Coming into Costa in Whitstable was an absolute treat. We don't venture out very often but we decided that we would visit. The manager, I think her name was Adele, she is an absolute asset to the company. With care, a cheery disposition and a truly warm welcome, she is the definition of professionalism and warmth. Every customer she came into contact with had her undivided attention. The fortunate looking male that accompanied her, Tommy I think his name was, had the same disposition. What a great atmosphere to witness. The facilities were impeccable which cannot be said for some of the branches I have visited. Will DEFINITELY visit again and would like to thank such a lovely team for a truly astonishing experience.

I’ve visited this cafe several times recently - each time they’ve run out of basics - even half an hour after opening! Today they said they no longer did anything vegan -despite adverts on the wall showing vegan choices! The whole place has an air of closing down - and despite contacting Costa they didn’t bother to respond

Apparently it was my fault that my free hot drink from Friday was not used and I lost out on another free drink I wanted to save for another occasion. After sitting in the outside space we quietly left via the exit onto the street. As we passed the counter we were loudly told, so that the whole queue could hear, that dogs are not allowed in due to food hygiene. I was surprised as the employee in question had almost waist length hair loosely tied and tossed forwards over her shoulder. Not a welcome experience; there are plenty of other coffee outlets in Whitstable High Street.

I visited here as it was a really hot day and I thought I'd cool off. What wishful thinking that was. The air con was broke and as a result staff were in partial uniform. I ordered my drink but found this hard as the menu wasn't up on its usual display. Thankfully the lady helped - once she had finished talking about her weekend to her colleague. I went to the back where it would be a little quieter and it was but the tables were filthy. None of them had been cleared and one member of staff chose to walk past it all when she went out the back empty handed. I then used the toilet and it was revolting. I wouldn't like to go into details!

I have been going into this Costa for many years and the staff are absolutely lovely but the higher management are awful, the managers in store have been escalating the air conditioners since Christmas that never work and no one comes out to mend them, the fridge is not working and hasn’t been for weeks. These things keep breaking down continuously, whoever now runs Costa/Coca Cola ie the hierarchy should be embarrassed, it’s severely going downhill, I really don’t know how the poor managers put up with it. Awful company!!! I have even tried sending the higher management messages on social media but they don’t reply!!! It’s one of the worst organisations I have ever known in looking after their staff and looking after their stores!!!

This Opening times at this Costa have got later and later, so many people comment that they would like it to open earlier especially as it’s the Summer, opening times are 9.00, which is different to what it says on the Tripadvisor!, they are also saying they are short of staff, air con hasn’t been working since the winter, head office can’t be bothered as the poor manager is forever trying to get them to mend it, prices have now hiked up too £3.15 for a coffee😳. Severely gone down hill.

We were a group of friends out for a day out with a small handbag size dog. We entered admittedly not seeing the wordy lowly placed sign “…guide dogs only…”. After settling down a waitress very publicly asked is to leave raising her voice from across the counter. We apologised immediately and made plans for one person to leave with the dog while the rest could make orders. The waitress then proceeded to very publicly, repeatedly ask us to leave immediately, with unnecessarily impossible haste. Despite being apologetic, the public embarrassment, raising tone of voice and unreasonable haste and hostility was utterly unacceptable despite our mistake. Furthermore, the utter rudeness and crass of her yelling “ can you not read? ” while we left was further public humiliation, that no one deserves. ( we are all well read, educated adults from ethnic minorities) We were all forced to find patronage elsewhere due to her actions and utter inability to see vying customers . It was a shame we did not get her name for a formal complaint. We felt insulted and so very publicly shamed due to her insensitivity. I sincerely hope this treatment and public shaming is not repeated by other Costa staff.

They were a little busy & only had 1 member of staff making the orders & taking the payments & the queue was out the door so it did take a little wile for our drinks to be made. I only ever get frostinos, really, unless they have a new hot chocolate flavour. I recommend their Ruby Chocolate Frostino because it looks beautiful & is a less sweet kind of chocolate, so I find that it isn't too sugary.

We regularly get takeaway coffee early on a Sunday morning and this morning we arrived to find that the opening time had changed and we had to walk around for half an hour in the cold before we could get a coffee. It seems like a very bad business decision to make especially as things are opening up more after lockdown and the town will be flooded with people looking for early morning coffee and breakfast.

As a loyal regular customer, very disappointed today as they have changed their Sunday opening times which are not even on trip advisor, which is still showing as 7am!. Now opening at 9am instead of 8am on a Sunday and as Whitstable is a very busy seaside resort especially in the Summer months, this is the most ridiculous decision they have ever made, a lot of regular customers were moaning this morning. It is also very bad for Costas business and reputation as there are plenty of people up early at the weekends dog walkers, joggers and holiday people and it will just mean people taking their business elsewhere!! Not a good decision

Dropped in on a gloomy Tuesday for a coffee and a slice of cake, but were sadly 'greeted' by a most aggressive and power hungry member of staff who barked at us about masks before we even had one foot over the door. We are fully committed to Covid rules and take social distancing and masks seriously, but we do not appreciate being shouted at before we have even entered. That said, I am excempt from wearing a mask for medical reasons and have a card that I carry to show this. My partner however is fully prepared to wear a mask where needed and there was absolutely no need to be so aggressive to us before we had even entered. Whilst waiting in the queue to be served I moved half a cm and poked my head around the corner to check out the seating area (we didn't want to order and find that indoor seating wouldn't be possible) - again we were barked at about staying in line. When we approached the counter, we politely pointed out that we felt she had been rude and ostentatious torwards us in what is a difficult time for everyone and there was no need for it as we were all trying our best and have no problems with the rules. We were gobsmaked when she replied 'Well you don't have to stay here' Unbelievable. We wanted to stay because we wanted the tea and cake we'd just queued for! In my day you would apologise to the customer and put a smile on your face but hey ho. When she brought the drinks and cake to the table she practically threw them on the table in a huff and ignored us for the duration of our visit, not even saying Goodbye when we left. Utterly arrogant and rude. Will never, ever go back.

We'd had lunch earlier and having walked along the main street looking at the shops we needed a place to take the weight off our feet and a drink for our thirst. This outlet was fairly quiet and seems to have regular customers (we were tourists.) The service was prompt if little laid-back but it met our needs. After a while it started to fill up with other adults as well as some youngsters just out of school.OK for a coffee and a bite to eat, though our chocolate tiffins were starting to melt. I really do try to frequent independent coffee shops if possible, but despite there being many in Whitstable, none seem to have what it takes to tempt a visitor over the threshold. Hence I drew my Costa loyalty card and asked for "crumpets". Now here's the quirk......Costa venues don't advertise crumpets and nor do they display them, but ask....and they are stored out of sight and will be heated on demand! I asked for mine to be heated twice - I know how crumpets should be cooked - and they duly arrived at my table, expertly warmed & browned and with the requested accompanying butter & marmite. The service was excellent, the food was spot on and independent coffee shop owners, who just don't understand marketing, lost another £6.

We didn't go in for ages - 'why would anybody go into Costa when they have a choice of a dozen independent coffee shops?'. I've discovered why. A) they're the only people open in Whitstable before 8.30, which with a 16 month old is a godsend; b) they're relaxed and there's space for our toddler to play; c) the service is good and the coffee's better than average; but most importantly, d) the Whitstable Costa regulars are the friendliest, most delightful bunch of any coffee shop in the town (we've tried them all!). What let it down was the lack of someone clearing up, there were several tables outside and inside with dirty cups and plates left either on the table our on the window ledge. I didn't go upstairs so I'm not sure what that was like. I understand they were busy but they need at least one dedicated member of staff who is in charge of clearing up and keeping the table clean. We tried to use the wifi, but had no success. Three of us with three separate laptops and phones... couldn't manage this. On asking a member of staff, they too couldn't help although they were perfectly pleasant. But in reality, it feels like a station forecourt in some ways, too large a queue, too many untidy formica type tables, and little or no attention to interior design or elegance. It does the job on coffee, always; but Whitstable has far too many place that are magnificent to use this on too many occasions...[This would have been a three or four star for coffee, but the room was too messy and plastic in terms of design and food, to help it get more. Coffee is amazing, which is the point really. I don't rate the food but that's all Costa's. The granola bars are nice and the gingerbread muffin at Christmas is lovely. Unfortunately, or probably not for my waistline, the salted caramel is dry and no comparison for the rest of the year. It's pot luck whether the toilet is presentable. Also more often that not the tables need clearing and that's even when there is no queue. The only downside to the smoking ban is that venues mostly cater the outside areas for smokers now. It would be nice to be able to sit in the sun and enjoy my coffee too with out breathing someone else's second hand smoke. In this case it could be tarted up a bit as I'm not sure it's ever been swept and all the tables are sticky and covered in other outdoor debris. Oh and wobbly tables to boot.Perhaps it would be nice to make the area child friendly and erect a smoking shelter out by the bins. It would free up some room indoors. I presume more money is lost by the amount of parents with buggies that don't feel they can fit, or want to cause any unwanted attention squeezing in, than by someone needing a cigarette.

I just don't get why people go to this chain - they come to quirky, arty Whitstable and then go into Costa. I wanted to see what it was all about (to be fair on them), so decided to visit. IMO the tables looked liked they needed a good wipe, we had to take a table that hadn't been cleared and it took a while for this to happen. Coffee was on the bitter side - certainly didn't taste like it was freshly ground, or indeed fresh (which in my understanding is why you get the bitter taste).Whitstable has some lovely independent tea/coffee shops - so I'm sorry by my custom will be taken there in future - this Costa just doesn't come up to scratch and it's certainly not what the town is all about. So, I'm still confused as to why people go there!!

We three friends had spent an afternoon in the charming, quirky, arty town of Whitstable and decided to pop in for a coffee before travelling home.Despite arriving at the end of what was probably one of the sunniest and thus busiest days of Autumn for all retailers in this beautiful town, the blonde, pony-tailed barista was charming and attentive.Costa Coffee makes a delicious array of espresso-based coffees and we enjoyed a smooth latté, a tasty hot chocolate with whipped cream and an Americano. We shared two generous tiffin traybakes and sat and chatted within a very clean and comfortable coffee shop, whilst time flew by. It was only long after our drinks had been savoured that we realised we were the only customers there; the store had closed at 6 and we had been left to remain whilst the staff were cleaning and preparing for the following day's trade.Thank you for confirming our belief that Whitstable is a dream of a day out as everyone was so friendly and accommodating, the town a shopping haven and where we wish we could move to...just a shame that property prices are beyond our reach. ❤

Another branch of this dreadful, overpriced chain. /we have several very good, independent coffee shops in Whitsrtable we do not need or want places like this.

Warm welcome but it was clear that there were insufficient staff to handle the number of customers visiting during the holiday peak. Whilst the food and drinks supplied were to a high quality, the preparation areas looked very cluttered. The outdoor seating area has a pleasant decked flooring and large umbrellas. There needs to be greater focus on tidying up and clearing away the tables, difficult I know when staff resources are very limited.

The garden out the back is nice, although as it's small we were billowed with smoke from smokers, and all we wanted was to sit in the sun. The service was slower than most Costa shops, but I think we caught them at a bad moment, All staff were very apologetic that I waited more than 5 minutes between my partner's drink being made and my own.

As cost as go- this one is friendly and the service is fast. They always have a great selection of cakes. The layout of the actual store is slightly awkward and very narrow at points. So I've seen mothers with prams struggle sometimes and I'm sure wheelchair users would have similar issues.

Love costa coffee, as do I love this particular one in Whitstable.Staff are very friendly and chatty and their coffees are just as good as any other of their chains.Warm and cosy little place with a toilet accessible to the disabled and a small smoking area out the back with sun umbrellas. Not much else can be asked for.

As a local and a fairly frequent visitor to Costa I have never had a problem. I often go in early morning and the staff are friendly and very efficient. As with any establishment there are regulars and if there were any problems people just wouldn't go in. Customers "regular" orders are remembered and a lot of them are office workers buying their early morning take away to start their working day. I never pass Costa without seeing it busy and as there is more than enough choice for a coffee in Whitstable they must be doing something right!!

Surprised at adverse comments. The staff are very helpful and friendly. Coffees and food as good as any other Costa. We have been very impressed with the friendly regular clientele you can find here day after day, which speaks for itself. Good atmosphere. Although soap needs refilling in loos. Ha!

Although there are plenty of good coffee shops and better places to eat, these can be crowded and quality varies. If you want a decent drink in relative comfort Costa delivers a consistent quality of coffee. It could do with a little tidy up.

Writing as a Costa regular around England, this one is a disappointment. Service is often slow, somehow the drinks are never as good as Maidstone or even Folkestone. I've usually been with work colleagues and they refuse to use the toilets now. A disappointment.

Loud music playing, the young lady at the counter could not hear my order for it. She presumed I wanted take away which I didn't. Music obviously to the Barista's taste as he was whistling along to it.

As out of towners my wife and I popped into this branch of a well known coffee house for refreshment and to ask for the locals advice on which of the numerous fish and chip shops in the town was in their opinion the best. The staff were more than helptil and polite and were a credit to the company they work for. Would visit again based on the friendly welcome we received from the staff. Can take or leave the coffee though!

Sat out in the terrace with friends, most of the tables had not been cleared of dirty used cups, half eaten cakes and spills of chocolate on our table. The decking had not seen a brush for a while there were leaves on the floor that were a hazard when carrying our tray. The inside was not much better total lack of cleaning, no enthusiasm from staff to do anything about it, would say it was like a pig sty.Think Whitstable Costa need a big shake up otherwise they will certainly loose customers they have lost mine!!!!!!!!

Although this Costa has just had a refurbishment it looked tired, scruffy and dingy inside. The tea was weak, needing a long time to brew. The food was just OK. The background music was loud and tinny. The staff were a bit scruffy and I had to ask the girl for my change after she had shut the till!!!Not a good example for Costa and with the many coffee shops on offer in the town, its not surprising that there were plenty of places to sit at lunch Time. I think this branch needs a shake-up, not just a referb. Could do a lot better!!

This is the worst Costa I've visited. A few people were in there and tables were available. There was one person in front of me, the Manager came to the counter and asked what she wanted and she said she was being served. I was next in line and she didn't even acknowledge me and walked off so she had her back to me behind the counter. As I had spotted her "Manager" bag I knew I'd be on a hiding to nothing to say anything. She then made sure she faced the other way for a good few minutes while I was left staring at the back of her over-coiffed beehive hairdo. She did eventually deign to take my order. The barrista ummed and arrhhed about which of the two milk jugs to use and I suspect that neither had been washed that day, just reheating the same milk over and over again, sat there in the heat collecting bacteria. The coffee was 2 or 3 out of 5 instead of the usual 5/5 for Costa. Another member of staff (much more amenable) then came to clear the table of the previous customer's (or customers') crockery and rubbish. The upshot: don't go there unless you're desperate and like being ignored.

This must be the worst Costa or any other coffee shop I have ever visited. The staff need training in customer service and a course on how to greet customers. Having sat down the place is filthy, the tray it was served on was a disgrace the cup needed replacing. Pleased I had not ordered any eats? Very very disappointed .

Staff friendly enough but the barista served one of our coffee's as more froth & foam which meant it was only really half a cup [replaced it ok when asked]. The décor is tired and needs updating and the air con was 'knocking' which was sorted out by one of the staff giving it a whack. You might be disappointed if you're a fan of Costa's but if you only want a coffee you'll probably be alright.

I love the HUGE custard cream biscuits that Costa sells. During a lovely warm day at Whitstable, we decided to have a coffee and tea (and hopefully a giant biscuit) during the afternoon. The doorway was battered and dirty and uninviting. My partner queued for drinks and I chose a table in the window area. Looking around I noticed that the floor was filthy. The chairs and tables from tops to bases looked as though they hadn't been cleaned, well, ever. Dirty cups and plates from the previous customers were still piled on the tables. We had to clear those ourselves and no-one came to wipe the table. This has to be the worst kept Costa I have seen. I would say that the owner has absolutely no pride in his/her business. It was quite grim.

On the sad end of Costas. Tables dirty and not cleared, floor messy as well. Needs a big sort out and refurbishment. Flat whites were OK, as they are pretty standard across the chain. Only went in as we had 'free' coffees on our cards. Many far better coffee shops in Whitstable so I suggest giving this one a miss.

I was disappointed with the shop. After I had placed our order I experienced the usual embarrassment of my Scottish Bank Notes being refused. We drank our coffee and left quickly. Disappointed.

Have been in this shop a couple of times a week since thia store opened nearly four years ago. Have had lunches, breakfasts and countless meetings in here and the staff have always been fantastic. The problem is that this store has been so badly designed using clueless architects and even worse materials. The poor staff suffer as seemingly things break on a daily basis and have awful contractors who come and paper over a problem. Give this store a refurb! A big company with endless resources need to give this store what it needs. Its in a town that is ever growing in popularity and it will only become busier! Help these poor guys out as its your company youre hurting
