The George and Dragon in Horsham

We had our wedding meal there, 42 people with sit down pre ordered menu choices. Julie was fantastic, her organisation, suggestions and friendly approach was a pleasure to deal with. Julie and her team did a fantastic job on the day, food was great, service was great. All of our guests said what a lovely location, food and team. Going back this Sunday for a roast :)

An enjoyable evening in a traditional British Pub. The food was excellent and good value for money. While I didn't use the outdoor space it was well presented with lots of light as the evening progressed. I recommend that you sample the traditional atmosphere in this hidden jewel

We had a fantastic Sunday lunch at the George and Dragon. The food which we pre booked was excellent and came out piping hot! The staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome and all deserve a huge thank you including the chef! We were a large party of 15 including 4 babies and based on this experience will definitely be coming back.

I visited "The George and Dragon" as a pub serving food. I did not realise it was a hotel. I visited in a small party celebrating a birthday. We had a drink and Sunday lunch. I enjoyed my beer, but had to limit my drinking as I had a 30 minute drive home. This was not an issue. The service was quite good. The floor staff were very helpful and supportive. Later one or two new faces appeared. I missed any introduction and didn't know who they were or understand their role. The meal was okay. I enjoyed the vegetables. There was a choice of roast meats. I chose lamb. I would have preferred slightly more meat. It was overcooked, probably fine for many, but I hadn't been asked how I would have liked it. Anyway I enjoyed what I had been given and cleared my plate. It was a very pleasant afternoon. We were not rushed from the table. The prices seemed fairly standard for a pub lunch where you eat what you are given. They seemed to be under-resourced for the number of customers being catered for. They still deserve 4 stars. With planning and greater focus on detail, they have the potential to improve. The rest of the prompts given for this review relate to guests for a hotel.

We booked a table for four on Sunday including a dog, we requested a corner table in the bar. Arrived and the table was right next to the bar. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The food we saw being served to others looked delicious so we had high hopes. Sadly when the food arrived it was cold. Three roast dinners. The potatoes were hard, no gravy for the roasts. Vegetables all cold. One person in the party had the vegetarian ravioli- served cold swimming in olive oil. Sadly it was not fresh, clearly bought on mass. It looked like it had been thrown on the plate. Seven small squares for £19, nothing on it, no offer of Parmesan etc. What a shame, we won’t be returning. We live very close by and were hoping the George and Dragon would host our wedding reception hence trying it out today.

A bit out in the sticks, but the good was nice, and reasonably priced

A beautiful place, but we had an unfortunate experience when there was a power failure and they couldn’t serve food. Nevertheless, the staff were very considerate, kept us informed and looked after us as best they could with drinks and nibbles whilst they tried to get power back. It is how people perform in a crisis that should be recognised. Credit where credit is due. We look forward to returning soon when they have power!

After experiencing a disappointing double booking at another pub, The George & Dragon came to our rescue. They graciously accommodated us, serving delicious food and providing an exceptionally friendly and welcoming atmosphere. We'll definitely be returning and recommending The George & Dragon to our friends and family!

A group of 30 of us attended for Christmas lunch, a great meal, food was spot on, fantastic service. The staff were all so nice and accommodating considering the size of our group. Will be back for sure

Started with various starters, including the whitebait and the breadcrumbed brie. Then the mains. This has to be one of the best roasts we have had out for a long time. Son(13) and I shared the sirloin beer platter for 2, wife had the lamb roast and the younger kids had the turkey. Meat cooked just right, and good range of vegetables (including creamy cauliflower cheese). The staff were friendly and attentive and couldn't have been nicer. Great place.

Popped in for a Sunday roast and we were not disappointed. We had the roast beef sharing platter, which was perfect in every way! Somehow we managed to fit a desert in after the huge roast, both having a creme brûlée cheesecake. The service was brilliant and the food amazing! Fortunately we are local so will definitely become return customers. Huge thank you to the staff for the wonderful meal and service, 10/10 from us.

Came for a Sunday roast with some family visiting for the weekend. Have visited before and been disappointed but heard it was in new hands now. The barn has had a make over and looks fantastic, so much more atmosphere in there now. It was very busy so sounded very jolly and happy in there. We all had the roast platters and must say the food was delicious and the platters a real treat. They were stuffed with high quality meat, potatoes, vegetables, yorkshires and gravy; everyone commented on how good they were, and for a family of big eaters we struggled to finish. Worth noting you can also purchase meat from the pub, which is a brilliant touch as it really is good. The only let down was the service. The girls were very sweet but seemed a little out of their depth and were quite slow. We probably would have had more drinks but it took along time for drinks to come and it was hard to get anyone’s attention, also took a very long time to order. Nobody came to the table to check on us once food had arrived. Very minor in the grand scheme but a little frustrating when the food was so good.

Had an amazing Sunday roast today!

Had a work lunch for ten of us. Lovely atmosphere, friendly attentive staff. Delicious food served piping hot, will definitely be back and highly recommend.

A fabulous evening with great warmth and hospitality. The new owners (Sophie and Tim) are bringing the best of tradition and modernity with good food, fun, and a great atmosphere. Somewhere to keep coming back to, with the knowledge that you will always be welcomed as a friend.

First of all an absolutely magical setting (very festive) secondly the staff were soo attentive and lovely nothing was too much for them. Thirdly the food was out of this world.. we had starters a roast and pudding all of which were 10 stars! Highly recommend!!!

Hugely disappointing meal at this location. Food took at least 50 minutes and the end result was extremely poor. The lamb tasted as though it had been defrosted or ultimately a bad joint. A very poor result.

Birthday meal: The location is lovely in the hamlet of Dragons Green. Characteristic vintage pub with a new restaurant in the brilliant barn extension. It was the first time they were using the well decorated barn as a restaurant. The food we ate was the Sunday roasts. It was decent but there wasn’t enough food. They looked short staffed and the two waitresses were extremely busy. Our desserts took an hour to come, and considering they are pre-made and heated in the microwave for 20 seconds, it was far too long. We were served chocolate icecream with our sticky toffee pudding and the apple crumble was dumped on the plate upside down. When you’re paying £7 for dessert and £17 for dinner it’s quite expensive. I wouldn’t rush back, there are better alternatives.

A great revamp has been done on this place. Now serving delicious food from local producers. A friendly welcome and lots of space. Traditional pub one side , gastro food the other. Perfect

Visited today with family for a Sunday roast, very disappointing, table booked for 2.30, a bit of a wait to be shown to our table, 20 minutes before being asked what our drink choices were and 50 minutes before we were asked for our food order and that was after calling a member of staff over, we were then told that the roast beef was no longer available. Considering it wasn’t late in the day I was surprised one of the main menu items had run out. There was one other roast and a few other choices but after the long wait and poor service we cut our losses and left. Won’t go back in a hurry.

Four of us enjoyed a leisurely lunch. The pub was quiet and we were well looked after. The food we ordered was great and we thought good value. We phoned to say we were running a bit late and were told that wouldn't be a problem. And it wasn't!

Me and my Partner decided to host our wedding reception here. The pub and the surrounding area are beautiful. The function room out the back didn’t need much decorating as it is already lovely! The staff were really helpful and attentive! The food was lovely, we had the substantial canapés and the outside pizza oven was a hit. We had exclusive access of the function room, outside bar and seating area. We had a bouncy castle for the few kids and hired a DJ. We also hired the accommodation for ourselves and a few guests which was very reasonable, clean and comfy. We would 100% recommend!

A traditional and historic Pub out in the countryside very peaceful. Even though we only had drinks the staff were welcoming polite and efficient. A lovely tranquil place

Overall a pleasant lunch, given 4 stars rather than 5 aa I had to pay for food before sitting down as I was outside, which is fine, but charging a voluntary service charge on top before I have had the service I think is a bit cheeky, if I'm paying up front I don't expect to have to pay service charge then. Not a biggie but worth a thought. We had the chilli chicken, chips and calamari starters. Chilli chicken was delicious as we're the chips, calamari ok but a little undercooked. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. Setting is lovely.

Lovely food, pie mash and gravy and service from Anara. Great location. Would definitely come again for lunch. No complaints.

On the basis of a previous great experience at this place (see my comment of May 2023) we brought a friend we hadn’t seen for a long time here for dinner expecting, of course, a similar experience. We could not have made a bigger mistake. Happily the main course our Friend chose was OK but self and Wife chose the fish pie “pieces of smoked fish in a creamy white sauce topped off with fluffy mashed potato and melted cheese and long-stemmed broccoli” or similar- I don’t recall the exact description but notwithstanding the offering we received fell far short. The pieces of fish were tasteless and the “creamy white sauce” turned out to be watery white slush. The potato topping had the consistency of half dried concrete, the cheese was almost conspicuous by its absence and the broccoli was rock hard and uncuttable. All this was brought to the attention of a pleasant lady we took to be in charge of the place and to give her her due she made an adjustment to the bill, but unfortunately what we had planned to be a pleasant evening for our guest was ruined. Needless to say we did not risk having a pudding course. You will see the Title of my last write-up of the G and D and the Title of this one. No further comment needed.

Service dreadful!! We received our starter but no one came with our main order. One thing you never do in the hospitality business is totally forget about your customers!! Bar left unattended! Good service brings customers back! Obviously a lot of training is needed!! We definitely won’t be returning.

Loud mouth locals sitting at bar more important than customers 🙄 Disgusting service 😒 no main meal served 😤 when I approached the bar to see why! No one behind bar had to go look for someone! Only to be told oh we forget!!!!! Would you like your meal now REALLY!!! Like no way it's to late 😕 definitely a pub to avoid unless your a one of the above!

Went for Sunday lunch with my husband. We didn't book, but we're warmly welcomed and without fuss seated. We had the dog who was sldo welcomed with doggy treats. Overall, a great experience. I would happily recommend The George and Dragon.

Delightful pub with a friendly welcome. Good menu and delicious home cooked food. Worth finding this place - it’s a gem!

Had a great evening with a painting group

Very poor service. Just one cask ale available which was indifferent. The (young) barstaff announced that last orders were being served at 10.00 - only 20minutes after we had arrived! Ruined our evening but we did notice that drinks were being served to their friends sitting at the bar. No wonder Pubs are loosing customers - they don't deserve them if this how they are treated. I would avoid this pub if you are looking for a later evening drink. .

28th March 2024 "Lunch being a total disaster" Firstly this is an old pub with NO HEATING..... undoubtedly to save money!! The waitress delivered a small heater and apologised as the boiler wasn't consistent and having issues.....what a load of BOXXOXXX! A group of 4 left our small dining room....the gents toilet was warmer! Now to the 'main event' A fish pie advertised as white fish.... served in a white sauce, topped with mash potato and a cheddar cheese crust. Accompanied with broccoli and greens. What we received was a total mess and a disgrace for £17.00 plus. What we received was a miniscule amount of fish in NO sauce topped with cold mash potato with NO cheddar cheese. Cold greens and NO broccoli. A total and absolute disaster....we didn't pay for the fish pies and didn't have any lunch. Reading the marketing blurb, this hotel/restaurant caters for weddings......well what can one say, more l Oh! nearly forgot....the sign post giving direction took us in a totally different direction.......they can't even get the signpost right!! A DISASTER it would have been better visiting the McDonalds at the top of the road on the A24.

Nice pub with two log burners both not alight an outside temperature of 9 degrees felt like about 5 degrees inside when your just sitting there, and no other heating on We had one drink and escaped to the car heater for relief I just don't know how other people enjoyed their lunch wearing their overcoats It could have been such a pleasant experience like other country pubs with a friendly fire burning

Great Sunday roast, staff were excellent especially Maddie and Sarah. The location is great. Only down side which was not the staff fault, we went at 3.30 and by the end we were the only people in the restaurant so go earlier if you want more of an atmosphere.

Ventured back after a bad experience over a year ago. Greeted by a smiling & very helpful barmaid (Maddy) - there were other customers but place wasn’t overly busy - meant me & my friend could catch up in nice quiet surroundings, including lunch (very nice chicken snitzel - compliments to chef Stacey)

We had a lovely time at this pub. We spontaneously decided to go and have lunch with the family with the two dogs. I love that it was dog friendly and there were great veggie options too! My family loved their steak burgers. The sides were lovely too. I would also love to shout out Sarah who was a star - She was so helpful, hard working and a lovely person to chat to.
