The worst restaurant experience of my life with food poisoning and excruciating waiting times.. The owners had left their kids to manage the restaurant at a weekend whilst away on holiday. The staff consisted of a young inexperienced waiter and waitress and a slightly older guy acting as manager. 30mins to receive drinks. Then a further 45mins for starter.. then a further hour for main, then luckily we had no option for dessert as they ran out. They constantly apologised and gave us excuses like above.. being understaffed, unexperienced etc. It was painful to listen to as they offered each table different excuses and apologies. We returned to our campsite and fell ill very quickly. The following Monday I called to speak to a manager and was promised a call back. They called me back to hear what happened and promised they would get back in touch. I expected perhaps an apology to fully or maybe a refund as I was given food poisoning from their food which ruined the next day or two of my 3 day holiday. I never heard a thing again. Simply shocking, definitely to be avoided. I'm sorry this family are clearly struggling to run a successful restaurant but you cannot go making tourists ill and leaving your kids to deal with it whilst enjoying your own holiday. Sadly I'll never return to what I thought would be Kirkby Lonsdale's only nice Italian restaurant. I've grown up visiting the area but will never return to this place again, obviously!

The Italian Garden Restaurant didn't look the most inviting from the approach through the arch and the rain soaked tables but inside was clean, comfortable and contemporary. We ordered two adult pizzas, one child's and a pasta dish and all were great quality and very tasty. The portions were generous and we ended up taking a whole pizza home. Service was very good (but we were the only diners inside). On top of this the lunchtime deal included a free glass of prosecco and a peroni which made the bill very reasonable. A great lunch.

Enjoyed a lovely cup of tea and a delicious blackcurrant flapjack in the small courtyard that on the afternoon of our visit was the perfect sun trap. Staff were very friendly and the service was prompt. They offer special deals for coffee and cake and tea and traybakes and the prices are very reasonable. Although we didn’t have a full meal we did look at the menu and both the choices and prices looked to be good value and the restaurant itself seemed a relaxed place to eat.

Disappointing and overpriced!! Service was very slow, and I had to approach the waitress twice as she did not check whether everything was ok with the food, and whether we wanted extra sauces etc......the ambience was awful....it was so quiet that it verged on alkward....it needs low music or something......and there was no card payment facility so we had to go to the cash point....it would have been more convenient if this was pointed out prior to purchasing food. Above all it was over priced, and the food was very basic. Would not return here.

We have visited the Italian garden a few times now and have never been disappointed. Living reasonably near to Kirkby Lonsdale, we have tried most of the eateries in town and both me and my wife agree that this is the friendliest and most welcoming of the lot. We have a toddler and a newborn and the staff have always gone out of their way to make us comfortable, nothing is too much hassle. The food is great too. In particular my wife had a fish dish which she said was brilliant. On a nice evening they have a lovely, quiet courtyard setting which is a bonus. Visited for lunch once too and had a great sandwich. Definitely worth a visit. Thanks.

Stumbled on this place as it is set back a little from the main road. We decided to try it as it had outside seating and we wanted to enjoy the sun. We didn't want a full meal and just opted for a garlic mushroom and bruschetta starter. Omg stunning. Flavours were amazing. We weren't rushed or hurried to finish but even though we were busy we were left to just sit and relax. The courtyard seating accepted dogs and had water bowls available. We saw the other meals coming out and they were of a good size and looked and smelled delicious. We would certainly return .

I recently visited here during a weekend break in Kirkby Lonsdale and I was left extremely disappointed. I tried to book a table for around 8.30-9.00 but was told I could only have a table at 8.00. When I arrived I was asked to sit in the bar until my table was ready which was fairly quick as I was 5/10 mins early. I found the menu to be slightly disappointing and not very Italian inspired despite the name. My order was taken and my starter didn't arrive until around 8.45 which annoyed me slightly as I wanted to book a table later and wasn't able to. (By now the restaurant was almost empty). The garlic bread was lovely but the garlic mushrooms was smothered in pesto - ??? The main courses were a complete disappointment once again the chicken pasta was smothered in pesto, probably to hide the fact that it was tasteless and only two pieces of chicken in the whole dish. The carbonara was all curdled. Rather than a smooth sauce it was all lumpy and separated. No black pepper or Parmesan offered. The portion sizes were decent and the fries were lovely. When letting the staff know how disappointed I was with the meal I didn't receive so much as an apology and they quickly asked us for the money and we left. I would definitely not visit here again. Apart from the appalling food I found that I wasn't treated how all the other customers in the restaurant were. This was my wedding anniversary treat and it was far from it!!!

We ate here as it was the only place in town with empty seats... the service was good but the food was so expensive! £19.95 for an antipasto platter consisting of 15 slices of salami, a few slices of cheap mozzarella, tomato and a tiny bit of bread. We were shocked! I wouldn't even expect to pay that in a top restaurant. The coffee is also served in very small cups which makes it quite pricey if you order a regular size. I felt embarrassed to complain as the waiter didn't really seem to know why we weren't happy. Left hungry and down £30. Won't be back!

It was a green drink, presumably having started as a soup but heavily watered down to make it last? Yuk.Sandwiches were nice enough but £18 for two and two coffees was steep, especially as there was no garnish. There was a sign saying 'special leer, drink and cake for £5.95'.I'd say that was pretty expensive personally, oh well, we won't be back

Went for dinner on Saturday evening so disappointed. On entry the place was cold the heating needed turning up a notch. There wasn't many customers my partner and myself plus a table of approximately 10 people. The starters arrived these were lovely (only reason I have given a 2 score otherwise would have been 1) which filled me with excitement about the main course. The mains took an hour to arrive, the table of ten who had ordered before us were still waiting and getting restless. My pasta was very tasteless, my partner commented that his spaghetti was much the same. Sadly we will not return and neither will the table of 10 judging by their comments.

This afternoon, myself, my husband and a friend, decided to call into Kirby Lonsdale for a drink and snack, before continuing home. We usually call in to Number 44, but this afternoon they were full. How glad I am that they were. Tucked away in a little courtyard further up the street is a little gem called the Italian Garden cafe and restaurant. Apart from the staff we were the only people in there. My husband and friend ordered a pot of tea and a slice of chocolate and orange cake. The pot was enough for 2 people 3 cups each and the cake was "yummy". I had a strawberry milkshake and a slice of coffee cake. The milkshake was really thick and made I suspect with real strawberries and crowned with a dollop of whipped cream on the top. The coffee cake was a little dry, but still really tasty. The staff were really friendly and helpful. On investigation of the menu, I can confidently say we'll be back for more than a snack.

Saturday night 645pm booking and I had been pre-advised they had a booking for 15 at 7pm - so food might be a little slower. That's fine and acceptable but then ....we were shown to the table and after 15 minutes I had to wave vigorously to get attention to order a drink. 15 minutes further and drinks arrive. Starters and mains are ordered - nothing complex at all. 15 mins later a wave vigorously to order a bottle of wine - 15 mins later half the starters arrive - after a while we ask where the other starters are and apparently we hadn't ordered them ??? So after a little nudge they started cooking the missing starters and went in search of my previously ordered bottle of wine. Mains followed the same pattern with one missing - with the waitress saying its on its way - and 15 mins later so were we - just as it appeared out of the kitchen The bill was kindly reduced. But ultimately I felt like I was invisible or intruding in the restaurant as there was just no concept of service.Just 2 staff waiting on - I felt sorry for them as they just could not cope and consequently it was just shocking.Btw the food was ok - and as people have pointed out in other reviews the pizza's were pretty good - just a shame that I felt like I would have had more service using an iPhone app. and nipping to the offy.

Nice range of soft drinks (fizzy orange not available), and daily specials menu (one dish not available). Later it was desserts (5 dishes, only 3 available). You get the picture. Good points - excellent massive portion of hake, just-crispy pizzas, and pleasant waiters. Improvements required - more front of house training (replacing cutlery after starters, getting table numbers right, not rushing to get orders in the kitchen when it's quiet), hold higher levels of stock so most of menu is available, and go easy on the chives!

Great restaurant, very family friendly. We stopped in during a long journey. Warm welcome for us and our 6 & 4 yr olds. Kids menu good choices, our kids had pizza style garlic bread, home made chicken goujons n fries & tomato pasta n cheese. The adult pizza n pasta was delicious as were the starters. Great deserts too! Definitely returning when we next pass.

Slightly off the main street in Kirby Lonsdale is The Italian Garden, a name which is not necessarily boisterous and just a little unassuming...which is its only flaw. This place needs to sing its own praises a little louder...because it would be entirely justified. Sporting a dozen or so tables of various sizes, it borders on the edge of being intimate but not so much to make it 'couples only' environment. A good mix of cosy but open...and an atmosphere which means you don't have to whisper to avoid being eavesdropped...and you don't have to shout to make yourself heard. Forget flash decor, its nice but simple...you're here to eat...and it excels at that. You are not going to get fine dinning, but its far far better than the 'high street Italians'. Authentic Italian is what this is...flavour, aroma and texture. The presentation is good but its also deceptive...the moment you taste it then you know there is another level. A specials board has some additional dishes, starters mains deserts. From this we picked Figs stuffed with blue cheese wrapped in parma ham to begin....delicious. Main, my wife had King prawn and Scallop ravioli, and I had Hake in parma ham on a bed of crushed potatoes, sunblush tomato caper and black olive Tapanade. I would have loved to have tried other offerings but we are not greedy...though it was a tough call. Best restaurant meal I have had this year. To say that I enjoyed this food would be an understatement - which is why I think they need to make more of a fanfare of their name. You want pizza? they do it, you want pasta? they do it. Its an Italian, of course they would. Bet they make a fine job of it too. But have a look at what else on on the menu/specials...explore! We ate here on a Thursday evening, relatively quiet, half occupied about 20.15. Two starters, two mains and two drinks each (large glasses of wine and pints of draught beer) cost around £30 a head. Expensive? Quality - you betcha! Enjoyment - totally!

Visited on Sunday 7th August as a couple of returning holiday makers out for an evening meal. I selected from the specials board and had baked figs stuffed with blue cheese and wrapped in Parma ham followed by lobster ravioli with shrimp lemon butter sauce. Both were absolutely delicious. Dave had a goat's cheese starter and a chicken pasta dish. He was very happy with his choices. The quality of food and service had not diminished over a year. You will not be disappointed and we will visit again next time we are in the area.

My daughter and I visited this place yesterday and what lovely people, nothing was too much even spicing up my daughters pizza to her taste. The garlic bread we shared with cheese on was really tasty and we didn't have much room left for our main course pizzas but a doggy bag was soon provided. Friendly helpful staff with lovely cuisine it's well worth a visit

Disappointing, too long before food came. We're serving people who didn't have booking before us. Spent evening listening to them apologise all the time very negative. Food was good. Had a word with man in charge, they need to be more organised.

We went here on Saturday lunch time. It was super busy and I think the weather may have caught them out a little. It was roasting hot which if you've been to Kirkby before you'll know if it's not raining, it's generally raining!!!. everyone wanted to sit outside naturally and it was packed. This slowed things down a little, which we were warned about when ordering. Staff were all friendly and helpful even though they were under a lot of pressure. We had sandwiches from the menu and everyone throughly enjoyed the food. Would go back again.

Very poor service. Food took a long time and then one had to be sent back as it was cold. Having to sit next to a staff member hand drying glasses on the next table was inappropriate.

We took our friend here not knowing how fussy an eater she was. But the staff were very good, the owner basically asked her what she wanted and ammended the order to suit. Service was prompt friendly and efficient it was just a lovely meal. The Hake goujon starter was great with a good selection of fish, pasta, pizza, or meat dishes to choose from with a selection of wine or beers to suit everyone. Well done a fabulous night.

Popped in to check this place out got chatting to the owners who gave us free samples of wine and beer to taste. Unfortunately we didn't manage to get to eat here this time round but will definitely try it out on our next visit

We were staying locally and had dinner at The Italian Garden. The food was excellent, a good selection on the menu and very reasonably priced. The staff were very friendly and efficient. We would definitely recommend having a meal at the Italian Garden and if in the area would eat there again.

We have visited Italian Garden several times and always enjoyed the food. This visit the food was, as ever, wonderful - asparagus special starter was devine. This visit was made extra special by the great service. Our greeting on entering was lovely and made us feel very welcome. We were served by a lovely young man working the summer before university and he was excellent. Very attentive, helpful and prompt with his service. His first ever attempt at a liquor coffee was a great success. Will definitely be back.

Absolutely divine! One of the best sticky toffee puddings I’ve ever tasted, nestled in the heart of the Lakes. Perfectly moist, rich, and indulgent, it was a dessert to remember. The cherry on top? All for the unbelievable price of just £5.95. I paired it with a freshly brewed coffee made by professional barista staff. A hidden gem and an unbeatable treat.
