This bakery had been recommended to me as a great little independent bakery with great food. I donāt live in Kirkby and we meeting a friend half way so this was perfect. The welcome we received was so welcoming and even though they were busy the service was friendly and fast. And the foodā¦. Wow!! Just wish I had taken a photo. I had the quiche and salad which was delicious but I just couldnt finish it as the portion was huge. Then I bought some muffins to take home for my family. Again they were huge and delicious! Great value for money and a great little find. Definitely would recommend This bakery/cafe and will be visiting again next time Iām in KL.

Recently moved to the area and dined here several times now with friends and family visiting me. The staff are all very personable and hands on, service is excellent. The food is also very consistent and does not disappoint. I have thoroughly enjoyed everything I have ordered here, my Bedlington terrier, Dolly, particularly loves the Sunday roast - her favourite meal "treat" of the week!!

We visit Kirkby Lonsdale every year for a week or two and always use the chippy, it has changed hands since our last visit so we were interested see what the new owners grub was like. Well what can I say, two Fridays on the trot we have used the chippy and can honestly say itās the best Cod & chips weāve ever tasted! The XL cod is huge, the batter is to die for, the chips are cooked like the cod to perfection. The staff are fabulous and last but not least the place has been cleaned to within an inch of its life, it is spotless. Visit this chippy you will not be disappointed, itās just a shame we wonāt be back until our next visit.

The best service. We were greeted by the owner on arrival. A very small local business, with a nice atmosphere. I had a cheese and onion toastie and my friend had a full English breakfast, the owner was very nice and asked us which bread we'd prefer etc. The food came piping hot and was very obviously fresh from the kitchen, service was fast and with a smile. Lovely food and very reasonably priced especially for the area. Will definitely visit again āØļø

Farfield Mill looked the ideal stopping place for lunch on the way to our holiday cotttage. The Mill is a lovely building. We sat down in the nearly empty tearoom and immediately had to change tables as the original one was so rocky despite the wadge of paper stuck under the table leg. The food itself was pretty awful. My 'hot' panini was barely warm. And my husband's potato and watercress soup was dreadful. More like green water! I make watercress soup at home and it's not difficult! We won't be returning.

Awful, second time hair in food. Milkshake and waffle. The lady serving us didnāt wash her hands before using her hands to get the ice cream out of the scoop. My friend orders a waffle but they didnāt not have enough waffle mixture after I asked if she could make it and she still said no and I was still charged the same amount for half of a small waffle. As we walked into the shop it took the server 10mins to come down and serve us. Very disappointed with something that used to be good

The spice Essence 48-50 Main Street, Kirby Lonsdale. LA6 2AJ Tel: 01524 272725 Date of Visit 21st May 2023. No. 164 A pleasant warm early summers evening and you could be in far worse places than Kirby Lonsdale in Cumbria. A stroll over to a very busy Devils Bridge with its usual array of bikers and people swimming in the river. I strolled back to the village and made my way to an Indian restaurant by the Name of SPICE ESSENCE. A busy little place with seating for around 60 people. A warm friendly greeting on my arrival. Decked out in warm neutral colours situated on the first floor of a small building tucked away down a little side street. I decided on my usual bench-mark stuff to begin with, Poppadomās with the pickle tray, there was a yogurt dip on the tray which I found to be absolutely delicious, I enquired what was in it and was told, Yogurt, cream, fresh garden mint, chillies and mango, it was superb. Next up was Sheek Kebabs, perfectly spiced minced Lamb on a bed of fried onions and a fresh crispy salad. I asked the waiter to recommend a main for me he suggested the special mixed Masala. A dish of Lamb, chicken wings and king prawns, in a rich creamed coconut and ground almond sauce, it had a delicious sweetness and extremely tasty. Accompanied by pilau rice and a delicious peshwari naan. Guess whatās for my evening meal tomorrow? The cost of this little extravaganza was Ā£ 35.35 which included a pint of COBRA for the decent price of Ā£5.20. Parking I would guess to be a problem during busy times. Iām going to give this place a solid 8.5 Well worth searching out, opens a 5.30 pm.
