Tai Yuen in South Cambridgeshire

Paid over £11 for fish and chips. The fish was tasteless and chips cardboard not proper chip shop chips. Very disappointing and a rip off.

Probably the worst takeaway I've ever had. Every aspect of the meal for 4 people was beyond disappointing. The meat Singapore noodles I had had a chicken bone in it and very little meat and very little flavour. There was no soup on offer despite it being on the menu. The chips, sausages and fish were all low quality, poorly cooked and bland. They even managed to get the order wrong so had to sort that out before leaving, probably because instead of listening to our order she was going out about price rises! Will we go back? Erm, no I'd rather have a pot noodles!

Food arrived 20 mins after she said it would, and when I queried it the lady was extremely rude and suggested I should cook the meal myself!! Sweet and sour chicken had broccoli and cauliflower in it, which was bizarre and not welcomed. Been going there for 10+ years but we won't go again.

I use take out from this restaurant, know owner for many years and he stills supervise and cook. Fresh, no many artificial flavours. Love it

I have 2 words to describe my meal. Cold and Bland . Thought I'd try a few different dishes, tried to be optimistic but they were all bad, even the chips!! Thought I might have covid because I lost all sense of smell and taste. Spicy Singapore noodles, no spice,no colour , no flavour with a few bits of chicken and about 3 tiny prawns. Salt and pepper chicken, no spice AT ALL. And i couldnt get my fork into the few bits of chicken there was . Sweet and sour chicken balls , cold and bland. Sauce was like warm bland jelly. Chips, cold and hard like the last ones left at the end of the night . Ordered meal around 6 on a Friday night so I expected fresh and hot. The only Chinese takeaway for miles around but I'd rather drive 45 minutes elsewhere than order from them again !!

Wow. Was heading home for a cheese sandwich then saw the lights on in the takeaway. Fair to say the cheese sandwich would of been better. Chips still raw-frozen Chicken tasted stale Veg raw Could cut the curry sauce with a knife. Fair to say it was a little disappointing. Menu with incorrect pricing No physical menu Won’t be back. Pass the cheese please.

Always used to be a family favourite, but last night's takeaway was awful. No current menu, no current prices. The crispy duck, was undercooked, very fatty and padded out with some sort of cabbage. Even the sauce was half measures. The best of the four dishes ordered dishes was the prawn crackers. No receipt given for what seemed a very high bill for what I ordered. And no takeaway menus available. On hindsight that doesn't matter, as I won't be going back.

We have used this Chinese for years. Always been our absolute favourite. I honestly couldn’t believe what we had tonight. It was absolutely awful. The portion sizes are tiny, and all padded out with vegetables. Nothing had any taste, the sauces were watery and nothing had any colour. The biggest disappointment was the salt & pepper chicken which used to be packed with flavour, garlic & chilli. There was honestly nothing. The prawn crackers were tasteless and chewy, like they had been sitting on a shelf for 10 days. I have never ever had such an awful Chinese. It was meant to be a birthday treat, but we spent the whole meal all complaining about the food. I am usually not one to complain. Honestly, if I was round the corner I would have taken it back and told them exactly what I thought. I understand times are hard, and corners have been cut, but this was literally inedible. They must be loosing so many loyal customers, I for one will never ever go back here, and as I said, have been a loyal customer for years.

Good food but service was a bit slow

WHATS HAPPENED?!? We have been regular customers at this Chinese takeaway for years and it was always such good food and extremely consistent. However recently it’s really gone down hill. The satay vegetable dish was extremely watery and had no flavour. We ordered 2 different portions of ribs. One of which was extremely over cooked and the other was basically raw in the middle. Both ribs were completely tasteless. Sweet and sour sauce was very watery and didn’t even taste sweet. Just really vinegary. This was by far the worst Chinese we had ever eaten and it’s such a shame as this place was once the best Chinese around. I’m not sure if maybe the ownership has changed or something but I would’ve rather eaten what was in my dogs bowl tonight.

Awful Chinese takeaway. Served cold. Over priced and not the correct pricing on the menu. I was told the prices had gone up after I ordered. I ordered chicken satay, it was rubber chicken with no sauce. All the portions of food were half the size. Barely any meat. I can honestly say the worst chinese I have ever eaten. An absolute rip off. How they are getting away with serving that to customers is unbelievable. Im not one to complain but don't waste your money going there.

Don’t bother! Food was shocking. Have rated one star as can’t rate zero stars. Haven’t ordered from here in around 6 months and the food has gone down hill and the price up hill! Portions are nearly half the size they were, the quarter duck which we paid £11.30 for was half fat, and the ribs were disgusting! Mostly fat too. I couldn’t even get a new menu to check the price as they didn’t have any printed. The woman said they cost too much to print! Each dish we ordered has gone up by at least £2 each. I know prices have gone up, but not by that much! Meat dishes were more vegetables than meat, if I wanted vegetarian I’d have ordered that. I ordered extra pancakes and they were not included, noticed before leaving luckily, then she had the cheek to tell me it should have been an extra £4.50 when I’d already paid! I paid far over the odds for tonight’s takeaway which has left me very disappointed as it was supposed to be a special treat for the family. Paid nearly £17 per person.

There doesn't seem to be a restaurant there anymore. In any case, it wasn't open today, Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. But there is a takeaway. Instead of the pasta with mixed veggie tables that I ordered, my wife had pasta with chicken. This also explains why the bill was one pound higher than what was shown on the card. Tip: Check your order on site.

Enjoyed the food we got from here although they messed up the order, and left out two of the dishes which we only realized when we got home. It's good food though and we will definitely eat from here again.

Claims to be open on a Sunday, but phone unanswered and no outgoing message. Food was good when it was open. Is it closed for good? Update: Tried again on father's day, quick service and excellent food.

GOOD FOOD when they serv it... Ofter doesn't answer at the phone, but if you go there they will be open and food ready in 5 min.

We were the only diners during our visit on a recent Saturday night. The food was over-seasoned, but largely tasty, the service was on the verge of unfriendly (although I must admit, we made a bit of a hash ordering!) - but the main problem is the depressing and outdated restaurant, complete with paper napkins and a strange ambiance formed by a pleasant traditional piano piece on repeat, segueing painfully into Saturday night radio. Would be good for a take-away, but not a further visit without renovation and some thought about creating a dining experience.

We have been getting a takeaway from here for many years. The last 6 maths the food has really gone downhill, the food is cold, the chicken in the noodles very sparse and the chips are greasy, floppy and been reheated I don't know how many times. After our food tonight we decided it will be the last time we get anything from there again, I wouldnt serve up food like that if it was my buisness.

I listened to my friends who worked there before saying that the kitchen was dirty and the customers food that those people couldn't finish boss was given to other people takeaway. So I didn't dare to go to this restaurant, it was very unsanitary.

Esta noche llegó el pedido sin las salsas para 2 de los platos e insistieron en que teníamos que regresar (15 minutos) para recoger las salsas, pero ya habíamos servido la comida en nuestros platos, lo que provocaría que la comida se enfriara. El personal discutió y gritó entre ellos, antes de decirnos de manera muy agresiva que no hay nada que puedan hacer y colgó el teléfono. Personal muy grosero y negocios mal administrados ahora.

My family have been ordering food for 25 yrs from here. For the 4th time in the last couple of months we’ve haven’t received full order of food or sauces and have had a human hair within then chicken balls. Tonight order came without the sauces for 2 of the dishes and they insisted we have to drive back (15mins) to collect sauces but we had already dished up the food on our plates which would result in the meal going cold. The staffed argued and shouting between themselves, before finally very aggressively telling us that there is nothing they can do and hung up the phone. Very rude staff and poorly run business now.

Great Asian food from authentic chefs, worthy of 5 Stars. However waiting staff need to understand when attending a new customer at table they cannot rush off to front of house, mid order, to take a 'Takeaway' order. VERY BAD FORM. Tai Yuen have now lost at least 2 returning clients.

Great food and quick service. I liked the food so much I asked if I could have some more, so I bought a takeaway of the dish I had (Singapore Noodles). I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Tai Yuen to anyone.

Fish and chips are super greasy but lovely fish. Chinese is delicious, could live on the prawn crackers. Now shut on Mondays which came as a bit of a shock as are the new double yellow lines outside.

DO NOT GO HERE!! My husband and 4 year old went here last night. My husband told them that my son and him have an egg allergy and they served him egg fried rice. When asked about it they denied it when clearly you could see specks of it. After 2 spoonfuls you could definitely tell it had egg and my son was feeling very ill and my husband too. When my husband complained they were very rude, still asked him to pay for what he had eaten (other dishes), they said don’t return here. I’m shocked at this. A sample of food was taken and will be reported. Terrible and shocking.

Nuestros padres ir aquí con sus amigos y siempre nos dieron una comida agradable, así que decidimos ir, ya que sólo he estado una vez antes, el estilo buffet (pedir lo que desea, pero tanto como quieras) es genial. Los aperitivos eran muy rápido y muy agradable. El pato también estaba bien como segundo plato, pero la red no era tan agradable. Todo en el restaurante necesita trabajar. La alfombra es pegajoso como entras, las cortinas de red son marrones o no, se supone que no es el lugar tienen una sensación de limpieza. La decoración en general podía hacer con un poco de cuidado, incluso un bloqueo de pintura limpia y hacer que el mundo de diferencia. Las sillas de todos chirriar. Las bebidas eran planas y agua servida en vasos sucios. La comida es realmente mejor de lo que cabría esperar de este restaurante cuando vas así que pruébalo, pero mucho mejor si lo hicieran el trabajo.

Staff is definitely not friendly but still charge you for service £6.50 in deal eat as much as you can!Decoration inside stopped in 90's definitely need improvement especially toilets. Food served after 5 minutes so definitely not freshly prepared ,each dish too salty probably to buy more drinks. Each dish with chicken prepared pretty much the same but with different sauce. For two adults and child bill just under £80 there a lots of nicer places with better food and cheaper in Cambridge.Do not recommend!

My Wife and I have used this restaurant for many years and keep coming back for the takeaways. The food is excellent and consistent, and I can highly recommend it. Eating in can be a bit lacking in atmosphere but the food, great service and good value makes up for it..

Been in on two occasions now to order takeaway and both times have been thoroughly disappointed. Food isn't awful but the service is disgusting! Rude woman on the front desk and answering the phone. Very abrasive and cold. Will never be going again and will never recommend to anyone. Will be travelling half hour to the nearest good takeaway from now on.

My family ordered a takeaway from Tai Yuen, and it was great. The menu is extensive and well organised and placing an order is super easy; the staff ar friendly and organised. It feels like a well run family business. The food was similarly good, in particular the Singapore noodles. We will order again because it was slick, easy and very nice food.

I went into the shop to order a take away and waited. I was served by a child who seemed to be coping with taking orders but it was quite busy and there was a confrontational woman also serving. While I waited 1 person had an item missing from their order so had to wait for that to be added and the young girl was shouted at in front of the waiting customers for this mistake, one person got completely the wrong order and although he had phoned had to then wait while it was sorted and a lady who had taken her order home had returned as it was incorrect. She was then argued with until the lady was so exasperated she walked out. I was not hopeful. When my order eventually came after half an hour (I was told 10 minutes which seemed optimistic) I went through my order and she agreed that was what was in the bag. However (you guessed it) when I got home I had 1 correct dish (hooray) and 4 incorrect dishes - one of which I couldn't identify. I was 5 miles away so couldn't face going back so ended up very disappointed.The service was absolutely appalling with extremely unprofessional staff.I will not be returning.

My husband and I use the take away frequently. We often go here for special occasions.Food was delicious, service friendly,although the decor is a bit dated it was as always a great evening out.

We have been coming here for a number of years. Not usually a fan of chinese buffets, but this is cooked to order. You can gave as many starters and main courses as you like, plus choice of crispy duck or lamb with pacakes, for about £20 a head. The food is first class.Sometimes a bit lacking in atmosphere, but the food makes up for it

Family trip celebration. Food excellent ,service great even though the restaurant was full and only 2 staff. Think the kitchen was struggling a bit with take away people waiting for an hour for their food. Wait in restaurant not too bad. Price of drinks eg diet coke far too high but everything else ok

Had a family trip out to this "eat as much as you like " dining experience. Ordered a selection of starters off the menu these arrived quickly and piping hot. Next was the crispy duck no mock duck again for our veggie friend so this turned out to be quite bad value for him at £19.95. Veggie had noodles and various veggie main courses and sides while the remaining 5 of us had sweet and sour chicken. All dishes of rice and noodles arrived with 1small dish of sweet and sour chicken not enough for 2 people let alone 5. Had to keep reordering which meant waiting for the dish to be cooked again.Service started well but gradually got worse throughout the evening and they weren't even busy. Decor is tired and rundown needs perking up.Will go back again because when the food comes it is really good.

We booked a table for 19:30 on Saturday evening as we thought as it was Bank holiday weekend they might be busy! We arrived and we were the only two in the restaurant. They put us on a small table for two which we understood and thought all the other larger tables must have been booked. Not one other person came into the restaurant that evening while we were there. Would it have been so bad to have given us a larger table? As for the food! all the prawn dishes have been taken off the menu as the sticky label had blocked them all off but the price remains the same? No way as good as it was and the empty restaurant proved other people must think the same.

I go to their restaurant quite abit and have no problem with that side, very nice food.However when ever I use the Fish and Chip shop side I have a couple of grumbles. First of all the prices are really high, £1.80 for a battered sausage!!!Their large chips are no bigger then their small chips, yet the large chips are an extra 40p.But to top it off, tonight I went and got 2 small chips and both portions had hair in them. Not just 1 hair but 4/5.Needless to say both portions went in the bin.As I say, the Chinese side is lovely and I would recommend it to anyone. But I shall never be returning to the fish and chip shop, I would rather go out of my way and get portions without the added hair.

Visited this restaurant on a Friday evening with my husband. The restaurant was busy but service was still quick and friendly. We opted for the 'all you can eat' and there was a good selection. I felt that the chef had been a bit heavy handed with the soy sauce in almost all the dishes, but my husband did not agree so I guess that is just personal taste. I would probaly visit again if I was in the area.

A friend and I visited this restaurant whilst staying in nearby Cambourne. It was a Friday evening and the restaurant was not very busy - I think people are missing out on a well kept secret! We opted for the £19.50 eat as much as you like and chose a platter of mixed starters to begin. The food quality was excellent, it was served hot and tasted very fresh. All was delicious. We then had the crispy duck which was equally as good, followed by a selection of 5 main dishes by which time we (sadly!) could eat no more although we could have had more of anything we wanted. The service was very good too. The restaurant did not have much particular character but the food made up for this and makes it well worth a visit. Probably one of the best chinese meals I have had!

Staying in the area and enjoyed the buffet here last night. There is no other option but you can order exactly what you want from the menu, plenty of starters and mains to choose from and they will bring more dishes once you have eaten your first choice. Food was good, service excellent but the restaurant lacks character and atmosphere, possibly because it is also offers takeaway service.

Wanted a quick and convenient Chinese Take Away and looked at what was available and chose the Tai Yuen. This is just up the road from Bourn, where I was staying, which made it even better. The restaurant is located in Toft. We had four mains, some lovely thin noodles, which you cannot always get, and egg fried rice for £7 a head. This is pretty good value. All the meals were tasty, I had a go at all of them, and were obviously cooked using fresh vegetables. The pork and onions, which I chose, had plenty of pork which blended well with the sauce and the onions. We also had the House Special Curry, Peking Sweet and Sour Chicken and Szechauan Chicken all which looked great and tasted fine. An added bonus is that they were cooked in about the same time as it took us to have a couple of drinks.

Ordered here several times now and so far it's one of the best Chinese I've ever had! The service is quick and large orders are quickly dealt with , thank you to the staff you're doing a great job keep it up!

My family happened on this restaurant by accident when attending trampoline classes at a nearby Village College. It is located in the tiny village of Toft some miles from Cambridge. There is a vast range of starters, and you can have as many as you want. This is followed by crispy duck or pork and pancakes, and the choice of main courses is also impressive.We have eaten here many times and never had one disappointing course, and it is very reasonably priced given the quality. Very friendly staff and good parking facilities make this a great place to eat.And they have an adjoining fish and chip shop, which serves quite the best cod I have ever tasted.

This is our favourite Chinese restaurant! All it needs to make it perfect is a few more customers. Very good all you can eat deal, delicious food, friendly service. We come here with the children for a treat. The only problem is that we eat so much we then can't move. Highly recommended.

What an excellent find! Delightful restaurant. The welcome received on arrival was extremely warm without being affusive. The menu was varied and had something to suit every taste. When the food arrived it looked good, smelt appetising and tasted beautiful - cooked to perfection and really very fresh. The service was excellent - the waitresses and wine manager being attentive without being intrusive. They also do take-away so not only will we be returning to the restaurant, but will be using the takeaway service too. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys a good chinese meal.
