Silver Moon Chinese in South Lakeland

Visited here for a late night takeaway. Food was alright, place is a bit dated but the staff were friendly, just your average Chinese.

I’ve never eaten as much salt in my entire life as was contained in my meal from this establishment. My daughter and myself had to fight for the bathroom shortly after consuming our meals. My wife sensibly stopped eating her meal after a couple of mouthfuls of brine rice which spared her from the bathroom rush.

Rude abrupt man and awful food to say the least the place looked like it could do with a good clean my husband had a bad stomach I took one mouthful and all I could taste was salt the rest went in the bin. Never again avoid this place

Consistent in serving good Chinese food. We’ve been going to Silvermoon since 2010 😊 and they never disappoints. Our favourite is their Special Udon, Salt and Pepper pork ribs, Crispy Wanton, Beef Satay and their Curry Sauce. Yummy 😋

Shocking. Last night sweet and sour chicken, special fried rice and chips. The sauce tasted like vinger, the chips were crispy (reheated?) rice OK. Not good at all.

I will likely consult with them from now on any time I have a dilemma.

I should probably start by saying that I’ve just moved back from Hong Kong so maybe it’s unfair to criticise Chinese food in a small town in Northern England. However, the food was awful! Apart from the prawn crackers, they were great!

Lovely Chinese pre-ordered and was ready on time.

Had a take away when staying in the area last week. Was recommended by a neighbour close to where we were. Nice staff, efficient friendly service. Good value. Sweet and sour chicken a little tough but everything else very good. Would use again if in the area.

Stayed for a few nights in Kirkby and decided to try out the local Chinese… was not disappointed! Food was hot and fresh, and staff couldn’t have been kinder! Would definitely eat here again!

Staying local so tried this place out. Wonderful food very tasty best we have had for a long time shame we live 300 miles away. Thanks guys

I ordered Egg Fried Rice, and Duck in Orange sauce. But I didn't! I got Chicken in Orange sauce. I would have returned the food, but I was then out of the area. Beware!

We recently moved to the area and this Chinese takeaway was recommended to us. We had the set meal for 2, plus hot crispy beef. All the food was delicious and beautifully cooked. They even cooked without MSG at our request. Highly recommended for quality and value.

Had lovely takeaway for 8 tonight could not fault it, the young man who served us was so pleasant and polite. Will definitely call again thank you.

Went in and told the young guy behind the counter we had been recommended to visit this Chinese food takeaway. His response should have sent me running, "Really?"he said, with genuine bemusement!! Salt & pepper chips were awful but the rest of the food was OK, we had chicken black bean (average) chicken satay (average) and orange chicken (poor) Won't be going again, disappointed. Giving 3 stars as feeling generous as there is no 2 and a half..

We called in a large order for collection later that Saturday evening. The young lady on the phone was so helpful. She read back our order to make sure she had got the details correct. It was a good job she did as I had missed ordering something from my list. The order was ready and waiting for us at the time we asked. We think they have the best salt & pepper chips. Good portions.

Food was disgusting it was not edible very salty.

Very quick, huge portions, and tasted good. The ribs and pork satay were especially good. Would definitely go back. It's probably time to start taking cards though!

Been going for many years and they always astound me in the great food they prepare. Modern day Oriental take-aways seem a tad bland to me and don;t take chances on the use of spice's but not the Silver Moon, thankfully. Proper original Oriental that's array of flavours and tastes is second to none

During these unprecedented times, it's been reassuring to know that George has continued to keep open and do his bit for the local community. The walk down to collect some quality food has done me good and as usual the food has been top notch. I can definitely recommend the salt and pepper ribs.... but never had anything that i didn't enjoy. 5*

Food was cold and disappointing. Level of service was unprofessional to say the least, the two young boys that was working there was to busy stood outside smoking rather than coming inside to serve us and when they did, there was no apology or niceness, they simply looked us up and down and asked "What?" Very disappointing as I know this Chinese used to be very good- a definite fall from grace. I think my two year old could make a better meal.

Best Takeaway in the area by some distance, really good food, special favourite salt and pepper chicken but to be honest even the chips are amazing.

Food is always good, quick and the staff are pleasant. Their menu is extensive no they are very accommodating if you want a deviation!

Wonderful beef in black bean, and suprisingly an amazing chicken curry. This is the best chinese in Kirkby Lonsdale by a mile.

It took an unusually long time to make a simple takeaway order when it wasn't busy, and when the food was ready, it wasn't that good. Salt and pepper ribs were so overdone, what meat there was on the ribs was like leather. Salt and pepper beef was slightly better, but light on the seasoning. Szechuan special mix was ok, although it didn't seem to be Szechuan sauce, more of a smoky ok sauce. It was nice enough, and had I wanted that kind of sauce I'd be pretty happy with it, but I ordered Szechuan and Szechuan it certainly wasn't! All the meat in the mix was good apart from the char Sui pork which was flab And fat. The chips were average Chinese chips.

Silver moon takeaway is the only place I’ll buy Chow Mein from! Beautiful! And the owners are just lovely :)

Doesn't look much from the outside, but the food is really good.

Eaten from here many times and the food has always been great. Tonight however the curry sauce was weak watery and covered in oil! No idea why, this spoilt the meal.

I used trip advisor to find a good Chinese takeaway restaurant in Kendal (couldn't face BBQ again!!) and I'm glad I did. Meal was tasty and the chicken all white meat. Would highly recommend.

Service was OK, however food ordered had no seasoning and was very greasy and meat was fatty too. Disappointing

we have 4 options for different Chinese takeaway, but we always use this on. It's not the nearest but we always think the food is great and consistent so worth traveling to collect from.

I used to eat here all the time and the last time I got a meal from here it was awful. Not good. I will not go back here, in fact it has put me of Chinese food. I don't know if it's different people running it but the standards have seriously dropped its not like it used to be. I don't know how it has 5 star food rating. The young boy who served me on my last visit had stains on his polo shirt and filthy fingernails. This should have be my warning! Sorry but avoid. I take back my previous review

We spent £34 for 4 people and had some leftover the special chow mein was packed with meat and prawns and was delicious. Salt and pepper chicken is also a must quite spicy but very tasty. Very good 10/10 will go again

We come here once a week for lunch and I am proud to say the luscious plain noodles with no bean sprouts are always unbelievably good! As well as the noodles we also get salt and pepper chips and I can quite honestly say the two together are quite divine!This traditional weekly meal will not stop anytime soon as it is often the highlight of our week!Not to mention the smiley service that we are always greeted with as soon as we walk through the door. We had a take away last week from the Silver Moon. We all had different things, I had yeung chow rice and a Thai shrimp green curry, both were superb and huge portions, enough for my lunch the next day! We will definitely eat from there again.

I dont give many one stars out but this was absolute rubbish, couldnt eat it - it was that bad, greasy and foul - tasted like warmed up food cooked in old fat and swimming in oil.So pleased another Chinese has opened up in the square (Water Lilly) which to date has been far superior. Never again, sorry.

Great place for all things bread and cake! Reasonably priced and always fresh on the day. We used the bakery a lot during our holiday and was a refreshing change to our usual shopping habits.

I regularly use this Chinese takeaway , have tried the other one in the sq but prefer the original one in the town, I think this take away could do with an extractor fan as my clothes smell of cooking when I get home after siting in the shop waiting for my meal to be cooked, putting this a side, the staff there are really friendly and helpful and the food is good, 9-10 would recommend

Always a good meal in Silver moon. Prices are very good and the owner is very nice and friendly. Food is always fresh and I think its a lot better than the new Chinese takeaway that has opened in Kirkby. We will be back as its our favourite local takeaway

Were camping nearby and didn't fancy cooking. Had been to KirkbyLonsdale for the afternoon and wanted something to take back. Had ribs, salt and pepper chips, spring rolls and ginger and spring onion pork. It was delicious and the lady serving us was friendly and polite.

Ordered a banquet for four and duck starter for an evening meal yesterday. The quality of food was excellent as always! We come to Kirkby every year and Chinese meals from this takeaway is a must. Daughters showed great appreciation for the yung chow special fried rice, very fresh, and the sweet and sour chicken, soft inside and crispy on the outside! Plus their starters never disappoint!I was also pleased with their new decor and traditional Chinese ornaments, and the addition of extra meals to their menu, will definitely try on our next visit! Excellent value for money and high standard of food for a takeaway meal - definitely recommend!

Mixed starter wasn't to bad but main meals weren't authentic or fresh tasting...avoid if your wanting a good meal takeaway!
