Found this place on a whim after having no luck with busy cafes on a hot day. After looking at the lunch deal we decided to go for it, I wish we'd found it sooner! Great offers on at lunch time £9.99 for a meal with a drink. BLT & Cheeseburger both served with chips. Both super tasty and fresh! Portions very generous. Great for the value. Will be my go to place for lunch time.

Great staff. Kitchen staff were struggling due to a chef walking out but they all did a great job. Tall bald fella behind the bar was extremely friendly, polite and helpful to our family. Would 100% recommend.

Fish and chips were overcooked dry and chewy. Took it back and was offered a replacement or refund

Fried chicken cutlet was wonderfully breaded and crispy without being overcooked. Gravy that came with the chicken medley was the standout!

Lovely pub. Nice atmosphere and they low dogs. Was made to feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. Staff were really nice with fantastic service and food was great. Mario gave us his full attention. Definitely be back.

Such a charming pub — beautifully decorated with a warm, welcoming atmosphere that draws in a lovely mix of locals and visitors alike. It’s always been one of my favourite stops when visiting Penrith. That said, I was a little disappointed to see the legendary homemade steak and ale pie has been taken off the menu. It was a real standout dish — hearty, full of flavour, and something I genuinely looked forward to every time I came. The new menu is nice enough, but feels a bit more generic by comparison. While the food still tasted good, it just didn’t quite hit the spot like it used to. I left slightly hungry instead of delightfully stuffed like before. Still, a great place overall — just hoping that pie makes a comeback one day!

The pub was super busy but Mario still found time to entertain my toddler. Great service, great food, lovely atmosphere.

Everything was looking pretty good the ambiance was brilliant had some food here a few times I enjoyed my self the music was good I recommend this place, the staff was nice talkative addictive and very patience more mario what a legend!

Popped in on Tues for a quick bite to eat before I got the train home. Food was good and prompt service by debs who made my visit very welcoming .will most definitely call in again on my next trip

Been in twice this week - first time since under new management and both times I was served by lovely friendly staff. Both girls were smiley and friendly and made a big difference to our experience. I asked their names as I wanted to acknowledge how nice they were. Mel & Lorraine - hope we are served by them again in the future. Also a very good pint of Heineken 😊

We had 2 Great meals over Mother's Day weekend, Debbie made us very welcome, and the staff where friendly and attentive, would definitely go back Tom and Ruth Golborne.

Popped in today for a quick bite,was unsure at first as I had my dog along too,Was welcomed by the barmaid Debs saying it was fine and was polite,Food was good,Chose to sit outside which was nice.Will call again.

Food is really delicious, had a steak and ale pie, was really big and tasty. Stuff is helpful and kind particularly Mario, what a legend this guy is!

Stopped for a drink and some food yesterday lunchtime in the outdoor seating area. Lovely sun trap and nice food. Quick polite service.

We went to eat but didn't realise how noisy it was going to be (not the staff's fault at all, it was a Saturday at 6pm). The tables were very sticky and it was just too noisy to hear ourselves think. We told the staff we had a reservation and then had to find us a table but again, it hadn't been cleaned just cleared. Looks very nice and the food looked good from the website. Will try again if in the area, but not on an evening!

We visited this pub as we were staying in the Lakes and this was recommended by some friends . Well we were not disappointed. The service was outstanding, and the food was amazing. Would recommend to go here.

Went today for food..waited 35 minutes. They've changed menu a bit..I got scampi 5 bits..and I'd say macdonalds fries.my partner got steak pie.not homemade like they used too..disappointed. won't be back..why change something that wasn't needed..used to love the food..

Disgrace. Visited for 2nd time, got to say the gents facilities are terrible, unclean, smell disgusting, and dont know what was festering in the urinal

Food below average and nothing to write home about and portion sizes not big enough to reflect the price. My burger came with an added extra of some sort of pickles which wasn't described on the menu.

It's changed a great deal. The menu is a bit bland, the home cooked steak and ale pie we used to go in for has been replaced with a much lesser offering. American football on all the screens felt a bit odd. It feels more targeted to tourists rather than the good old local it used to be unfortunately. It's such a shame it was a lovely place to go for a good pie and pint. Bring back the Light Bite home cooked steak and ale pie under a tenner and all will be forgiven :)

Ignore all the positive reviews. They recently changed their menu and the food tastes like that discounted microwave frozen food you get at bargain shops. Seems like a good deal based on the menu prices, but the portions are laughable. The mac and cheese wasn’t enough to feed a toddler (and it was also disgusting). Atmosphere is fine. Staff was nice. Not a good beer selection at all and drinks are pricey! If you want to sit and watch a game, I guess it’s ok for that. But don’t come here expecting good food or anything more than an overpriced lager. Such a waste of money.

Listen to your staff. They are your greatest asset. Don't loose them.

This pub used to be absolutely amazing with the nicest atmosphere to be in. Came in with the relaunch omg what have they done the food tonight is absolutely shocking looks like my 11 year old child made.The only good thing going for the place is the fact of all the regular faces being still being there.

Really nice place. I only call in during the day when shopping so have never been in the evening. Good selection of beers and food, staff very friendly and helpful.

A nice pub with a good atmosphere? We only stopped by for a drink but were very pleased, staff very friendly, it was somewhat rowdy but to be expected on a Saturday night!

Great place. We dropped on it when in Penrith Xmas Eve. Looking for a bite to eat. 5 adults 2 Kids. Warm friendly place. It's a pub and looks and feels like one. Food was ace. Portions big and great value.

Ordered cumberland sausage but it wasn't just a pork sausage. Grilled tomatoes under cooked .I ordered steak and ale pie steak very salty and no taste of ale .only had one bottle of brewdog alcohol free on site .in all very poor.

Always welcoming and the food is good. They offer smaller plates (for smaller prices) which are great and we still feel incredibly full.

We had an amazing meal here… the homemade pate starter was just delicious and the steak and ale pie… honestly the portions were so huge. The staff were so lovely and accommodating. Would highly recommend this place.

Good atmosphere, decent pint, good for big screen sports

Penrith is a town where we transfer to another train to travel to other cities, but we wanted to stop for a beer here. We walked from the train station, which wasn't too far. The place has a nice atmosphere, comfortable to sit in, and offers a good variety of beer. Penrith is a city where we took the train to travel to other cities. But I'd like to stop and drink some beer in this city. We walked from the train station. The food at lunchtime was beyond belief. Hot, with more than ample portions and the quality of the food was as good as I would expect from any 5* restaurant. The team in side were extremely polite and attentive and would highly recommend anyone visiting Penrith to eat here

Went in for food and what a lovely place. Landlord what a lovely bloke. Spent ten mins fussing our dog. And the food was outstanding. Cannot fault this place. Hope to call again before we leave for home.

Definitely recommend this place in penrith North lakes could of fallen to sleep in here and Service was so good I wanted to leave a tip but husband said next time we come. I had a salmon steak done in a lemon herby butter with salad and chips and husband had a chilli burger with chips with a pint each.

Hint of nostalgia when we walked in as the floor was sticky....it didn't improve much from there on in. I ordered the 'cheese and tomato' quiche with chips.....it appears that the cheese was so disgusted with the raw pastry that it left th3 building as there was no taste whatsoever. The thin sliver of tomato was clearly embarrassed and lonely and the only thing that would have made the half a lettuce posing as a salad interesting, would have been a rabbit sitting on the plate to share it with me. The 'chips' seemed to be rejected roast potatoes? Very very dry and tasteless. My husband had the steak and ale pie and was delighted. Dont bother to visit if you don't eat meat

Friendly welcome from bar staff , easy , variable menus . Great value for money , fast service and the best cheesy garlic bread . Fish n chips were lovely and the steak pie was also a big hit . Would definitely return to this pub , nice to eat out and not be ripped off .

1st time visiting this pub and overall it seemed a good place for a few beers,staff all nice and friendly as I not from the area I found it Strange that the pub shouts last orders about 10pm on a Saturday.

Wow, great service in a lovely pub. The food was amazing and for the prices incredible. We would highly recommend this place. My husband also loved his Windermere ipa.

Sunday roast was very disappointing. Lamb and beef version both not very tasty, vegetables drowned rather than cooked of steamed. Enough food, but quality quite poor.

Seven of us went in today. Five adults and two children. We all ordered food, came piping hot and fresh within 20mins ish, we all ordered different meals and two of us where vegetarian. We was very impressed with the food, the customer service was great too! Went above and beyond which was lovely. Fantastic gin selection and my partner was impressed by the ale. Very welcoming and great place to go. Will definitely be visiting again!

No phones and no swearing are the rules

After not expecting much from a light lunch we were still very disappointed in what we received. We ordered a cheese and pickle sandwich and bacon, brie and cranberry baguette and two portions of chips. The sandwich looked like a child had made it and was very underwhelming with a limp salad thrown on the side with no dressing. After asking for the bacon on the baguette to be extra crispy it was almost as if this was offensive to them as it came basically raw. Again with a limp old salad on the side. The Chef “never saw the chips on the check” and arrived half way through the meal after reminding the waitress after she asked if we needed anything else. They turned up half cooked and covered in oil. We picked around the few actually cooked and left the rest. We felt sick walking out and all in paying almost £30 for this and two cokes we were extremely disappointed. There are lots of eateries around the town and there are much more to choose from so I would completely avoid this place. Just to add, there seemed to be a lot hilarity coming from the bar and kitchen area from staff and we gave up trying to get the attention of the waitress to complain so finished our cokes and left feeing to sick to even bother complaining in the end. Also, happy to see a casual uniform but hoodies and trainers just aren’t a good look when serving food and drinks.

Fantastic English pub with very yummy food.

If we are ever passing by we make a point to come here as I would say it’s the best steak pie I have ever tasted! Would very highly recommend this little pub for its warmth and friendliness and after a week of exploring the Lake District this remains the best food we experienced! Parking nearby was made so easy by the disc system you can pick up from the local shops. Thank you we will always return!

We're newcomers to Penrith. Our last town had no pub with food, and dogs weren't welcome there.Thank goodness for a place like the Board and Elbow! We turned up early on a Friday evening and took almost the last table. Had a lovely special Sausage Casserole and a Quiche. All came quickly and piping hot. All the staff looked like they knew what they were doing. No loafers or grumpies, either. Then we made friends with two local characters, so we'll have to go back!m

I had the beef madras which was very good, probably the best pub curry I have ever had. The chips were good too. A couple of good real ales on too.
