Fish Express in South Lakeland

Lovely staff, very friendly, fish and chips were delicious, massive portions for the price! Tasted fresh and would definitely return if in the area.

Popped in with friends on a Wednesday evening for dinner. We saw some positive reviews online saying they offered gluten free fish and chips. And they did indeed, I had gluten free fish and chips, they made it fresh for me so little bit of a wait, but it was delicious! I don't think I've had better gluten free batter before! They even had gluten free vinegar for the chips which was a lovely addition and much appreciated. My friends said they enjoyed their sausages and normal fish. Portions were very generous, and the price was incredibly reasonable.

Went in tonight just for chips and curry sauce with a cup of tea. I was made to feel really welcome by the lady behind the counter and my food was delicious. This will be my go to treat whenever I am in kendal.

Extremely tasty veggie burger...honestly, the best I've had in a restaurant! We eat here whenever we're in Kendal, and it's unfailingly been a good experience. Great food, good menu choices for a fish and chip shop, always friendly service from a small, hard-working team. Of course we'll be back!

Every time I come to Kendal, I pay a visit to fish express in the town centre. In my opinion, their chips are second to none. We'll worth a visit if you're in the area.

Just called in at lunchtime today, fish and chips best I've ever had, bloody lovely 😍

I went in at a very busy time, around 7pm, Friday evening Lots of people waiting having ordered and queue in front of me. I did consider leaving again but then it was already my turn to order. Three guys working, one on till taking orders, one cooking, one putting orders together. I was in there less than ten minutes despite all the customers. Very efficient, very polite, very tasty food. Chips just right, batter crispy and golden, fish succulent and nicely cooked. If I didn't live 5 hours away I'd go again soon.

As a regular customer, I know the food is always first class. It's a clean and welcoming restaurant with great staff.

Honest opinion food was amazing but hot take got the regular fish and chips and my god it was huge could have fed 2 of us with the regular if I was local would I become a regular

WOW!!! the fish was lovely and also massive. the chips were fresh chunky and just like we used to get when I were a kid. the curry sauce was also bang on worth driving an hour just for the chip shop!!!

The only chip shop in Kendal that I’ve found do GLUTEN FREE BATTER and it’s delicious! Great service every time.

Fish was freshly cooked, but not well drained (oil leaked through the card box and the paper bag onto clothing on the way home.) Chips were okay. The server was very polite and efficient - he used hand cleanser between tasks. I was concerned about the cook's hygiene - while standing by the food she scratched her head twice, wiped her hand round her face and nose, and brushed bits off her tee shirt. No hand cleanser between all that. I was wondering whether to cancel my order, but didn't because it was late, we were very hungry and not many chippies were open (Monday). Fortunately there were no ill effects.

Stop off Kendal and decided to have fish and chips. This chippy was highly recommended and it did not disappoint. Food, staff and service were excellent. Not sure what else to add other than we would also recommend.

Wow, my wife and I visited Kendal for the day and we both agreed its probably one of the best chippies we have ever had. Keep up the good work and we shall return in the future.

Great gluten free fish and chips!! They even offer gluten free curry sauce for our coeliacs out there so you’re not missing out and you don’t just have an “it will do” option. Also, even when they’re busy, they’ll sort anything out for you if you have any complaints regarding your order. Definitely recommend this place!

Had my 55th birthday. Traditional fish & chips it is exactly the same as I have cooked for many years truly "delicious" ❤️🔥❤️. Just famous thank you for a lovely time. PS. Called in today while on a day trip, ordered a battered haggis, was cooked fresh and was the best haggis i’ve had, very tasty and was coated in lovely well cooked batter, staff were very pleasant and friendly too, will be back for more when in the area.

Second visit in a couple of months and it didn’t disappoint at all. MASSIVE portions of food which beat the three of us and we couldn’t finish. Incredible value for money and we will be back soon. Top marks.

Massive portion for the price. However, the fish and chips were totally saturated with oil/fat, soggy and inedible. I managed to eat some of the fish by removing the batter. Really disappointed and wouldn't go back.

Service was fast and efficient. Prices were what you would expect for the area. I had the burger with chips and cheese. The burger itself was nice, however the bun was rather stale. The cheese isn't a good choice for chips and cheese as its very strong in taste and doesn't melt. The chips were nice and tasty.

My wife and I decided to take Mum for a run out to a chip shop for tea (Dinner), she wanted to eat in (which reduces the options somewhat) and she needs to be able to park near to the venue (again reduces the options somewhat). So after a bit of research we opted for Fish Express. As a Fish & Chips fan I must admit that the name made me a bit wary but I was to be surprised, I have eaten F&C from some well known establishments over many years, we are regular visitors to Whitby and the North East coast is generally considered to be the best area for good quality F&C but there is stiff competition here. I can only see as I find and this meal was at least equal to ( if not better) than all the above, the portions were huge and the quality was fantastic, It wasn't cheap but value isn't necessarily in the price - Both my mum and I had the Fish Express Special ( Fish, Chips, Mushy Peas and drink) and my wife had Scampi & Chips. I did have to ask for proper salt & vinegar shakers (which there were many) as the table basket offered only sachets, the mushy peas were lovely and plentiful and the meal was served with a decent sized lemon chunk, the cafe area is comfortable and functional but basic but the food was absolutely outstanding (and the tea came in a pot). Papas, The Magpie, Trenchers - look out, you are all under threat.

A visit to Kendal must accompany with eating at "FISH EXPRESS" an exceptional food & service at a very reasonable price, an EXCELLENT VALUE for money.

Very friendly place serving great fish and chips

Clearly it appears that fish and chips is the only dish they can do. I never leave food but could not finish the cold chicken and mushroom pie. At no point was I asked if everything was OK. Very disappointed.

I've been for take away fish and chips and they are always beautiful so chose to take my son for dine in with it been a bit cool out. We found a seat after asking if it was OK so we had made ourselves known. Everyone that was in had clearly been see to and was eating. My friend went to the till after 5 minutes to order and was told some one will take your order. A woman came in after my friend sat down and after 3 minutes her order was taken. Then 2 males came in, the same time as another couple. The 2 men who's table was been cleaned, from the previous people,while they were sat at the table then had their order taken. 20 minutes in total we were sat waiting. Unfortunately we then had to leave as my son was getting hungry and restless. Disappointed for sure.

Good portion size. Quite expensive. Chips were overcooked and hard. Fish batter was oily and not nice. Mushy peas ok though.

We weren't even hungry when we came across this place. It just smelled so ni e we had to give it a go. The chips were cooked to perfection and the curry was delicious.

Take away fish supper for me with coeliac disease is not always easy to find. Separate fryer so safe from cross contamination. Big portions, should have shared one between two! Good fresh fish and crispy batter.

The place was clean and lovely decorated the fish and chips meal deal we had was absolutely spot on no issues at all.What was a let down was the attitude of the young blond girl that works there one elbow on the counter looking sideways at you with a "yea what you want",bringing your food was just as bad pushed on the table as though she was in pain or just didnt want to be there, its asthough shes the owners daughter and had been asked to work at short notice.Food brilliant other staff nice and friendly that staff member requires training and a attitude update, would eat there again but take out only.
