The Crown Pub in Horsham

We’ve been coming to The Crown for years, and it’s always delivered. The staff are consistently great, and service is quick and friendly. Alan in particular keeps things moving behind the bar; efficient and easygoing, just what you want from a pub team. Really lovely guys

Waste of over £30+ Firstly we waited over 50 minutes for our food. Steak sandwich had about 4 pieces of steak in it and the mustard was horrible. The salad consisted of an entire bag of rocket. It didn’t contain the potatoes it was meant to come with and the chicken was dry. There also no dressing. Annoying when you have to spend over £30 for inedible food.

Came to the Crown at 16:00 today. No sign bar staff so I went to the toilet. Toilet door doesn't fit, let alone lock, but there's no lock on it anyway. Toilet paper on top of the dispenser, not it, but it doesn't look like it fits inside anyway. But, minor issue. Return to the bar. Barman chatting to someone on this side of the bar, maybe a mate or off duty staff? Ignores me until he finally decides to notice me. I ask for a pint and he decides not to move and continues his conversation. I left, obviously his mate was more important than me. Not paying nearly £6 a pint for that.

Popped in on bank holiday Monday and stayed longer than was planned as the atmosphere was friendly and lisa was great fun and chatty.

Decided to have a meal here Friday lunchtime. Hardly anyone in the pub so there was no atmosphere. Ordered fish and chips, sorry no fish. It’s a Friday and payday weekend and they have no fish 🤷‍♀️. So my husband had a chicken BLT. Well the bread was hard, it must have been cut and left out. Also they put cherry tomatoes in the sandwich not even cut. Very disappointing. The 3 cheese Mac and cheese was ok. Not a very big portion for the money though. Sorry but won’t be going back. I can make a better sandwich myself. Spent just over £25 on a very poor lunch.

We were kept waiting almost an hour for our food so got a refund and left hungry, kept asking how much longer they weren't truthful, very disappointed.

I booked a table for 10 people for my dad's 80th birthday lunch. They were very accommodating with allowing us to decorate the area to make it really special. The food was amazing and the staff were exceptional, the whole party had a fantastic time

We decided to do a last minute Valentine's evening. It was our first vist yo the Crown in Horsham. Shanon, the manager was very accommodating. It was a fantastic friendly atmosphere. Had a wonderful night and dinner at the Crown in Horsham. The Manager Shanon and the one other member of staff on the bar were very attentive offering good menu advice. We were a last minute valentines booking but made to feel very welcome. The food was good wholesome pub grub and couldn't fault what we had. The Crown manages to blend a traditional drinking pub with an eaterie and does it well. A great little venue which we will definitelyreturn too.

Staff is lovely, bouncer lovely. Drinks are cheap lovely ambience with cool music. and manager is cool. also love the quizzes and graham and shannon is lovely

Went here for a meal with my partner and kids. Food was lovely, very friendly atmosphere, quick service and the staff were all very quick and attentive.

Worst roast that I have been served up ever. The chef in the kitchen obviously needs some assistance as it was quite busy today.

We used to eat here regularly, but sad to say the last few visits have not been good, so we will not be going again. The menu is nowhere as good as it used to be, choices are much more limited, and a number of items are always unavailable despite being on the menu. On our most recent visit, it took three attempts to choose food due to dishes being unavailable. The service was slow, and they appeared to be short staffed. The food was cold when it finally arrived, not helped by the plates being cold too. We told the young lady who served us, she was very apologetic, and said the chef would cook us fresh meals, which when they finally came were still on cold plates and the food was only luke warm. Having been there just over an hour, we didn't complain again, we ate quickly and left. It's such a shame as this used to be a great place to eat.

Didn't have what we originally wanted. Changed to chicken, bacon etc sandwich. There was only two small pieces of bacon. I ordered the hallomi and sweet chilli jam flat bread. Order arrived. I started eating it to find no chilli jam or peppers in it. Questioned this with staff behind the bar. He asked in the kitchen and came and told me it was because they had run out of chilli jam, no explanation of why there was no peppers. If I had known I would have ordered something else! Overall very disappointed

This was a rare chance to get together with a few colleagues for a Christmas lunch. I’d booked well in advance just to ensure we’d get a table but the pub was almost empty, and sadly, lacking in atmosphere! The first thing I was told upon getting there was that it was a ‘reduced’ menu - which in essence meant there was pretty much nothing to choose from, not even a cheese toastie. When you’ve set yourself up for a traditional Christmas dinner, and end up with pie and mash, no, wait, to then be told they’ve also run out of mash so it’s pie and chips (which we then had to wait for about thirty further minutes for in what was essentially an empty pub) wasn’t exactly what was planned. Maybe a phone call or email may have been more appropriate beforehand to let us know that food was ‘a bit of a problem’ may have at least given us the opportunity to choose somewhere else. Overall, felt like a pub that just didn’t really care too much.

Actual hell hole! Booked and paid deposit for a christmas meal thing, they didn't use the deposit towards any food. Half the mains they didn't have turkey dinner, fish and chips etc. I just think couldn't be bothered. Kitchen closed at 7pm so couldn't get dessert. We booked for 6pm and they didn't tell us kitchen wad closed or would be closing wouldn't have eaten there otherwise! When I queried the deposit the guy behind the bar who was so rude said I wouldn't get my money back as we were late, bare in mind the only other people there were playing pool it was empty! Not surprised either, 2 of my group got there at the allocated time we chose, so actually we weren't late. Anyway the idiot behind the bar decided to refund it. The other guy did apologise after I outed how rude they were in there. It's probably the worse greene kind I've been too. Avoid it if you can and definately don't have food there, we ordered a scampi and chips, didn't even bring the peas out with it, got them after the main had been eaten. We were a group of 8, worse service ever. They could have made loads of money out of us if you didn't have idiots running it.

What a change in less than a week, came in with 8 friends for food and drinks, were asked to move table, even though we'd paid a deposit for the table reservation, when the food arrived it was cold, no cutlery, no condiments, avoid this venue

We paid a £40 deposit for 8 people, expecting a delicious festive meal based on the enticing menu. Unfortunately, everything that could go wrong did. Upon arrival, we ordered drinks and food, and about 20 minutes later, the barman informed us that they were out of turkey for the sandwich. Fine, no problem—I’ll go for the Christmas burger instead. But then, he came back and said, "Your group has ordered 4 burgers, but we only have 3 available." So, I reluctantly settled for a cheese toasty. Another 20 minutes passed, and the food started to arrive—if you can even call it food. My "cheese toasty" was nothing like the description on the menu. It was supposed to be a medley of mature Cheddar, Gouda, and Emmental, with béchamel sauce on toasted farmhouse bread. What I got was a sad, cold slice of basic Hovis bread with barely any cheese and an overwhelming amount of béchamel sauce, which made it soggy. The sandwich hadn’t even been grilled properly—it was cold before it even made it to the table. This monstrosity was nearly £8, and it came with a wilted side salad that had clearly been sitting out in the warmth for far too long. As if that wasn’t bad enough, my colleagues’ burgers were burnt to a crisp yet somehow still cold in the middle. The Karaage sticky chicken was slimy and unappetizing. To top it off, the water glasses had lipstick marks on them, the tables were filthy, and the toilets looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in ages. The bar staff did ask how everything was, but at that point, we just wanted to leave. Honestly, it wasn’t their fault—they were just doing their job. But the chefs and management need to seriously listen to the endless bad reviews. If you can’t make a proper toasty, then don’t offer one on the menu. And if you’re going to serve a festive menu, at least make sure you can follow through with it. This was a total disappointment, and I will never return. An embarrassment of a British pub.

Went for a dinner on a rainy Saturday at 6pm, having been new to the area, we made a booking just in case. When we went in and told the bar staff that we had made a booking, the 2 girls made a look at each other and quite frankly made me feel really uncomfortable and unwelcome, no eye contact or customer service whatsoever. The young man serving us was good. We then went to order and at 6pm on a Saturday, did not have fish and chips and the chicken meal - third time lucky with steak and Ale pie which was fine but nothing special. The seating is mostly reserved with nobody having occupied it while we were there, and I would have to agree with the other comments here the music is extremely loud, feels more like a nightclub than a friendly pub. I see now why the other pubs were fully booked and this was the only option available. Safe to say we won’t be coming here again anytime soon - the one star service for the gentleman who seemed mildly okay to be there and the girls servicing the bar vaping outside.

Stale beer, smelly toilets and the same bland uninspiring food they've shoehorned into all of their establishments. I don't really understand Greene kings plans these days. Make everything worse and charge more. Least there's a pool table.

This pub looked good from the outside, seating inside was comfortable but cold. We placed our order using the app. 45 mins later still no drinks or food. The table next to us was the same. They complained and the food arrived 15 mins later but they had to return a dish that was still frozen inside! We asked about our drinks only to be told the app wasn't working for drinks ( we had paid already on the app) They took our order and the drinks arrived 10 mins later. Still no food. After about an hour the food arrived...except for one order. We were told it would take another 15 mins. It eventually turned up when everyone else had finished theirs. But no chips. We were told they would be another 10 mins. When challenged the member of the bar staff was polite but defensive, passive aggresive he just said they were busy- looked half empty to us! 15 mins later all meals were eaten and still no chips. When they did arrive we asked to return them and get a refund. This was completed by a very helpful member of staff. We will not be returning.

Excellent town centre pub. Very good selection of drinks. Food menu excellent, wide range for all tastes. The 3 for £15 small plates are perfect for a snack lunch. Service is very efficient and friendly. Definite recommend for lunch.

Worst meal I have ever had at a green king pub And an atmosphere and service to match! Ordered at till server took part of our order then said that's..... I then replied that was the start of the order and went on to order food, I mentioned I had a discount code to which I got told by the young girl "just scan it" with attitude. We ordered our food and drinks and paid, the latte came out as a small coffee in small cup mostly throth little coffee, food followed steak small and chewy, service was appalling literally second we finished server a male in shirt reached before saying anything and cleared a plate then said I'm clearing your plates thanks, and very expensive for drinks £9.90 for double gin and lemonaid! Overall worst green king I have experienced and to which it used to be good when I went before 2 years ago. Rude service was the most part.

Went in the Crown due to the stout house closed for refurbishment. The problem with the Crown is the drinks are pricey.

We had just visited the Horsham museum and art gallery and needed to eat dinner before driving back to London. I had the macaroni cheese and hubby had the stake and ale pie,all delicious!

Came for a Sunday roast I have been a few times but today with the best it's been chicken was perfect and my Mrs enjoyed the beef. Wish I had taken a picture of the giant Yorkshire puddings

I had decided to have lunch in the Crown. It was very quite so I was able to secure myself a good table. I discovered why they were so quite, & when I went up to the bar to order I found out. They were out of nearly everything on the menu!!! The young lady behind the bar was very apologetic, but needless to say I left

My recent experience at The Crown was nothing short of appalling. I entered the premises expecting a pleasant evening but was met with an atmosphere tainted by incompetence and disregard for customer safety. Upon entering, I immediately noticed a staff member behind the bar who was clearly intoxicated. Not only was this individual visibly drunk, but their behaviour became increasingly erratic as the evening progressed. Despite this obvious red flag, the staff member continued to serve alcohol, demonstrating a blatant disregard for responsible service practices. As the night went on, the situation escalated when I, along with other patrons, became uncomfortable with the behaviour of this intoxicated staff member. Despite our concerns being brought to the attention of management, no action was taken to rectify the situation. Instead, I was shocked to find myself accused of being violent when all I was trying to do was express my discomfort with the unsafe environment. It is completely unacceptable for a business to prioritize the sale of alcohol over the safety and well-being of its customers. Not only was I left feeling disrespected and unsafe, but I also witnessed a blatant disregard for responsible service of alcohol laws. I urge potential patrons to think twice before patronizing The Crown. Until they address these serious issues and ensure the safety and well-being of their customers, I cannot in good conscience recommend this establishment to anyone.

Stopped for lunch and had a chicken burger with katsu curry sauce - it was great. And thanks to Blue Light discount the food was 20% off! The service was excellent.

Food awful had to return steak. Some food was incorrect i.e order chips get mash, order mushy peas and get garden peas. Veg nearer raw than al dente and cold. Mac and cheese looked like vomit. Very noisy due to rugby being on. Staff friendly enough. Will never be going back.

OMG ... the BEST place in the centre of Horsham to get a delicious home-cooked meal and decent priced drink. The bar was well stocked (almost too much choice!!). Everywhere I went was spotlessly clean and you could tell that there is a lot of pride taken in all areas of The Crown, including how much the staff clearly value this historic building. We had Donna serving us our lunch today and she went above and beyond to ensure my steak was cooked to my taste. I'm a bit of a fussy one and like my steak to be very VERY well done (cremated!), which I've found a lot of chefs won't do for me and they generally produce my steak how THEY would like to cook it, not how I want it cooked. Not at The Crown ... I was asked to confirm how I wanted my steak cooked a couple of times by Donna and then Ty (I asked for the Chef's name) came up trumps ... cooking the most delicious steak, cooked just how I'd asked, and the Salsa Verde on top was to die for. Really wish I'd asked for the recipe but I expect it's a closely guarded secret! But there's always next time to ask, as there will DEFINITELY be a next time very soon. Thank you Donna and Ty for such a wonderful lunch. We'll be back for more of your wonderful service and your delicious food very, very soon. Only problem is, if my chair is as comfy next time as it was today, then I won't want to leave! Thank you all again.

Amazing food, staff attentive and friendly

Ordered a bacon and cheese burger took over 30 minutes to arrive during a quiet period and forgot the bacon.

A Great Pub! The staff are always super friendly and accommodating. The pub is always clean and feels welcoming. Would 100% recommend if you're in the area.
