Came for lunch after a freezing rainy windy section of the C2C and the staff could not have been more lovely, they lit us a fire to dry our things and fed us very well- cannot thank them enough! Would highly recommend the food too!

Popped in today for a quick drink (a chilled glass of White wine) lovely traditional old pub, great atmosphere. Not many like this still around, what a little gem! It's August but the fire was still very welcome. Had a great chin wag with the young landlady who made us feel very welcome. Looking forward to going back for an evening meal later in the week.

We found this pub bed and breakfast coincidentally on a motorbike trip .t's warm and cosy with a wood fire, nice choice of beers, friendly staff and really the best (huge) breakfast we had all the trip! Very tasty We stayed in a room for one night, perhaps the shower room could do with a little update but overall really great place to stay with good value a fantastic food

Stumbled upon this pub by accident after a walk whilst camping, initial thoughts were a strong local pub vibe which is good,we felt welcomed and it has a nice atmosphere. A few decent beers on tap and the bar seemed to be well stocked up with spirits for cocktails etc. The main reason for this review however was the food which absolutely brilliant, I got a burger and chips and my partner got fish and chips, both great but the chips were arguably the best chips I’ve tasted, same with the onion rings. Great food and drinks and excellent value for money.

The Angel has been a fixture of Alston front street for over 400 years, and the new owners seem to be doing a great job at taking on the responsibility of running such a treasured and traditional pub (not an easy task!). Its a beautifully decorated and friendly venue that somehow manages to maintain both a calming and lively atmosphere at the same time, much like the town of Alston itself. I definitely recommend popping in to say hello, have a pint, or enjoy a proper pub meal. They also have great outdoor seating if you're lucky enough to be in Alston when it isn't raining.

The new owners are making this pub into a real gem. They have already transformed the lounge area and the beer garden and are also now offering special nights, great food and refurbished accommodation.. The new owners have sought views online as to what people want and have responded to these which shows their commitment to making the pub a success for all. If you’re ever in the area I can fully recommend the Angel for a great time with fantastic and friendly service and a good choice of drinks and food.

So pleased the Angel is open again and even better than before, lovely warm welcoming atmosphere with friendly staff and I can say the food is top notch after eating there multiple time over the past few weeks, only down side is that my bank acc statements are showing all outgoing to the angel inn lol. Plz don’t fall for the negative reviews as the new owners are doing a fine job of getting this lovely little county pub back on its feet but haters will unfortunately put one star with no back up comments as they haven’t visited the place. judge for yourself as I can’t see how anyone stepping foot in the angel inn will leave not wanting to return.

I love it here and I think if you're visiting the town you absolutely need to pay a visit to this pub! We stayed for one night on our C2C bike tour and had mixed experiences. The pub is great, cosy and a great atmosphere. Jody is very kind and offers good service. Bikes could be put inside. The room was clean and tidy, although the shower would be a point to look at, since there was not enough hot water for the both of us. And since it is early light in the summer morning, I would prefer curtains instead of blinds. Evening food and breakfast was okay, with a bit more attention it could have been great.

The propritier announced that she was leaving early and subsequently she left with no bar or any other service available until 9.00 am next morning. Our room had a blue light on it which we were unable to turn off this coupled with no curtains only blinds meant we were unable to get the room sufficiently dark to get to sleep. The shower was a joke with only a dribble of water. For what we oaid for the room given the standard of service it was vastly overpriced.

New landlords here as of Dec 2021 so went here for a family meal as it had always been good in the past but unfortunately things have changed. The portions were very small and after 3 courses we still weren't full. The food was ok but not amazing, the steak was ordered medium and arrived a shade more than well done, the burgers were juicy enough But it's a very basic burger. Service was a bit hit and miss, starters served then waitress walked off without giving us cutlery (had to go and find some ourselves). Mains came, (different waitress) put the plates on the table and started to walk away, we called her back to ask for sauces, she returned with a small pot of ketchup as if to say 'that's all you can have'. We came out the pub wondering if the chip shop was still open to fill us up! If you want filled up, try Alston house or Lowbyer that can fill you with one course or the Cumberland that can fill you with two.

Off to a good start, dropped in for lunch, friendly hello from the lady on the bar, got our drinks and ordered our food - we should have realised there was going to be problems as there was just one other family in the pub and they were complaining about how long they had been waiting for food and when it did come out only half the family was served the rest waited another 15 mins.We waited 1 hour 20 mins for 2 toasted sandwiches - I had one bite and left the rest, my partner ate half of his and left the rest too. Greasy and cold. Before we left I went to the ladies and was horrified the toilet was so dirty and the only thing to wipe your hands on was a dirty towel hanging on the back of the door.Wish I had visited the toilet before we ordered food. The only good thing was the friendly barmaid - will we return? We ate here whilst part of the coast to coast bike ride. We where seated and our food order was quickly taken however, we then had to wait a long time for our starters. When the mains arrived, we where informed that two of them would be delayed, both beef chilli, due to a problem in the kitchen. We presumed this would be 5 mins max the way it was portrayed. Once everyone else had finished, 30 mins later, we asked where these where. We where told they wouldn't be long but the microwave was broke. Not exactly what you want to hear when paying for a meal out. These then arrived and we all sat and waited for them to eat. These where not taken off the bill and no apology from the manager was given. The waitress was very apologetic and we could not fault her but the manager just seemed to not care. My boyfriend and I have eaten here 3 or 4 times now when visiting the quaint little town of Alston, and are always happy with the food. This time I chose the vegetarian lasagne which I had with boiled new potatoes and fresh veg (carrots and cabbage). The portions are always very generous (no room for a pudding unfortunately) and the food is hot and wholesome. The Angel Inn is a traditional olde worlde type pub (the likes of which are disappearing far too fast), is very quaint and has it's regulars seated around the bar of a Sunday lunchtime. We've found them to be friendly and the landlord is always welcoming. The food and drinks are very reasonably priced and this is one of our favourite spots to eat when visiting the area. We went in The Angel with our 2 dogs on the first evening of a week long stay in Alston. Having read the reviews we thought The Angel was going to be a regular eating place throughout our stay. We couldnt have been more mistaken. The blonde haired lady serving behind the bar couldn't have been less welcoming if she had tried. Other than a couple of locals we were at first the only clients in there. She wasn't rushed off her feet but not even a nod or a smile for us. We had 2 starters, shrimp in breadcrumb and 3 cheeses in breadcrumb. Both dishes were tasty, acceptable and a nice portion. Then I ordered one of the Specials. Beef in Red Wine. When this arrived it was sliced beef in gravy with a tiny taste of onion. No way was this red wine so I was disappointed with this. My partner had Boozy Beef Pie which he said was ok but he wouldnt want it again. With 2 soft drinks the bill came to £33.45. No thanks when we paid the bill. No enquiry if we had enjoyed our food. Complete indifference. I can only assume that local regulars get a warm welcome and give The Angel good reviews.

We found this to be very friendly local pub in a lovely town. Dog friendly. Three good local ales were on tap. We didn't eat here, but the menu looked very reasonably priced.

Very surly barmaid, terrible meals, I requested "half a roast chicken which was burnt & dry, absolutely awful, my wife had Lasagne which was mostly pasta & little meat. The salad that accompanied the meals was nice.

Staff very welcoming into the pub. We sat in the lounge bar and had food and drink. Had the Sweet Potato Curry which was on the specials menu. Quick service and the food was really good and great portion size!

Stayed here to break our journey from Central Scotland to the Peak District. Had a very pleasant chalet type room at the rear of the property with easy access. Enjoyed a drink and an evening meal in the bar with our wee dog. We both had the sirloin steak with was generous in proportion and quite tasty.Staff friendly as were the locals. Would definitely return.
