Jingling Lane Chippy in South Lakeland

We had to wait a while but you don’t mind as you know it will be fresh ,the chips were horrible really dry ,also got Cumberland sausage and had curry sauce ,I didn’t check the curry sauce when I poured over the chips ,it was lukewarm warm ,a lot of money to pay for poor quality

Travelled 3,500 miles to re-experience the great British chippy. Just happened to be in Kirkby Lonsdale. This place is rocking on a Thursday evening!

Fills a hole but would of been better off going to morrisons cafe.

The chip shop has just reopened and been refurbished, it looks nice all fresh and white and clean. The chips though were very dry and tasteless asked for salt and vinegar but couldn’t taste any salt or vinegar.

Just been to the newly refurbished and reopened Jingling Lane Chippy. Fantastic fish and chips. Really. Just. Fantastic.

Can't rate this place as we stood outside in the cold until 16-10 ten minutes after they claim to open . Staff saw

Very average experience with the new JL chippy. Food is expensive, takes ages to be prepared/cooked. It is overly salty and dry, my mouth felt awful after I had eaten a battered sausage, almost like I'd eaten sandpaper. The service is extremely unwelcoming, especially the young lass with dark hair in a pony tail, her facial expressions were like daggers. I'll be avoiding unless it is a last last resort, better off going to the Chinese round the corner.

Cashier doesn't know how to smile. Wasn't asked if I'd like any sauces or salad on my burger. Was very dry. Rest of the food full of grease, inedible. Kept sending other people's orders even though I ordered before them.

Very good fish and chips! Very busy at around 5:30pm on a Thursday which has to be a good sign.

So the place is great, when it is actually open. I honestly don't know how the owners stayed in business because once in a blue moon you can find it open.

Shocked by the quantity of chips for £3.00 and that was for a medium portion and gravy on top £1.35 so £4.35 for what was supposed to be my dinner and it wasn't even a child's portion The so cold chips were scraps and by the time I had a rant on here about it they were cold so I dumped them in the bin were they belonged, I understand about price increases but stop ripping people off at least supply good quality if you want to charge the high prices!!! I feel I was ripped off and to embarrassed to go back and complain My advice is stay well away and go and get a sandwich from Booths just up the road

We had lunch in the cafe. Fish very fresh and crispy, Perfect chips and a great steak pie. Lovely friendly staff. Will definitely be back.

After spending nearly £20 on large fish and chips I was very disappointed with the food. Fish was tasteless and very oily. And I mean VERY oily. The large chips were made up predominantly by those tiny inedible pieces of chips at the end of a shift, and this was only 6pm. I don’t normally make complaints as every business needs all the help they can get nowadays - but this was very poor value for money

£11 for fish and chips (not large) with a small tub of curry sauce. The chips were tiny scraps, barely any whole chips, and the curry sauce was watery. Won't be eating from here again.

Wiff and chips! Very poor ..tasteless fish ....soggy batter that was obviously undercooked and didnt even taste like haddock !,chips very bitty and cooked In dirty fat that was actually making our eyes water with the fumes ..and mushy peas were tasteless ...even with salt and vinegar a complete waste of money ! Change your oil ...my clothes stank of dirty cooking oil all the way home...which was a 2 hour journey and feeling sick with the taste if repeating grease ...up your game guys or sell up and leave it to those who know how to cook fish and chips !

Fabulous fish, chips and curry sauce last night. Emergency visit as our restaurant had a power cut! The fish and chip shop was about to close but they kindly stayed open to cook for us. Very much appreciated. 👍

Really tasty scampi and fish and chips, fluffy bubbly batter, really nice welcoming and friendly staff, dog friendly. Small but really cute place. Nice touch putting small scissors in with the sachet sauces. Served quickly and efficiently.

Found this little chippy on the way home from the lakes. Service was brilliant, lovely people. Both the fish and the chips were perfect, and we’ve had a lot of fish and chips! We’ll be visiting again for sure.

I stood in this chippy for twenty minutes waiting to be served. When I wasn't asked for my order I asked the assistant can I order fish & chips please? I was staggered by her reply. "We've run out of fish". She knew there were several customers waiting to be served behind me. What was so difficult to either announce there was no fish or put a sign up to say so? 6.30 on a Saturday is a pretty poor time to run out of your main product! What a waste of time! We will be visiting the town again, but not this awful chip shop run by Mr & Mrs Thicko!

Honestly I have to say what a lovely place. We’ve been here many times. This time was the jubilee weekend. Got fish and chips for friends and family but unfortunately fell on the way out of the shop lots of strangers were really nice and said don’t worry we will get you another portion. Husband went to get his fish and chips owners apparently knew I had fell and they gave us a portion of fish and chips for free lovely people and much appreciated thankyou. And the fish and chips were delicious. Will be back

After a day walking on the Lake District fells, we took a detour to Kirkby Lonsdale to get fish and chips here and it was well worth it. Fish was excellent, chips just how we like them and the service friendly. And, of course, Kirkby Lonsdale is such a lovely town.

Eat here and you will never get better fish and chips anywhere else in the U.K. simply the best we’ve tasted, freshly cooked

My family love fish and chips and they really enjoyed it here, I can’t eat fish so when I go to a chip shop my choices are reduced dramatically, I was so happy that jinglin offer chilli cheese and chips as an option you don’t often get that as a choice , it was delicious too and it was proper cheddar cheese , we all enjoyed our food , chips were perfect soft and fluffy inside crispy outside, service was second to none too , as my parents were sharing a fish they offered to cut and plate it separately as we were eating in the square, I highly recommend jinglin and hope to return our next holiday here thanks for all your hard work it’s not been easy these last few years , I know as a fellow chef !!!

Superb fish and chips and really nice owners. Called in on walk back asked for fish and chips to share which they did without question cooked and battered the fish into two portions shared chips in two trays. Walking in the rain and they still tasted beautiful.

Called for a family bag of chips for the walk back to the caravan, the owners knew our plan and happily split our order into 5 portions to make it easier! Can’t comment on the actual food but was really disappointed with the COVID set up, we queued our side with others for a long time until it was clear that nobody was going in, so I asked what the situation was, only to find we had to order, when we did enquire we were told to wait for 1 hour, not quite set up for takeaway. Please do check and order before if expecting food to be ready on collection.

Really lucky to find such a welcoming quality fish & chip shop when we first visited Kirby a few yesrs ago. Fish and Chips are excellent, good quality fish with a lovely batter and chips cooked to perfection. To add to the wonderful food they are also dog friendly and warmly welcomed our two bedlington terriers with water and some treats. Both staff working today were friendly and made us all so welcome it was as though we were regular visitors. A lovely plzce for either a sit down fish znd chip lunch or a takeaway. Would recommend to any one visiting Kirkby Lonsdale.

We treated ourselves to a fish and chip tea yesterday, very nice haddock and chips, they take the time to prepare and make the food from scratch, well worth the wait though. The owner asked if we had far to go, i presume because she was concerned with how much paper to wrap around the food to keep it warm, such a nice considerate thought. Highly recommend a visit.

The women in charge had a terrible attitude towards her staff who were rushed off there feet. The way she spoke to her staff in front of customers was shocking. The younger staff seemed lovely and no appreciation was shown towards them. It's not hard to smile. Disappointed
