A good solid pub that serves food and has good ambience. I was very grateful to them because it was 1030pm on a Tuesday and they still served me unlike a pub down the road that had already closed. Nice friendly young team. Next time I will come back earlier and try the food.

Went for lunch with my husband and dog. Ordered the Kiwi burger and Whyte Hart special burger. Husband and I split the burgers so we could enjoy a bit of both. Being a Kiwi myself, I couldn’t fault the kiwi burger. It bought back nostalgic memories. I also asked for gravy for the chips which they were happy to provide. Lovely staff, had a nice time with really good food. I normally pop here two to three times a year and have never had a bad experience.

Visited while in the area with family members. Prebooked a table for 7.45pm. Lovely quaint traditional pub. Shown to our table and drinks orders taken. Holly came and took our orders - 10/10 for her enthusiasm and friendliness - she was so good. Starters and mains were all delicious and absolutely piping hot. After main course we decided to have a little rest before asking for dessert menu (different waitress - not Holly). We were advised that they were not serving desserts as they had a shortage of chefs for the evening and they had been very busy (and also the kitchen was now closed). It was such a shame as we are pudding fans and had been looking forward to sampling one. I had a smaller main course so that I had room for a pudding. It would have been nice if we had been informed at the start of our meal that there would be no desserts available. Overall a lovely evening but the "no pudding" did dampen our enthusiasm a little and as we aren't local we probably won't get chance for a revisit.

Arrived at the bar to a very unwelcome bar person , no greeting , just stared at us , drinks ordered and we sat at a table we found ourselves . After 20-25 minutes no one came over to us to offer a menu . We drank our drinks and left . No acknowledgement on our leaving . Where has the Whyte Hart spirit of previous years gone ?. A terrible shame . Avoid at all cost.

Hands down the worst carvery I’ve ever eaten in my entire life. Roast potatoes looked like they had been cooked on the radiator and were basically just semi boiled potatoes. The chicken looked like a small roasted pigeon. The Yorkshire pudding was flat as a pancake and the gravy was actually some how thinner than water. How this place has an average 4.4 star review is mind blowing. Toby carvery blows this place out the water and that’s saying something. Absolutely shameful roast dinner, will definitely never be coming back lol.

Disappointed! We haven’t been in for a while & we were really sad at the current service and food there. The bar lady did nothing to make us feel welcome, in fact the opposite! Was borderline rude. Ordered two burgers. Tiny buns & £10 for half a chicken breast! The other was £20 & while tastes good was not value for money. Got charged £2 extra to swap from chunky fries to skinny - ridiculous! Asked for mayo - waited to be told they didn’t have any & so was given a bottle of ketchup which was still sealed & then went everywhere trying to open! We were not asked if food was ok during or after meal. Would not return! A real shame as we liked it here a few years ago.

Hoped to have a few drinks prior to a Thai meal in Hamble. Was served an undrinkable glass of red wine and asked if I could replace it for another variety in case the wrong one had been poured. Was refused as had taken a couple of sips, despite my partner having a full pint of Guinness and we were hoping to while away an hour at a lovely table. Sadly the attitude of the bar staff would not warrant a return visit and the wine was left more than 7/8 full at the bar as a replacement was refused. We went to a lovely pub at the King & Queen - spent an hour, lovely wine, great service and tried to give a tip and were told there was no need as it was only drinks - what a complete difference in service!!

Absolute appalling meal. Starter was 4 prawns in a chilli sauce which was extremely hot, and I enjoy chilli, with bread. Main meal was supposedly ham, egg, chips. Chips were the best thing on the plate. Eggs too cooked and the so called honey ham was warmed up pork! Yes we did complain but were assured it was ham. J20 and a coffee. Bill came £30. For an awful meal and it was freezing cold. Draught from the window, even though they had an open fire. Will not be going there again.

This was the worst roast I think I have ever had out. 2 of the meals come out wrong and when saying about it to staff she replied the chef said it was all correct beef was missing from one plate so they brought a slice out said just been cooked but it look raw. I thought a roast was a joint of meat not frying beef. If you have a combo you get the smallest amount of meat. We asked for more gravy which we waited for about 10 minutes to be told there it is a small milk jug between 6 and they had run out then another staff appeared with more gravy. Veg was hard and drinks over price. Tbh it was only 1 staff member she was really rude other were polite.

Went here once before and had a terrible experience but thought I would try again. I shouldn’t of bothered. There was only 4 of us , we were the only ones eating but still waited about 40 minutes for starters. Then waited at least another 40 minutes for mains. My daughters food came out wrong, I asked the waiter to take it and change it but his attitude was so bad that I told my daughter to just take it as it was. Never once came over to ask if it was all ok, was too busy smoking out in the back garden with the other staff. Food wasn’t too bad but really don’t know why it took so long and the staffs attitudes need looking at. It’s customers that keep these places going so at least give good customer service. I won’t be going back a 3rd time!!!

However, having seen a couple of pies come out which looked amazing I would definitely order one if we visited again. It was friendly pub with both bar staff & customers ready for a chat. We have been here quite a few times, everything, especially the food was great. But something has changed. More recent reviews reflect this. We ordered 2 meals, both were wrong. Asked for chunky chips got mash. The menu said chunky chips with the burger, got skinny fries. We had to get the menu to prove it. The burger bun was basic , previously it was ace. Seasonal vegetables were frozen peas, so one vegetable then. The waitress was really apologetic, not her fault we know but she was taking the flack from others and us, she was 5 star. Beer still good. We understood it was day 2 for the kitchen, but it wasn't busy and these were not difficult orders. A beautiful looking pub/restaurant in the village of Hamble. The pub has a lovely open fire in the centre of the building which is unfortunately what caused the problem... that and the owner!!! We went in for an early dinner/late lunch and the whole place was empty, we chose to sit in the restaurant side and ordered our meals. While we were there the staff propped open the kitchen door which changed how the smoke was being drawn through from the fire and filled the restaurant area with smoke. We mentioned this to the staff who were trying to do something with the fire to be told by one that it was her pub and she could do what she liked. No apologies offered by the owner at all. If we hadn't been visiting family (who fortunately hadn't heard the comment) we would have walked out then and there. The food was really nice it was such a shame that the owner let it down. We had intended to have a dessert but did not want to give them any more money. We will not be going there again especially having read reviews since, it is not a one off occurrence. There are plenty of other venues in the area - go somewhere else!!

Poor. The young waitress was lovely but when our food came 4 out 6 of our meals were terrible. One meal didn’t come, the calamari was extremely chewy and the burgers tasted off, the chips were undercooked (and served with chunky fries instead of the requested skinny fries), 2 of 3 burgers had no cheese… I could go on. I wouldn’t usually complain but when half your party is left hungry and you are charging £18 for a meal, I decided to say something. What I assume was a manager came to ask what the problem was but had such an attitude. Granted they refunded the burgers, but at payment we were met with an equally grumpy bartender who told us she ‘hoped we had worked out how to split the bill because she wouldn’t’. I’m so shocked at my experience at this establishment. Wasn’t very busy in restaurant section but was a little at the bar. The bar seemed more important than the restaurant side as service was a little slow. As for the food not great. Dry is the word the sums up our 4 different dish choices. Now if one of the four was slightly dry I would put it down to a bad dish it can happen, but for all four to be dry isn’t a great advert for this establishments food. One meal was so bad it had to be sent back. Once we had eaten all we could we have some feed back to our server when she reported it back to what I guess was the landlady we were accused of trying to get free food. I was shocked at this as not once had we asked for anything to be removed from the bill. The landlady’s attitude from that point was absolutely disgusting rude and abrupt in front of my children and other customers was that bad she cost her young waitress a tip. This seems like a great little venue maybe add some flavour to your food and some customer service lessons needed. Would never recommend or visit again

Starters were lovely. Mains we’re absolutely shocking. I had fish pie, was terribly dry, I had to send it back for lack of flavour. My partner had the pork belly, the meat itself was cooked well, the potatoes had no flavour whatsoever. My sons cheese burger was overwhelmingly seasoned with pepper, was tingling my tongue for 10mins after. When I approached the waitress to explain how the food was and especially my 12 year old sons burger, I walked away in private to tell her so not in front of the other guests, she said she would report back. I then herd the female manager from the bar say “she just wants free food”. I herd this and went to the bar to say that we don’t want free food, they just should make it clear on the menu that it has a lot of pepper in. To which she opened the kitchen door and told the chef to tell me, to which he replied yes there was a lot of pepper in it. We go out for dinner quiet a lot and don’t expect to be spoken to like that especially from the landlady of an establishment. Although the main meals were not great, I have come away appalled by the level of customer service. I have never been spoken to like that in my life. The rudest experience of my life. When the bill was brought she then slammed it on table and walked off. Absolutely disgusted

Absolutely wonderful! We were a party of six and were well looked after from start to finish. We each enjoyed a main course and a dessert. Main courses were fish pie (with fennel in and just the right amount), lamb cooked to perfection, an amazing and very generous pie along with two huge and tasty burgers. Meals served with seasonal veg as appropriate and these were all cooked well. Desserts ordered included sticky toffee pudding, cheesecake and apple crumble- again delicious! The young lady who served us was perfectly attentive but not overbearing. She was courteous and appeared to genuinely enjoy her job as she smiled throughout service. All of this offset with the ambiance and aroma of crackling fire. Lunches don't get better than this.

We were worried there wouldn’t be enough but it kept coming out and we had lots of nice comments on how happy everyone was with the venue and the food. Only struggle was trying to get some answers over the telephone. But we needn’t have worried as they had everything executed to perfection. The person whose wake it was used to drink here. So it was a perfect send off. We even had use of the tv in the upstairs room to show a slideshow of photos. Thank you to everyone at ye olde whyte heart. 🙏

There may have been some chicken in it but it was minute pieces but lots of cubes of potatoes and carrot. No bacon or leek , pastry was soggy and fatty too . We did get a full refund though really I would prefer to have eaten a nice pie !

It's been years since we last visited but not disappointed. Lovely food and Gales HSB ! Staff were busy but helpful and the rear garden was ideal in the heat of the evening.

Sunday lunch for 6 people wasn'tanything special, I've had better carveries. Beef and lamb were well overcooked and roast potatoes needed longer in the oven. Needed to order extra gravy due to this. Veg was nice and cauliflower cheese which compensated a little for what was on whole a bit of a disappointing meal. Friendly staff but not very attentive. 2 cokes ordered.and only one arrived. Cheeseboard dessert took ages , when asked where it was after some time.waiti was told the cheeseboard takes a while to make ???? I When it arrived it had 3 small wedges of cheese quite adequate for 1 and 3 bits of celery.and a tiny pot of something , don't know what it was but wasn't very nice. When I asked where the grapes or salad was I was told.they don't have any , not enough biscuits to accompany the very uninviting board . Also asked for a.glass of merlot to accompany this but it never arrived. 3 star review as nice ambient feel and atmosphere but have felt unwell since eating the cheese.

We have had a great meal and a few drinks at the pub, the menu was very good. My wife is gluten free and there were lots of choices for her. Food was hot and we didn't wait long at all. Brilliant little local.

Food was very nice and if you ordered the large size it was worth the price. The barman was friendly, polite and welcoming. Toilets were clean and there was plenty of seats.

On a busy evening our group of 3 were accommodated and informed of the 30 minute food order wait. We had a round of drinks and perused the menu. We didn't have to wait long before our server was in attendance to ask what we would like to order. Although we were prepared for a 30 minute wait, in the end it was nearer to 20 minutes when our food was delivered. 3 different meals and all wonderfully presents and very flavoursome. Will definitely be back.

We have just got home after a great meal at the King Rufus, the food was fantastic and the service, was good, we were served by quite a few of the staff who were on duty and they were all very professional. Looking forward to our next visit for either Breakfast or Dinner. Louisa

We had a friends/family night at the Fox, there was over 100 of us, Food buffet style. Well presented, very tasty curry and chilli, pizza option with fries, plus trimmings. The staff worked tireless, I would and my guests recommend the pub. It's been down on its luck but with new manageress and great chef additions recently, can be the place to visit. Thanks and good luck all.
