Charming old pub with very good food and friendly team. Situated in the heart of sandwich a short walk from everything. Proper pub food, fairly basic but wholesome and tasty
Liver and bacon was excellent my wife’s veggie option was good too
Nice beers too. Very welcoming and helpful team.and a good busy atmosphere without being too noisy
We had a delicious Sunday lunch at the White Horse. Very friendly staff. Idyllic location for a fantastic day out with well signposted walks, a beautiful church and a picturesque pond. Highly recommended.
We went to the George and Dragon as a family member ate there at Christmas and was impressed. Sadly we were disappointed. We were advised on the day that the restaurant was closed (due to lack of bookings and shortage of waiting staff) but we were happy to eat in the bar area. Tanya (manager) was very helpful but the food was average at best and not as described on the menu. Reheated veg and mash, overcooked chicken (and little of it) on the skewer and small pieces of meat in the pie. I am not sure this food was cooked by a qualified or experienced chef given its quality and presentation. Each dish was in the region of £18 (plus service charge) so nearly £20 which it was not worth. We understand that a new chef is starting soon so there may be an improvement but we are unlikely to try it again.
Our party of OGS revisited this lovely Free House Pub for a brilliant Lunch. Highly skilled Chefs producing wonderful Food, Good Beer and Drinks. Warm and cheerful Welcome from staff plus the local regular Gent seated at the Bar. Lovely view over the green cricket field at the front with out side seating and a large seating area at the back together and additional area for events. Ideal for Weddings or Bands etc. A must visit.
Went here for the first time last night and can't believe I've never been. The staff are so friendly and chatty with their customers singing happily whilst they cook. Doner meat is very tasty and reasonably priced! Will definitely go back
Nice views, shame about the garden…
The George & Dragon’s recent revamp delivers mixed results. Indoors, little has apparently changed, beyond a basic repaint and a few tweaks. Outside, clearing the trees has opened up beautiful views of Swallowfield, and the enlarged (if awkward) car park is a plus. The front landscaping looks nice but narrows the entrance for larger vehicles. Sadly, where greenery once complemented the countryside, the rear garden is now a bleak gravel area, lacking in character, with two unsightly gas tanks somewhat spoiling the view. Still, the pub retains its charm, offering excellent beers, good food, and some of the best views around.
Had a delicious vegetarian Sunday lunch here today for the first time. Excellent value for money - our food and drinks.
Greeted by friendly staff. Atmosphere upbeat - dog friendly and happy customers around us.
Food was served quickly, and was tasty and delicious. Generous portions.
Delightful service - checked quickly that we were happy with our meal. Our server was charming and smiley.
The food arrived 1hr and 30mins early, I asked the driver to return the food and cancel my order, the shop called to say the food would be cooked from fresh and sent at the correct time, it arrived 15mins early again.
The curry was cold to luke warm and the rice was cold, the naan bread was soggy as if it had been warmed in the microwave.
We order from there regularly until tonight, we had dreadful food and was lied to.
Really poor show this time, Chinese is my regular treat take away. Being my local shop I was glad to have a good quality well priced, takeaway on my parade.
Imagine my shock to come in to a newly reduced menu, my usual order was no longer an option. No worries lets Change it up a bit try something similar, but all I got was appalling quality this time round. Bland dry and colourless. Wasn't visually appealing, and had no flavour what so ever.
I'll never order from this service again. I'll sooner go further afield for the quality I used to get.
Beautiful friendly pub. Staff were polite and friendly. The most gorgeous food cooked to perfection. I always rate the Hunters Chicken as the real quality of the place and Southampton Arms yours was exceptional.
What a find, called in for dinner and had one of the best pies Ive ever had, full of steak and kidney and the pastry was delicious. The vegetables were perfectly cooked and included golden beetroot, which was a lovely addition. The lady (young lady) was super friendly and made us feel at home. They were having a pub quiz later in the evening and every table was reserved; just shows how popular and community minded the pub is.
