Bar & Grill at Waterhead in South Lakeland

Restaurant was a little short staffed but did not affect the quality of the food . We had the salmon fillet and the seabass , cant remember the dessert except that it was excellent . Accompanied by a decent bottle of malbec . Slightly disappointed that they could not make expresso martinis but would difinitely eat here again.

We went for my birthday and had a lovely lunch. The staff were very friendly and Molly, the dog got plenty of treats as well. It was outstanding, we will be back 😁

We recently visited the restaurant being residents at the hotel for 4 nights. We were unable to get into one of the Thai restaurants in town and decided to opt for the Thai red curry on offer. Sadly, this was a pretty awful attempt at a Thai red curry. It lacked a creamy coconut milk, lemon grass and cinnamon - really seemed like a bad edition of a Thai curry paste mixed with water. Hardly worth the £17 charged. If looking for a thai curry go elsewhere. Sad, as I could make this better myself at home and would not consider myself a chef!

Called in here for a spot of lunch, limited menu but only wanted a sandwich. Ordered a cheese n pickle ciabatta with soup at £12.50. Shocked at the tiny size of the Ciabatta , approx 10cm2.....appalling! so it was sent back and money refunded.

The food for breakfast and evening meal was really good. The service was exceptional. It was nice to get back to a partial buffet style breakfast. highly recommended.

Booked a table for the resturant months in advance to be told on arrival they don't serve food during these time we had booked? No apology or alternative, We showed the confirmation of the booking they still didn't honour anything. Maybe they should check their booking systems prior to people arriving especially on a busy Bank Holiday weekend when we turn up with 2 Children expecting a meal.

We ate one night during our stay and the food was lovely, the menu is varied, we opted for the steak and ale pie which was lovely and had a twist!

We were greeted by friendly staff lots of choice on the menu and high chair provided and bowl of hot water provided to warm toddlers food up. Chose ratatouille lasagne which was tasty and different and my husband had salmon which he said was delicious. We had a table in the window so had great views of lake. Lemon meringue pie were delicious as well

First thing they brought was a water bowl for the dog, this little eye for detail really set up the experience. Good food well presented and very generous portion sizes. Clean and airy room nothing too much for the attentive staff. Was a little pricey.

We booked in the Bar & Grillcouple of weeks in advance for a Sunday night meal based on the dog friendly reviews and location by the lake. On arrival the member of staff was taken by surprise that we had our 2 small terrier with us and had to ask the bar manager where we could be seated. We were then sat in the rear section of the restaurant near to some very noisy toilets which appeared to be a drinking lounge with no dinner tables laid. We ordered 2 main courses which arrived promptly and were very tasty but not hot. Being in the rear section away from the main restaurant we were clearly out of sight and I had to leave the table twice to get staff attention for further drinks and the dessert menu. We elected to leave shortly after as no one returned to take the dessert order. Overall a very disappointing experience. When I booked, I was expecting to be seated in the bar area and being put at the rear clearly spoilt the experience. I would like to say that the staff that did serve us after prompting were very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately we will not be booking again.

We visited this lovely place for a birthday surprise. Everything was fab,food very tasty,excellent service by Mirela and the atmosphere was very nice. All the staff is very friendly and welcoming and the view from the restaurant is absolutely stunning! I would highly recommend!

Comimos aquí en nuestra primera noche en Ambelside y no podríamos haber deseado una mejor comida o servicio.Nos recibieron al llegar con la más cálida bienvenida y la comida era excepcional. Nuestro camarero fue genial, muy atento y amable. Nos estábamos quedando en la misma calle, así que la ubicación también era una ventaja. Disfrutamos muchísimo de nuestra vista del lago desde nuestra mesa. No puedo recomendar lo suficiente. Además, ¡el pudín de caramelo pegajoso casero era para morirse!

Buen menú variado: tenía la opción vegetariana de tofu y fue muy bueno seguido de tarta de merengue de limón que fue excelente: el socio tenía el pollo asado seguido de STP y nuevamente pensé que era muy bueno.Buena selección de bebidas y fuimos por una botella de Sauvignon Blanc, aunque inicialmente nos trajeron un Chardonnay por error, pero corrigieron el error sin ningún problema.Lo recomendaría como comida y servicio buenos y un precio razonable.

Mi novio y yo venimos a visitar el lago Windermere y nos detuvimos en este increíble restaurante. Estábamos tan contentos con nuestra hermosa mesa exterior con la vista más hermosa del lago. La comida era de una calidad increíble, mi novio dijo que es el mejor pescado y patatas fritas que jamás haya probado. Tuve el pollo asado que venía con un magnífico puré de papas y espárragos, solicité salsa con mi comida, que no estaba en el menú y nuestro INCREÍBLE camarero, Bedrich o "richy", como lo llamamos los scousers, se aseguró de que se cumpliera mi solicitud. ! No puedo elogiar lo suficiente las increíbles habilidades de Bedrich en hospitalidad, hizo que nuestra visita fuera tan cálida y acogedora. Definitivamente volveremos a visitar Waterhead la próxima vez que estemos aquí en los lagos para el increíble servicio de 5 estrellas, desde comida hasta bebidas para todo el personal. No nos quedamos en el hotel pero comimos en el restaurante y la comida estuvo muy buena. El resto de los restaurantes cercanos sonaba bastante elegante y como teníamos el perro y estábamos vestidos para un paseo de perros, queríamos un lugar un poco más informal, al mirar el menú en línea, parecía adecuado. Las raciones eran generosas y la comida muy sabrosa, los camareros eran amables e hicieron un escándalo por nuestro perro. Cuando volvamos a Windermere definitivamente volveremos a comer allí, ya que había muchos elementos en el menú que quería probar.

El servicio era demasiado lento, la comida demasiado salada, se les acabaron los espárragos, así que los sustituyeron por unas insípidas verduras congeladas con las que no estaría feliz del supermercado, y mucho menos de un restaurante; y cuando nos trajeron la cuenta, habían intentado - quizás por error, quizás no - agregar dos bebidas que no habíamos pedido. Inaceptable.

Comí aquí con mi hija en una tarifa con cena incluida un domingo por la noche. La comida era muy buena y sentí que la forma en que hacen la tarifa inclusiva (con una cantidad fija en lugar de un menú fijo) tenía una muy buena relación calidad-precio. El personal fue amable y eficiente.Probablemente le daría un 4. 5 en lugar de 5 solo por un par de cosas pequeñas, sirvieron un oporto blanco a temperatura ambiente y sabía muy amargo, así que no estoy seguro de cuántos años tenía, también obtuvimos un servicio un poco `` genial '' la noche siguiente cuando acabamos de llegar por una bebida.

Staying at the hotel and they can't even feed us. Told them everywhere is busy, but they still wouldn't feed us. Poor service. Ordered a drink and was still waiting for it 15 mins later Couldn't understand the bar staff either

Good service and excellent pizza from the outdoor pizza oven yards away. Wanted something more interesting than usual tourist food and this was it. The pizza was beautifully cooked. We sat in the garden, very Covid safe.

We came here first time for my husbands birthday, everything from start to finish was lovely, the service is amazing, the food is very tasty and the restaurant looks stunning!! I would like to mention MIRELA, she was a super star, absolutely fantastic, very friendly and so smiley all the time. She is definitely a credit to your company! We never met before a waitress so special!!! Also,the rest of the staff and the managers are very kind and friendly. They really care and provide a very good customer service with a beautiful smile!!This is one of the best place we have visited! Well done guys, congratulations!! PS: we will be back very soon even just for a meal or coffee, no matter if I have to drive 4 hours just for 1 hour spent here!

If the weather is kind, you can eat in the garden. There is a large pizza oven in the garden. The pizzas are delicious. You can eat in the bar too, and the restaurant, which has excellent food.

Sharing platter of 8oz steak and beef which was very nice. Very well presented and really tasty. Views across lake from window table were incredible

Reasonable prices, and good service. The restaurant is usually quite empty so it was nice and quiet. I had the steak, which was a bit soft, not sure if it was because of the grade of cattle. The waitresses are very attentive and will keep coming to ask if everything is alright.

After a lousy experience at Table 22, we found this oasis of hospitality and service. Paul, Allen and Mirela were excellent and the food was amazing! Felt like we were being welcomed by old friends.

It was our Tour Groups Farewell Dinner in UK and restaurant was a great choice for it. Wonderful meal, wine and definitely service. Fast and efficient.

Had lunch here whilst visiting Ambleside from Windermere. Lovely location and great food and drink. Very busy but good customer service.

Visited here 48 hours after a dreadful experience 100 yards away, every dish here was probably £1 dearer but worth twice as much, polite attentive staff, and superb food. Will certainly return next time in the Lakes.

At the foot of town, this is a nice place to stop for a snack or a tea. Nice bar, and a comfortable array of rooms to have your relaxing meal. Prices were fair, and the servers I thought were both friendly and efficient. Varied menu, so plenty to choose from. The location is nice especially on a nice day overlooking the lake. A nice lodge feel here. Gets busy when the boat traffic is high and if rainy, it’s really busy

Stopped here for a drink & lunch over 2hrs later we still hadn't got our pizza,had they gone to Italy for it?!When I asked a waiter after an hour he said it was busy but after sitting chilling for another half hour it still hadn't arrived,so this time I asked who I thought was the manager & again was told it was busy!! Then I said there had been other people who had ordered after us been served eaten & left so how does that work? He went off only to come back & apologise saying our order had got lost offered us a free drink & said it would be with us asap & told us to sit back & enjoy the view,So that's what we did!Then after another half hour seeing other tables getting their pizzas (another man after seeing what was happening feeling bad that he had his before us got up & offered us his pizza which we declined) & ours still hadn't come my husband went in & had a firm but polite word & the next second our pizza arrived,go figure!!The only saving grace was the pizza was delicious,they also refunded the price of the pizza which we didn't expect.All in all it was a shame as it spoilt our chilling afternoon in lovely surroundings.

Good setting by the lake, albeit next to the main road - ordered a halloumi, honey and seasme salad. Recieved lettuce, thick cut onion, halloumi, tomato and balsamic glaze salad. Second dish we ordered was the pulled pork nachos - pretty much all came out a jar and poured on top. Nothing fresh and rather disappointing. Would not recommend as incredibly over priced and basic.

Great location, just across from the lake. Lovely airy restaurant with outdoor seating that also has an outdoor pizza oven. Dog friendly, I notice they were providing bowls of water for them. Food was delicious, with a great choice and gluten free options. Visited twice while we were on holiday and very much looking forward to coming back next time we are there.

Lovely outside seating with oven for pizza cooking in the sun. Really nice place for a drink, we didn’t eat. Only thing was could have done with a bigger bar team as the queue was a bit long for me but great place to head to if you want a nice drink with great people

A group of us had lunch Saturday and it was very average. Although the burgers were ok the other choices seemed just average. Even the staff were quite average involved more in their conversations with each other rather than attentive to us.

A Great experience from start to finish. Brilliant staff with friendly service and we were given a wonderful table overlooking the lake. The food and wine was excellent with plenty of choice, including good choices for vegetarians. Would love to return and stay at the hotel next time!

It was a beautiful day and we sat outside the hotel. It was quiet so lunch was served quite promptly. The food was very nice and service was friendly.

Cold and sterile is the first feeling you get when you arrive. Although the staff were attentive they lacked any warmth as if just going through the motions.

This is a beautiful restaurant in a stunning location with great views of the lake. It is clean, comfortable and has a lovely atmosphere. However one of the reasons we chose it is because it is listed as having vegan options. It does not. Not a single thing on the menu was vegan. We asked to adapt a couple of dishes but one still came with a yoghurt dressing and the other with coleslaw. Shame as the food was otherwise very nice and the meat eaters in the party enjoyed it immensely. Note for the management - do not advertise something you don’t offer, it is misleading and annoying.

The bar is lovely with a great selection of drinks and wonderful location. We have been coming here for many years but the service and food has gone totally downhill.

We were staying at the Waterhead Hotel, and the staff were kind enough to ring beforehand to ask if we would like to book a table for our first night, which we did.

Fui aquí por la tarde para tomar unas copas y fue muy agradable. Reservamos para la cena y el servicio era horrible. Vino ordenado y comida (entrantes y plato principal), el entrante llegó a los 3 minutos, esperó 20 minutos por el vino, al final mi compañero tuvo que ir al bar para obtener el vino, no estaba contento con eso. ¿La comida estaba bien, pero intenté pedir una segunda copa de vino, pedí un chardonnay pequeño y me trajeron medio shandy? ! Reservamos el 10% de descuento en otoño y la factura final no tenía el descuento, así que tuve que preguntar, se fueron inmediatamente, pero ese no era el punto. Qué vergüenza después de una buena experiencia en el día, luego arruinada por la experiencia de la noche.

Luché tanto con esto, algunos elementos eran bastante pobres, otros eran brillantes.

Esta antigua casa de Montreal, que se convirtió en un club privado, se ha trasladado a un gran restaurante y bar abierto para todos los interesados, el lugar era tan magnífico que fue una pena que no todos los clientes se molestaran en pensar en lo que iban a usar. ! El menú era interesante y variado y la comida era excelente. Una buena lista de vinos y un gran servicio hicieron de este un lugar especial para ir.

So so experience, gin based Afternoon Tea, bit boring to be honest, doesn’t live up to the hype. Luckily with a locals Relish card there was 20% off that day, we did stay for a further drink in the bar and again with the card got 10% off

A range of quality food is available and the bar is well stocked for those who like a drink. Beers and Gins are excellent. Good friendly staff who are always polite and provide excellent service.

Ate here during our holiday in the Lakes, Food was good quality (if the starters were on the small side) I had the beef carpaccio to start and the roasted chicken breast. Cost was reasonable and the staff were good

The location of this place is great, we seated ourselves out side next to the pizza oven . Disappointed we were informed that there was a wait of 30mins for the pizza due to the fact they had just run out. We thought it’s a nice day and we can wait. Returning to the menu I had the sausage and mash which was very lovely. The flat breads were great and the burgers and chicken also . But the disappointment was the guy then turned up to cook pizza cooked 3 and then started to put everything away and taking the pizza dough back to the kitchen , but to be honest the lad looked like he didn’t want to be there another table had also made comments. It wouldn’t stop me from returning I get the impression staff turn over may be high communication which the staff was hard.

Dropped in on a Monday night with friends to see if it was possible to book a table and were met with a very frosty response. If I was told three times "They were not accepting business until 9pm" I must have been informed half a dozen times. There was no hope of us eating outside as again this was met with a very stern "No", with no suggestion of anything else they would suggest or offer.

We were looking for somewhere to get a pizza for my wife at around 4.00pm and came across this place. It is a lovely hotel that is situated on the banks of Lake Windermere and has a pizza oven outside! The menu is available until 5.30pm and then the formal restaurant opens although i think you can still eat in the bar area. Seating is very comfortable both inside or out and the service is impeccable (hats off to Daniel!). Prices are very reasonable, as I titled this review this is a great find and is highly recommended.

We were staying at the hotel this weekend and booked a table in the restaurant for Sunday night. Bit disappointed that we couldn’t have one of the pizzas that looked lovely in the daytime as they are only available until 6pm as is the all day bar menu. We both opted for the fillet steak. Both tasted good but mine was a bit over cooked. I asked for a rare medium but it was definately medium cooked. However it tasted good. The deserts were lovely,sticky toffee pudding and raspberry ice cream mouse. Not the cheapest but good quality food.

Both the bar area and restaurant proper are well presented. Before 18.00 one can get snacks outside but we had dinner.

We came here when our hotel, the Wateredge, closed its kitchen early. We were met by friendly service and great atmosphere. Our server Hi , Tomas, was particularly good. My wife ordered salmon followed by a raspberry mousse. I had pork belly followed by a sticky toffee pudding. The food was excellent but we were both really impressed by how innovative it was. The pork belly had a light apple purée which was definitely the best apple sauce I’d ever had. Delicate. Then my wife’s mousse was accompanied by a rice pudding ice cream which was incredible and my sticky toffee pudding had a mildly crunchy texture that put it way way above the typical versions you get. Even in the best meals, you rarely get that level of cleverness.

There was a wonderful selection of gins, some we had never heard of. The food was good and the service great.

Had a lovely meal early evening today. It was busy, with it being bank holiday and excellent weather. Our food was served in a reasonable time considering how busy it was. Lovely setting and decor, everything clean.

We booked into the Bar & Grill on the first night of out stay in Ambleside (staying at the Lake House directly opposite) This was our wedding anniversary, I had requested a nice table and that is what we got. The service was lovely, the staff were attentive, The beef Carpaccio was delicious sliced slightly thicker than i am used to, but it was still a joy to eat. My husband had smoked salmon followed by Venison steak, and i had a Beef fillet, which was perfectly cooked. All in all we had a lovely evening and would recommend

Called in to this hotel for a scone and tea to check out their restaurant as we had booked a table that evening based on some research around the area and it had been recommended. As we walked in we were greeted by a friendly barman (Fernando) who made us feel very welcome. Lovely warm scone and clotted cream with lashings of tea all delicious. When we arrived that evening Fernando was there again and greeted us by name (very impressive which makes you feel that the staff care about their job). The restaurant was attractive and the menu varied. We all very much enjoyed the food and the service was excellent. Will definitely return and will probably try the hotel for a few nights. If we receive the same quality of accommodation as the service and food we got on Saturday night we should be in for a good stay.,

Visited here at Sunday lunchtime. Lovely relaxed atmosphere and very good food. I had a platter of bread, meats, cheese, olives etc. and husband had a burger with fries. Good choice of hot and cold sandwiches. On site car park.

Although I didn't eat here, I did sample many items from the cocktail menu and all were fantastic and served by a very accommodating barman

Lunch in the bar was superb, relaxed and the service first class, dinner was in the restaurant the menu is extensive and they have a great wine list.

Saw this place as we drove past earlier in the day and decided to stop off for dinner tonight. Lovely team providing a good choice of food. The baked cod loin on the mussel and chorizo broth was really tasty. As was the pork belly. Good wine list available to suit all budgets ££ £££

We came here for drinks on a Saturday evening. We were welcomed by a lovely lady behind the bar who, unlike most other bars in Ambleside, knew how to make a good gin and tonic - large fish bowl glass, packed with ice and berries, fevertree tonics, choice of gins. Spot on! I had a nice beer too and we retired to a lovely comfortable couch away from the bar area.

We booked a table here on a Friday night for a treat and it didn’t disappoint. We had drinks in the bar first and were soon shown to our table, the restaurant is very nicely done out with comfortable chairs and you are not on top of other diners.

Me and my partner stopped over for lunch whilst touring the lovely Lake Windermere. We saw a pizza oven outside so we decided to have the pizza. It was absolutely delicious and felt so good. It was not cheap, but that is to be expected when you have the lake view. Would defeinitely stop there again if I visit the lake again.

Stayed here for the weekend and on the Friday night decided to have dinner. Menu was good and tried the Black pudding starter. A slice of black pudding with an egg on the top plus some coleslaw! Not nice and the same slice of pudding I can have for breakfast! My wife had what was called crab cakes, no crab in it and potato was dry as can be. Main was belly pork but crackling on top was soggy, my wife had the fish special which didn't really look appetising with little blobs of something on her plate, still not sure what she had! The sticky toffee pudding made up for it though at the end. Plus the cheeseboard which they brought out with extra cheese to "make up for the starter".So reason for 3 and not 1 is the breakfast was great, lots of choice and food was excellent. So worth a visit for breakfast or lunch but need the right chef for the evening!

we returned to this restaurant after a gap of 3 years and its still as great. The décor was the same and the staff were friendly and efficient. The menu was varied and was freshly cooked and you were not hurried. we would definitely return again. Keep up the good work!

I had a steak and my son had sea bass and both were very good. We also tried a pizza which are made fresh in their pizza oven situated outside in the beer garden and it was lovely.

Excellent restaurant food with good friendly service. The fish was really lovely - try catch of the day.
