The best restaurants in Uttlesford East of England

We came here for my birthday this year based on the menu we saw online and the fact that we’d come here last year and always meant to make it back. I called earlier in the day to check regarding children’s menu and a gluten free menu and was told not to worry as all food is made fresh and there was usually as a minimum a burger and fish a chips that fulfilled this. I enquired whether I had to make a booking for this afternoon and was told to just come down. How I wish We didn’t bother and chose somewhere Else. We were the only ones in the restaurant when we arrived and for a fair duration after, and was told that even though they opened at 5 they wouldn’t take a food order until 6pm. Which is of course fine, so we had ample time to prepare our order and was ready to order as soon as they were ready to take it! We the proceeded to wait 55 minutes before even a peek of food turned up and only because we had asked how long it would be after 45 minutes and again after nearly an hour. When the food came it was luke warm at best, so cold for other diners that it got sent back for a quick dunk back in some oil. Fish was so bland and watery, and the peas came in their own little bowl of water which was nice, nearly as nice as the 4 hairs that we found across the meals, naturally half way through the meal but we darent send anything back with 4 starving children and a very strong Will to get the hell out of there. Please- save yourself the pain of this place and go somewhere Else.

I found myself at Stansted airport last Friday with an unexpected four-hour layover in the middle of the day, courtesy of delayed Ryanair flights. I couldn’t bear the thought of spending that time loitering in the International Arrivals or Check-In areas prior to being able to check-in my hold luggage two hours before my rescheduled flight. Thankfully, I remembered that the Radisson Hotel is just a brisk two-minute walk from the terminal building and knew that their lobby bar / lounge would make for a more pleasant option to pass the time and have some lunch. Although the Wine Tower Bar is not the cosiest of places due to the extremely high ceiling and echoey atmosphere, seating is plentiful and comfortable, and the bar was extremely quiet at the time of my visit. The short Daytime Bar Menu offers good quality food and decent portions, though at admittedly high prices, but, in my opinion, at much better value for money than at the airport, where my “restaurant” choices would’ve been Burger King and Costa Coffee. My very tasty Chicken Caesar Salad cost £19.50 plus £1.95 service charge. Other guests nearby ate Fish & Chips, and the size of the battered fish was generous. There is an extensive beverages menu including cocktails and mocktails, Guinness on tap and, of course, the contents of that famous wine tower. A very good Americano and a Virgin Mojito came in at around £14, but were worth it for the sake of being able to spend my wait in the bar area and avoid the airport terminal chaos until it was time for my check-in. Kudos to Loveline at the bar who looked after me well once we got over our language problems – her accent and mine didn’t gel well.

As English Heritage members we call in at Audley sometimes for a snack on the way past. After our last visit in August I wrote to English Heritage to complain about the café but have not had any response so I decided to leave this review. My concerns were several - young staff with no supervision and rushed off their feet ( not their fault ). Food uncovered on a counter extremely close to where people were queuing and walking past. This is a serious hygiene matter. ( E.H. need to take a look at National Trust cafes ). Tables dirty full of used crockery and leftover food. There was a trolley for customers to use but tucked in a corner. Take a picnic, there are beautiful grounds to sit in and tables near the house which I might add is magnificent.

Es war grausam. Es wurde drinnen geraucht. Die Kellnerinen kammen einem gar nicht entgegen. Es riechte sehr streng und nach feuchtigkeit. Die Herren toilete war voll gepisselt. Frauen toilete war okay. Es gab nur Pizza mit Käse zu essen. Personal war nicht freundlich. Grausam! Glass war nicht sauber!!

This is my local Waitrose and staffing levels have become ridiculous, it’s becoming difficult to pay for your shopping, worse than Tesco.

I ordered lunch for my family and was not that hungry ordered a cheese and caramelised ciabatta the food came out and I bit into my lunch whete as a life long vegetarian 37 years they had given me a cheese and ham chiabatta wich was awfull I spat it straight out went to the kitchen and they had followed the order that had been wrongly sent through from front of house while I find this disturbing I'm gratfull that I did not have a food allergy. This is the second time this has happened 2 me hear luckily the last time was only earl grey tea over English breakfast. I tried to raise a complaint via Tesco website but there is no complaint section for the cafe so I jave sent a what app message to tesco asking for assistance less than impressed that I was given meat in my vegetarian option

Before I write the review I want to say we gave 3 different members of staff the opportunity to resolve our issues. Booked at least a month ago for afternoon tea. Once seated we received our pots if tea but waited 45 minutes for everything else. Sandwiches were not as described in menu, just cheese & pickle & ham! No offer of any extra required or a response to the menu query. Scones were ok but strawberry sponge very dry & small macaron chalky! Lemon custard thing came with no spoons! We were not asked if everything was ok or if we wanted anything else! The excuse being they were busy but everyone else appeared to receive their food in a timely manner! Very poor service and certainly not value for money!

This is my favourite pub in Essex x Great atmosphere ,friendly owner love the dogs and open fire. Good food. Great outdoor space. Lovely barstaff

We went here for our brothers wedding, the barn is perfect venue, beautifully set out.. spacious, big bar, good sized dance floor too! they catered for 150 of us very well.. the bar staff were awesome, very quick service- and the hostess\mangager was so lovely and attentive, very helpful while we preped the barn before hand.. and went above and beyon with the guest.. Thank you for an amazing evening!

One of the best places to get Chinese food from in the uk in my opinion, just a shame that it close to stansted social club that’s full of nonces

One of the best restaurants we have been to. We have visited twice, once for steaks and the next for Sunday roasts, and both were absolutely phenomenal!! Both times we have been served by Felix who really made our experiences- he is everything a waiter should be and more!! Could not recommend enough for great food, service and atmosphere.
