The best restaurants in Eden North West

Well, major disappointment. Had been for first time exactly a week ago and thought they were beautiful. Great batter, fresh fish etc. went tonight and yes it was at opening time but really wish had walked past. The fish was like rubber, tasted and looked old. The batter looked 3 days old and like it had been re fried a few times. The battered sausage hardly had any batter on. The one in warmer looked great but I was given a fresh cooked one but wasn't good. In there hard to work prices out also as various different prices. Last week we had said we would use it as our regular one, afraid tonight we have now said we will never go back to it

We've had several meals from here. The meals are generally ok but never what you order. Ordered prawn and duck szechuan tonight, no duck in the meal. It was not a szechuan more like dirty water curry sauce. Awful. Won't rush back.

Arrived here after a long drive from Southend, the state of the car park should have been the first red flag but went inside for food. Took a couple of menus and sat down, barman said he would be with us in 2 mins. This happened twice over a 20min period. Went to the bar where he was sat down chatting to folk at the bar. He then told me it would be an hour to get a starter as they were so busy. There was only about 10people in there!!! Walked straight out and went across the road to a lovely little pub that was more welcoming. The toilets were disgusting and the place was filthy, glad we never ate. Barman was not fit to pull pints never mind run a business!!! Avoid at all costs!!!

Lovely, friendly atmosphere and well looked after by our host Matthew. We’ll definitely be returning to this pub unfortunately can’t say the same for the goat down the road, whom discriminated against our hidden disabilities and refused service. This placed welcomed us without judgment and serves great wine and good music. Would recommend!

My mum and I walked 9km from Hilton to Appleby. We had never been here before so decided to pop in for some food and a cuppa. We were welcomed by one waitress very warmly, although were left disappointed by another who told us they weren't doing food yet (at 11.57am). We had to ask her when they were starting food, which wasn't until 12.15pm. 18 minutes too early it seemed. If it was me, I'd have said, "Let me take your order and we can get it ready for you as soon as we start serving." or even decided to start serving food 15 minutes early (the pub wasn't busy at all, there was one other table in) but the girl seemed very reluctant to do this so we just settled with teas. Lost out on a bit of business there I'm afraid.

Really tasty food I love the fast delivery definitely deserves a 5 star

I like the salts pepper crispy chicken is so tasty and chicken ball is very fresh , definitely will come again

No gluten free options available. They advertise baked potatoes but don't actually stock them? The staff memeber just shrugged and asked if we'd like.anything else. Then part way throught the order started chatting to another customer. Ended up going to the chippy for chips and cheese. Wish we'd gone there in the 1st place because they also do sandwiches, which everyone else in my family can eat. It's literally a short walk over the bridge and across a road. The sandwiches looked so much nicer. We know better next time and now so do you.

Tebay has gone Downhill fast. We have visited regularly over the years and enjoyed stopping as we go between Scotland from Wales regularly. We have noticed shop and food prices get expensive but we're prepared to pay for a nice break. However today may have bee.n our last call. The changes for dogs certainly mean they need to drop the dog friendly tag. You can't get a hot restaurant meal but now can sit in cold grubby tent in the car park. So today did not get our hoped for breakfast en route. We might as well have sat in our warn clean car! To cap it all the pricey take out pre made bacon roll was unimpressive at the price. As was the uncommunicative staff and their supervisor who was yelling " put your aprons on" at the staff.

Services are NOT dog friendly!!!! Big signs up stating dogs are not welcome! Only services I have ever seen this at! I will not visit this place again!!👎🏻

best takeaway in Penrith , generous portions , food is always great and large variety wouldn't order anywhere else !

Easily one of the worst dining experiences we’ve had in a long time. Came here on easter Sunday very excited for a roast. We were told lamb roast would be available—got there, sat down, and guess what? No lamb. No chicken. No pork. Just beef and ham. False advertising at its finest. Took forever just to place our order. Staff looked like they didn’t want to be there, barely said a word, no welcome, no menus, no cutlery. Just plonked us at the table and ignored us. When we did manage to get someone’s attention, it was like we were inconveniencing them by trying to give them money. Food came out fast (for once), but it was lukewarm at best. Sausage and mash came with no veg and cost £18? Seriously? Burger bun was dry and possibly stale, fish and chips were greasy and underdone. No seasoning, no flavour, nothing redeeming. Just bland and overpriced. Drinks? Also a joke. Guinness wasn’t poured properly (see photo), ciders weren’t even full pints. Embarrassing. To top it off, we were told to leave our table after just an hour and 20 minutes. The place was half empty—plenty of other tables—but apparently, they needed ours. For what, exactly? No idea. Maybe to keep up the illusion they’re busy. Desserts? Tiny portions. The pavlova was laughable—literally a scoop of ice cream on a shop-bought meringue so we sent it back. The manager then had the audacity to ask if we wanted to take them off the bill?! Tourism is the only reason this place is still open. We won’t be back, and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone unless you enjoy being ignored, rushed, ripped off, and served cold food with a side of attitude.

Stopped off for Lunch on the way back from a weekend break away. The staff are lovely and friendly had a roaring fire going so our jack Russell dog was very happy. The food was really good I had the Steak in ale pie and my Son had the chicken burger we both really enjoyed it. We would recommend and definitely return when passing again.

Really poor food - the rarebit was inedible - huge amounts of mustard was the dominant flavour and mustard wasn't listed as an ingredient on the menu! The food in the courtyard looked much better
