The Fox and Hounds in Eastleigh

We had a friends/family night at the Fox, there was over 100 of us, Food buffet style. Well presented, very tasty curry and chilli, pizza option with fries, plus trimmings. The staff worked tireless, I would and my guests recommend the pub. It's been down on its luck but with new manageress and great chef additions recently, can be the place to visit. Thanks and good luck all.

Went for the quiz on a Wednesday night. Good fresh decor, good selection of drinks and a nice spacious conservatory area. Kids playground and plenty of parking.

What a shame... From the reopening evening when service was slow but pleasant with nice food to now a long wait, rude staff, less than great food and ridiculously over priced drinks. At over £6 for a beer that is only £4.50 half a mile down to the road to half a pint of coke costing me £4. This place has quickly soured for me. Good bye! Time to frequent a different local pub where they actually appreciate having a customer.

Visited for the first (and last) time as the usual quiz we do was not on. As a new team to this quiz it was a bit of a shambles, quiz master did not explain the rounds and was difficult to hear. Music round was poor in that there were only a few seconds between tracks so no time to think before next track was played. Final straw was the jackpot question which we got correct yet because our sheet was not selected supposedly "at random" by the quiz master lost out and for us casting the integrity of the quiz into doubt. Will not be returning.

Visited for a meal and quiz with friends. We arrived at 6.45, ordered food at 7, were told there was an hour's wait for the food. At 8.15 we went to ask if our food was coming and were told our order had been forgotten and the kitchen was now closed. We were given some free snacks and drinks but overall it was disappointing. Might give it one more chance but it doesn't seem a great start for new owners

Lovely little pub! Recently taken over by new owners and not had a bad meal or visit since!! Food is freshly prepared every time we’ve been and always very tasty. Friendly staff as well.

Been a couple times, 18 of us had great burgers and beer and as a couple, 2 meals off the special board. Very nice.

After giving a good review last month, we visited again, as a small child in our party likes to run around the garden. Very disappointed this time. A queue at the bar, with only 2 serving, one young one who had no idea what she was doing. One handle ale was turned off , and when the other "Theakston Best" was requested, the other barmaid didn't know if it was on or not. A pint of "Stella " shandy £6.50 , you gotta be joking!!!! Upon returning to the bar for a second round, things did not improve. Only the young one was present and we waited for a while, there were now 4 people waiting to be served. The older barmaid came in from the garden carrying dirty plates and glasses, and I thought she would drop them off in the kitchen and come to the bar and help ???? No !! she came out with a box of crisps and restocked the shelf behind the bar, grumbled to herself and disappeared again ! As my drinks were half way being poured, a chef ( I assume ) stuck his head out of the kitchen and asked for 2 orange juices from the young one. She almost thought about pausing my order and dealing with him, until she saw the look on my face and decided against that. Although a fair few people were outside on a sunny afternoon, I did expect some diners to be in the restaurant, however, people have realised that there is a shortage of trained staff here and gone elsewhere, the place was deserted. Overpriced drinks and poor customer service? Not looking good for the future !

No BACON No BURGERS No MAYONNAISE No STEAK No EGGS All were out of stock. After reporting out drinks and forgetting our water they brought our food out later and we were disappointed to say the least. They didn’t bring the cutlery out without warning and the hummus was powdery with no taste worse than Asda smart price and the pitta was stale and dry tasting and the service was poor serving the wrong meal and taking a while to bring out the right food with no staff working. Will NOT be returning!

Table booked for 5:30 and were told no pies left then after ordering ribeye we were then told that there was only 1 left. Then we were told there were none left! Fish and chips were not very nice. No manager available to take accountability for the poor service. First visit so will not be returning.

Great atmosphere with a nice relaxed feel. Everyone is friendly and had a good laugh with all the staff.

UNDER New Management. Old website doesn't work and email not working. New Management is great. Good food well cooked. Reasonable price with a great glass of Inche's cider. Will return again. Not far from Marwell Zoo.

Just returned from our first visit after experiencing a lunch and the food was superb. The atmosphere very friendly and lovely surroundings. Will definitely be returning to sample more of the varied menu as it was hard to choose. Highly recommend 👌

Went in for a late lunch today, the food was amazing, the best steak we have had for a very long time, well done chef. The management team were so welcoming and friendly, will definitely be returning to try out the rest of the menu 😋

First time in a long time and it looks like it's changed hands.looks clean and tidy and the customer service was very good.menu looks good we only had sandwiches but was good.

Grand Opening evening today (19.4.2024) lovely canapés, live music good atmosphere. No food is available today, but the restaurant will be open from the following day. Menu was available to browse.

Had a lovely meal today, to celebrate our neighbours' 80th birthday There were 14 of us altogether, which included 3 children - everyone enjoyed their meals - the staff were very friendly and very helpful - quality food and great value - thank you all

Advertised as gastro pub. 3pm on Sunday there was not a single person eating, when we walked in. No one to greet and sit. Barman not bothered. Few locals having a drink. Not much of a gastro pub then. Wasted journey.

Just drove here for lunch... 1.50pm but kitchen shuts at 2pm! so wouldn't cater for us. 2 other couples were outside too. Don't be late! Shame looked good especially at half term! Alot of lost trade I'd imagine! Edit.. We have just ended up in fishers pond just down the road! Review to follow...

A hidden gem really, decent old school pub with good food & a very clean place.

So my honest review of the fox and hounds: We arrived and got shown to our table. Bar person was fine and service overall was good. But we waited 30+ minutes for our food on the world’s most sticky table. I ordered steak pie (ok)—my wife ordered a burger (which was also ok) but had cold cheap chips and coleslaw wasn’t fresh. Both of my kids had terrible pasta-cold and the world’s worst sauce . We believe it was made from mayo with vinegar and ketchup as tomato pasta source(disgusting) All in all-food terrible service good but food takes forever to arrive. We ended up eating a Tesco meal deal that was cheaper and tastier. Gutted to have spent £40 in this pub when Tesco is just down the road .

Visited to see a band had a very enjoyable evening.

My opinion on the food at the fox & hound - So we opted for the roast dinner and my kids had sausage and mash. I ordered turkey. Which after waiting for around 45+ mins for, they decided to tell me they didn’t have turkey so I had beef. The food finally arrived, my daughters “sausage and mash” in my opinion was imitation mash and possibly was microwaved as the centre was magma hot and outside was cold and that’s why they wouldn’t eat any of it. Shortly after Our “roast” dinners arrived. I think there would be more flavour in a tin of corned beef and if you like frozen stuffing balls and Yorkshire puddings then your be okay. I’m pretty sure the vegetables were chopped and then chucked on the plate raw. they must of been out of bisto or something as the gravy was practically see-through and was the consistency of cooking oil. Last but definitely not least the tables were better seasoned than the roast potatoes. All in all just going to McDonald’s.

A bit disappointed that there was no table service in the restaurant area but the bar staff were helpful and friendly. The food was very good and there was plenty of it (the Fox and Hounds burger was excellent). The food was very well priced but the restaurant area which is a conservatory was quite cold.

On a bank holiday they run out of eggs,lasagne,and other items. Was not offered a refund due to my gammon was not cooked through?

Unexpected lunch catch up and was fabulous sandwich chips and salad no time for pictures. Garlic mushrooms yum. The toilets were spotless and the bar was fresh and cool.

One of the best places that we are have dinner.The burgers are amazingly tasty and big and well cooked.The dessert were incredible too.And the staff was absolutely nice and helpful.We will come back one day,I’m sure.

Arrived this afternoon for a bank holiday lunch. Have been before and sat down whilst my husband ordered the meals. 3 things on the special board were sold out so settled on chili and gammon steak for my husband. Gammon order was taken which included 2 eggs. A few minutes later the young girl came over saying that they had run out of eggs and would he have onion rings instead. Several other people had things put on their plates eg red cabbage replaced with peas. The meal arrived and discovered that the gammon was not cooked in the middle. We were offered no refund or free drinks as an apology. Staff didn't have a positive attitude to their failures or how to correct the mistake. We will never visit again

The last 2 occasions, I've visited The Fox & Hounds. The 🍺 beer has been off. Doom Bar tasted sour and had a strange fiz, so next visit, I tried the London Pride, which wasn't great. Was told by one of the regulars that most people drink larger, so the other beers might be old.

Recently went for a meal with Family, The service was fantastic, The girls on Sunday evening really went above and beyond for us. the food was lovely too the Pork Belly was beautiful and cooked to perfection, will definitely be returning

Just popped in for a drink and looked at the menu. We had lunch and it was very nice and we both enjoyed it. Definitely go back again. Have recommended The Fox and Hounds to friends.

Service initially was good and a good drink served but all changed when a member of staff was not very helpful and didn’t seem to care about are needs such a shame the staff don’t care about there jobs or the owner didn’t seem to care at all

Popped in for a quick drink and dinner. Lovely warm welcome and a very friendly place. We had steak with salad and mixed grill. Great food beautifully presented and at a good price. This is a great little place

Good size portions. We had the lasagne. It was tasty. They serve Jack Rabbit wines. Great merlot and sav blanc!

Bar man didn't know the difference between ginger ale and ginger beer.

My friends had booked a table for an early evening meal for the 3 of us after my journey from the West Mids. Upon arrival at the appointed time we were told that the kitchen had closed. Not helped by being surrounded by others eating their FOOD! We left without staying for a drink.

Booked a table for 6.30on Sat. 20h May. Waited at the bar to be seated only to be told that they'd close the kitchen. Brilliant. Noticed that out of 5 hand pumps only one was in use

Went on a Friday night for a meal with some friends. I had looked at the menu online which looked good, but the menu we were given didn't not resemble the online one. Mains came out fairly quickly but very bland and food just looked like it had been thrown on the plate. I had only eaten half of my meal which the waitress commented on, I just told her I wasn't very hungry as I didn't want to say I hadn't enjoyed it. We order puddings, two of us ordered berry Eton mess. I didn't finish mine as it wasn't an Eton mess as there was no meringue in it, thought it was just mine but my friend so exactly the same thing. When we mentioned this to the waitress she was apologetic and said she would see the manager about taking something off the bill. When paying at the bar the waitress said she had spoken to the manager about the Eton mess but didn't want to do anything about it, she looked very embarrassed. Who ever the landlord is he obviously has completely lack customer service and is bothered about repeat business.

What a lovely friendly country pub.We were welcomed straight away by teo very polite and helpful staff members. We had booked a table. We placed out order easily at the bar one of our choices was unavailable but it was easy to find another choice. They accomidated all of our requests and were very helpful. Our food was lovely and hot and very tasty. We will definately visit again. Very family friendly pub with lovely kids play area. Amazing thank you for our plesent visit

Booked a table for 6 last Monday after checking that Menu is what we wanted. Menu was changed some time back and it was not to our taste, the menu on the website looked like some of the old menu had been put back so we booked. On our arrival we were horrified to see it was the menu that we did not like. The owner told us that this was due to the website builder which he has no control over. Terrible experience - will never return.

Visited with friends on a chilly April day, the pub seemed dreary, a fireplace with no lit fire, ( my pet hate) . No table service, have to find menus yourself, only one bitter although 4 pumps, apparently they can't afford to get more beer until the summer.. Eventually some fairy lights were switched on by the sole member of staff, food was ok, staff member was helpful and friendly but sadly nothing draws you back to this pub.

Food was great. Fish batter crisp. Mixed grill meat was moist and "hot" egg with it just right Gammon steak and eggs good.critism is plates could have been warmer. Menu on the website needs updating otherwise customers could be put off eating there as their choices are not available. Staff friendly.well done to all

Booked this venue for my son's 21st birthday party and we had a great time. Staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful. The buffett was perfect, lovely quality and very fresh. Wouldn't hesitate to come back.

This is an OK local, but it could be so much better. It's more of a drinker's pub than a food pub (you feel a bit out of place if you go for food, as most of the customers seem to be after work boozers). It's not a "Gastropub" by any stretch of the imagination, but it also isn't the homely sit by the log-fire, have a beer olde-worlde pub either. Overall it feels tired, like it needs investment and focus to profit. A shame, given the location next to the new builds, it could be so much better. Note some reviews posted here are of a different place.

This seems to be a pub for drinkers only. It could be so much more.

Only popped in for a quick bite during a test drive so can give a proper update. Staff were friendly and food was good (light lunch). Toilets were clean. Would be good to try in an evening to get a full experience

This right here is what dreams are made of. Perfect start to the week, pizza and a free side for two hot chicks and a cider each to wash it down. This feeling is unmatched

Eye rolling staff member on entering Staff member right in your personal space leaning across table Uncooked food and what was cooked was tasteless no comparison to The Fishers Pond further down the road - where staff are well trained and delicious food. Will not return to Fox and Hounds

Come here for dinner last Sunday. Service was as expected. Ordered the fox and hounds burger which was advertised to come with chips and onion rings. After receiving my order no onion rings came with the food. After asking why the bar staff didn't know and assumed they had run out. No offer of a replacement or pre warned when ordering. Pub has a nice atmosphere and the drinks that where ordered where fine. Nice place to come for a drink but wouldn't return to dine

Had an evening meal first impression bar staff miserable was shown to our table in the conservatory by a nice member of staff very chatty shame bar lady couldn't be so welcoming. Had to order at bar as apparently not enough staff, ordered food from the miserable girl behind bar asked for lasagne to be told no lasagne so went for the burger,my husband ordered hunters chicken. Drinks were nice and reasonably priced,when food arrived was impressed by portion size unfortunately it went down hill from there, my burgers we're cheap processed burgers, chips were definitely frozen chips they were warm and rubbery obviously been left under heat lamp for a while disappointing. My husband's chicken was not chargrilled as would have expected for hunters chicken dish instead it was anemic in colour and looked as if it had been boiled. Reading other reviews definitely a drinkers pub as my lemonade and lime was tasty but most definitely not for food sorry won't be back for food but maybe a drink in summer.

Feel sorry for staff as everything we ordered they didn't have. No prawns for jacket potatoes, no halumi cheese for salad. And no berries for Eton mess desserts!!!!! Probably won't be booking again. 5 of us went and each of us couldn't order what we wanted

Limited and short menu, not much for vegetarians and especially vegans - and on our visit a number of those very few items were not available. The portions are large, but poor quality, so not good value for money. Limited selection of cask beers (two on our visit, and one of those was not fresh). It looks like a standard, professionally run, main-road family pub, but - at least in the winter - is more like a rough local, with people mobbing around the front door smoking, a crowd of men in the front bar arguing and swearing, and scantily glad teens hanging around in the back room. Staff are variable - a number are friendly and helpful, but one - perhaps the manager or owner - is perhaps rather stressed as she always looked miserable, spoke bluntly and at times rudely to customers, creating an unpleasant at at times hostile environment. We didn't feel comfortable or safe there.

Excellent service, the best I have ever had from a pub. Atmosphere was great, England playing USA may have helped.

Everyone I met was delightful especially the staff. I will be going back for food as it looked really nice. I went for the clevoince night.

First time back in over 5years. Staff were very helpful and catered for my disability needs. I had pie and mash and my partner had jacket potato, presentation was good and everything tasted good too. Some meals seem over priced albit I guess in current climate they need to stay afloat.

I had a lovely time with my friends and family. The quality is brilliant. Quantity is quite a lot but it’s fine. We got some extra food as well as we customised an order. The atmosphere is nice and was hardly any people. The staff were lovely and the toilets were quite good compared to others

When I asked about which cider was dry the bar maid replied," I don't drink cider so your asking the wrong person" she was more interested in talking to the one obvious regular that she knew.she poured two ciders to a gentleman who asked for moretti. I don't think I have ever felt such a cold welcome from a pub and their staff. Will I revisit. No thanks I will go to a bar that happily wants custom with decency and manners.

Cheaply produced meals, not very appetising. Two meals returned as not nice at all and another only half eaten. I had heard the food here was goodbye it wasn't when went. Maybe just a bad day.

We held a wake for my father-in-law here and it was superb. Colin was extremely helpful and nothing was too much trouble. We had a hot meal for 35 and the Chef did us proud. Thank you Colin and staff .

Nice food, shame the staff don't ask the customers to kerb their colourful language especially when young children are around. Staff were OK not overly interested in passers-by.

It was out first time here and wasn’t disappointed. The restaurant leads into a conservatory and had plenty of tables. The food arrived hot with plenty on the plate. Typical pub prices.

Dead flowers on the table. Mediocre food. A friends birthday party . Salmon was over cooked. Think they were short staffed.

Very happy with the food when we visited on Sunday. I had steak and my husband had gammon. The food was all well cooked. The side salad was fresh and tasty. The staff were all lovely, especially the waitress who went above and beyond to be helpful. Will be back soon.
