pie was really tasty as well as the accompanying mashedspud and veggies. The burger that my wife had was also full of flavour and texture. Good little find that only the locals know or so it seems!! And the staff were really friendly and helpful, even though they had already a had a really busy afternoon.

Had lunch here after a long walk whilst we were away for the weekend. We hadn't booked but they fitted us in. The food was lovely and staff were very attentive and funny. The food came out very quickly too and was very reasonably priced considering we had three courses and two drinks each. Good selection of drinks, there was even a beer / cider festival that weekend! The craft ciders were lovely! Overall would recommend. Lovely traditional country pub feel with excellent food and drink.

The Falkland Arms is like stepping into a postcard of the British countryside tucked away in the rolling hills of Chipping Norton, it’s the cozy cottage you never knew you needed. The rooms are snug (you might need to duck if you’re over 6 feet tall), but they’ve done a fantastic job keeping that old-world charm intact while making everything comfortable. But let’s be honest—the real star of the show is the bar and dining area. It’s warm, rustic, and just the place to unwind with a pint. The Sunday roast? It was okay, but the sticky toffee pudding? That’s where you’ll find yourself doing a happy dance. We had a lovely stay, and The Falkland Arms made for the perfect launchpad to explore the stunning Cotswolds. Whether you’re planning to stay the night or just popping by for a pint, it’s a great spot to soak up some classic British countryside vibes.

Pub in beautiful setting and with welcoming bar but first impressions were misleading. Tomato soup 'special of the day' was actually potato soup which on tasting was very starchy and lacked flavour. Special fishcakes of the day 'ginger and chilli ' tasted of neither and were potato rather than fish cakes. Hand cut chips were dry and burnt and h ad to be replaced. These problems lead to an unfavourable review although staff were pleasant

When I booked the meal for four people, I mentioned it was a celebration. To my dismay we were directed to a small table stuck in a corner “cheek by jowl” with another group when there were other tables empty. One of the chairs at that table was extremely uncomfortable and should be replaced. On request we were moved into another room and a much more pleasant position. The food on the whole was very good, although the baked camembert was heated to liquid and we had to tackle it with spoons. The service however was disappointing, having ordered sweets we were kept waiting a full 25 minutes for them to arrive. Surely it doesn’t take that long to dish up ice cream, a meringue tartlet and a brownie? The experience took the edge off what should have been a seamless celebration.

We did a lovely circular walk of four miles ending up at noon on a Sunday at the pub. All the tables bar two small ones were booked. During the 105 minutes we were there a stream of customers left disappointed and hungry as they were no seats available. Yet, by the time we left, a number of the tables were still empty as presumably they were booked for 2pm plus. Why didn't the pub offer these tables to the early customers on the proviso they left by 2pm say?

Being local we have been to the Falkland Arms on various occasions and came this time with visiting family members. My impression is one of changing chefs and a move towards standard fare being sold at higher-end prices. What we ate wasn't necessarily bad it just wasn't up to the price tag. Trading on the quaint Great Tew location might not dent the visiting tourist trade but it will certainly dent the locals' trade as there are plenty of great eating places we can take our guests to.

We booked a table for 6, and on arrival at the prescribed time we were met with an average to poor welcome, and showed to a small table in the corner with 6 settings squeezed around. We decided to decamp to the garden as we had a 2yr old in a pram and there was definitely not enough space for that. There was a big queue at the bar for drinks, and when we ordered food we were told it would take 45 mins and the all the food would come at the same time, no option for starters first. Then we found out the bangers and mash was off, after we tried to order is. We were 3 couples so we ordered and paid in 3 separate orders at the bar, but one after the other. One of our starters (halloumi fries) came very quickly, despite what we had been told, and then the other two took ages, and came when I was queueing up inside for a second round of drinks. When the mains eventually came the 2 people who had ordered the fish were disappointed to find a large amount of bones that had to be picked out; understandable for fish, but not ideal when hidden under batter. The last couple received their food so late the other 2 couples had almost finished. A nice setting let down but seemingly chaotic staff.

Menu limited and food when it came was not seasonal or obviously local - red cabbage, Savoy cabbage and roots on a very hot summers day. Starters ordinary and unexciting - prawns very overpriced at more than £2 a piece. Service poor - had to queue at bar and get own drinks and go and ask for the bill. Lots of lively drinkers and their dogs, the latter apparently welcome in the dining areas.

It is with great sadness that I have to give this great pub a negative review, but our dining experience (anniversary meal on top of it ) was a serious disappointment. We used to live in Oxfordshire & have been here more than a few times, always enjoyed. The pub itself & the patrons with their dogs make for a lovely atmosphere & Jess the friendly bar lady was lovely ( the same can’t be said for James, the sullen barman). It was the food which was most disappointing. We ordered mixed olives to have with our drinks, sorry no olives. I ordered duck breast with potatoes, turnips & green beans. The duck arrived soggy, the potatoes limp & soggy, the turnips soggy & the green beans boiled & tasteless. My wife ordered the lamb shank, which arrived roasted but with absolutely no taste & when we asked for mint sauce ( which is pretty normal one would think) we were told there was none. Most of both meals were left on the plates uneaten. Jess felt really bad, but nothing resulted. The bill came to £72 which included a ramekin of mixed nuts for £2.95 ! If you want a good pint, it’s a great pub, but I think they need a new chef.

Traditional country pub tucked away in a picturesque village. This is a very touristy area and the Falkland Arms has been a venue to go to for years. It has been done up and improved in recent years and the food is of very good quality, especially the lunchtime menu. The previous owners had not made many changes to the pub in years and it was beginning to look a bit tired and dated, although I had had many a good evening there as a student! Coming back it was sad to see the pipes gone, but change is inevitable and not all is bad. The menu was fairly standard, but well done and tasty with reasonable prices. Unfortunately there was a wedding party in as well and they were a bit rowdy, but that is what pubs are all about, not just 'Gatro Pubs'.

I visited this pub with a friend on Sunday 24th September and it was a throughly unpleasant experience. It appeared for all the world that at 8.15pm everybody in the the bar save for a couple were drunk, obnoxious and incredibly loud. It really was like something from the dark ages and I wouldnt be the least bit surprised if they were quaffing flagons of gin and crapping in the street. I can rember the place twenty years ago and it was lovely. I guess it goes to show what bad managment can achieve. I will never go there again and if you fancy a pleasent evening then I would suggest you follow my lead!

My friends and I used to use this pub regularly especially when SJ and Paul ran it, and it was fabulous. The food was always good and the Sunday night folk singing was legendary and a great excuse for locals and people from the surrounding villages to get together for a sing song. Since then it has never had quite the same atmosphere but the food has been consistently good and reliable. However, friends and I went last weekend and were disappointed with the food. The waitress who served us was lovely, however, the pub lacked atmosphere and the staff had not noted the request about seating which my friend had made when she booked the table. My friends both had mushroom starters and they were disappointed with the taste although my fish cakes were fine. One of friends then ordered the duck which he enjoyed but two of us ordered the steak pie which was not very inspiring - the meat was tough and there was not very much of it. The accompanying vegetables were also disappointing and the additional serving of veg that we ordered was meagre. There was nothing on the menu that tempted me to have a pudding although my friends both did and considered these to be fine. All in all the food was not as good as it used to be which is sad as this is a lovely pub and used to be one of our favourites. Although I would be reluctant to take anyone there for a meal I'd still be happy to take them there for a drink.

A pretty little Cotswold pub in a scenic village....should be perfect, but wasn't. The staff were very helpful and friendly, but The pub seemed to have half the menu 'unavailable' (probably being a brewery pub this stuff needs to be ordered in and not cooked onsite, vegetarian Lasagne for example), food was okay, but the Pasta dish had half the cream from the local dairy in it and portions gargantuan. Lots of smoking outside with the doors open, which was annoying as well. The staff member did allude to new management coming in, hopefully they will get their act together as it's a pretty pub with a good selection of beers, otherwise it was a bit off the mark.

He uses fresh locally resourced ingredients, combines them together in a way you cant find in other pubs with the same old boring menu. Small things make a big difference. We had the light bites - just splendid - Brie,Bacon and Redcurrant sandwich and Bream on bed of chick peas and tomatoes. Finally - this was the original Falklands - the islands are named after some maritime peer from the "big house".

The worst roast dinner, the gravy was bisto and the chief had poured it over the meal , the Yorkshire was mummified, the roast potatoes had not been seasoned and my husband had one that was raw in the middle, to top it all there was a very small, very loud old soak sat in the corner who wasn't asked to turn the volume down. We did complain and they offered us a free pudding which we declined. We will never go back.

Great old pub, lovely location, good range of real ales - what's not to like? Complacency that's what! When you have all the above ingredients and you are on the Cotswold tourist trail, then all you have to do is open the doors and the punters will come flocking in. But actually, why not go the extra mile and build a reputation? We dropped by for lunch to face indifferent service, a lack of organization and a very unimaginative lunch menu. It was a bit like being transported back to the 1970's! Come on Falkland Arms, you can do better than this. I'd like to come back but you really need to up your game. There's a lot of better options in the Cotswolds.

This is a lovely place to pop in for a pub lunch. Terrific food--fish, meat, and veg. Variety of taps. Friendly service. Kids welcome and will love it.

What seems like hundreds of mugs or ale steins hang from the rafters, the lighting is dim, and tables are cozy in this quaint thatched roof pub. My husband and I shared a delicious chicken liver pate as a starter, then he tried the duck breast with veggies for dinner and I chose sea bass with olives and grapes, potatoes, and mixed greens. A very enjoyable experience in this unique area.

This is a very lovely traditional pub and restaurant. The decoration and building is stunning. Good food, friendly waitresses. The sticky pudding with caramel sauce was very good but it was a large portion.

We arrived without a booking and although very busy found us a table very quickly. The young lady that served us was very polite and extremely efficient. The food was excellent, well prepared and presented.

I used to live near Great Tew and this was my local when it was a free house. I haven't been back for a while but went last Sunday lunchtime with a friend. We ordered a 'sharing' platter at I believe £12.95 but it was really only enough for one person and one item was missing as they had run out. 'I can't magic it' said the waitress, having taken my money in advance. That just isn't good enough. What they did provide was Ok but nothing more, and vastly over-priced. The beer didn't taste perfect either. Great Tew is worth a visit but there are far better pubs in the area.

The Falkland Arms has always been a favourite pub since it is situated in a beautiful Cotswold village (think "chocolate box", thatches and stone walls...). We booked for a family gathering hoping the food would be good since most of our family had travelled 2-3 hours to get there. We weren't disappointed. Ok, most of us had a roast dinner (chicken, lamb, beef or pork but plenty of other delights were available to tempt us), but so often at other establishments we've have had poor meat or lacklustre potatoes (even microwaved) but this was clearly not the case here. Everyone agreed that the Sunday dinner was one of the best they had had, with tasty gravy; good quality, perfectly cooked and rested meat; crispy roast potatoes; and proper Yorkshire pudding! Waitress attendance was excellent - quick, attentive but never intrusive. They coped with three small children, one latecomer and one Gluten intolerant guest with unflappable enthusiasm and professionalism. Highly recommend a visit to this beautiful village and pub if you are ever in the area.

The Falkland Arms is situated in the attractive Cotswold village of Great Tew, has a great beer garden and a good range of beer. It is well worth a visit if only to see the authentic interior with its narrow passageways, impressive collection of jugs and mugs hanging from the ceiling and cosy nooks and crannies. It also makes a delightful place to stop for a rest and refreshment if walking in the area. {There is a pleasant 5-mile circular walk through Little Tew and Great Tew that takes in country lanes, farm tracks and field paths). However, we were very disappointed when we decided to book a table in the restaurant for a Sunday evening meal. On arrival, we were shown to a table in the bar area, just inside the wide open front door, which meant that the smoke from the large gaggle of people congregating outside brought back dire memories of the days before the indoor smoking ban was introduced. Even when we moved to a table further into the bar area we were unable to escape the draught. In addition, the menu was incredibly limited and, of the only two options available for non meat-eaters, there was only one portion of fish and chips left. This just left the five bean chilli, which was rather uninspiring. To cap it all, the staff were off-hand and a customer standing at the bar with a large Rottweiler twice failed to keep it under control when it went for another, much smaller dog, creating an unnecessary and unwelcome disturbance.Needless to say, we would not recommend the Falkland Arms as a place to eat. Good food can be had, however, in pleasant surroundings, served by pleasant helpful staff at a pub called the Masons Arms, just a couple of miles away on the main Banbury to Chipping Norton road. A meal at the Masons Arms later in the week restored our faith in pub dining.

We wanted to find somewhere that was totally unique and we certainly found it. The food and serviced was excellent. After lunch we spent time walking around the village full of thatched cottages.

I went to The Lamb this evening for a beer and was very impressed. The atmosphere was quiet, with a local clientele, without tourists (except me), which made the experience even more authentic. The girl who served me was nice and kind, adding a personal touch to the service. The pub has a charm that reflects its history, and allowed me to have an authentic London pub experience. It's a shame I didn't try the cuisine, but I can say I left very satisfied. Advised!

Great clean accommodation, we stayed in the outdoor rooms which had a lovely cottage feel. The staff were lovely and you could see worked hard. The only negatives were the mattress was worn so we ended up with bad backs. Also breakfast items had run out on both days. We would have been happy either way just cereal and yoghurt.
