Excellent service, room was quirky, however, clean and well presented. The food was delicious, particularly the Hake and scallop tagliatelle with a creamy lobster glace sauce. Great value for money. We will be back.

We stopped to have lunch at the Snooty Fox and we had a great time. It was afternoon and the waitress/bartender suggested some good sandwiches and they were delicious. The bar and place to eat are old, 1700’s I’d guess, but the service is great and very friendly.

Our stay was a tale of two halves. The rooms are lovely for the most part. The breakfasts were very good and we were well looked after by the very pleasant Emily who could not do enough for us. Unfortunately, that's where the good ends and we're left with the Mr. Hyde part of our stay. The pub is very much a sports bar, of the type you'd expect to find in a large town. We were a party of 6, 4 adults and 2 children staying on a Saturday. We had booked months in advance as part of a trip to Scotland. We were greeted by extremely surly bar staff, who seemed to consider us an inconvenience. There was a big boxing match being shown that evening. Upon returning from dinner we saw there were two bouncers on the door who said children couldn't come in. I thought they were joking so just walked through. But no. They blocked the kids from following me. We explained we were staying there and they relented, but told us they couldn't stay and have a drink in the bar and to go straight to our rooms. Fortunately we'd found somewhere else to eat but only after in the 3rd place we tried as everywhere was busy. Otherwise, I'm not sure what we could have done for food as clearly we wouldn't be allowed to eat at our accommodation. We knew to expect some noise from the bar, but honestly the ruckus was unacceptable for a place that advertises family rooms. There was screaming and swearing until gone 1am. The "family" room has a bed settee that is utterly knackered an be when we mentioned that to the bar staff they just said "no one else has complained" The only reason this isn't a 1 star review is because of the nice rooms and Emily. The Snooty Fox needs to decide if it wants to be a place for a family to stay or a place to go fight on a Saturday night. It can't be both.

Very poor service - from start to finish. Only 2 people on the bar sorting drinks and taking food orders. 5 Sunday dinners ordered - 3 turkey dinners, dry and shredded, not slices, 1 beef with the smallest shredded pieces of beef, 1 pork dinner with 2 small slices of pork. The next customers who were ordering food were advised there was no more pork or beef - we’d literally had the scraps! The pork dinner arrived with a teaspoon of mash and an empty gravy jug. Cauliflower cheese was immense but had to request spoons to serve. At the end of the meal we went to order drinks and waited 10 minutes whilst the bar tender, who had seen us waiting, indulged in conversations as opposed to serving - in the end we left for a drink elsewhere. Would definitely benefit from a manager overseeing the service and monitoring the quality of the food being served

Booked a short notice overnight stop here had t realised no parking you have to park in town car park only a short walk but in August lucky to get a space. On arrival I wondered what I’d walked into ,but landlady I think she is was very pleasant and friendly. My room was quaint but small I felt a bit off balance as floor sloped bit but it’s an old building with character. My room was clean comfortable. I ate in the pub and my food was restaurant standard cooked beautifully . Would I rerun yes for sure . They do warn you the pub can get loud but it was ok when I was there

Terrible place. We went into the outdoor garden at back, I should have known by the state of the place not to eat there. Dirty plates and glasses left on tables, serviettes and other rubbish strewn everywhere. Rat poison boxes right there by tables - no bother to place them discreetly. Now onto the food - burger was hard and cold - so cold that the cheese had not even melted on it at all- I suspect it was left over from lunchtime service and they had tried to warm it up a bit. Husbands fried egg had to be sent back as it was very snotty. When his meal came back it was colder than mine. The place looks quite nice from the outside but beware it is not a good experience.

We booked the Snooty Fox for a Saturday lunchtime as part of an extended family weekend away. There was 19 of us right from babies through to grandparents. From the moment we booked they couldn’t have been more helpful or made us feel more welcome. Despite it being an incredibly busy Saturday lunchtime for the pub, the staff were all extremely cheerful, helpful and professional. The food was all delicious with great choice, quality and portion sizes. The lighter lunches and kids menu are insane value for such great meals. My husband visited a week ago and appears unable to leave a review so I'll have do it for him. This is written by him: I have to say I am a very, very unhappy customer. I have only ever been in your establishment twice and you have failed twice, first time you ran out of food.(See my other post) but this time I am gobsmacked with how I and other customers were treated, let me tell you what happened. Me and my disabled friend came into the pub to watch the challenge cup final. We were told it would be on the garden TV so we got seated and enjoyed a few pints before the game started other customers asked if the Rugby league challenge cup final was going tobe on and we confirmed it would be, quite a few gathered. then one of the bar staff came out and put the Rugby league onto the TV. we watched the teams come out and then as they were playing the national anthem, another member of staff, turned the TV over for 2 customers who had just entered the establishment, I asked why when there were at least 10 customers already watching it. He said he had to look after all his customers and the Rugby league was actually on in the bar. After feeling numb about what had happened we all filed into the pub. There were no seats available and we were squeezed in between tables where people were dining. If i had paid to eat a meal I wouldn't want somebody stood in between me and the next table. I had a word with the staff member who had turned the TV over and he said there was nothing he could do. So we had to leave as my friend is unable to stand for any period of timel. We asked a local if he knew where we could watch the Rugby league game and he told us, he even gave us a lift up to Kirkby Lonsdale Rugby Union Club. The bar staff in the club were very welcoming and the game was being shown on a big screen. So we missed the first twenty-five minutes of the game and the tribute to Robbie Burrows, so I've got to say I'm not using your establishment again or recommending it to others and just a word to wise KLRUFC are showing some of the Euro games on a big screen. If anyone is struggling for a welcoming establishment to watch the games. shame on your staff for not even respecting the national anthem or a customers disability! Dave Lowram

I’m not one to write bad reviews when I can help it … but we stayed at the Snooty Fox last night and sadly it was a poor experience. The noise from the bar was very loud in the bedrooms. In fairness, in the info we received after booking, it did mention that entertainment from the bar could be heard in the rooms but we would never have expected it to be so loud and so consistent - from 7pm till midnight. Loud enough to drown out the tv. We couldn’t sleep until the pub closed at midnight. Having already lost precious hours sleep - the fire or burglar alarm then went off at 7am. The rooms were comfy and clean. But lacked bedside tables … you don’t realise how much you need them until you don’t have them! Breakfast was mediocre. All in all, I’d have been ok with it if was priced in the cheap and cheerful bracket of a travel lodge for eg .. but we paid £130 for a very poor nights sleep. Let the staff know it had been a bad night and apology was offered but no compensation. Unless you’re gonna be out til late - I’d avoid.

Cracking spot, cosy, lovely rooms and a good solid hearty breakfast. We decided to spend a couple of nights here, midweek, on the spur of the moment. The pub itself is really old. It’s a grade 2 listed building dating back to the late 17th/early 18th century and you can really feel its age in the thick walls and wonky lintels!! The bedroom was lovely, really snug and warm and our dog loved it too. Massive double bed, tv, coffee machine and kettle, on suite was good with a powerful shower over the bath. I’ll be back here because it was way better than the price we paid! Even the wife loved it!!

It’s a great location & the pub downstairs is nice. Welcome upon arrival was pleasant enough. Make sure you don’t miss breakfast which finishes at 9am sharp; wife went down at 9.09am and was told that breakfast was finished ‘and it’s in the booklet’. Thanks for that. We weren’t told the time breakfast closed when we arrived. The bed was on the small side and broken, so beware if you have a bad back. The bathroom is very nice but the ceiling of the shower is papered and so has mould. We came back as we had last visited just before Covid & wanted to support a local business. It’s a bit off the motorway so it’s a dark country road drive if you’re arriving late, as we did. Kirby Lonsdale is beautiful but I wouldn’t stay at The Snooty Fox again, as the lack of hospitality at breakfast is a big No from me. The Royal Hotel across the road looks like a much better option & had a great breakfast!

Two couples, dining. Extremely grumpy, rude unpleasant man serving/at the bar. Appeared unhappy/stressed but totally unconcerned about the effect of his demeanour on his customers. Food was acceptable for three of the four meals ordered. The first vegan option from the menu was, we were told ‘not available’. Second vegan choice key ingredient also then not available, so we were asked what we would like instead (of the ingredient). What arrived bore no resemblance to what was ordered and was poor. Our host could not be arsed. Would have sent it back if we were not concerned it would have sent our host over the edge. Great place to go if you enjoy being treated like poo.

I waited 10 mins at the bar to get served eventually by a grumpy man who clearly did not want to be there, he was tutting and sighing when I asked if I could have chips instead of mash and curtly said there is a button on here for that , the menu only states mash so hence that's why I asked. Well the food arrived steak pie for me with bland peas and carrots and the whole meal tasted of washing up liquid, my husband had all day breakfast had no butter for the toast and the eggs were rock hard. We waited for a table check to tell him but we never saw the barman again as he stayed in the back ( kitchen I think ) The meals took ages to arrive and there was only us and a table of 4 who already had their lunch. £38 money totally wasted.

Looked online at the menu and decided to book a table for a family of 4. Big mistake!! We ordered the meals and when they arrived they didn’t resemble anything like what was described on the menu, when I queried this I just got told they would take my meal off the bill. No apology and no reason why. The rest of the family’s meal was pretty much the same, the gravy seemed to have slices of gravy rather than being a liquid. I would save your money and go somewhere else, the person who refunded the money obviously didn’t care about what was being served or the quality of the food. Overall a very disappointing meal.

Least friendly Pub I’ve ever been into. DONT go in here just because it’s the first pub in the village- keep walking and go somewhere else that deserves your money. Says ‘Dog Friendly’ on the signs outside but staff couldn’t be less friendly to dogs or humans if they tried. Ordered a drink from Manager (I know he was the manager as he rudely told someone on the phone that he was- youngish guy, small with dark hair) he was clearly in a bad mood- awful attitude I was really taken aback as a lone female (no one else was in the bar!!) Asked for a dog bowl for water as none outside. Unfriendly Manager told me initially he had only just got in and didn’t know if any had been given out. Didn’t offer to help. Had to search and then go and politely ask again to be rudely told he had already given one out today. So the whole pub and two beer gardens have only one communal dog bowl apparently. Returned 2 days later with partner (and dog again) as it does look nice from the outside and partner fancied a pint… I was reluctant but appreciate people have ‘off days’ so nipped in. Partner was served by an older barman and I waited in the beer garden. Partner commented how rude staff were when he came out to me, really stern and unfriendly. Won’t be going back, gutted we wasted money here when other pubs in the area are really nice and staff far nicer. Maybe customer service courses are advisable so you get repeat customers because it was empty both times we visited over an August weekend. Snooty by name, Snooty by nature.

Visited as a family of 4 at 5pm, Foid was ok, but the following was aet down.... On arrival I noted the 241 cocktail offer, the barmaid didn't know they did cocktails and asked a colleague.... We knew they had ran out of cauliflower cheese, which was fine as you paid for it as extra... However our roast arrived without the stuffing, crackling and cabbage, when we asked where it was the waitress shrugged her shoulders and said " we have probably ran out" and that was that... no apology or offer of alternative or goodwill I asked same waitress for more gravy, but she disappeared I asked a second waiter again for "lots more gravy" My dinner was cold by the time a single pot of water like gravy arrived... apparently they also ran out of gravy??!! This was disappointing given they actually advertise a "top up" of Yorkshire, potato and gravy!!! The kids icecream then arrived before they finished their mains, so they ate it with our dirty plates still present My daughter was upset she wasn't asked what flavour icecream she wanted or sauce... Food was ok, imagine it would have been better earlier in day I gave feedback to the same waitress who ignored my first gravy request, lets hope she doesn't ignore feedback too for the next family!

Went for lunch on Monday - menu looked good, however food did not live up to expectations. Lasagne with 'dressed salad' - salad looked like it had been dressed the previous week - and a very small size. Speaking to staff having given a very wilted piece of lettuce back, the only response was 'sorry' and nothing further; perhaps that is what the management has told them to say fir any complaint. Chicken burger was a but dry with nit much flavour. Beef burger not too bad, although slightly over cooked. Wish we'd gone somewhere else.

Will never come here again!! Children’s sausage and mash came out with the mash over cooked and dry with crusty edge! The potato skins were like frisbees, totally dry and bland! 1 Female member of staff very unhelpful when I asked for the children’s deserts I was told I should have ordered them at the time of ordering the main. When I said no one told me that I was told “well it’s too late I can’t put them through now” Tables sticky and toilet floor covered in urine! Don’t go!!!

A very disappointing meal I ordered a fish pie when it arrived the fish was still frozen. They took it away to re heat it when they brought it back some time later and we’ll after my husband had finished his meal. The quality of the meal was still very poor the mashed potato was not fresh and seemed pre prepared instant smash that was dry and tasteless on both our meals.

I wouldn’t usually write a review like this but I feel it needs to be said.. the meal was a shambles! I’ve been here 3 times now in a large group and it’s quite clear the pub has changed hands! It was booked for 8 adults and 4 children for 5pm. The table had a reserved sign for 5.30 so they clearly weren’t expecting us when we turned up at 5. The table had 8 chairs and no high chairs as requested. We needed another table to fit us all round which they did bring. We were put in a side room just for us which was great but it was sweltering hot and made the babies restless. Now the fun bit, the food. No one told us you needed to order at the bar so we sat there for a while before we realised. They had run out of steak pies which is fine but then they had no veg so substituted it for a side salad which doesn’t really go with bangers and mash :/ then the two steaks that were ordered to be cooked medium came and oozed blood as they cut into them so my mum wouldn’t eat hers, one of the kids meals came with chips not rice and the infamous side salad didn’t come nor did the garlic bread so we had to chase them. We all decided to avoid the desserts as the mains weren’t the best and we didn’t want to waste anymore money after already spending £160! Both the kids meals did however come with desserts so we ordered x2 Eton messes’s. But when they came the gentleman said they were out of meringue so he’d put some sweets in with the ice cream like he’d done us a favour. The kids weren’t happy and didn’t really eat them. My sister decided to finish my nieces and didn’t realise there were smarties in there and it broke her filling. So it’s safe to say we definitely won’t be returning. The meal was booked for my Dads 65th and I really wish we’d decided to book somewhere new. It’s a shame as the food and service has always been great in the past.

Went for the full breakfast and thoroughly enjoyed it. 4 thick bacon rashers, some tasty sausages and runny eggs. Reasonably priced and, so far, the best coffee I've had in Windermere. Wasn't too busy when we went and staff were friendly

Meant to give 4 stars sorry. We enjoyed 2 lovely pre dinner drinks in a traditional lake land inn served by friendly staff. We loved puppy and other dogs and atmosphere and drinks were good. Hope to see you next yearxx
