Appalling customer service experienced here today. When ordering we said my daughter had a dairy allergy and could they make scrambled egg to accommodate this. The scrambled egg came out and looked quite milky so went to query if it had milk in. Was told yes it did and I responded by saying but we asked for it to be dairy free. Without any offer of apology, the lady serving went into a confrontational and completely unnecessary lecture about how we should have specifically said 'no milk' as saying 'dairy free' wasn't specific enough. I told her that was ridiculous but she refused to back down and offer any sort of apology or offer to change the order. I was absolutely perplexed at her atttitude. She shouldn't be working anywhere near food. I asked for our money back which she refused and went to speak to her manager about me. She just walked away and put her hand up with her back to me telling me to go away like a juvenile (despite likely being in her 50s or 60s). Another customer commented how ridiculous her attitude was. Thankfully, the manager was excellent and offered our money back and the dish we ordered. He bought it over himself and said the staff member in question had and attitude issue. Unfortunately by that point, the damage had been done. Her attitude could have caused serious illness to my daughter - thank goodness we checked even though that shouldn't have been necessary. Would highly recommend avoiding this cafe, especially if anyone has an allergy.

Was very well looked after and made my brother's birthday a special occasion. Staff were friendly and attentive. Special care was taken to set up a bottle of bubbly before we arrived. Care was taken checking for allergies both on arrival and when taking the food order.

The place was a little run down but the food on the buffet looked nice.

Having stayed two nights, Saturday and Sunday along with another couple we found the venue to be like a curate’s egg. When Googled, the establishment is designated a 4-star hotel, it most certainly is not. We had rooms numbers 4&5. A major security issue was found that our key for No. 4 ALSO opened No.5 . Good job we were not strangers in adjacent rooms. Both rooms had no hot water to the bathroom sinks albeit the bath and shower did? When brought to the attention of the young girl who had the role of “deputy manager” I said we expected an appropriate adjustment to our bills for the inconvenience when we left. We were subsequently informed that, having spoken to both the “in absentia” manager and the owner, the response was that there was nothing wrong and everything was as it should be. No one could be bothered to even come to the rooms and see for themselves. Accordingly, no reduction was offered or made. Housekeeping was below par, toilet roll not replaced, only one fresh bath towel for two occupants and if anyone can be bothered to look up at the bathroom Velux window, the cobwebs are a sight to behold in Room 4. Breakfast on Sunday was a muddled affair. Having ordered tea we had to ask for cups, out of four, one was chipped another dirty. Teaspoons also had to be requested. When orders were taken, told no white bread, we have run out so only brown available and I was then given an extra half of tomato to make up for the mushrooms that were also found to have run out. This was all down to the supplier apparently. Monday morning started with the same story of shortages plus salmon was now added to the list of shortages. By chance, the white bread and mushrooms arrived in time to amend our orders as originally intended. I find it hard to comprehend that the establishment has not only a manager who has such a laissez faire attitude but moreover, also the owner. Good luck with that going forward . On a positive note, we all found the quality of the food to be good and the pricing sensible. We could not find enough positives with the Red Lion Inn to make a return visit at all likely, sorry.

The venue is lovely and staff too. There were two vegans in our party of seven who didn’t have such a good experience in terms of food: there was only one main choice - gnocchi - which was sitting in a greasy sauce with a green oil all round it. The waiter kindly took it away and removed it from the bill. The other vegan opted for a small plate of hummus with ciabatta, which was fine but not what we look for in a dinner experience. Sadly, despite the great venue and staff, I doubt we’ll return because of the vegan food.
