Lovely, friendly atmosphere and well looked after by our host Matthew. We’ll definitely be returning to this pub unfortunately can’t say the same for the goat down the road, whom discriminated against our hidden disabilities and refused service. This placed welcomed us without judgment and serves great wine and good music. Would recommend!

¡Consiguió una lasaña, y no parecía tener pasta! ! . Horrible. El personal del bar estamos muy bien. No puedo culparlos.

Bonito pub agradable.

We ate here at lunchtime as a family of 5, 2 adults and 3 children. We only had to pay for one of the children’s meals as you get one free with each paying adult. It was nice to see proper homemade meals as an option on the children’s menu as appose to the typical frozen chicken nuggets and fish fingers. I had the lasagne which was delicious, it was homemade and with chips, salad and garlic bread all for less than £10. My partner had the gammon steak which was equally as nice. The children enjoyed the same homemade lasagne and lovely freshly battered fish and chips. The portion sizes are generous making it good value for money. 5 lovely meals for less than £30.

Firstly, its amazing, I cannot praise this pub or its staff highly enough. We had been doing the round of charity shops in Penrith and wandered down Little Dockray St. There were two or three cafes and restaurants in the street but what attracted us to this one was that they clearly advertised vegan and veggie available on the door. The pub is completely different on the inside to the outside. clean clear lines, modern furniture yet rustic materials in abundance as well. I ordered a fish selection light meal for one and trish ordered the veggie light meal selection for one. The guy at the bar took our order and we only waited around 8 - 10 minutes for two of the most amazing plates of food a pub has produced for us. On my plate was fish strips, fried prawns, prawn marie rose, salad, real proper chunky chips and a half baguette to boot. On Trish's plate was deep fried battered mushrooms, cheese sticks in batter and all sorts of other veggie stuff and chunky chips. This is the first time ever that I have not been able to finish a pub meal because of the quantity. Both plates were stacked, with wonderful fresh food that was delicous. Topped of with a cup of tea and a pink lemonade the whole lat came to £17.25 well worth it, I would have been happy to have paid £20.00 for the food we received. The two members of staff were great, attentive but not overbearing and the whole experience 1st class. If i lived in Penrith, this would definetely be my local pub. Give it a go its well worth it and we will be back for more next month!!

We had a family meal at 5.30 this evening. If you want good flavour, no fat, melting roast beef, nicely cooked veg, lashings of gravy or gammon, egg and pinapple, proper homemade chips, or sizzling vegetarian sweet chilli platter this is the place in Penrith for you. AND for every adult meal a child eats FREE! We cannot recommended the General Wolfe enough, long may this last. Thank you Chef and staff, we will be back.

A Breezy lunch time walk in Penrith with Hubby and Dogs. Dockray Hall was packed so walked on further and came across this pub on a side road. Dog friendly and hungry tummies so decided to try. Friendly welcoming staff. With full menu on offer and Two choices of Roast Pork and Beef selections were made. Roast beef and Fish medley for one. A short wait - wasn't busy- during which the table was set and cleaned and the dogs brought a bowl of water and the food arrived. Roast beef thickly sliced tender and delicious and the trimmings very tasty with a home made Yorkshire Pudding. The fish medley very generous with Scampi, King Prawns, Huge Battered Goujons and Prawns in a Marie Rose Sauce Chips Lemon Wedge Coleslaw and a half crusty baguette! Delicious and excellent value lunch. Would definitely visit again. An unexpected Gem!

I have been twice here when passing through Penrith and the second I came back purposefully as the food was so good. Now on first impression walking in it has been very quiet and a bit unwelcoming with a slight 80s vibe the restaurant part. The dining room is actually quite off putting with its outdated décor and slate table mats stuck to the tables ( we won't mention how hard it is for those of you who like things in straight lines....) But stick with it (n the table mats did) Its a basic pub grub menu with all the favourites and we ordered a range of dishes from burgers, lasagne, fish and chips and scampi. On both trips here it has been outstanding. The lasagne is to die for as are the chips. The portion sizes will leave you rolling down the street afterwards. I am just disappointed on the general lack of atmosphere and welcome as it really brings it down. I do hope we just visited on 2 quiet afternoons. We will be back for food again though :)

We ate at the end of the bar area on a raised area under a sky-light. We ordered their homemade burger and a dish called 'Sizzling Chicken'. The chicken came out on a hot plate, sizzling so much that it sent the fire alarm off (but the staff did warn us of this!). Both meals were tasty with the chicken a particular favourite. They then had The Chicken Sizzler....wow....what can I say, it looked delicious and it was. I had chicken and chips but the portions were too much for me. My son's partner had the Chicken Kiev. It was over-cooked and she couldn't actually get her knife to go through it. She did say to the waiter that her chicken was very hard and he came back with an offer of a free dessert which she accepted. I would still highly recommend this restaurant as the portions and pricing are very good. It seemed a very popular eating place as there were quite a few groups in.

The meal was poor the chips half cooked,.a burger you could have soled your shoe with, and no salad available. To cap the afternoon delight in walked a crowd of about six people who insisted on being loud and using building site language in the company of their women friends. We left as soon as we could and vowed never to return to this establishment this is certainly a place to miss on your visit to Penrith. Other toilet clean but complete absence of loo roll and door stuck so had to chisel foot under door to get out. Seats in the bar covered in stains - could be urine, could be alcohol - but the owners obviously dont care what we think it is. Carpet by toilets ruckled up - major trip hazard and looks like toilets have flooded into the bar

There was 11 of us eating (3 kids, which eat free with a paying adult meal) steak and ale pie was delicious, Cumberland sausage came with sweet potatoe chips was good - gravy abit thick, surf and turf had a decent piece of steak, sizzling sweet chicken was tasty - just let down by the processed chicken instead of breast!I would eat there again and def go for the steak and ale pie

Little bit hungry so decided to have a pub lunch. Chose The General Wolf in Little Dockray PenrithAs the price of the food didn't seem to bad. Service was ok the girl who took our order could of smiled a little bit more. My wife went for the Chicken burger with chunky Chip. I plummeted for the Beef Burger with bacon in it. From order to when the food was put on the table was about 15mins. My Wife found her Chunky chips warm not hot like they should of been.My Burger had a burn taste to it. I removed the bun which the burger came in and found it was cremated as black as the night...

Ordered Fish and chips and Steak pie and chips - along with 1.5 pints of cider. £34 and some pence. Fish was so wet the batter underneath was mush and inedible, the “chips” were fries, cheap frozen ones. Apparently the steak pie was good so that earned you 2 stars. There was no salt to be found anywhere but an uncleared table and that was so wet it wouldn’t come out of the holes (I took the bottom off and tipped it into my hand) I went in to tell them how unhappy I was with my meal, but the one lad who had been serving had gone and nobody covering.

Me and my family went in for the carvery and at first the meat looked pretty good under the light of the food warmer, but as soon as it went on our plates it looked absolutely disgusting, the beef was blood red, the pork was 90% fat 10% meat, the gravy was like bog water and the roasties were raw. my daughter did not want most of the trimmings due to her being very particular with her food and the chef kept mocking her for not wanting any yorkshire puddings, roasties or stuffing balls which really upset her. Out of 8 of us, 2 of us enjoyed the meal and it was the only 2 people that did not have a carvery. Also the mashed potatoes had a strong taste and smell of cheese when we asked for a completely plain portion. But atleast our waitress was lovely, can’t say the same about the food or the chefs

Stood in a ridiculously long queue only to find no vegan options. Food choices extremely expensive. Restaurant dirty and no staff cleaning the tables. All in all a very disappointing experience.

We ordered Fish and Chips take out from Angel Lane Chippie on Saturday night when visiting Penrith. The service was outstanding as was the food. The Chippie shop is really cool with great decor and atmosphere. We loved the Fish and Chips with he spicy curry sauce. A must visit when in Penrith. Outstanding.
