Although the food was nice, it appeared that there was only one competent waitress managing everything out front. Another staff member seemed to be struggling, and I noticed her eating someone else's leftovers while cleaning the table, which took a long time as we waited to order our drinks. The food is quite expensive. Do I think it's worth it? No. However, with some improvements to the front-of-house service, I believe it could justify the prices better. Also, please be aware that the car park is in poor condition, with several large potholes—be careful with your car.

The Southampton Arms – A Perfect Ending to Our Culinary Journey in Southampton It seems we truly saved the best for last! Our meal at The Southampton Arms was hands down the highlight of our visit to Southampton, and we couldn’t have asked for a better Sunday brunch experience. This place offers some of the best homestyle cooking around, and after a week, it was a joy to finally see a generous serving of fresh veggies on my plate. The food here is fresh, delicious, and served piping hot, just like a good homestyle meal should be. Although we didn’t realize we needed a reservation, Martina, who runs this charming establishment, made sure we got a table and the chance to enjoy her incredible food. We kicked off our brunch with a refreshing Moretti beer and a beautifully smoked mackerel starter. Next came the star of the show: a trio of roasts featuring pork, lamb, and beef, all accompanied by an assortment of veggies and creamy mashed carrots. And just when we thought it couldn't get any better, we were served an outstanding beef pie with a side of veggies and mashed potatoes. For anyone who loves authentic, hearty, and simply delicious food, I wholeheartedly recommend The Southampton Arms. It’s a must-visit for real food lovers!

Had a stop over locally and needed to find somewhere to eat. This & another was near to us and had 4* reviews. We tried the first one but was not impressed with menu so made our way to the next. Arrived in the pouring rain, at the bottom of a long road to find a pub with car park full of pot holes. Not put off, we went in and spoke with very friendly & happy barman. We were seated in the busy restaurant area on their last empty table, offered drinks and the menu, which was your usual pub food, with some nice "small plate" additions, plus a specials menu, of which half was sold out. We choose scampi & chips and a gammon & chips from the main, and ordered drinks. Table was clean and not tacky like some pub restaurant tables and cutlery all clean. Condiments already set up. Drinks arrived in good time. Seating was comfortable. The clientele was mixed and the pub had a nice comfortable feel about with background music. A well presented, polite, cheery waitress served our table for the rest of the evening. Our food arrived, hot, well cooked and huge portions. More than we could actually eat. Nice wedge of lemon and tartare sauce for the scampi meal, plus pineapple (you can have an egg if preferred) to compliment the very juicy gammon meal. The chips were chunky with hot soft potato inside & crsipy on the outside. The prices for food are higher than the usual pub chain admittedly, but this is not a pub chain restaurant, our bill including drinks for 2 was £47. Our meal was delicious and we left, full up content and would happily recommend this local pub restaurant to others.

If you’re staying at the Hilton Utilita/Ageas Bowl, look north further for an authentic British pub experience nearby. Set in a former house, inside and out provided an idyllic atmosphere. Food was extraordinarily delicious, with many options for both adults and children. Huge portions did not disappoint. Helpful and friendly staff, with food and beverage suggestions were very accommodating of our tired (we just arrived after a red eye crossing the pond) family. The beef pie was filled with succulent and hearty chunks of meat, the omelet fluffy and filling, and the fish cake to start - you could tell it and everything else was freshly made by a genius in the kitchen. What better way to end our meal than toffee pudding with custard, warm and steaming it was a great finish. Best way to start your pre-cruise vacation out of Southampton.

Visited Southampton Arms last night and the food was excellent. We were a party of 11 and everyone enjoyed their meal. My only complaint was that the menu on your web site was not up to date and you have obviously put up your prices. I had worked out what everyone's meal would cost ( including the 10% service charge) but when we went to pay we were charged more. I took the prices from the Southampton Arms Menu so I think you need to update this. Other than that we had a very enjoyable evening.

My daughter in law has really been through the mill lately and has then been very ill with Bells Palsy which has left her paralyzed down one side of her beautiful face and her eye won’t close. She understandably is devastated and has not been out since but being bank holiday decided to venture out with close friends and all their children for lunch in the garden. The Landlady accused her of taking drugs in her pub, even pointing at her face. They explained about her Bells Palsy buy she refused to listen and asked them all to leave. I cannot believe in this day and age a person in this profession can be so cruel and insensitive, surely there is a law that her behaviour goes against? Incidently my daughter in law doesn’t even drink, let alone do drugs and will remain housebound for fear of getting ridiculed further in public by any other ignorant person. I’m ashamed for you Landlady. And all infront of the children!

I went to this pub with my friend who has Bell's palsy, and we were appalled by the treatment we received from the rude landlady. Despite explaining my friend's condition, the landlady accused her of being on drugs, because of her paralysed face which was incredibly insensitive and unfair. If only I could leave a 0. We attended my grandmothers funeral on Friday (just gone) and this venue was the closet place to hold the wake. Unfortunately when we turned up, we found Mother’s day celebrations all over the section in the pub where the wake was being held. When we walked in we first thought we got the wrong section in the pub but no, after speaking with the staff this was correct. The young man we spoke to behind the bar seemed quite embarrassed and could see this was completely inappropriate but the owner was appalling. He was lovely. Thank you whoever you were. Her response was that she didn’t know it was quote “a female wake” then when we asked for the decorations to be taken down it was “well will you put them back up”. Seriously. It’s a wake. Someone has just died and my family paid for the food and services (it wasn’t a freebie) so what’s with the distastefulness and damn right rudeness!? It was so out of line. You had balloons and banners saying “happy Mother’s Day”. You knew there was a wake!! We booked it and paid per person. Why didn’t you wait until after the wake on Friday? Mother’s Day is today… my dad thought it was a joke! And your response was what did it. You could have easily just said “I’m really sorry, don’t worry we made a mistake and we’ll take it down” - done. But you wanted an argument and then asked me to put them back up. If this is how you treat customers, then you shouldn’t be in business. You are so rude and thankfully we never have to come back. I just wanted to leave a review as a warning to any other people thinking of holding a wake here. Hold onto your money and go to a venue where they actually care. This one is just after your money! You were really rude to me. Thanks for that. The young lad took 10% off the bill which was a gesture, but wasn’t needed if she wasn’t so rude! Maybe delegate to him and your business might do better ☺️😝

We stayed in the Holiday Inn Express pre cruise and made the effort to walk here and it was well worth it. We had a drink in the afternoon when we looked at the menu and after exploring other options in the area telephoned them to make a booking. Staff could not have been more accommodating. I had enjoyed a particular glass of wine in the afternoon and asked if they sold it by the bottle. The lady said she would ask the bar person which it was and make sure a bottle was available. When we arrived it was ready in an ice-bucket on our table which was a really nice touch. It is not an overly extensive menu but is varied and does not lack choice. The quality of the food is excellent and the portions generous too. We had no room for puddings after 2 courses so took our bottle of wine into the bar to finish off a very enjoyable evening.

Went for some food and a drink here for the 1st time. We both had the lasagne and couldn't fault anything. Chunky Chips perfectly cooked, great side salad with dressing and a beautiful lasagne, even got a piece of garlic bread thrown in. I asked for tartar sauce for my chips, but food was so well seasoned I used nothing, not even salt which has never happened. Will 100% be back and also recommend.

A good solid pub that serves food and has good ambience. I was very grateful to them because it was 1030pm on a Tuesday and they still served me unlike a pub down the road that had already closed. Nice friendly young team. Next time I will come back earlier and try the food.

We have just got home after a great meal at the King Rufus, the food was fantastic and the service, was good, we were served by quite a few of the staff who were on duty and they were all very professional. Looking forward to our next visit for either Breakfast or Dinner. Louisa

We had a friends/family night at the Fox, there was over 100 of us, Food buffet style. Well presented, very tasty curry and chilli, pizza option with fries, plus trimmings. The staff worked tireless, I would and my guests recommend the pub. It's been down on its luck but with new manageress and great chef additions recently, can be the place to visit. Thanks and good luck all.
