Met friends for dinner this evening. Absolutely awful, not a patch on what it used to be. The waiter was beyond rude - seemed to think he was doing us a great favour. No understanding at all of customer service. We waited 45 mins before getting our first drink. If we had been on our own we would certainly have got up and left. Food was well below average. Will never go back. Avoid. There are so many better places to spend your hard earned cash.

Beautiful old pub, newly renovated. On the more expensive side but worth every penny. Always have space for us when we drop in, wearing bike gear or for a Sunday roast. Outside beer garden currently being worked on but the tables out front catch the sun into the afternoon. Worth a visit for sure!

We moved to the area nearly two years ago and have been on the lookout for a spot like this ever since. The Hare & Hounds absolutely delivered. From the moment we walked in, the service was fantastic—Stefan and Rebecca really made us feel welcome and looked after us so well. The food was amazing. The featherblade beef was cooked to perfection—so tender and full of flavour. Honestly, we couldn’t fault a single thing about the evening. Can’t wait to come back and try more of the dishes on the menu. This place is a real find!

Stopped for a lunch and ordered a sandwich and cup of soup… Thought it sounded a bit pricy £16.45 total £21.95 with a pint! Expected a bit more than a small sandwich and half a cup of soup served with nothing else apart from a ramekin of slaw … It makes London prices seem cheap ! You are having a laugh 😆

Wonderful quiet location. Staff were all spot on to a tee. Room was lovely. Nice breakfast. Now the downside.... Were told when we went down for evening meal that there was a reduced menu. A bit disappointing when we had paid a hefty price for a birthday treat. They did chuck in a couple of free drinks but we were restricted in our choice of food. Only 4 choices. If we were told this prior to paying we would have cancelled. Also the red wine was awful. Must have been dregs from the end of the bottle.

After telling my son & his fiancé how wonderful this pub was we booked to celebrate a special birthday. We arrived on Saturday evening to be advised that a mistake had been made by them and therefore there wasn’t a table to accommodate 4 people.A table was set up for us on a landing at the top of the stairs where there was no other people, no music & certainly no atmosphere. The meal was lovely as always but we left very quickly & felt extremely disappointed. To add insult to injury we were charged 10% gratuity without being asked.

A disappointing visit which won’t be repeated……..We have visited this pub on several previous occasions whilst on holiday and have been very satisfied with the previous service and cuisine. However on this occasion we recently called in for lunch and like previous reviewers were disappointed that the quality of the cuisine has deteriorated. We might have thought this to be the case as on a Saturday lunch time we were the only customers in the place. We ordered their fish and chips and half the meal was returned uneaten. The fish was tasteless and possibly frozen as were the ‘so called thrice cooked chips’. This was obvious to us as our meals were served just a very short time after ordering. We were asked if we had enjoyed the meals and the waiter was told ‘what do you think with the debris remaining on the plates’. They finally had the nerve to add a ‘discretionary’ 10% service charge, which was obviously at THEIR discretion?. This stopover represented a poor lunch time experience which will certainly not be repeated. The advice to other passers by is to continue over Cartmel Fell to the Masons Arms which is still as good as ever. Regrettably I never had my iPad to illustrate the debris we returned on our plates

Just had a 3 night stay at the Hare & Hounds in Bowland Bridge. This little Inn is an absolute gem. Really comfortable room, excellent food, the lamb and leek pie is superb, cheerful and attentive staff. Good beer and great ambience. What more could you want for a short break. Wonderful scenery around the local area as well. Shall be recommending it to friends and family. Well Done Hare & Hounds Team, you're the best place we've stayed in for a long time.

This was our fourth visit. The Inn is remote but accessible in the most glorious countryside. Easy parking. We received a warm welcome. Our room was most comfortable with a large bathroom and great views. We stayed in for supper. Why would anyone wish to go out? The food on offer is superior. I plumped for the old standard fish and chips which were perfectly cooked. My wife enjoyed monkfish tails - one of the specials. Great selection of wines. The staff were delightful and Rebecca and her colleague were particularly helpful at supper. Breakfast was excellent too. It’s run as a country inn should be - with a relaxed, local, friendly, traditional feel. But with a little added touch of class. A perfect stay.

Called here this Sunday afternoon where we received a warm welcome at this dog friendly Inn. The pint of Landlord ... I've had many that were better. The good quality roast beef dinner (£20) is served complete on your plate, take note when ordering if you don't like certain veg as in my case cauliflower cheese. The beef was excellent and cooked perfectly just on the rare side. If you have a good appetite you will need more than the main course here. This establishment appears to have undergone a fairly recent sympathetic refurbishment, it hasn't lost too much of it's charm. The people running this establishment make this place stand out from the crowd.

Apart from the waiter taking the 3 Sunday lunch orders - 1 beef and 2 lamb - asked the two people who ordered lamb if they would like Yorkshire pudding with it. They replied yes please! Very disappointed to receive the bill and see 2 Yorkshire puddings were charged at £3.90! Seems a bit steep and unnecessary when all other establishments we’ve been to include Yorkshire’s with all their roasts. We have just had a weeks stay at chase cottage next door and we visited often during our stay . I really enjoyed it my husband is a real ale drinker and would have preferred more choices. The food is however excellent. This is a lovely quirky pub with friendly staff and really lovely food . The dining is plentiful with seating and it’s a small menu ( which I like ) serving high quality food and proper home made chips . Nice ambiance with the lighting and candles gives it a lovely feel . You definitely need to book even mid week . The service was very good and it was ideal for us staying close so my husband could have a drink . Definitely recommend. It’s a dog friendly place too which is nice . Only negative is could do with a bigger bar area for none diners but once the weathers better sure that will improve as people will be sitting outside also . The website hadn’t been updated and we thought it was closed mon Tue and it wasn’t so be sure to check with them on opening times . Because it’s an old building with smaller windows at dusk it’s not always clear if it’s open if you’re not local . Maybe good idea for them to light up the outside area better with the lamp on and fairy lights along with updating websites .

Had very high expectations as family live close by and had recommended so we all arrived looking forward to a great experience. Decor and atmosphere very welcoming however we weren’t shown to our table just pointed in the general direction. We waited approx 20 mins for our drinks order (the waitress who was very friendly did apologise) and then another 10 mins for drinks to arrive (wrong bottle of wine). My main course which was a Buddha bowl was missing several items and was very disappointing. It was removed from the bill and we were offered a replacement but most of the table had finished eating at this point. We felt that the food albeit nice was very overpriced £150 for 4 adults and 2 children. No starters, one bottle of mid priced wine, one ale and two soft drinks. The cheese board was nearly £13 and two small scoops of ice cream for the children were £5.50 each no other desserts for the table. Service overall wasn’t attentive and we had to get up to ask them to take the drinks order, then again to ask for a wine list finally once more to ask for the bill. A real shame as we all wanted it to be better than it was.

My partner and I spent most of the day in Grasmere with our dog walking. Just before leaving a friend recommended this pub to try, so glad he did. The welcome was great, the food was excellent and you know what it wasn’t over priced. I had the Sunday roast lamb and it was superb, my partner had the fish and chips which was also superb. The service wasn’t excellent…. If you’re looking for a great location definitely visit here… oh and it’s dog friendly as well.

Went for lunchtime Sunday roast. Their website sample menu listed nut roast with very good ingredients, but on being seated we were told nut roast off the menu and it was cheese pasty instead! Seemed a cheap alternative and not really suitable for a roast dinner. Turned out worse than I thought, a very large flat slab of pastry with a slight taste of cheese through the middle. The vegetables were warmed pickled cabbage, small amount of cauliflower cheese and roast potatoes that were more like boiled potatoes with a coating on. Worst Sunday roast ever. Would not recommend.

We went on a Monday early evening. The staff were friendly . Unfortunately the food was so disappointing. The mezza lacked flavour and texture. The bread was dry and unappealing. The lasagna was poor. Not a good experience.

OMG what have you done? I visited the restaurant and ordered the meat pie which was totally unrecognisable from what I have enjoyed previously. I really didn’t enjoy it and sincerely hope you will revert exactly to the old style that my friends and I much prefer. Will now think twice before returning.

This is a delightful place, exactly what you'd want in a Lake District Country Inn. Beautiful countryside set in a traditional Inn with Old stone walls and stone floor, food is superb, we had the Sunday roast option and I chose the chicken and my wife chose the lamb. All garnished with the trimmings as you'd expect. Absolutely lovely, the service was very attentive and couldn't do enough for us. Also being dog friendly this is an exceptional place and we will be back. Thank you everyone at the hare & hounds for a beautiful day.

Thus is just a fantastic place to be after a busy day, sat outside, in the sunshine….. with a pint…. It’s always full of lovely people, who obviously feel the same as me… very glad to be there. The service is very great, the staff are very friendly, helpful, efficient … & most if all happy to be there. The Suave grey haired gentleman, I believe is the manager or owner is just fantastic, helpful & wants to give you the opportunity to spend you hard earned. My only comment would be I would like to see a little more Choise on the menu & May be a bit more verity….. please don’t take this as a negative ( Food is very good) I think it may be that we have been a little too much over the last few months. Thank you & keep up the good work you are doing 😁👍🏻

Five people for lunch - pub was not busy. The good: The Hare and Hounds is a traditional old country pub with a nice atmosphere, friendly staff and good food …with the exception of one meal. The bad: dead flowers on all tables (better to have no flowers than dead flowers). Slow service with one completely wrong meal served and one pot of tea forgotten about. Not the end of the world, but then this: a vegetarian meal was rejected after the first taste as being way too spicy. Soup was requested instead. Upon settling up, the bill included for both meals despite it being standard practice throughout the hospitality industry not to charge for a rejected meal …whatever the reason. Upon questioning the bill, the defence was that the meal had the word ‘spicy' in the title and that it was normally popular (which is subjective). An argument was starting so we swiftly paid for both meals without wanting to cause a scene. In all my years, this was the first time anywhere in the world that a rejected meal has ever been charged for along with its replacement. A goodwill gesture of a complimentary replacement soup, or complimentary coffees would have gone a long way towards making up for the negatives of our experience ...nobody wants an argument!

This place was brilliant. We popped in to see if they had a table and managed to get the last one they had. I'd definitely recommend booking, we saw a lot of people turned away, we clearly got very lucky. We were 2 adults and two kids. The food was excellent. I had the Betullas pasta dish which was amazing, really tasty. We also had the sharer starter which was was really generous. In fact all of the portions were really good sizes and packed full of ingredients. The drinks were also really well priced, which matters when you're eating with kids. Whilst the kids menu might seem a bit more expensive than elsewhere the fact that drinks are well priced more than compensates for that. I think the fact that this place was full says it all, definitely a gem of a place. Great food and really great service. Kids menu was fine, perhaps a touch expensive
