What lovely people. Nothing was too much trouble. We arrived having just met our daughter and her family from Stansted airport so there were six of us at lunchtime, we asked if they served food and were told it was either pizza or garlic bread, but if we wanted fish and chips we could go across the road and bring them back. We ordered three pizzas and a round of drinks. The bill was less than £50 and couldn’t eat it all. The staff were amazing particularly when our youngest granddaughter tried to trash the place! Even the other customers thought the children were lovely.

Stayed just down the road. Went here just for a light evening meal and a drink. Had such a good night with a couple of locals and some travellers. Don't get mislead by the exterior. Such a friendly pub

called in during a quiet Sunday with Aaron group of 10. We ordered the pizzas which are prepared fresh behind the bar. They are tasty and great value. In fact the menu board shows a wide choice all for 10 or 11 pound. Friendly staff who attended to our needs. Would recommend.

First time EVER in here, what a lovely woman the landlady is, I moved to the area yesterday, thought I would pop in, kept myself to myself....came up to me and started a conversation, quite a rarity these days, if you fancy popping in for a beer..... (my local in Hertford charged £4.60 for a Guinness, £4.00 a pint in here), highly recommended for a pleasant stop over. Places like this need all the support they can get....... we are all in this together you know!! Gerry

The bad news is that we broke down on the way home returning from Assington to Enfield. The good news is that we were next to The Four Ashes, a pub like pubs used to be, friendly welcoming (and they took our details as per COVID regulations). This pub is clearly at the centre of the local community and the hosts and many of the locals were really friendly. If only there was a pub like this near to us I'd certainly be a regular.

Been visiting the ashes for years, the new refurbishment is lovely and all staff friendly and efficient.

Since moving to the area 4 years ago I started to frequent the pub. After just a couple of visits I was on first name terms with the bar staff and a number of the locals. Always very welcoming and can happily walk in on my own and joint a conversation or go in my with family and have a equally great time, the beer Is great and there is always some great home cooked food on the menu. Good array of sports shown too. They have recently decorated the pub and it looks great.

Been here many times always with a warm welcome nice selection on beers on offer, good value home cooked food and fresh pizzas available all day a nicely decorated terrace area as well as oitside seating at the front of the pub......will be back soon 😀

Great little pub! Family and friendly orientated. Friendly staff and good home made food. 2 mons from the airport with direct bus links so ideal for travellers looking for a quick pint or food before flying.

Moved to the area 18mts ago visited a number of pubs in the area but this one caught me eye family run being new to the area I was welcomed and made to feel like I had been drinking there for years kids and dogs made to feel at home friendly atmosphere staff go that extra mile in particular the two daughters of the owner are friendly helpful and there local knowledge is priceless and the food is always timely and on point plenty to do pool darts and a great jukebox free play on Sunday's try it you won't be disappointed.

Ich war nur abends zum Trinken dort. Bier, Cider und Whiskey haben mir sehr gut geschmeckt. Ich hatte in Takeley in einer Pension übernachtet, da ich morgens ab Stansted nach Hause flog. Takeley ist wegen der Nähe zum Flughafen sehr empfehlenswert.

I stopped in here with my 2 children looking for a meal as our nearby hotel menu was not for us.There was a nice real fire burning and the place was warm, cosy and bustling with people.We were lucky to get a nice table close to the fire.The nice lady at the bar was very welcoming and explained that the chef was running late and would not he in until just after 7 - about 20 minutes time. However she said she would take our orders and fire up things in the kitchen to get them ready for when chef arrived.We ordered the Home Made Steak and Ale Pie and the Liver, Bacon and Mash. They also agreed to make sausages and chips specially for my son, even though it was not on the menu.Our food arrived at about 7:45 and looked great. My son announced that the pie was fantastic - and that he wanted to move around here so he could come and have the pie again!!! It really was very good with a generous amount of juicy steak chunks and a delicious gravy with extra gravy in a jug as well.My liver and bacon and mash was also very good and nicely home made with a tasty onion gravy.The sausage and chips were sausage and chips - not much one can say about that!The chips were crispy and tasty and we were all very happy with our food.The staff made us very welcome and even showed us a short cut back to our hotel.The place was nicely decorated for the festive season.We had an enjoyable experience here and we would certainly come back again.

Stopped at an in nearby before a flight from stanstead and was recommended to come here for food. I was very disappointed to find the kitchen closed at 6:30 on a Sunday, leaving us no nearby choice of food. The only food available was pizza 'one out of 4 toppings'. The waitress did not know the toppings (which is fine) but she checked them from a fridge, leading me to assume the pizza available is from the fridge and that does not seem nice. There is a wide choice of drinks, which is good. But the dark haired waitress/bar staff was very rude throughout the evening and looked annoyed to be serving anyone.Came out hungry and annoyed.

So as a local resident I thought Id treat the missis to a nice meal. Well the thought was there at least! We decided to go to the four ashes in takeley! WHAT A MISTAKE!!!! After being made to feel terribly unwelcome by the looks off the locals it only got worse once I got to the bar. The middle aged woman looked as if she had just dragged herself out of bed after a night drinking hard, not the image you really want to be greeted with when buying food. Anyway I gave ‘that’ the benifit of the doubt. Food and drink ordered. The beers were the best bit, if you are into drinking beer with the odd Foreign body floating around! Then the food, oh wow. I had pizza, hard dough ( when I say hard I mean it cracked when cutting it) minimal toppings and the tomato sauce on the base just didn’t taste right. After telling this woman, which I believe to be the owner/lease holder I soon came to realise I wasn’t going to get far. Her words were “well I’ve never had a complaint before so like it or lump it” I couldn’t believe my ears so swiftly paid up and left before I said something I may end up regretting. Maybe this was due to her assumed hangover as I do think she is also the chef. I don’t think Hygiene is on there to do list. At all. On conclusion the place is a dump and you would honestly be better off eating off a roadside pathement. I assure you!!AVIOD AT ALL COSTS!!! MB

Came in here as flying in the morning staying locally.Arrived at 9 so kitchen closed but offered curry and naan so opted for thatDrinks were very nice wine and Coors light curry was tasty but tiny portion and tiny naan.tried to order another but non left had to eat 4 bags of crispsNot overly welcoming in there but ok decor is very tired and toilets need a good clean

I recieved terrible customer service from both the waitress and the owner of the business. Both were extremely rude and had no respect for customers. Dull and depressing pub and I will never go there again. Would not recommend.

Stayed overnight in the area for an early Easyjet flight. Would have been better to have stayed London and taken shuttle which runs all day/night to Stansted. Pub was friendly but quite rough and as one of the locals told me “there’s not much around here”. No food when I went as the football was on, go figure.

A very pleasant evening. We are on an early flight the next day for Bens civil partnership stag do to Derek. We were welcomed as soon as we walked in and they provided food even though we arrived after the chef had finished, lovely steak. A great send off for Ben before his nuptials with Derek.

Room was spotless as was the bathroom. When I sat on the bed thought it was going to be squeaky but it wasn’t.

We are over visiting from Spain with family. We are originally from Wolverhampton so know the area well. We are staying with my son in Wolverhampton so we decided to go somewhere nice for Sunday lunch. We have been to many restaurants in this area but never to this little Gem. So glad that we didn't keep on driving by!! The staff are so attentive!!! The food, decor and ambiance was so lovely!!! . A proper lovely English Pub! We sat by the Roaring open Fire which made it feel very homely and special and enjoyed listening to the music in the background!! Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and we quickly learnt that it was under New Management, and this really shows as the attention to detail was superb!! . The food was all home cooked, piping hot and excellent!!. I have attached some photos but I don't eat the carbs so my Sunday lunch potoatoes and Yorkshire Pudding went onto the husbands plate!!! We will definitely return and I cannot recommend this place highly enough!! BRAND new management and staff!! DO NOT DRIVE ON BY!! You won't be disappointed ❤️

I went to primary school in Takeley and I've been here a few good times and it's great that you can relax with a refreshing drink and snacks, plus: you can watch proper TV including football.

Yo vivo en la zona y sólo hemos nos aventuramos aquí un par de veces. Hay conjunto básico de lugareños que frecuentan este pub y hacen sentir muy distante de cualquier otro. La comida es terrible y la decoración en mal estado. Es una pena ya que hay muchos nuevos edificios en la zona, un buen pub haría bien.

We have eaten at this local pub several times. I don't know why we kept returning; it must have been because it was convenient. Food not fresh and what wasn't microwaved was overcooked. Service was usually polite and décor shabby and not particularly clean.

Servicio muy amable y auténtica comida inglesa. No esperar mucho tiempo para la comida y era sabrosa, en mi opinión, típicamente inglés, exactamente lo que queríamos. Podemos recomendar este Pub si no esperar "haute cuisine", pero estás buscando verdadera comida inglesa.

Stopped here whilst cycling the Flitch Way having not found many places to eat nearby. We were very pleased with our lunch, nice bacon & brie baguette, just the right size for lunch and under £5. Seemed to be a place used by locals. Friendly service.

Il Four Ashes è forse l'unico pub della zona, i gestori sono molto gentili, buon fish & chips, discreta scelta di birre.

Sadly I was unable to complete a pre planned business meeting as the establishment no longer trades as a pub serving food !!

In walking distance (2,7 km) from the airport ( 5 min with bus). Its a genuine pub with friendly local people, and of course the selections of drinks you can expect. Very friendly man behind the bar.

its a dump,you pay before you even smell the drink your waiting for.its a pub for scummy old men to lure at the mushy peas.

Looking for my hotel, lady behind the bar very friendly and helpful.Its a shame the do not operate the hotel I stayed in, they could learn a lot from this lady's understanding of customer service.

There is a Blackboard outside the pub which clearly states Beer Battered Fish & Chips, eat in or take out £5.95. We went there last Friday night. The pub is dirty, has loads of flies flying about reeks of cigarette smoke and allows smokers to smoke in the two entrances. They also charged us 6.95 and not 5.95. The fish came broken and badly battered ian all senses of the word. We are told their kitchens are also very dirty. Never again
