We were visiting as a special treat for our sons birthday.
The service from the waiting staff was very good and the food came out nice and quick.
This is an expensive restaurant, expect to pay around £50 a head just for the main meal so I was expecting good quality food.
However, I was very disappointed with the quality of my piece of steak. I always order rib eye and I fully understand this is a fattier cut of meat compared to say sirloin or fillet but the majority of the meat was inedible due to sinue and thick, white fat, the type that is never going to melt when cooked resulting in chewy inedible meat.
I did bring this to the attention of the waitress who then asked the manager to come over. She did apologise but then went on to say that it was just my ‘bad luck’ due to the cow! She went on to explain that all cows have different levels of fat and I had just been unlucky!
This is no way to talk to a paying customer and more so, insult my intelligence! I am shocked to have experienced such bad customer service from a very respectable restaurant.
On their website it says their philosophy is, I quote :
“Prime is built upon our passion for delivering both an excellent service and the highest quality of food.”
On this occasion, the service and quality of food did not meet their so called standards and I have been left feeling very let down and angry.
When I received the bill, I had still been charged full price for my steak which I was surprised to see as I hadn’t been able to eat it. I paid the bill including the steak because it was a family meal which didn’t want to spoil it and thought I would express my disappointment formerly.
I did email them but they never even had the decency to acknowledge my email hence why I am writing this review.
Had a takeaway which we collected and brought to the office. Various dishes ordered and everyone was hot, spot on and no left-overs. We order most Fridays and they have yet to disappoint! Highly recommend all their breakfast dishes - tried them all over time!
We are from Luton, living in Spain. Back for a family break we popped in for breakfast this is only the second review i have ever written but this place was worth it. Friendly young staff, great to see. Clean and well laid out cafe and good food. Menu looks good for lunch so recommend evryone to give it a go
Our first time at The Bull and it won’t be the last. The staff are super friendly and welcoming. Great choice of beer and wine and tasty selection of sandwiches served with chunky chips on the side. Very relaxed ambiance. Everyone enjoyed their meal and left happy. Would definitely recommend.
What a little gem - even in the cold drizzly weather it was both warm and welcoming - plenty of tasty treats to choose from - can’t wait to return in the warmer weather
Managed to snag an outside table with a view of the castle. The chai latte had real depth of flavour and the cappuccino was good. My felafel salad was very good and the felafel were moist instead of dry like in most places. My partners chicken and bacon sandwich was generously filled and all at a very reasonable price.
We’d deff go back here when next in Colchester.
Fantastic, couldn’t fault the service or food. Delicious seafood salad, and hubbie had the cheese and ham baguette, also very tasty. And the cake was fabulous. So pleased we stumbled across this lovely family friendly cafe. 😁
What an absolute gem! Such a gorgeous place, I wish we lived nearer. Such a lovely welcome and the best farm style sausage rolls we have ever had. It is immaculate, beautifully designed, lovely staff, and there is a yoga studio there too. I so wish I lived nearer as this must surely be the ideal place to visit to escape and relax for an hour or so.
Thank you so much for the life saving coffee and sausage rolls yesterday when we stopped by on our way past in desperate need of a caffeine hit and a snack. I so wish there were more secret places like this in rural Cambridgeshire. We will find a reason to return.
We all enjoyed the evening good food attentive staff not kept waiting friendly
Only criticism when we received the bill there was a extra charge of £34ish on the bill questioned this and was told it is the vat as not included in the price we were not aware of this but was told it is on the menu
When looking at the menu again it is written in the top left hand corner of the menu which none of us saw as we were just looking at all the meal options avaliable
So a dish that i chose which was £17 pounds will actually cost £20 40
I think the staff should tell you about the vat as it is misleading or revise there menu prices accordingly to include the vat
As i have never been to a restaurant before where they do it this way
Had a lovely Sunday Roast here today to celebrate Mother's Day, It was our first visit to this traditional local pub and we wouldn't hesitate to return. We had a delicious meal and were made to feel very welcome by the landlady Karen and barmaid Emily.
We will definitely be back and will recommend to family and friends.
We’ve been coming to this restaurant for years, and the food and service have always been excellent. However, the prices have become quite steep compared to similar restaurants in the local area.
They also have a branch in Canary Wharf, and it seems they charge the same prices at both locations. Unfortunately, London pricing in Loughton doesn’t quite work—it feels out of step with the local market.
While we still enjoy dining here, we no longer come in large groups as we used to. We hope the management takes a closer look at this pricing discrepancy.
Went to the Pasty shop to get a coffee using the coffee network voucher.
The member of staff a gentleman of exceptional height was extremely rude to me try to use the voucher. The member of staff exclaimed he was to busy to deal with my voucher.

It's not a Portuguese restaurant. It's a mix of Portuguese, English and Spanish food. I can understand the English food, since we're in England. But why on earth they play Spanish music and have tapas is beyond me. I suggest they try some French food, maybe they'll get more customers!
