Trattoria in South Lakeland

Absolutely loved the food here. We walked in without a reservation and were seated promptly. The staff was very friendly and relaxed. At no point we felt rushed or pressured. The menu is quite extensive with good options for vegetarians. I took their vegetable stew which was absolutely soul warmingly delightful. All meals had very healthy potions and were done to high quality - whether it was plating or the taste itself. Tiramisu here was very very tasty.

Horrible food and the waiter was so rude. The food here is anything but authentic Italian. Do not trust the good reviews on google, it made us choose this place. Very disappointing and the worst meal I have ever had.

Really poor dinner. The couple next to us walked out due to it being bland but we stayed to see it through. My garlic bread was under cooked and had hard bits in it. And the pasta was very tasteless. Partner had pizza and really liked it but I feel their 4 star reputation is a bit misleading

We had the most fabulous meal tonight one of the best Italian meals we have had . Service was really good and food was amazing.

We called here yesterday after not having much of a plan. We had my little dog with me and weren't turned away, just informed that due to them having an open kitchen they cannot allow dogs in the building, which is perfectly acceptable. The staff were super friendly and definitely contributed to the overall experience. We ordered two pizzas, I knew what to expect from a ristorante/pizzeria, I grew up around Italians and had a lot of authentic Italian food and have been to eateries they know well. This food lived up to expectations and maybe overwhelmed my girlfriend a little as she wasn't prepared for the difference between pizza and real pizza. But yes the price was exceptionally good value for money and the whole experience was spot on. I wished I'd tried some pasta from here too as I'm sure it would have been delicious. I caught a glimpse of some being cooked when I went through to use the restroom as well as someone else's order that passed.

I came here for dinner almost a year ago and I still think about the pizza I ate daily. It was the best pizza I’ve ever had, and this is coming from someone who’s spent many summers in Italy. I can’t wait to come back soon!

Unfortunately one friend found a slug in the rocket when she ate her starter they were very apologetic but it did spoil the evening and they only took the price off for the starter so don't think we'll be back.

We ordered vegetarian pizza and bolognese pizza. Both were excellent Very good value for money. We were unable to finish our pizzas, so we were given a box so we could take unfinished slices away Great service Complimentary shots of limoncello liqueur afterwards were very much appreciated - thank you

A nice restaurant just 5 minutes walk from the centre and perfect for lunch.

Pasta, pizza and sea food ordered were tasty and well portioned. Friendly and welcoming staff.

I can absolutely recommend this place. I've had cannelloni it was amazing as you can see empty plate left, kids had pizza which they liked too and we had meatballs with pasta which also was nice.

We called ahead whilst travelling up from Leeds to book a table for around 30 mins time, but were told there was no availability. We ordered a takeaway instead, yet when collecting the takeaway there were several empty tables and a couple came in behind us and were given a table straight away. Very disappointing, and matching disappointing service. Having said that the pizza and calzone we ordered were very nice, even if it did look like a child had cut the slices (photo for reference)

Highly recommended. The food was really tasty and the portion sizes were generous. I’d recommend the lasagne to anyone! The staff were really friendly and you weren’t rushed through as you can be in some places. I’ll be coming back the next time I’m in Bowness.

My partner ordered 'Salmone al Pesto di Menta e Mandorle Salmon fillet with almond & mint pesto' and it was very poor. The salmon fillet was very large but badly over cooked. It was dry and unpleasant to eat. I had a pizza which was better, but nothing very special. We would recommend giving this one a miss if you can.

Great food very attentive staff really made us feel welcome

Popped in here over the weekend, a very busy little place where by chance we got the last table for two, I’d definitely recommend booking as they had to turn away several people afterwards. Inside is nicely decorated and has a clean presentation, fresh flowers on the table and also a lit candle in matching glass jars. A couple of very hardworking guys circling the tables getting drinks and bringing food, couldn’t fault there work ethic at all. We ordered a pollo pizza and a trattoria pizza with a size order of wedges and a garlic dip. The food came without a silly wait and was freshly cooked, the garlic dip was very generous and had great flavour, at the end of our meal two shots of limoncello were brought out which was a nice touch. Definitely somewhere I’d return to if I was visiting the area again.

Excellent service and exceptional traditional Italian pizza. They also have great gluten free options and the gluten free pizza bases are second to none!

We had a ride out today from Wigan and nipped in on the off chance that they had a table, quick friendly service and tasty pizza, everything cooked lovely and piping hot, would call again.

We were really looking forward to a lovely and cosy Italian meal when we arrived. It was cold and raining and the decor looked really inviting and the restaurant smelled divine as we entered. There were plenty of guests which made us feel at ease and the Italian slate roofing above the bar and food serving area were a nice little touch to make you feel away from the miserable British weather. However, these are probably the only positives I can report about our dining experience at Trattoria. Upon entry the server barely spoke to us other than confirming our booking, which made me feel like we weren't that welcome or appreciated as guests. After being seated, it took over 10 minutes for anyone to come to take a drinks order (by this time we had already chosen our food as well). It took almost another 10 minutes for our drinks to arrive. My wife didnsay that the pinot grigio was a nice wine. We waited a while longer and the starters arrived. We had order the mussels piccanti and the trio Italian. The trio was nothing special, but everything seemed a little small, oily and unimpressive for an appetiser dish costing £10. The mussels piccanti were not like any dish I've ever had before. The sauce was bright yellow (I've had mussels piccanti in Italy that had a yellow tint due to the saffron used), unfortunately the reason behind this was not saffron, but the overwhelming amount of turmeric used. The mussels themselves were nice and well cooked but completely ruined by the ridiculously earthy and spicy sauce that tasted of nothing but turmeric and has probably dyed my fingers like a Simpson for the next week! The bread was also inedible and stale to a point where it barely absorbed any of the sauce anyway (not that I particularly wanted to 'mop it up'). It was not a mussels piccanti. Later the mains came. We ordered a quattro stagioni pizza and the parmigiana di melanzana (my favourite Italian dish). The pizza base was good, but spoiled by the undercooked toppings that meant my wife couldn't finish it. The parmigiana di melanzana was horrible. It was nothing like the traditional dish. The aubergine wasn't sliced flat, it was cut into undercooked chunks that tasted raw and had an uncomfortable texture to eat. The sauce was full of cream to the point where it was way too rich to eat and the whole thing felt like a oven-baked pot of creamy mush. I was really disappointed and I'm sure the nonnas of Italy would be too. After this I decided against ordering a dessert (not wanting to spend more money on disappointment). We were given a shot of limoncello with the bill that was a nice touch, but after drinking that we felt uncomfortable when finishing our drinks as the waiters seemed to be stood by the bar just watching and waiting for us to leave so that they could clear and clean our table. (It was not that late and there were still other couples eating food) Overall it was a very disappointing experience and I felt sad when I left the restaurant as I had such high hopes for it. The atmosphere of the place was lovely and the potential is there, but somewhere down the line, this place seems to have lost itself. I don't normally leave reviews, but I felt I had to this time. I hope they manage to get that Italian magic spark back with both the service and the food, as the Italian food and culture are amazing and something to celebrate and enjoy.

Proper Italian. Excellent food, family friendly, attentive (but not fussing) staff.

We visited Trattoria today for lunch and, upon arriving, were greeted by a waiter/owner/who knows, sitting to the left on his phone, no acknowledgement nothing, asked if they were open and received your be seated, back to his phone, next another waiter arrived, and we ask for a table of six, as we entered I realised we’d not closed the door, My daughter was pushing the pushchair through and missed this, and the waiter, who was seated in the entrance to the left who was frosty as hell, had already leapt up with a (no English frustrated string of comments) which translated as rude, ignorant English people. Anyway ignored it and sat down. The other waiter was slightly frosty at the beginning after hearing the earlier comments as he went for the menus from his colleague, also, but he softened as the lunch continued, and realised he had very polite group of guests just wanting so good food and service. The Lady cooking seemed lovely. Food was ok, but the Chicken Cacciatore, i’m affair wasn’t. Asked if we could have without chips, and rice instead, told no. Anyway, as we left we thought we would please the same seated mobile phone entrance mood hoover of a staff member and left the door firmly open. Gladly it made him leap up and again enhance his rudeness. Shame certain people in businesses or working for, forget without us, the customers they don’t have a wage.

My photos make this look good! Don’t be fooled. I try not to post bad reviews but this has got be one of the worst meals I’ve ever had! I should have known when we sat down and there were paper tablecloths but I put the snobbery aside as some of the most authentic places I have eaten in have had worse table set up and the food has been out of this world - so we continued to order. The bruschetta was huge and on a piece of toast rather than the more delicate pieces of bread you would expect but it was quite tasty - very garlicky but not terrible so I thought let’s just give them a chance. The main course I had the Tagliatelle al Pollo and it’s probably the worse pasta I have ever had! So where to start overcooked so the pasta was mushy but the amount of cream this dish had was sickening. The chicken was just strange and overall the dish was just about edible and if I wasn’t hungry I don’t think I even would have managed what I did. No pepper mill - only ground powder black pepper Dried Parmesan - a no!!! My partner had the seafood pasta which was equally as bad, if not worse. Positives the Sicilian red was lovely and staff were polite and attentive. But £19.95 for a bowl of sloppy overcooked pasta! Shocking and not sure how this place has a 4*. It got pretty busy while we were there and the ranking of a 4 star, we were not expecting this to be so bad but maybe the pizza was better! 100% overpriced and I may not have wrote such a bad review should the price be reflected of the quality of the food.

I'm very disappointed. After seeing the 4* review, I had fairly good expectations and they were quickly shut down by the undercooked garlic bread followed by the extremely bland meatballs & lasagne. The best thing was the Diet coke. Could be hit and miss, but I know I'll never return! There are plenty of other nice places to eat.

We had really great experience, food was so delicious and LARISA is really nice lady so supportive.

Excellent service and food is delicious. Portions are enormous and highly recommend the Calzone! One of the tastiest I have had.

We chose this place due to its glowing reviews but unfortunately the food was tasteless- which is the last thing you expect from an Italian. I got tagliatelle with chicken in a creamy sauce and my other half got prawn gamberini with tagliatelle- neither of us are more than 3 forkfuls. Waiters were really good and the service was quick. Price was decent too.

Don't be dissuaded by the slightly cliche look and lack of ambience.. judge La Trattoria by it's fantastic, authentic cuisine coupled with charming service. Lasagna Al Forno and Gnocchi with King Prawns and Gorgonzola were both fantastic.

Amazing pizza would say i would come back because of this. However, the risotto was 90% herbs which really overpowered the dish and was a bit overcooked. Would reccomend if your in the area.

I really enjoyed the food. Very good service. You certainly would not leave this place hungry. Very large portions but all extremely well prepared. My only complaint was the background music was not background particularly at our table.

We ordered takeaway with a lovely lady just after it had opened, the staff where wonderful as was the food. The Pizzas where DELICIOUS!!

Nice restaurant, lots of gluten free options and pizza was really tasty. Very good portion sizes. A bit pricey but I think that's what you have to expect in this area.

We visited here while on holiday and very disappointed. They forgot and missed parts of our order. When we asked for the missing items the staff just dismissed us.

Had our wedding anniversary dinner here. We were very pleased with the service, and the food was delicious. We could even take away the pizza that we couldn't eat :)

I can’t remember the last time I enjoyed food as much. Great atmosphere, lovely staff, excellent wine, gigantic portions, it’s the perfect place for either lunch or, as we had, an evening meal. The garlic mushroom starter was particularly commendable along with the Caesar Salad. A real find and I shall return every time I’m in the area. Fantastico !

The restaurant was empty but they said they don’t have any available tables. They ca only offer us an outside table. When we tried to use 2 tables from outside they said that we can only sit separately. We were a group of 6 adults. What would have been the point to eat together at separate tables?? Very unhelpful staff.

We made a seat reservation here for our wedding anniversary & the food was quite oily. This left us both with a stomach ache later that night & some discomfort the next day too. It was a shame because the food looked very nice, when it was served.

Disgusting place. Was waiting ages for a half cooked pizza mushrooms raw sweet corn raw waiters and staff useless. Then asked me to leave because I warned the couple next to me about my experience. Never back again in u expect me to pay the prices you asked when the quality isn’t there.

A truly Italian, family trattoria. Good authentic food, outstanding service even when busy and a lovely atmosphere.

Poor quality lasagne, burnt at the edges and over salted. When complaining I was told it had been cooked in the oven hence the burnt edges and I had put too much parmesan on it, hence the salty taste. Staff very abrupt to accept responsibility and after a discussion they reluctantly removed it from the bill. Needless to say did not leave a gratuity.

Fantastic atmosphere and staff however food not so great. Cheese on pizza to heavy , asked for olive , paid additional £1 and I’m more then sure it was oil or really poor quality of olive oil ( in pot not bottle )

The food is so flavourful, amazing portion and beautiful presentation. I ordered the spaghetti frutti di mari, it was honestly amazing. It had prawns, mussels, calamari and squid, with a creamy white sauce. I went with my family, in total we were 6. The most authentic italian place we have ever been too!

The food was excellent and was a little bit of a longer wait than expected as it wasnt that busy. However, we got one of our drinks delivered to the wrong table. Then, when the waitress got another, she forgot the other drink we ordered. Overall, it was okay

There were six of us but she would not let us move a table to get comfortable. Also asked if I wanted a dash of lemonade with my vermouth. I usually drink vermouth with ice but thought I would try it. Dash of lemonade on bill £2.50; and the vermouth was drowned. Pizzas were good but all other dishes were pricey in my book.

Sorry but I had a horrible Meatballs, they were tasting bad, I didn’t complete eating my dinner. Never come again for dinner. Maybe for drinks.

Very poor for price. Went for table for 2 and was crammed in like sardines. For starters we ordered the prawns and muscles which were ok, but for the price I wouldn’t bother. It then took 50 mins for the mains to come. I ordered the calzone, which was terrible, it had shop bought grated cheese which wasn’t melted as the meal was cold in the middle. Very bland. My partner had chicken tagliatella, which was over powered with garlic and the chicken was dry and over cooked. The bills was around £95 (including 2 drinks) The next day we ate at a very lovely restaurant further down in Bowness called Porto, the meal was far superior and was fine dining. For 2 starters, 2 mains and 2 drinks it was cheaper! Worlds apart in terms of overall experience.

Grat place to eat and watch the world go by. The staff very friendly polite and welcoming to say we only sat down for a cappuccino. Then decided to have a little food as it looked good what people were ordering. Milkshake fabulous apparently. Would recommend, not that we had are gigs with us but it's very dog friendly.

This is one of the best Italian restaurants we have tried in UK so far 🧑‍🍳🍕 Pizzas and Pasta are delicious . Their staff Larisa Gutu was really friendly and helpful.

We had a table booked and upon arrival we’re showed to our table however the staff were unwelcoming and almost made us feel uncomfortable. We had a garlic bread which was nice, however our mains were indescribably bad. I had the spaghetti and meatballs which was completely covered in parsley (I think that’s what it was) which still had thick hard stems that hadn’t been cut off. This was also mixed throughout the dish and made it quite inedible. The pasta itself was extremely bland with a strange taste and had a pool of water in the bottom. Only three small meatballs and they were also tasteless. My boyfriend had a penne dish which tasted as bad as mine, but his pasta was swimming in liquid, it dripped off his fork. I could not even finish my meal it was just inedible. Staff never came and asked if everything was okay with our meal - however if they did I would have been way too scared to admit it wasn’t good as they were quite intimidating. When we were given the bill we were presented with two shots of a yellow drink by the waiter who then walked off, I thought it was juice however I took a sip and it was a quite potent alcohol. I am currently on medication in which I cannot drink alcohol with so luckily I didn’t drink it all. I would’ve liked to have been informed on what the drink was first.

My gnocchi dish was way too salty - I rarely waste anything but could only manage half given the salt overload. My companion had the tuna risotto - the tuna was ok though less cooked would have been better but the yellow 'risotto' didn't really taste of anything - I tried a bit too - very bland. When asked by the waiter seeing as so much was left we said why & he took the risotto dish up to the chef. He came back & told us the chef had just been swearing at him. He wasn't allowed to offer us even a complimentary dessert. We just got the limoncello I'm sure they give everyone. If you go maybe stick to the pizza . .

This was the worst dining experience myself and my family have ever had. After being very rudely greeted by an older lady, who whilst in the middle of giving my name and details sharply told me to 'wait a minute', just walked off and left me standing. We were seated 15 minutes after our reservation and waited a further 25 minutes to order food. Two of our party ordered calzone. The seafood one had cold squid in it which couldn't be eaten. The next calzone was charred black down one half. When we sent it back the chef sent out another calzone wich was stone cold with unmelted cheese in it. When we pointed this out the chef came and dropped the original burnt dish back on the table and stood behind the kitchen laughing. My mother was then given a hot plate in her hand with a completely uncooked garlic bread. Whilst all of this is going on the 'chef' stood shouting, pointing at our table and laughing. I had to go over to the till where our waiter, who, although quite unattentive was quite friendly, and explain that I didn't not want to cause a scene in front of the other diners but we were not paying for the calzone and that his chef was unbelievely rude. He agreed and apologised. £258 down for mostly terrible food and the most appalling service ive ever experienced. This was not a great end to our weekend.

We visited as a family and found the food very average. The portions were huge and I could only describe my risotto as mush. I left over half of mine. Staff did not seem bothered that I hadn't enjoyed it. Quite pricey and nothing special. We wouldn't return.

We enjoyed eating dinner outdoors here with their various vegan options. We got two delicious pizzas, a calzone (first vegan calzone ever), eggplant Parmesan, a bean stew, and bruschetta. The calzone was incredible and everything else was delicious. The food came pretty quickly as well and there was very friendly service. We’d love to return!

Terrible service. There were tables free but the waitress (name on th bill was Adriana Bobes) said to my husband, he needed to book. However he decided to wait. Was ignored for a few minutes then to be told he can have the table he asked for. She made a face of annoyance when she took our order. Our order arrived after two other tables who had ordered after us. Drinks didn't come so we had to ask again. Salt and pepper never came although we requested them We didn't enjoy the meal at all so left half of it. We asked for the bill which the waitress finally brought and banged it on the table saying 'here is your bill' and went . Having waited for someone to come to take the payment,my husband went to the cashier only to be told to go back to the table. Someone finally came to take the payment and then only asked how was it. Told him we weren't happy and he went. It was the worst experience in our lives so far and wouldn't recommend this restaurant at all

Genuinely the best meal I have ever had. I got pasta but I forgot the name, it had ham, mushrooms and something else. Service was amazing, food came out so quick blud was like sonic. Great for the price and massive portions. I had the tiramisu as dessert and it was so good. Would give 6 stars tbh
