As this is my local, I have to state that I am biased towards my review. However, I continue to say how good value for money and excellent all the staff are. I say this as I observe the staff interactions with other customers and it is always excellent with wonderful banter but with service foremost. Chrissy is happy to chat away when waitressing ,which is lovely, as are all the bar staff, even when busy. Over the years I have seen the standard and portions of food go up and down. Now is definitely an up and things are looking good. I would always recommend the Monkfield good value for money and excellent staff.

Arrived at 6.30pm but still waiting an hour and a half later at 8pm and told that there was a large table which took precedence and now 10 min wait on top of the 1 1/2 hour wait, so 8.30pm, 2 hour wait. Might I add I am sitting in the pub right now and no function room and not hugely busy for food

This is a lovely place to drop into for a coffee and a snack on a nice day. When I visited there were only 2 tables which were not outside so not ideal in poor weather, but on a warm day it is very pleasant.Hot snacks were available but I couldn’t resist a lime flavoured chocolate chip cookie with my Cappuccino. An interesting combination which seemed to work. The deli and greengrocers within the same complex were a bit on the expensive side for me but ok if you like that kind of thing.

Held a wake here in early December for 50 people. Chris was so accommodating and made the event seamless. The service was excellent, the food was home made, delicious and at a reasonable cost. Staff couldn't be more helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. Would highly recommend.

Our second visit in three. The staff were lovely friendly and helpful, the food was delicious and very reasonably priced, I had a couple of pints of Otter , a first class pint. If anyone gives negative feedback they must have gone to a different pub

I’ve been going Hot Numbers for years and it’s never been a cheap option but the venue and quality of food always kept me coming back. Sadly that balance has slipped away of late and the pricing on the reworked menu doesn’t justify the food they’re serving now. On my visit today I ordered the ‘new’ mushroom on sourdough and it arrived as a single piece of bread with a covering of mushrooms, which yes is what it says it will be but it was comically small and looked like something you’d get on a child’s menu. At £11 it’s just too much (in my opinion) and I’ll be heading elsewhere for a while. The plague of flies which are covering the lights on the upper floor isn’t particularly nice either, how no one who works there has thought to try and sort them out is a mystery.

I rated O’Reillys as a 1 because it was such a terrible lacklustre experience. The service and food choices were terrible. I raved about O’Reillys to friends and family now I’m backtracking big time. Never again! For the long trip up the mountain to experience sub optimal cafe and facilities. O’Reillys you can do better than this.

It was 8pm and my wife had sent me off to Tesco with a list of stuff I had no idea about where to look (apart from the blueberries). So, I disturbed a member of staff with a colleague who were on a computer. I asked where I could find one item. He stopped what he was doing and took me to where it should be. Empty shelf. He checked his hand held device and dutifully went to the storeroom. Unfortunately, they were out of stock despite the hand held saying they had some. I trundled off searching for the last item. Failed. Nabbed him again - straight to it. Top service. In fact, as I wandered off to pay, he saw me and asked if I needed any more assistance. First class - his name was Jordan. I hope his manager sees this and thanks him again for me.

We expect a landlady to have a certain brusque disposition, it rather goes with the territory when you're managing a pub. There is a very big difference, however, between a firm manner and overt discourtesy. Before visiting, I had read older reviews, but dismissed them as the usual village gossip and sour grapes. I'm afraid, though, that staff at the Cock Inn come exactly as described - gratuitously and randomly rude. Funnily enough, everyone else in the village seems happy with my manners; even the teens working at the Co-op can manage a smile now and then - it's just this one place. The building's interior and gardens are actually quite attractive - presumably this is the only reason they are still in business - but the architecture is not in itself enough to warrant a visit. If you are travelling any kind of distance, and especially if you are visiting with others who would be embarrassed if you have to walk out, you might consider choosing a different pub.

Accommodation was basic but ok, would have given 2/3 stars but have given 1 star as our booking included a full English breakfast, which we didn't get and the owner had no interest in honouring the booking. We were told the email was a mistake. We were offered a cold crossiant/yoghurt and juice. Really disappointed with response of owner and can't recommend.
