The Garden Room at Down Hall Hotel in Uttlesford

Gorgeous room and atmosphere that really lets you relax. I loved the tea - especially their house blend which was absolutely divine. This would have been a perfect place if the service wasn't quite so crazily slow to bring your food, or even if it is slow then having the staff just let people know at minimum. When the food did arrive - it was really tasty. Thanks for a lovely lunch.

Ate at the garden room twice, both nights we stayed at Down Hall as part of a package. Overall the food was great - really interesting flavours, beautiful presentation and good variety. Some dishes much better than others, we really liked the lamb and the roasted leek dish. Deserts were the best part - stunning and delicious! Service was good. If we weren’t on the package plan the price would be a little hard to justify, but it was an all round great experience! Would return.

The food was delicious, dishes were clearly well thought out, and impeccably (and I mean impeccably) presented. Service was spot on, and the surroundings were elegant and comfortable. Although we were guests at the hotel, this restaurant is well worth a visit on its own merits. 👏👏

We stayed at Down Hall with my family and had dinner twice at The Grill. The food was lovely (so much so that we ended up ordering the same starters the second evening, as they were delicious) and the service was impeccable. The gentleman who suggested the wines was very attentive and remembered our choices the next evening. All in all, a very pleasant experience.

Decided to ignore the negative reviews and give it a try for a catch-up meal with my daughter, we should have avoided as the meal was ruined by poor service. Menu was very limited. The restaurant was only a third full. The waitress seated us then completely ignored us for about 10 minutes. Had to ask if we could order our drinks, bread basket and main meals. Bread came fast but drinks took about 10 mins to arrive and the food service took about 30 mins, which is far too long. They served my daughter the wrong meal, took 10-15 mins to replace with what she had ordered by which time I had finished my meal. The waitress asked if we wanted another drink on the house, I informed her that I had already ordered a second drink about 10 mins prior and still not received it! Drinks and one main removed from the bill. Two other tables also complained while we were waiting for our meals. Food was actually a 7/10 once it arrived.

Food was well presented and taste where gorgeous, there should be more choices on the menu on Sunday evening.looking forward to our two day stay
