I don’t think I’ve ever paid so much for a sausage and a bacon sandwich, they are charging sit in restaurant prices. The bacon was pre-cooked, cold and tough, the bread buns were dry, quickly buttered on one side like in a catering trailer, but your paying restaurant prices couldn’t even be bothered to butter both sides, I say butter it was cheap bright yellow margarine. The bread buns were clearly the days before the sausages were tasteless. All was cold, was fuming we had left in the car otherwise Id have dumped them back on the counter, just ate a bit as starving and left the rest

Lovely, friendly atmosphere and well looked after by our host Matthew. We’ll definitely be returning to this pub unfortunately can’t say the same for the goat down the road, whom discriminated against our hidden disabilities and refused service. This placed welcomed us without judgment and serves great wine and good music. Would recommend!

Stayed at the Westmorland hotel on the way from Aberdeen to NW England to visit family and friends. Clean. The lounge area has been refurnished and well set out. Rooms clean and basically furnished. May need to rethink showers vs baths during any upgrade of rooms? Latter can be trial for anyone with disabilities and I’m not sure how many people luxuriate in a bath these days. As usual the evening meal was excellent. I always have their lamb offering as it is from their own farm and always excellent. Modest wine choice. Local beers to try. Pleasant staff and good to see young local people working in and being introduced to the hospitality business. Breakfast good. Bought local Lakeside gin and fudge for our hosts. Several other local items on offer and several other quality goods from UK suppliers. Returned for a coffee stop on the way back. Not over busy. Excellent coffee. A bit overpriced. Food offering was not needed but looked a reasonably varied options. Salad looked great. Might try to be more imaginative with cooked food offerings but have to look at practicalities from a cooking and keeping fresh perspective against what the general public ask for. I am usually content with soup and a roll or sandwich for lunch when travelling. After all one is not exactly using a lot a calories sitting behind the wheel of a car! Had this at Cairn lodge and good it was too. Food outlets employ local people many of them young being introduced to retail. Well done to the Dunnings for doing so and bringing local jobs to local youth with prospects of moving on to greater things. No need here for cheap immigrant work force. Bought a butcher dept pie, vegetables and Cartmel sticky toffee pudding for supper that evening. Pie full of steak and tasty. Keep up the good work.

What was once thought of as a worthy destination, has gone dramatically down hill. 25 minutes of queuing for food, only to be told that 3 of the limited 5 dish menu were not available for a further 10 minutes. No real apology given, staff were “frantic” and spent more time moaning to one another than actually serving and just getting on with it. At one point, there was only one male serving food, slower than anything I’ve ever seen before. Till queue no better - half the restaurant seating area was closed off for cleaning (great timing during a Friday evening dinner rush) - dirty plates left on the tables - and to top it all off, no available cutlery. We won’t be coming back, which is a shame when I think how good this services used to be. Clearly lacking proper management oversight, or it was tonight at least. Recommend going to a normal service station in the future. EV chargers were good though, that’s a plus I suppose.

Did not stay at the hotel which looks very nice, except for all the flies in the pub down stairs. No really, sat down to watch the England, Ireland game, supposed to be 22 players on the pitch, looked like 32 with the 10 extra flies on tje tv screen! I asked the manager, who was a lovely woman, is this normal? She said yes. I asked for fly spray but she said no with all the other customers, but i can move. We couldn't move because we were watching the game. Need pest control desperately.

Ordered it to our lodge, cost £50 for what I would say was a basic microwave meal that I could’ve got from Tesco for £3. We weren’t expecting the greatest but I wasn’t expecting it to be that poor for the prices that they charge. The curries alone were £15 and I’d say microwave meals have more in them than that did along with better flavours. Overall a bit disappointing.

Ordered Fish and chips and Steak pie and chips - along with 1.5 pints of cider. £34 and some pence. Fish was so wet the batter underneath was mush and inedible, the “chips” were fries, cheap frozen ones. Apparently the steak pie was good so that earned you 2 stars. There was no salt to be found anywhere but an uncleared table and that was so wet it wouldn’t come out of the holes (I took the bottom off and tipped it into my hand) I went in to tell them how unhappy I was with my meal, but the one lad who had been serving had gone and nobody covering.

I can only surmise that there may have have been issues in 21 but our lunch stop today was very enjoyable. On a wet miserable day this warm bright venue was perfect. We chose the soup and a coffee. Delicious tomato soup with tasty bread and a decent cup of coffee. Not the cheapest but quality food. Place was clean & the young lady who served us very friendly. Would be happy to visit any time.
