The best restaurants in Uttlesford East of England

This restaurant was simply fabulous from start to finish. From the moment you arrive your greeter with a warm friendly reception and all staff are so super helpful. The food and drinks were excellent- hot and promptly served with a very authentic Italian feel to the whole environment. The chicken Milanese was superb! I highly recommend this restaurant at Stansted for its warmth and authenticity and of course for the wonderful service and fantastic food… I’ll be back !

Gorgeous room and atmosphere that really lets you relax. I loved the tea - especially their house blend which was absolutely divine. This would have been a perfect place if the service wasn't quite so crazily slow to bring your food, or even if it is slow then having the staff just let people know at minimum. When the food did arrive - it was really tasty. Thanks for a lovely lunch.

Didn't turn up. I presume I'll get a refund. Very disappointed! Friday night takeaway was ruined.

We had a lovely visit to the Butchers Arms where we found excellent choices on the menu. Between us we had fish and chips, roast duck and mezze (absolutely delicious and new on the menu). For desserts we had cheesecake, profiteroles, sticky toffee pudding and Eton mess. There was a large group in on the day we visited but the staff were amazing in managing to serve us all, always with a smile on their faces. We highly recommend the Butchers Arms and know that we will be returning again soon.

Cold breakfast, at the entrance they offer 7 minutes service after 20 mins food arrived full English with 2 toast , toast stone cold breakfast warm attitude of the server sad and miserable as he bashed his way through tables knocking over condiment tray . Defo a place to avoid

Excellent service, amazing place!

Known this pub for a number of years and a number of various landlords and had been disappointed in the past. However we hadn’t really been back since the end of Covid and another change of management, that is until yesterday! 19 of us to celebrate a family birthday, mix of adults and kids from 2-15 all having Sunday lunch. The staff were really friendly and very accommodating, the pub was really busy but all our meals came out together and was the best Sunday lunch I’ve had in a pub for a very long time. Nothing was too much trouble, they let us have our own birthday cake for dessert, supplied knife and plates and we had a lovely time. All roasts were huge and really tasty and I can recommend the added cauliflower cheese! Roast chicken was fab, the beef looked good too and good servings of veg and gravy. Thoroughly recommended!

Going through the checkout is extremely unpleasant. They take customers for simple wallets, really not pleasant!

Great place to go. I come here all the time and there’s no where better to go in saffron Walden then here. Nice priced drinks and food. Also the food is delicious. Will always recommend

Went for afternoon tea, had been gifted a voucher, and it was one of the tastiest I'd had. Finger sandwiches, mushroom flan, smoked salmon choux buns and coronation chicken roll made up the savouries, then on to the scones with jam & cream. We had a little breather then on to the little cakes - 5 each, incl a coffee macaron ( gorgeous) and salted caramel profiteroles, chocolate ganache & cherry flan, Victoria sponge & strawberry swiss roll. Couple of pots of Earl Grey to wash it down - yum! Our waitress was smiling & friendly - fairly busy for a Tuesday, but everything fresh. Will definitely return.

I arrived here today with my mother. We had planned on staying for lunch. We left after the complete and utter rudeness of this man! We were made to feel so uncomfortable that we decided not to stay. We moved tables and just wanted to let him know. We were told that he isn’t a teenager! He made us feel so uncomfortable and upset my 70year old mother so much that she still talked about it at the end of the day. No hospitality skills whatsoever so ever! More hostility than hospitality! How and why do they keep going if they hate people so much!

Have been here several times before and found it to be lovely. However on this occasion it fell far short. The waitress was wonderful but both my friend and I could not stomach the hideous mushroom and tarragon soup we had ordered and politely asked if we could have the other soup on the menu. We were told we could but would have to pay again! Sad to say they have lost our custom. We will never be going back.

We visited last week for a festive afternoon tea as we do every Christmas. It was a lovely afternoon tea, great selection of sandwiches, scones and desserts as well as a savoury treat. Staff were helpful and friendly but could have been a bit more attentive with topping up tea. However was a grata afternoon tea and would recommend.

My son in law had a surprise 40th birthday party. The venue was perfect. We had the function room with its own bar they provided delicious pizzas and we were able to take our own Buffett type food. The room was spotless and beautifully laid out. The bar staff were excellent . The children were able to play out in the beautiful garden. Thoroughly recommend. Hope to return soon for a drink and bar meal. Thank you to the licensee who made it all possible.
