Brown Sugar in South Lakeland

Visited Windemere for my birthday, and 5 minutes after hopping off the train, we found Brown Sugar. Love the QR table booking service, fast and easy. Got a balcony seat, a little breezy as early spring, but they have heaters, which made sitting out comfortable. Service was quick and friendly, and the full English breakfast was super tasty! Good quality ingredients, the poached eggs in particular were nice. Prices were reasonable, so good value all round.

An excellent lunchtime meal in a lovely building in Windermere town. The service was good with plenty of choices on the menu as was the food, the chips were the best we had had for a long time.

Absolutely fabulous! I had a significant birthday (65! Shhhh) my husband arranged for both daughters & their families to surprise me for lunch! One of the waiters, Dave was excellent! He was in on the surprise & went out of his way to keep the secret, even holding back our order until everyone arrived. They had driven 122 miles that morning! The food as always was excellent. Plenty of choice & always served superbly! My favourite eatery in Windermere by far! Thank you Dave! ;)

Very loud music, when asked to turn down got attitude. Dead flowers on tables. Food mediocre at best and nothing to shout about. Waitress was rude. Would definitely not go back

We came here for a breakfast. After initially reading some reviews, I wasnt sure what to expect, but when it arrived, it was worth the ££s straight away and tasted delicious. It filled us for our 3hr drive home. Nice scenery views as we were upstairs. We were taken to our table & then used the app to order. A few tables around us arrived during our meal & after 5-10min were approached about if they'd ordered or not yet. They were busy, but it wasn't too noisy and you could see how efficient they were to clear & prep tables when customers had left. We found a few items interesting on the menu, so may return in a future visit to try something other than brekky.

This restuarant was amazing, the decor and atmosphere added to our birthday celebrations. Brilliant choice of menu and the presentation and taste of the food was outstanding. The staff were akso very professional and accomodating xxx

Good coffee, amazing cakes, great set up to plug a laptop or other device in. Dogs allowed inside too.

Poor experience lady that served us was amazing but the man in a grey suit was rude. Orderd a specific thing off the menu and was given the wrong thing when asked if the item is wrong he tried to tell me he heard what i had orderd even though he did not serve us. Do not recomend.

Very disappointing, visited after seeing previous reviews and overall rating but not a good experience ., steak not cooked as requested, pile it high plates, over familiar waiter. Tables not particularly clean, first and only visit. Can only assume previous reviewers are easily pleased

Lovely atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff. Unfortunately we did order a chicken dish which after sending back twice still came back raw. A staff member did state that it was the marinade which made it pink but this was very clearly not the case.

Amazing breakfast and amazing service! The food and drinks were great and we even took away some of the cakes as they looked too good to miss out on.

We were in Windermere on a Sunday and the restaurant advertised as serving Sunday lunches so we went on purely on that basis. Staff were clearly overworked with other customers having to wait longer than they expected for their orders. We selected our order from the menu and went to the bar to order 2 Sunday roast dinners and staff were initially unclear as to whether that was actually available and then confirmed that they were not actually serving Sunday roasts. Obviously we were disappointed so we immediately left.

An exceptional meal!!! The portion sizes were huge and all 4 meals were absolutely delicious. My gluten free pizza was insane and filled with seafood - all made to support my needs. Highly recommended!

We were in the area for 2 nights and we went in to Brown Sugar on the first night after visiting 2 or 3 other bars. We had Michael serve us and he was fantastic- so much so that we spent our last night in here too. They cater brilliantly for coeliac, with them doing gluten free pizza which was by far the best I’ve had anywhere, so like I said our final night has been spent in brown sugar, again with Michael serving us. He did a brilliant job looking after us, the atmosphere was spot on and all of the other staff made the effort of conversation as well which makes a huge difference to a bar. Over all, 0 complaints, and when we come back to Windermere, we’ll be coming back without a doubt. Thanks for the memories. And thanks to Michael.

Overall food was nice but service was disappointing. We booked the day before however when we arrived the table wasn’t ready. There seemed to be a lack of staff as the service was disgraceful. We ordered drinks and food all together at the same time (party of 6) however both our food and drinks came out in batches with some people’s food coming out before their drinks. Some drinks came out after we had finished eating. We didn’t get asked if we were wanting any sauces and had to ourselves in the staff area. Working in hospitality ourselves, more than one member of staff should be required for a busier period as such.

Great service and food was lovely would recommend the fish and chips or the Cumberland sausage.

My girlfriend and I really enjoyed the Brown Suger The food was amazing my girlfriend especially enjoy dessert. Home-made Banoffee pie followed by a couple of cocktails what went down really nice. The staff was friendly and fun and smiles on their faces would definitely will be back

Me and my partner haven’t had food but we came here before checking into our room near by. Long story short, Michael (the bar manager) told us other places to visit during our day trip but assured us that we end up back here. Safe to say we ended up back here! Such an amazing atmosphere and such amazing staff! Everyone made us feel comfortable and they all had us entertained throughout both visits!

We didn't order food as we'd already eaten, the manager Michael served us for drinks... absolutely amazing service. Really friendly, amazing atomosphere during the day so we came back in the evening. Again the service and atmosphere was fab, the whole team was lovely. Would highly recommend.

This is the best cocktail bar I HAVER EVER HAD COCKTAILS AT, l've worked and lived in London for 4 years behind bar and I have never experienced such amazing service and speed (by Michael) with every cocktail tasting AMAZING NO MATTER WHAT. If u go to the Lake District u should NOT MISS OUT on this experience it will be the cherry on top of ur trip, both bar staff red head and man in a suit was just as enthusiastic. NOTHING BEATS AMAZING COCKTAILS AND AMAZING SERVICE. I wish I could stay here all night. Wouldn’t even give it 1 star. Been here a few times and never been sat downstairs, and had to pre pay. Booked a table and had to sit downstairs and pre pay before we got our food, felt like we were been watched the whole time and very awkward for us to sit downstairs and be the only ones eating while everyone around us was drinking. Felt very profiled. Also another young couple came in after us and got sat up stairs so no excuse for us to be sat downstairs and they never had to pre pay. Felt like we were stereotyped won’t be returning

The most delicious seafood tagliatelle I've ever eaten, delicious creamy sauce, a huge portion, large shrimps, something beautiful. Everything was prepared from the heart and in the way I expected. The place is very clean and well-maintained. A great climate even in the bathroom 😂😍 I highly recommend this place. I'm from Preston but I think it's worth coming even for the food. Owner nice!! And you can talk to him casually ❤️

Went here for Sunday morning breakfast. Options and service was excellent- I would visit at any time of day for cake,drinks or meals! Decoration and atmosphere also very nice. Location is central to Windermere and building is unsual. Overall friendly place and delicious food.

Spent a lovely few hours sat with friends at Brown Sugar for drinks. Michael was most welcoming and looked after us very well, he is friendly and good humoured and nothing was too much for him. We will definitely visit again and will try the food next time, from what we saw it looked delicious and the menu was mouthwatering!

Unbelievable food and service. Yes it a bit pricy but not for the area, it's absolutely worth it. Warm too, gas fire on upstairs.

The waitress with red hair was amazing and attentive however the food was not up to par. Fish was mushy. Asked for no peas but they still gave them. The burger was nice but not amazing. The portions were indeed big so if you are looking for a filling meal this is the place. It’s local and easy to get to, can’t miss it. The restaurant looks great and has a colourful and alluring aesthetic. Not really worth the price though if I being honest.

As soon as we walked in we were greeted with smiles and a warm welcome. We were visiting for our anniversary so the staff took the time to get to know us and helped recommended places to visit which was lovely. The drinks and the food were both lovely and we were extremely happy with our service. I had the sausages and mash which was absolutely stunning, and my partner had the salmon which he really enjoyed. Would happily come here again!

The three of us had supper here. We had the burger, homemade leek and potato soup and the chicken parfait. The portions are very generous. After a good day's walking, the generous portions were just what was needed. We highly recommend the cakes. We had the lemon meringue pie, the chocolate brownie and rocky road. All delicious. Good cocktails too. Friendly service.

Lovely place. We're visiting windemere with our dog and the young woman who was on shift was very nice. She was fussing over our black lab and made sure we were ok. Very nice staff and food. Worth visiting.

We stayed at the amazing Windermere Boutique hotel and both eveneinh dined at Brown Sugar! The customer service was amazing, seved by a lovely Spanish lady and also chatted away with the manager. The food was perfect, haggis & pigs in blankets starters, carbonara, mussels & teriyaki chicken hanging kebabs. We also sampled a couple of the cocktails too. If you are looking for great food and the environment to match, dont look any further

Stayed in Windemere for four nights. Each and every night of our stay we chose to eat here for dinner. Service and meals were very good! Highly recommend. The outlook of the building was inviting and the inside was just that! Lovely ambience! It had a Friends feel to it on the ground level. Great menu and drinks list!

Wow, am I glad we did The lunch menu is full of treats from light meals to something adequate for a cold rainy day. Well this is one review I have no problem writing Came to Windermere Friday after a long haul it was raining heavy and seen this very welcoming place on the corner called brown sugar. Got a menu and decided to go for the pizza. And oh my god what a treat. But beware make sure your hungry as it was freshly baked and filling. Saturday went to bowness but still no pub could compete with brown sugar. Got talking to Michael the manager and what a welcomeing man. This guy and his staff really know how to make you feel welcome. I committed on how well he ran the place to which he replied " it's not me. I have a great team" so make this place a must!!!! When in the area. One very satisfied customer who WILL be back. Thanks Michael and your fantastic team 👌☺️

Maybe it’s because we’re from a city but this place and the staff are poor, after placing an order for a round of drinks we all sat the for around 20 minutes waiting, no apology was made, 2nd round of drinks came in two half’s 20 mins apart so when the barman came to our table we ask if we could order another round of drinks for our guests who had finished before the others, the barman who unfortunately looked a bit simple quickly replied that if we would come to the bar and pay he would give us our drinks, what he should have done it brought our drinks with the card payment machine but no even though he had failed he wouldn’t put himself out, what he should have done is Apollo’s and comped the second round of drinks, poor service, we spent hundreds of pounds in this bar, anyway it’s what I would expect now from a little provincial town

It’s a lively little restaurant and pub in the centre of windermere, we got the soup of the day for £6.95 and the bread was literally the best i’ve ever had. Our server, George Morales, was so kind and he definitely made our experience so much better. It is very nicely decorated with a nice feel!

Visited Windermere for a night, this was right down the road from the train station, the atmosphere was lovely, halloween decorations added a nice touch too. Honestly one of the best coffee’s I’ve ever had, had to go get another before I headed back home. Some may find the prices are on the pricier end as expected of a touristy location, but it was still affordable and worth it. Service was great and the staff were lovely.

Came here yesterday, absolute rip off would not return. Charging £6 for a caramel shortbread!! Rip off. Paid £5 a hot chocolate which was cold and had the tiniest squirt of cream on the top although being described as “luxury”. Rude staff were arrogant and talking amongst themselves, unprofessional. Brown sugar is nice enough. The staff were great, can't fault them but the quality of the food and drink doesn't quite match the prices they're charging. I got a £14 old fashioned and it wasn't great. The whisky was cheap Welsh whisky (could barely taste it) and it tasted super synthetic. My partner was equally disappointed with her £14 drink. The place is never empty to be fair, they've clearly figured out what they can charge, but beware if you're wanting good value.

Great menu options, delicious food, good cocktails, friendly and attentive service. The 2 ladies were working really well to make sure everyone was greeted and well looked after. Carbonara was delicious, as were my friends pizza and hanging kebabs. Will be back.

On arrival thought very calming place ordered steaks medium and got rare very rare but we could cope with that except the steaks were full of sinews we struggled to cut them and we couldn't chew them both plates were left. Told the waiter we couldn't eat them and he apologised and we were offered a cake to take away. £82 for 2 cakes----no thank you

Quite costly, but the portions were good and very tasty

We had a dinner tonight(4th October), service was fine,,but food especially the chips were reheats and my wife's burger was very bland,,the waiter was a bit surprised with my feedback,,anyway certainly won't be back
