The Italian Garden Restaurant didn't look the most inviting from the approach through the arch and the rain soaked tables but inside was clean, comfortable and contemporary. We ordered two adult pizzas, one child's and a pasta dish and all were great quality and very tasty. The portions were generous and we ended up taking a whole pizza home. Service was very good (but we were the only diners inside). On top of this the lunchtime deal included a free glass of prosecco and a peroni which made the bill very reasonable. A great lunch.

Enjoyed a lovely cup of tea and a delicious blackcurrant flapjack in the small courtyard that on the afternoon of our visit was the perfect sun trap. Staff were very friendly and the service was prompt. They offer special deals for coffee and cake and tea and traybakes and the prices are very reasonable. Although we didn’t have a full meal we did look at the menu and both the choices and prices looked to be good value and the restaurant itself seemed a relaxed place to eat.

Well worth the trip up the lane next to Barclays Bank. Lovely friendly welcome by the two very busy ladies/ girls/ women running the show. Forgive me but I'm getting on a bit and not sure what is the politically correct term of the month! Great menu so all six of us were well satisfied. We had visited before and were impressed, so good to find the high standard being maintained.

This is a really nice little place and although I go to Kirkby Lonsdale quite regularly, I’d not visited this restaurant before. I went for lunch with a friend and although it was a very busy day we were able to grab one of the last remaining tables. As it was 16.45 we were offered both the lunch time and evening menu to choose from (it goes to evening at 5pm) I had the steak ciabbata it was absolutely delicious steak a perfect medium as asked for. My partner had the ultimate meat feast pizza he said it's the best freshly prepared pizza he has had in a long time. We have visited the Italian garden a few times now and have never been disappointed. Living reasonably near to Kirkby Lonsdale, we have tried most of the eateries in town and both me and my wife agree that this is the friendliest and most welcoming of the lot. We have a toddler and a newborn and the staff have always gone out of their way to make us comfortable, nothing is too much hassle. The food is great too. In particular my wife had a fish dish which she said was brilliant. On a nice evening they have a lovely, quiet courtyard setting which is a bonus. Visited for lunch once too and had a great sandwich. Definitely worth a visit. Thanks.

Stumbled on this place as it is set back a little from the main road. We decided to try it as it had outside seating and we wanted to enjoy the sun. We didn't want a full meal and just opted for a garlic mushroom and bruschetta starter. Omg stunning. Flavours were amazing. We weren't rushed or hurried to finish but even though we were busy we were left to just sit and relax. The courtyard seating accepted dogs and had water bowls available. We saw the other meals coming out and they were of a good size and looked and smelled delicious. We would certainly return .

I recently visited here during a weekend break in Kirkby Lonsdale and I was left extremely disappointed. I tried to book a table for around 8.30-9.00 but was told I could only have a table at 8.00. When I arrived I was asked to sit in the bar until my table was ready which was fairly quick as I was 5/10 mins early. I found the menu to be slightly disappointing and not very Italian inspired despite the name. My order was taken and my starter didn't arrive until around 8.45 which annoyed me slightly as I wanted to book a table later and wasn't able to. (By now the restaurant was almost empty). The garlic bread was lovely but the garlic mushrooms was smothered in pesto - ??? The main courses were a complete disappointment once again the chicken pasta was smothered in pesto, probably to hide the fact that it was tasteless and only two pieces of chicken in the whole dish. The carbonara was all curdled. Rather than a smooth sauce it was all lumpy and separated. No black pepper or Parmesan offered. The portion sizes were decent and the fries were lovely. When letting the staff know how disappointed I was with the meal I didn't receive so much as an apology and they quickly asked us for the money and we left. I would definitely not visit here again. Apart from the appalling food I found that I wasn't treated how all the other customers in the restaurant were. This was my wedding anniversary treat and it was far from it!!!

It was a green drink, presumably having started as a soup but heavily watered down to make it last? Yuk.Sandwiches were nice enough but £18 for two and two coffees was steep, especially as there was no garnish. There was a sign saying 'special leer, drink and cake for £5.95'.I'd say that was pretty expensive personally, oh well, we won't be back

Went for dinner on Saturday evening so disappointed. On entry the place was cold the heating needed turning up a notch. There wasn't many customers my partner and myself plus a table of approximately 10 people. The starters arrived these were lovely (only reason I have given a 2 score otherwise would have been 1) which filled me with excitement about the main course. The mains took an hour to arrive, the table of ten who had ordered before us were still waiting and getting restless. My pasta was very tasteless, my partner commented that his spaghetti was much the same. Sadly we will not return and neither will the table of 10 judging by their comments.

This afternoon, myself, my husband and a friend, decided to call into Kirby Lonsdale for a drink and snack, before continuing home. We usually call in to Number 44, but this afternoon they were full. How glad I am that they were. Tucked away in a little courtyard further up the street is a little gem called the Italian Garden cafe and restaurant. Apart from the staff we were the only people in there. My husband and friend ordered a pot of tea and a slice of chocolate and orange cake. The pot was enough for 2 people 3 cups each and the cake was "yummy". I had a strawberry milkshake and a slice of coffee cake. The milkshake was really thick and made I suspect with real strawberries and crowned with a dollop of whipped cream on the top. The coffee cake was a little dry, but still really tasty. The staff were really friendly and helpful. On investigation of the menu, I can confidently say we'll be back for more than a snack.

Saturday night 645pm booking and I had been pre-advised they had a booking for 15 at 7pm - so food might be a little slower. That's fine and acceptable but then ....we were shown to the table and after 15 minutes I had to wave vigorously to get attention to order a drink. 15 minutes further and drinks arrive. Starters and mains are ordered - nothing complex at all. 15 mins later a wave vigorously to order a bottle of wine - 15 mins later half the starters arrive - after a while we ask where the other starters are and apparently we hadn't ordered them ??? So after a little nudge they started cooking the missing starters and went in search of my previously ordered bottle of wine. Mains followed the same pattern with one missing - with the waitress saying its on its way - and 15 mins later so were we - just as it appeared out of the kitchen The bill was kindly reduced. But ultimately I felt like I was invisible or intruding in the restaurant as there was just no concept of service.Just 2 staff waiting on - I felt sorry for them as they just could not cope and consequently it was just shocking.Btw the food was ok - and as people have pointed out in other reviews the pizza's were pretty good - just a shame that I felt like I would have had more service using an iPhone app. and nipping to the offy.

Good points - excellent massive portion of hake, just-crispy pizzas, and pleasant waiters. Improvements required - more front of house training (replacing cutlery after starters, getting table numbers right, not rushing to get orders in the kitchen when it's quiet), hold higher levels of stock so most of menu is available, and go easy on the chives!

MORE AT TripAdvisor

Slightly off the main street in Kirby Lonsdale is The Italian Garden, a name which is not necessarily boisterous and just a little unassuming...which is its only flaw. This place needs to sing its own praises a little louder...because it would be entirely justified. Sporting a dozen or so tables of various sizes, it borders on the edge of being intimate but not so much to make it 'couples only' environment. A good mix of cosy but open...and an atmosphere which means you don't have to whisper to avoid being eavesdropped...and you don't have to shout to make yourself heard. Forget flash decor, its nice but simple...you're here to eat...and it excels at that. You are not going to get fine dinning, but its far far better than the 'high street Italians'. Authentic Italian is what this is...flavour, aroma and texture. The presentation is good but its also deceptive...the moment you taste it then you know there is another level. A specials board has some additional dishes, starters mains deserts. From this we picked Figs stuffed with blue cheese wrapped in parma ham to begin....delicious. Main, my wife had King prawn and Scallop ravioli, and I had Hake in parma ham on a bed of crushed potatoes, sunblush tomato caper and black olive Tapanade. I would have loved to have tried other offerings but we are not greedy...though it was a tough call. Best restaurant meal I have had this year. To say that I enjoyed this food would be an understatement - which is why I think they need to make more of a fanfare of their name. You want pizza? they do it, you want pasta? they do it. Its an Italian, of course they would. Bet they make a fine job of it too. But have a look at what else on on the menu/specials...explore! We ate here on a Thursday evening, relatively quiet, half occupied about 20.15. Two starters, two mains and two drinks each (large glasses of wine and pints of draught beer) cost around £30 a head. Expensive? Quality - you betcha! Enjoyment - totally!

Popped in to check this place out got chatting to the owners who gave us free samples of wine and beer to taste. Unfortunately we didn't manage to get to eat here this time round but will definitely try it out on our next visit

We have visited Italian Garden several times and always enjoyed the food. This visit the food was, as ever, wonderful - asparagus special starter was devine. This visit was made extra special by the great service. Our greeting on entering was lovely and made us feel very welcome. We were served by a lovely young man working the summer before university and he was excellent. Very attentive, helpful and prompt with his service. His first ever attempt at a liquor coffee was a great success. Will definitely be back.

Visited Yorkshire Dales for 4 days this summer. We ate at this restaurant on the first night. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Good menu choice and interior along with specials. The food is absolutely delicious, and the pizzas - well I've had a lot of pizzas, and this was one of, if not, the best I've ever had. The bases are thin and crispy and the toppings taste so good. The fries are also very tasty. Our waiters were checking regularly to ask if we were ok or needed anything. We loved it so much, we visited again during our stay. We were recognised and given a warm welcome, and I went for a pizza again - it was as good as the last one! For desert, I asked for tiramasu. They apologised that they had none left, but then amazingly came back and said they could do it. Compliments to the chef there! I fully recommend this eatery to anyone visiting Kirkby Lonsdale; Trust me, it won't disappoint!

We sat in the courtyard on Friday afternoon in the lovely sunshine after a little walk around KL. We ordered a Sauvignon Blanc and a pint of beer only to be told they didn't have that wine. I therefore changed it to a Merlot no problem. There was one member of staff at the front of house and the place soon became busy. We sat and chatted and ordered a fish platter, and a chicken and pancetta salad along with another pint of beer and a merlot. The beer had now run out so my partner had to swap for a bottle of peroni, again, fine, m but when the ANTIPASTI platter and the chicken (few strips) and STREAKY BACON 'salad' turned up that really took the biscuit. We didn't have the heart to complain as the poor waiter seemed very stretched, kept apologising for the wait and I just felt sorry for him. Food was ok but I wished I'd gone somewhere else. What a shame.

Visited the area and wanted some lunch, found this little place down a small alley off the Main Street. We ate simply having a prawn sandwich and club sandwich plus a couple of drinks. It was a hot day so we sat outside in a quaint little courtyard. The cafe doubles as a restaurant at night and the menu and venue looked reasonable and a lovely place to go in the evening. Lunch was probably slightly more than I would have liked however the venue and atmosphere did make it. £19 for 2 sandwiches and 2 drinks.

We had been doing the coast walk so didn't get to the restaurant until 40 minutes after we had booked a table. In fact very late. We were not rushed at all and the food we all had was excellent. All decided on something different just to make it more awkward but this was met with smiles. Very friendly staff. Possibly helped that 2 of the party were stunning women!! I had been here previously in April and it was just as good then also

popped in whilst shopping in K.L., looked rather quiet and as we didn't have long left on our car parking, we sat down and chose our lunch. The waiter ( only member of staff we saw) was busy fiddling around with coffee cups, making coffees and throwing it away, banging the coffee grounds measure.. completely ignored. We waited about ten minutes and had to leave, as we did he said 'oh I'll be over...' Too late. Greet your customers and at least say something, never ignore a customer.

After an afternoon climbing we headed over to Kirkby Lonsdale looking for a cafe ,but it was 5pm on a Sunday afternoon and the only things open in the square were the pubs ... Normally not a problem but we had 2 children in tow. Anyway we parked up and explored and stumbled over the Italian Garden . So glad we did . I had a Coffee and Antipasto for 1 , hubby had a cream tea and the smalls both had something of the children's menu . Clean plates all round and when asked if she wanted a dessert my daughter asked if she could have another bowl of Pasta as the tomato sauce was so yummy . We will definitely be back as it's such a lovely friendly place with wonderful food .

What a fantastic find. We stumbled across this lovely little place in the morning when we were looking for a coffee and went back in the evening because it was so good. It's in a courtyard off the Main Street next to Barclays Bank. Illy coffee made how you like it. Just make your preference for strong or not so known. Palms and umbrellas (and fortunately sunshine when we visited) made the outside area a little haven of relaxation. Our dog, Charley was given fresh water too. In the evening, we went back (with Charley) and had one of the best Italian meals we've ever had outside Italy. Fresh and simple are the key words. Just delicious. The Tiramisu was exceptional. ..so light. The owner was front of house today and nothing was too much trouble. It was a delight to be in his company.Well done. Highly recommended.

Great freshly prepared food, super staff, and an owner who clearly loves all that he does there. We were welcomed late in the evening after struggling to find somewhere to eat with dogs in our party, by such friendly staff. The food was really delicious, and a great selection of pizzas, pastas and main dishes. Gluten-free was very well catered for too.

Having completed the Yorkshire Three Peak Challenge, we all really fancied pasta for our dinner. The entire party of 7 descended upon Kirkby Lonsdale in search of a dish. Despite being extremely short staffed The Italian Garden seated us and provided an amazing night out. We all customised our orders and this was not an issue for the restaurant. Nothing was too much even though you could see they were busy and rushed off their feet. The food was lovely and whilst some dishes where better than other (personal taste I guess) everything was well received. My only criticism is that the CD was on repeat...but as they had minimal (and I mean minimal) amount of staff I guess everyone was too busy to change it.

We arrived and were Greeted with "hold on a sec" but when we were seen to we sat outside in the pleasant evening in the cute outside seating area. This was the only good experience of the meal, our drinks came after ten minutes, which were then watery and we had to send them back. When the pizza came it was cooked well and looked tasty but it was flavourless however I did eat it all because I was hungry. For £60 it was not worth another visit.

Overall, the food was underwhelming. Burned pizza, flavourless topping and even bad drinks to start. Would not recommend and neither would many people judging by how quiet the restaurant was in relation to its neighbours.

So to start off this tasteless experience, we purchased a voucher from bay vouchers after coming here for lunch a couple of months ago and enjoying it. I happily booked a table for 6pm to arrive on time to be "greeted" by someone unsure if they were serving food and could not even say hi. Finally found our reservation to his his shock that it want actually 3pm to be seated at a table that wasn't even ready for us. Our drinks order was eventually taken to be told two of the five mains on the menu weren't available along with the draught lager which was hugely disappointing. Starters arrived which were basic but done well, however the main course followed after a long wait and did not live up to the starter as much of the food was tasteless and was not worth it's wait. The waiter did realise this with our garlic bread and refunded us for the bread but our experience had already been ruined.

Started with a warm welcome. Service excellent and friendly. Good atmosphere. Meal of Garlic bread and Calamari to start, linguine with King prawns and crab ( pleasantly spicy and full of flavour), hake wrapped in Parma ham served with crushed potato, followed by Strawberry pavlova and almond based tart. The standard of food was, without exception, superb. We both had a great evening and would highly recommend The Italian Garden Restaurant.

We stopped for a quiet break from exploring the area. A tucked away garden location would be ideal on a sunny day but we enjoyed the subtle decor inside. The increasingly rare occasiont to be served, quickly and quietly with perfect coffee and a fascinating mallow cake. Too many establishments think we need noise, music and garish walls. Sorry not to be available to return for a mea as the menu looked tasty.

Me and my Friend travelled 18 miles south of home to experience the lovely place that is Kirkby Lonsdale feeling peckish we stumbled across 'The Italian Garden' when we arrived there wasn't a smile in sight. It felt like the two female staff members didn't want to know us, they asked for the money upfront in a rude manner, the food was average but I left feeling dissatisfied and annoyed having spent £16 on a Pizza and a pint. Serious staff issues for such a quirky Italian.

Popped in early evening for a quick meal before the journey home. The restaurant is accessed via a quaint alley with tables sited outside, I would think ideal for late spring and summer, but a little chilly when we visited. Anyway we entered and met by a very pleasant front of house. We were shown to a table and left with the menu and our took drinks order was taken. Staff reappeared at just the right time to take our order, the food arrived, again just at the right time. Both meals were well presented and were excellent. Pity we had to leave so soon but will be back. Overall a very pleasant meal, restaurant and value for money.

I normally only post complimentary TA reviews, however.... On a pleasant day with the sun shining brightly, this courtyard Cafe Restaurant looked inviting from the street as we passed by the entry. Seeing that they ran Lavazza Coffee we went into the courtyard which was indeed a pleasant little oasis. However thereon the experience became increasingly less than pleasant. We sat down at a table for two which had clearly not been cleared properly after the previous occupants, although the crockery etc. had been removed, there was a considerable amount of an uninviting looking spillage on the table, it had clearly not been wiped down/sanitized. We waited some minutes, it seemed ages, for someone to maybe clean the table down and take our order . Then we noticed a small placard saying "Take a note of your table number and order inside" , my wife went inside to place our order but she was told that someone will come out to the table and take the order....we waited for ages again and still no attention outside. Some other people who came in ten minutes after us also waited for service and then noticed the placard and someone got up and went inside, being seated near the cafe doorway we could hear their order being taken....that was was enough for us and we left, never again !

The place lacked some atmostphere as there were only three tables occupied. Such a shame as it has great potential.

Looking for morning coffee and perhaps a light brunch found the Italian Garden which is located in an enclosed courtyard off the main street.Perfect we thought as the sun was shining and the courtyard a real sun trap. We ordered from the menu - scrambled egg on toast and a sausage bap. Had to wait a little while but thought 'this will be good'. To our surprise we were presented with very overcooked scrambled egg which was grainy and in a sandwich. The sausage came also in a sandwich,(not a bap)the bread of which was soggy.Spoke to the waiter/owner who agreed it was not satisfactory, stating he would not have served it had he realised!!! Money refunded. What .a pity
