Betulla's in South Lakeland

I ordered from Ulverston Eats. They unexpectedly cancelled my order and closed the takeaway option. Poor.

Waited for food for 1hour 10 minutes from ordering. Apparently the chef had dropped down tools and left. Nobody came to talk to us, offer us a drink or explain. The food only came when we said we were leaving. When it came it was terrible. Burnt pizzas, terrible tasteless pasta. They would not deduct anything. Why couldn’t they offer us something. Garlic bread all round or a drink on the house. Not coming back, this place is shocking. I understand incidents happen, but talk to your customers.

Not the best experience. The food was not hot. Some of the staff were quite hostile and the table was awful- sat in front of a wall in the corner.

We didn’t eat there yet. What happened. We tried calling a few times to check availability and for reservation, no one answered. Then we decided to go there and were turned back as they said they are fully booked. 1/ if you are selling Pizzas you shouldn’t be turning down people. 2/ if you are fully booked you should put a sign outside the restaurant that you are booked for tonight so one doesn’t have to face the embarrassment of being turned back. 3/ you can put a note on your digital accounts that shows your status. We certainly didn’t expect that and specially Pizza Places aren’t supposed to turn people back. The whole purpose of having pizza is to be sure you are going to get it. This is a review after having had some of the most authentic Pizzas in Italy during my 2 dozen trips to the southern part of the country. Please answer your phones as well. BR Farrukh Shehzad

Lovely restaurant with really tasty food. Just moved to the area although spent some time here before. First time trying Betulla’s. Sat at back of restaurant and it was a busy night….good atmosphere. Service was very good and didn’t have to wait for anything. Food was really tasty and my daughter loved her pizza and chocolate brownie. My prawn tagliatelle was amazing. Room for improvement in cocktail and tiramisu (I am a connoisseur) was a little bit heavy. All in all a great place to eat in Ulverston…..we will definitely return!!

It was soggy and luck warm and looked like the peperone had been thrown on last minute. Tried the Tiramisu, it was ok, the cream layer was extremely thick and heavy. Sadly it looked better than it tasted, I will not be going back. £45 for a child's pizza, adult pizza, 1 desert, Cosmo and orange juice. Price wise ok in general I suppose had it been up to standard and we had not been left in the dungeon.

Lovely restaurant very spacious inside so you don’t feel all crammed together. The food was lovely everyone enjoyed their meals, two of us had pasta and one had a pizza absolutely delicious. Little bit of a wait to get served but it was very busy and definitely worth the wait. The service was great too will definitely be back. Only thing to note is you can’t add a tip onto a card payment I didn’t know this and had no cash on me for a tip.

We came last week for dinner (table of 2) we usually love this place for date nights, but this time we where very disappointed. We ordered 2 starters 2 mains and 2 drinks which came out around £60. The chicken was bland, soggy and very thick for a parmigiana The pizza was very thick with tomato sauce and not very nice. We don't think we will be returning, we where very disappointed after out previous experiences here

Tried to make a booking online unable to register my card to reserve then when I called was told they were fully booked.

Have been visiting here for years even before it switched owners, the standard has stayed consistent serving delicious food with warm & attentive service. Highly recommend.

Best pasta I've had in a long time absolutely superb. Lovely staff lovely place. The lady who i paid couldn't take a tip because I was paying by card and I had no money on me

Lovely little place. Great atmosphere. Place was busy which is great to see for a local restaurant. The food portions were great and the food tasted amazing. Would definitely recommend.

Betullas is a beautifully designed restaurant in the heart of Ulverston. Unfortunately in my opinion the restaurant has gone down hill in the last 6 months and has lost its sparkle. Over two separate occasions they couldn’t provide a ‘homemade tiramisu’ in an Italian restaurant and wasn’t able to provide any coffee due to the coffee machine being broken. Additionally they wasn’t able to provide certain items on the menu even just after opening the restaurant. The restaurant used to provide high quality meals with lots of great selection but really has lots its touch and wouldn’t be rushing back any time soon. It seems like every time I go there they have a brand new set of staff and seems things are not settled causing an imbalance in the restaurant. Hopefully they can work on these changes and be back to the standards they once was at.

What a lovely restaurant Betulla's is. Really bustling when we got there. Excellent menu with plenty of vegan options. The 'Cheese' garlic bread was fantastic the best Mrs Cheddarwasp and I had ever tasted. We opted for the Penne Arabiata and the Spaghetti Aglio e Olio both absolutely gorgeous. The staff were really helpful in investigating which wines were suitable for vegans, and were ready with the information when we arrived which, was brilliant. A favourite restaurant of ours in Ulverston we hope to see you all again very soon. Cheers!!

A great place to relax with friend or family for a lip smacking choice of italian cuisine. I have tasted the food, drank the wine and all great in that front. The place and atmosphere is also pleasant with a great host too.

Very disappointed that my call wasn't returned today 13th March . I came to your restaurant at 5.00pm ( as per my booking request) to be greeted by a VERY rude member of staff. No tables available. Why do you have the option to book via phone if nobody answers the phone or checks messages? Can your business afford to lose the custom of 4 guests? Angela Pennington

First visit here and everything was excellent, will visit again next time in Ulverston.

We picked this restaurant because of the reviews. It got off to a rocky start. We arrived 15 mins early - which was our fault but we thought we’d see if they could seat us early. We entered and waited, and waited, and waited - 3 members of staff looked at us several times. We were on the point of walking out when a young lady came over. I explained that we were early - by now 9 mins- she was very abrupt and said they couldn’t seat us and could we come back in 10 mins. We came back and the lady that served us (not the same one that was rude) was lovely. The food was ok too. Not sure we would return. First impressions count!

Have eaten here a lot of times before & has always been really good . This time - definitely not . The restaurant was freezing cold - people eating with their outdoor coats on cold ! The carbonara was so salty I couldn’t eat it . I did ask the waitress about this but she said it was the bacon used so even if they remade it , it would be the same ! Not an enjoyable meal & carbonara is usually my go to favourite .

Booked a table if 8 in advance, very busy. Seated quickly and menus provided. Ordered the garlic breads lovely thin, crispy base and a few starters which were hot and tasty, the chilli jam was very spicy. Mains included home made lasagne, spicy chicken pasta and pizzas all delicious. I ordered the carbonara filled with bacon and in a creamy sauce this was nice but overpowered by garlic so not to my taste. The ordered deserts looked lovely. There was a delay with ordering more drinks but the staff were busy and this was easily rectified. Would recommend a visit, book prior to coming

Absolutely loved the Al forno and the cheesy garlic bread was to die for, the young staff were very professional and attentive. I would definitely recommend this restaurant ❤️x

Great little place for pasta. Quick service and happy hour prices.

Great food. Best lasagna I’ve ever had, I’m a regular foodie. Constantly trying new places and quite simply this was the best lasagna I’ve had. Filled to the brim, came piping hot, loads of cheese, loads of mince and absolutely loads of flavour. Came with 4 slices of lovely garlicky garlic bread too. Proper, fresh, hot, soft pizza dough,m and not that frozen baguette rubbish you often get. Boyfriend had GF ham and pineapple pizza (well bacon and pineapple). That came on a sourdough base and again it’s one of the best pizzas I’ve seen. Normally GF are soggy and don’t have much filling but this came packed and was delicious so I was told! Nice accessible pay and display car park round the corner too. Only negative is please sort your menu out. The layout is just a mess! Good range of food and starters though.

Betullas you excelled once again! We were a last minute booking and last in the restaurant and you still asked if we would like desert! Beautiful food as usual and the crispy garlic bread in the side of the lasagne was a lovely touch! Great staff!! Thank you for a special meal!

Very disappointed, waited over an hour for meals unfortunately 1 meal wasn't hot and one meal we had to wait extra for so everyone was already midway through their meal. Portion size poor for £15 as it was only pasta. Waiting staff managed really well with situation and we're clearly embarrassed. Sadly wouldn't recommend

On reading the reviews I decided it was best to book a table and this proved to be advisable as it was very busy. On entering it was very hot and busy. I had asked for a quiet table and this was provided, however it was Table 11 which meant waitresses going behind you to get crockery etc and diners using the facilities. The chairs were a bit low for me and seemed to skid quite easily, however they were comfortable enough. The service and food was excellent. We were looked after by a couple of waiting staff, all very polite and helpful. The drinks order was taken first, hubby had a non-alcholic beer, our friend had an Appletizer and I asked for a GLASS of dry white wine, unfortunately however as it was so noisy that waitress must have misheard and a bottle with three glasses arrived. However when we pointed this out, no problem, the waiter was very apologetic and just took them away and came back with the correct order. We were there for a celebratory meal. We decided to have starters and opted for the sharing platter of what was really a sort of charcuterie platter. All very nice, but quite large for a starter. For our main courses my husband had the Homemade Lasagne and I opted for the Milano Betulla's (a chicken, mushroom, onion and pasta dish). Both were delicious. I don't usually opt for anything with onion in it, but this was good, just enough onion to give it crunch and flavour but not too much. My only comment is that the portions were HUGE. Personally I would have preferred to have had half the portion with a small salad to accompany them. I had to leave half of mine. Our friend opted for one of their pizzas. This was a good size and he said it was one of the best pizzas he had ever had. Hubby and friend decided to go for a dessert, of the cheesecake of the day. They said it was nice but way to chocolatey for them. I was too full but needed something to cool me so had a dish that had ice cream where you poured espresso coffee over it and that did help with the digestion. All in all a very pleasant experience and I would recommend, but would advise booking, especially during the holiday seasons.

Nice little quaint Italian restaurant nestled in the heart of Ulverston. Food was delicious with generous portions. Friendly and accommodating staff. Definitely recommend. Book early as does get really busy due to being popular.

We had a lovely meal at Betulla’s last night. I was pleasantly surprised by the number of vegan options! There were a couple of vegan pasta dishes, and the cheese could be swapped out for vegan cheese on the pizzas. The food and drinks were lovely, as were the staff and the atmosphere.

Booked a table online turned up and they where fully booked and no tables reversed for us?

We have visited Betulla's quite a few times now and it never disappoints. There is a good choice of food and drinks, the staff are always very attentive despite how busy it gets and the food is excellent in taste and quality. There's a reason it's always fully booked on a weekend. Highly recommend the Pasta Della casa and homemade tiramisu!

We are on holiday and walked past here yesterday. So many people it had to be good. The service , food and drinks were excellent Special mention to the Sticky toffee pudding.. the best my husband ever tasted The wine was an excellent choice too. We had the Primitivo Amazing Definitely recommend here 👌

A thoroughly enjoyable and delicious experience 😋 Dining alone can sometimes feel like your at McDonald’s with restaurants wanting to get you in and out as quick as possible so they can get more bums on seats, not at Betulla’s I was served promptly on arrival but then given the extra time needed between courses and not rushed. I had the arancini starter and the walnut and spinach tagliatelle for my main which were both delicious with good portion size. As a side I had the rosemary and seasalt garlic bread. I was unable to finish it all and the waitress kindly packaged up the remainder for me to take away. I can highly recommend Bettulla’s both the food and excellent service I received and look forward to being in the area next time so I can visit again. Thank you 😊 🇮🇹🍝

Had a lovely evening meal on Tuesday . We did the happy hour menu which is very good value between 5-6 pm. Massive portions. Beautifully presented and cooked .well worth a visit but it get busy so book beforehand

Visited here for a bank holiday stay in ulverston, everything was perfect. We had mains and starters within 40 minutes, the bruschetta was amazing and the lasagne was the best i’ve ever had. Haydn was our server and his service was 10/10. Very impressed and we will be back!

Absolutely fabulous meal in lovely surroundings. The mushroom starter was delicious, and the main course of penne with spicy chicken and peppers in a cream sauce was exceptional. We were served very efficiently and courteously by Haydn. Prices were good too. £15 for a bottle of merlot is very reasonable. Our first visit, but we'll be back soon. Highly recommended.

Absolutely lovely service! We are four friends who like to get away from London & York a couple times a year and go somewhere different. We also very much like our Italian food and we were not disappointed. Great food, wine and cocktails… what more could you want?

Ordered a kids pepperoni pizza and a 14" Pizza Parma. Absolutely delicious! Arrived 10 minutes earlier than expected too!

Eaten here on a few occasions as part of a larger group. The food is always really good. The ingredients seem fresh and the portion sizes are good. The staff are excellent, accommodating for children and all-round service with a smile. If you are in Ulverston it is worth visiting!

Superb meals here and all 7 people really enjoyed it. A decent drinks and wine selection also.

Just returned home from a fantastic meal at Betullas this evening. The staff were very friendly and attentative and the food itself was amazing. The special cajun chicken and mushroom pasta was excellent as was the house bellacasa pasta. Pizza was lovely and crisp and all the food was obviously cooked fresh. One of the best Italians I've visited for a long time.

Booked table of 19 for a works leaving doo, pre_ordered meals, everything came out quickly and red hot, the food was gorgeous and very good value for money, the service was very good meeting everyone's needs checking if everything was OK and if we required anything else, would definitely recommend going, lovely little gem of a place in Ulverston

Food very poor quality. I had seafood spaghetti which was extremely bland and unimaginative. My Husband had the Calzone, again flavourless and poor. Service poor, first visit, will not recommend or return

Excellent food, A bit slow service but the wait was well worth it.

4 of us visited for an evening meal , service was great food was even greater . We had mozzarella salad to start which had a very tasty pesto drizzle . My friends shared calamari which they said was delicious. For mains I had a gluten free vegetarian pizza - the pizza base took a bit of cutting ( ask for a steak knife ) but this did not distract from the delicious taste . My husband had a mushroom pizza which he said was tasty . Our friends had a calzone pizza which was stuffed to the brim with different meats and a cheese and tomato pizza . We shared one bowl of chips and a side salad between the 4 of us which was plenty . We decided not to have dessert . Service was great , very fresh staff . Food was served promptly and piping hot . We’ll definitely return .

We've orded from Betulla's a couple of times during lockdown and never been disappointed (quite the opposite, their food delivered is quite frankly stunning!). But it was nice to be finally able to eat there in person and we were suitably impressed! The service was fast, efficient and friendly and the food was particularly delicious, just a really good place to go and eat, drink, rest and catch up with friends. It was also - in our opinion - very reasonably priced. Would 100% recommend!

We had two different vegan pizza's and we were really happy with the staff and the food. We sat in the basement. Fine, just a little cold light perhaps and fake plants, but for food and kind people it's really worth it going here!!💚

Pizzas were fantastic, but the carbonara we had, had far too much garlic in it, it was very over powering & traditionally a carbonara doesn't contain garlic although it was advertised on the menu with garlic. Staff were great just a shame about the pasta.

Went on Monday night and the man working alone couldn’t have done a better job, friendly happy and attentive even though rushing around for the other 4 family tables food was really nice definitely will come back!

Pizza was decent, and nice atmosphere but the calamari was god awful!

We just had pizzas but they were very good. My husband was delighted to see a pizza calzone on the menu!! Staff were polite and efficient.

We found here on a trip too Cumbria and what a find. A lovely little Italian restaurant amazing food and a friendly warm welcome and intimate dining experience. Food portions are big and great value as well. Can highly recommend coming here. The lemon cheesecake was the best I have ever had including when I've been in Italy.

Busy place with excellent team working staff, good menu and wonderful food.

Food very good; pasta and polpette delicious and obviously very freshly made. Probably a one off visit from Scotland but highly recommend to locals and visitors to Ulverston.

Italian restaurant with lots of geographic issues ...with wine from Chile, pasta with American cujon and Indian spices, umus for starter....and a long list of garlic bread.... surely whom is cooking has even never been in Italy once... otherwise staff was nice and friendly

Booked at late notice and ended up in the basement. Seats (benches) are uncomfortable and it has a really grotty in appearance. I was prepared to walk out. Glad I stayed however as the food was out of this world! Doughballs and Halloumi for starters and Bolognese for main course. One of the best Italian restaurants I have ever been to. Staff were attentive and friendly. Highly recommended, just make sure you're not seated in the basement.

Visited Butella’s for the last night of our holiday in the Lake District and left extremely disappointed. Service was slow when the restaurant was not even busy, we had higher hopes for this restaurant because of the good reviews. We wouldn’t class ourselves as snobby with food but both myself and my boyfriend could not finish our mains. We ordered the chicken parmigiana and calzone, both so tasteless, the chicken dish was so oily and just tasted like reused chip oil. The calzone was dry and lacked any flavour. We couldn’t wait to get out of there so just paid and left, please do not waste your money here. There are plenty of lovely gastro pubs in the surrounding areas that knock the socks off this place. I’ve never left a trip advisor review before but felt it was needed to make sure that people don’t make the mistake of visiting this restaurant - by far the worst food we’ve ever eaten out.

My husband and I were in Ulverston for a family holiday and decided to our anniversary dinner here after reading good reviews online. We had booked a table in case they were full - they had customers all night but it wasn’t crowded or overly...

We visited Betulla's for dinner on 14/08/21. We were welcomed with a beautiful homely atmosphere the moment we stepped in the door. The restaurant is very very clean with modern décor. The food was absolutely amazing, It was very fresh and Could definitely tell it was homemade. I personally had the Pizza Polpette with loaded fries and it was superb. What a pure pleasure of a dining experience, The staff were very friendly and accommodating. This is a must if your in the Ulverston area. 10 Stars!

We were a party of 8 with a birthday booking at 5:45pm on Saturday 13th August at Betullas which we had previously visited and been very impressed by the whole experience. The food was all really delicious which itself would be rated 5 stars however...

Betullas is our go to for family gatherings. It has a lovely feel, helpful staff and fabulous food. Portions are large so if you want one of the lovely desserts then you'll need to miss out the starter!

Brilliant Italian restaurant, food and service was excellent please give it a try.

Were placed in the basement in a corner. There was no windows and he Food was very poor quality. Not a lot of room in basement. Uncomfortable seating and with being in the basement there was no fire exit. However the service was wonderful and the person dealing with us was very nice and polite. No problem with the front of house staff but the food wasn’t at its best. The reason for the visit was to celebrate daughters birthday We will not be returning.

Great night here recently, nice staff, tasty food and great choice on the menu 😋. All the ingredients tasted fresh and food didn’t take too long to be served. Will return again soon 🫡

The food was good, although the portion size was a little on the excessive side and the amount of oil in my pasta was overwhelming. Any doubts about the food were overcome by the charming nature of the friendly and helpful staff on a busy Monday night 👍

They hire 15 year olds and make them work until at leat 9.30 at night and then pay them barely anything. Its child labour it's unfair to make kids work that long aswell as being illegal. I do not recommend.
