Red Dragon Inn in South Lakeland

Love this pub they were extremely busy today but food and service was great. Young lady serving on was very polite and kept checking people were OK waiting because they were so busy. She did s fabulous job even though she was on her own. Would definitely recommend

The waitress was very nice but it took about 30 minutes to wait for 3 drinks which only 2 arrived but flat, were sent back and it took another 20 mins to get any drinks. So we waited about 40 minutes for just drinks. I had to have bottled lemonade because they didn’t get the machine working. Fine we can look past that. The gammon was £17.95, it was OK but pineapple tasted burnt and The ketchup was sour and horrible, chicken piri piri was really not nice, very odd taste. As we aren’t local we weren’t going to bother making a fuss and just pay and go but on paying the manager handed the bill didn’t say ‘everything ok?’ But had the nerve to ask for a tip at the end.

Lovely place I booked a room for 1 night as I was working in the area. Nice room .had food and wine in the evening very nice quality food .I would return back when I’m in the area

Booked as a large group (13 people) and so was requested to pre-order. This was no problem for us. On arrival the manager let us know he would check the order once we were all settled with drinks etc. (which he did). Food arrived soon after and was nice and hot. Portion sizes were great. We ordered a range of meal choices (Sunday roasts, burgers, sweet chilli chicken, kids meals) and no complaints from anyone. Staff were attentive, friendly and made sure we all had everything we needed. Prices were reasonable (around £15-£18 per meal). Toilets were clean. The atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable.

Brilliant Sunday roast dinner! Choice of two meats, seasonal vegetables, Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, parsnips, suede and red cabbage. Staff were very friendly. Would recommend to book in advance as gets booked quickly on a Sunday.

Went in for dinner and were cajoled into entering the quiz which we somehow managed to win- all good fun and played in the right spirit. Standard pub fare is what we expected for the meal but both the moules and frites and fish and chips were good quality and value for money. A homely, unpretentious pub!

Very nice welcome, good beer and wine choice- we wanted food but nothing too big so we each opted for a chicken kebab- it was delicious and served with fries and salad. A good experience all round

Stayed the night with my other half and our two doggies . Absolutely immaculate and food was 10/10 - breakfast and dinner!!! Also special shout out to Sharon who was absolutely amazing- so friendly, nothing was too much trouble and she went out of her way to make our stay extra special . She is a credit to you! Was in the area and thought I would spend the night. Walked into The Red Dragon received a friendly welcome by the young girl behind the bar. Asked if they had any rooms available and how much. It was her first day so she went off to find someone to help me. I ordered some food, which was lovely. The lady in charge came over to have a chat with me. They had one room left for that evening, so I booked it. £80 for B & B. The room was a little dark but clean and tidy with everything and more for your nights stay. I ordered dinner in the evening. I ordered chicken kebab. There was plenty of it and tasted very nice. There is a fair amount of choice on the menu. Bed was comfy, had a great nights sleep. Plenty of choice for breakfast. Would definitely go back again.

My wife booked this place as a birthday treat but unfortunately she was¹ ill on the morning of the visit. When I called to let them know, fully expecting to pay for a late cancellation they kindly offered to move the date at no extra cost. When we finally made it we had a really warm welcome from the lady in charge who I think was called Jo. She worked so hard, always with a smile and nothing was too much trouble. The room was really nice and absolutely spotless and I was glad to see that mugs were provided along with quality tea, coffee and biscuits. We had a great evening meal and the only downside was being spoiled for choice. There seems to be a trend in hotels and pubs to use quality items and the massive full English certainly hit the mark. We had a lovely Sunday lunch and found this pub to be very welcoming with a nice atmosphere. We all had different meals which were of good size portions. I would recommend the roast lamb.

Popped in, last Monday lunchtime, although there were 2 members of staff at the back of the bar, they turned and walked away, without even acknowledging or saying someone will be with us shortly. We waited, as did another customer however as no-one came back to serve us, we just walked out. Terrible customer service, sadly we won't be back and wouldn't recommend

Excellent friendly service. Sunday Roasts were all excellent. As you would expect, they are very popular so probably sell out completely by late afternoon. Thankfully we all had the Roast Beef which was very tender. Would definitely return. Well worth booking your table in advance if you are a bigger group of friends/ family.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stopover at the Red Dragon this week. It’s a great pub with clean and comfortable dog friendly accommodation. Parking was available on the street outside and it was perfectly located in the town centre.

Visited here last weekend for Sunday lunch. The place itself has been refurbished nice and the staff are friendly. The Sunday roast we had was okay but have had better. Nice pub though.

I was personally served a pint of their house lager which was murky brown in colour, unsatisfactory in taste and rather egg-like in smell. Another member of my party had a similar issue with a different draught drink. I have frequented this pub before and had no quarrels prior to this most recent visit. I hope this is a one-off.

Just returned home after a couple of nights staying at the red dragon. We’ve stayed in the area many times but our first time here. This pub/hotel is a little gem! The staff are so hospitable and friendly, they can’t do enough for you and for that we would absolutely return in the future. We had an evening meal here and breakfast on 2 mornings. All meals were fabulous. Tasty, very hot and plenty of choice. The rooms themselves are very modern and really comfy. The bathrooms were a great size, shower was lovely after a long day walking! Location wise; the red dragon is in the heart of this wonderfully charming market town. Great to explore the fabulous countryside and all it has to offer! Thank you for a great weekend!

My wife and I stayed for 3 nights and were very pleased with our room, the staff, service and food. The breakfast was extremely good and a perfect start to day for hiking. We had dinner there one night and the steak and ale pie was really good. The Red Dragon was excellent value for money and I would highly recommend this Inn.

We’ve eaten here twice in last week and the food is very impressive. This place has really come on since it changed hands and whoever is in the kitchen needs a medal. To be fair all the staff are nice and friendly and so accommodating for people with dogs. We spend half the year in Kirkby and have sampled all the Bars and Restaurants but for good value for money this place is very hard to beat.

Great experience all round from the welcoming staff on arrival, a lovely comfy room, through to a great breakfast. Great location of hotel and definitely value of money. Special mention for the lady serving breakfast and dealing with check-out. You are a credit to the Red Dragon. We will be back.

This pub is ideal for a family / couples and dog owners. Lovely, relaxing, friendly place. Great food and real ale - plenty of it - and hot. Menu to suit all. We are a family of four and all enjoyed different meals from the menu - the moules and frites were especially good, as was the gammon, fish and scampi and chips. Spotlessly clean throughout. Lovely decor. Definitely recommend.

Recently stayed here for one night , lovely pub , rooms very nice , lovely breakfast just feel the staff could have been a bit more accommodating when we arrived early and had a meal booked at another place and had no where to put our bags , other wise a lovely stay

We were one of first customers in this Sunday. The roast dinners were lacklustre- the roast potatoes really hit, everything else including gravy was cold. No excuse for that at start of service. One lad on- and there definitely wasn’t a warm welcome. Could be nice but the whole experience was underwhelming.

We returned for a weekend stay at this great pub with warm comfortable rooms. Friendly welcoming staff and good service throughout our stay in all aspects. A special thanks to Sharon for providing first class breakfast service with a smile. Recommended.

we booked a sunday dinner the previous day; upon arrival we were told that there were no sunday dinners left as they had sold them all, despite our booking :(( poor as we were looking forward to it and had been recommended it by other residents. so if you book it literally means nothing, lovely girl was very apologetic and her service was amazing. said it was her last day so they have lost a wonderful staff member. really disappointed to be honest :( forced to get other food which came to a total of £50, which wasn’t what we booked for. asked around but every where else’s in the village was fully booked. last day today and just kind of left the trip on a bad note. i cannot stress enough how nice this young girl was tho, 10/10 service, very personable. i understand mistakes happen and the food we received was very good but after booking a sunday lunch you expect them to reserve a sunday lunch. either way, we recommend the mushroom pasta!!!! which was ridiculously good even tho it wasn’t a sunday dinner :(

Having visited Kirkby Lonsdale throughout my life, the Red Dragon has always been a favourite, but the pub has undergone a fairly extensive refurbishment since we last visited. Sometimes a pub loses its character when it is refurbished, but thankfully this one has been done...

Good food. Good drinks and lovely rooms. A nice place to stay with friendly hosts. All’ausilio a good suggestion for a beer or a whisky.

Second time at the Red Dragon and another good stay. Deluxe doubles are good size, nicely done rooms with comfy big beds and nice breakfast. Bathroom floor could’ve been a little cleaner but other than that would recommend.

We had an excellent evening meal here. Delicious pub food. Friendly and courteous service. Manager was very professional and keen to make sure everything was running smoothly. We definitely don’t recognise any of the last reviewers criticism. There are a lot of tourists around in Kirkby Lonsdale at the moment. Wondering if the last reviewer has got her pubs muddled up? We had almost exactly the same awful experience earlier in the week at a nearby pub were service and food were both dreadful. The Red Lion meal we had really was excellent!

We walked past on saturday at 2050 and wondered why it was closed. Tonight we got our answer. Waited 30 mins for drinks, had to order twice. Waited an hour from ordering for our starters. When they arrived we we're given no cutlery and mine was cold. Mine was taken away. 20 mins later the same plate came back with lettuce leaves hiding the dried food underneath. I complained to the manager who couldn't really care less. He was incomepetant to say the least. He had took our drink order initially and never got our drinks. He said they were busy. 9 tables, 20 people max, with all 20 waiting for drinks, cultery or complaining about the wait and quality of the food. The manager ket making the found bar man fetch all the food, cutlery and apologise while he hid away from the customers and attempted to look busy. Shameful. Main arrived 2hrs in and it was equally as bad. Will never eat or drink here again. Felt so sorry for the young man behind the bar. It's no wonder the place can't retain its staff if there treated like this. Poor food, poor service and shocking management. Avoid and eat else where like the kings head or the royal.

Warm welcoming pub with good cheap accommodation and hearty meals served up at a table in front of a roaring log fire. Ideal for the traveller on a tight budget. Good central location on the main street in Kirkby Lonsdale which is a focal point for travellers starting out or returning from the Lakes and Dales.

Just arrived for a night away to find the Inn closed, we were never informed, DISGRACE. This is no way to run a business Robinsons, hold your head in shame, we will never use your pubs again.

I too booked this hotel back in November- but I booked through Booking.com. The hotel then took full payment, direct from my bank account, on the 13th November. Despite being informed by Booking.com in December that it had been cancelled, no money has been returned to me. All the excuses given to the Groupon customers about how they couldn’t contact you directly really doesn’t apply here- the hotel has my bank details yet will not answer emails/phonecalls from Booking.com and will not supply a refund! I am now stuck without a New Year break and they still have my money! Absolutely disgusting.If the Management are true to their word - please feel free to contact me on here and provide my refund!

We stayed here for a couple night away as we love kirby lonsdaleThis is by far the best place to stay! And we have tried a few hotels and b&bs in the centre. Staff are great..rooms are surprising as they are gorgeous..clean fresh comfy beds. Loved it all! Breakfast was amazing and lots of.choice available.Best stay so far and also the best value;)

Stopped here for lunch the week before Christmas. They were happy for our (well behaved) dog to come in and lie by the fire while we had a drink and ordered lunch. After half an hour lunch still hadn't arrived but we weren't too perturbed because we were watching a Liverpool FC match on the TV. A member of staff came to us unsolicited and apologised profusely for the delay, saying that the order had failed to transfer from the till to the kitchen. Our dog was asleep by the fire, we were warm and cosy, our food arrived 10 minutes later and was delicious. The same member of staff asked if he could provide us with drinks on the house but we declined. When we went to the bar to pay upon leaving they refused to accept payment saying that they were mortified we had to wait for so long. We insisted on paying but they just refused to accept payment. All in all it was just a delightful stop and we would not hesitate to stop by again for lunch in this beautiful village.

Booked an overnight stay middle of January via Groupon as a Christmas gift for my parents. Received an email at lunch time on the 24th December stating that due to technical issues they couldnt fulfil the booking and stating that if I wanted a refund I should email them & they would refer it to Groupon. There was no answer on the phone line so I called Groupon who stated that they were informed by the Red Dragon of the issues but had been assured it would reopen 21st December and so my booking would not be affected. I assured Groupon they were not open and forwarded them a copy of the (not very apologetic) email I received from the Inn. Groupon are now investigating so I need to wait up to 7 days for a refund and am left without a christmas gift for my parents with only a few hours until christmas day. Whilst I understand that these may be unforeseen circumstances I am confused as to why it took Red Dragon so long to advise me of the issues- they were clearly aware of this as per previous reviews from a week ago, why the manager states to a previous reviewer that they are premature in complaining as the inn is due to reopen but then cancels on my booking for mid January and why they feel it's acceptable to notify me in a group email to several other guests disclosing all our personal email addresses without consent. Shocking customer service .. in the future I may suggest contacting your customers by phone, offering alternative dates or even assisting in finding alternative accommodation instead of just closing your doors and not answering the telephone.

Do not buy any Groupon vouchers or any other for that matter as the pub has shut. I was not contacted by anyone from either the pub or Groupon even though both parties were aware it was shut.

It would appear that this pub/hotel has closed. I have two rooms booked in a couple of days via a groupon deal. Groupon are not prepared to acknowledge the pub has closed!!!!!! However a further booking with Booking.com informed me of the closure. Tourist information in Kirkby Lonsdale say they have had people at their door who have turned up to a closed pub/hotel.

Stayed here as part of a groupon deal. We had a great meal as part of the deal. I have the lamb and it was delicious. Room was clean, comfortable and had everything in we needed.

Old, rustic and in the right place. The welcome from Chris is eccentric but 100% useful and warming. Food was a good quality but you have to eat early or eat out. Rooms clean and of good standard. Breakfast sets you up for the day. Overall a gem of a place for just relaxing away form it all. Long term Car parking is only a 100 metres away and sensibly priced, short term outside.

Called in here three times during our break in Kirkby Lonsdale. Sunday lunch was excellent. One of our group was a football fan and they put her team on, brilliant. Really friendly atmosphere. Looking forward to the next visit.

My husband and i stopped here on a groupon deal which was good value for money. we were greeted by very friendly staff and shown to our room which was beautiful and clean ! we had steak meal as part of our deal which was very nice and plentiful. Again all the staff were very attentive. breakfast was good too - all in all a pleasurable stay in the village of kirby longsdale.

At 3.30 to be precise ! Ashamed to say we tried here last , after visiting other establishments that I had been to before . All ( including a cafe) said they didn’t serve food at 3.30 !!!

This inn is in a superb position, handy for town ( it's in the middle) and good for walking and exploring.

Situated in the high street where you can walk to the local shops and cafes. There is no car park so you need to use a nearby payment car park or find a street with no time restrictions. Friendly welcome, efficiently booked in. The room is very nicely done out, tastefully furnished together with ambient lighting. Comfortable bed. Large wall mounted TV. Tea/coffee making facilities with biscuits as well as bottled water. Decent sized en-suite with twin shower over bath. Toiletries provided. Plenty of hot water too. The room was quite and no bar or traffic noise could be heard. There are seven rooms in total al named after local villages.

Not visited here for a while but were wanting a delicious lunch and The Red Dragon is certainly where you’ll be served one !!

We visited The Dragon Inn after a 3 hour hike around Ingleton Waterfalls. We ordered a roast dinner each, We really enjoyed the dinner, it was very tasty and hot.. I’d highly recommend it

Spent 1 night with family and really enjoyed it. Staff and accommodation were very helpful and welcoming, there was entertainment on in the bar in the evening and the location of the hotel is right in the middle of the high street. Kirkby Lonsdale is a beautiful place.

We stayed here for one night,the room was clean and very cosy. Well situated and breakfast was good but service a bit slow. Overall the bed and breakfast was good but the beer (ale) was terrible. Plenty of other places nearby with a good ale though.

We arrived to a warm welcome from the bar staff. Rooms clean and modern. Fab bathroom with power shower. We ate in the evening and breakfast, both good. Inn is central so easy and pleasant to explore this quaint little town. Good walks nearby.

We had a Groupon deal for an overnight stay, steak dinner and breakfast for 2 for £79. Fantastic value , our room was lovely , very clean , comfortable bed and lovely hot shower. Staff were very friendly and helpful, dinner was lovely and couldn’t fault the breakfast either. Beautiful area of the country especially if you are a walker.

We got 2 Sunday roasts and Cumberland sausage with mash, it was fantastic a bit pricy but well worth every penny.

Just home from a weekend stay at this lovely pub. Everything was great from start to finish. Starting off with Chris helping us with where to park the car. He was so friendly as were all the other bar and catering staff. Room was beautiful. Food delicious. Will definitely return. Superb.

Lovely hotel/pub, rooms very cosy and well equiped with all you need for an overnight treat. Its location in the high street is amongst some beautiful buildings, The food for evening meal is home made type food, entertainment was provided in the form of a singer / guitarist. Breakfast was cereals and a full English with tea coffee and toast. A lovely place to stay. Staff were very attentive and made the stay over a pleasure.

Just come back from the red dragon inn. Purchased a groupon voucher excellent value for money. I often find that when you go on a groupon voucher the service is just not quite the same but this was definitely not the case here. All the staff were very friendly and welcoming. Lovely clean modern rooms with spacious bathrooms. The steak meal was excellent As was the breakfast. Would recommend this hotel and are already planning a return visit.

Breakfast was included in the price, again plenty with a full English! The rooms were very spacious and extremely clean. I would definitely stay her again.

We called in on a busy bank holiday Sunday afternoon just for drinks. We were served by a lovely young lady who was friendly and helpful. One of the guys bent over backwards to make sure our staffy had a drink and treats and made a huge fuss of him. We decided to pop back soon after for food and weren't disappointed. The same guy was welcoming again and made sure we were well looked after. The food was really good (although the burger slightly pink so if you prefer it well done then ask) it was quite quick and more importantly hot!! It wasn't necessarily cheap but it was worth it. Would highly recommend to anyone, especially dog owners who want to be welcomed with open arms and would like to thank the staff for great service

Had an evening meal here this week while at Carnforth for four days, there was seven of us including children and the food was excellent and the staff were great with the young ones, will return here soon on our next visit.

Just returned from a 2 night stay at the Red Dragon, We were greeted by Becca who was very polite and very welcoming. We stayed in the Middleton suite which was spotlessly clean and very comfortable the food was lovely and so were all the staff. Will definitely return.

Great place to stay, the rooms are comfortable, decorated to a high standard and well kept.The bathrooms are spotless with fresh towels every day as well as lovely toiletries.

Had one night here in August. Can't fault the place at all- location, room, breakfast and staff where all great. Would definitely stay again.

Had one night here as part of the Groupon deal. What an absolutely beautiful little town. The Red Dragon Inn was fantastic. The room was spotlessly clean and very tastefully decorated. The staff were brilliant. Especially Joe! Very friendly and accommodating.

We went here after getting soaked at the near by ingleton trail. After looking at some of prices charged by the surrounding pub we decided to go for cheap and cheerful. Cant say that it was particularly cheerful more like your regular local however the quality of the beef roast was excellent. The service was okay (they forgot our starter and didnt tell us that they had run out of chocolate ice cream.)

I have to say we had the best garlic mushrooms we've had in ages here and the chips were excellent. Not a bad range of beers either, we will visit again if we return to the area.

Group of 8 went for Sunday lunch. We had beef and chicken and both were excellent with great service.

We stayed at the Red Dragon last weekend. What a fabulous find. Staff were extremely helpful. Food was amazing. Great breakfast. Amazing room. Had live music in the bar which created a great atmosphere. Would recommend to everyone. In a lovely village with several pubs within a few feet. We will be back in October.

What can i say about the red dragon ... i was looking for some were me and my partner could spend a quiet night together thats not to far from home but far enough to not be bothered by the pressures of every day life well we found it ... the staff was so welcoming and friendly , the room was amazing and the food beautiful this place is a hidden treasure that we will definately be visiting again

I visited the Red Dragon yesterday with my husband and friend. We have been coming here once a year for the last 20 odd years and at first when I walked in I was a little dismayed to see that it looked different. There were some TV screens in the bar area and obviously the staff had changed since we went in 2018

We have often visited Kirkby Lonsdale but have never stayed so when we saw on offer for the Red Dragon, we decided to try it for one night. For the price, we half expected a slightly run-down pub with old-fashioned bedrooms but, boy, were we wrong! The pub is cosy and old fashioned and the food superb. Excellent dinner and delicious, freshly cooked English breakfast. Our room was also lovely. Obviously recently refurbished in shades of grey and sage green; large bathroom and comfortable bed. We wished we had booked more than one night and we would certainly go back. In fact, can't wait to go back and explore more of the area.

We called here for a meal and a couple of drinks for my birthday. We took our staffy Iggy as the pub is dog friendly. The staff gave us all a very warm welcome even a bowl of water and biscuits for Iggy. We ordered starters and mains, all of which were delicious. The beers were good too. The same friendly service was offered throughout our visit. I'd definitely recommend this pub for food, drink and friendly service. We'll most certainly be back

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights. The room was lovely and very clean. The food was excellant .The staff both day and night really friendly . It's set in a lovely market town. Would highly recommend. Cant wait to return. We had an amazing time.

An extremely comfortable and quiet room in a beautiful small market town.

We stayed near Kirkby Lonsdale and found the town to be really pleasant with a great mixture of independent shops and restaurants/cafes. The Red Dragon was every inch as good as the reviews the food was excellent, very tasty and huge portions - great value for money. The manager and young lady serving were both really friendly and offered great service but allowed us the time to enjoy our drinks and food. The environment was most pleasant and we enquired about the rooms - if we visit again would definitely visit and would also stay at the Red Lion as the breakfast I’m sure would be fabulous too.
