1st time visit, food was great, our server Joe was very cheerful and friendly guy,we had Sunday lunch and will be returning and recommending to our friends & family very enjoyable afternoon....

We had our dog with us and every member of the team made her welcome, starting with a friendly pat and a bowl of fresh water. This made it relaxing for us. The service, food and ambiance were super. Special thanks to the chefs, the chocolate delice was excellent. Thank you.

What a lovely find! My Son and I decided to stop for lunch after a hospital appointment, and was pleasantly surprised. The pub itself is a charming olde world building, with an interesting history scribed on the reverse of the mouthwatering menu. The delightful conservatory style restaurant, looks over the rose garden set with a large, central, stylish pond, and I feel sure this will look stunning in the summer months, as the sliding glass doors open fully onto an additional al fresco dining area. The menu along with daily specials, and an impressive 2 or 3 course set menu was inviting. MY son chose whitebait to start, followed with massaman curry with chicken, chickpeas, sweet potatoes and spinach, which he devoured. As a lightweight, I only had a main course of Fresh Cod served on a herb potato cake, surrounded by crushed peas and a tartar dressing, it was superb! All washed down with a glass French malbec. The staff were polite and courteous and we thoroughly enjoyed it. It's an absolute must if youre in the area.

My friend and I were staying locally and found this pub, so glad we did. Fab welcome followed by attentive but not intrusive service and delicious food. Would definitely visit if I'm in the area again. A great find. Recommended 👌🏼

Cannot fault this place. The food was delicious, perfectly cooked and well presented. All of the staff were the right level of attentive, engaging and polite. The atmosphere was great and the decor well chosen. I especially liked the audio from Blackadder playing in the toilets. If you have a chance to go here, do not pass it up.

Went for a Christmas meal and had the vegetarian option which wasn't great. A whole bowl of lentils and a slice of cauliflower on top with some dahl source and was bad for the stomach the next day. I would say the sticky toffee pudding was brilliant though.

The atmosphere and location are lovely. The food is a simple menu so I expected the dishes to be done exceptionally well but sadly the massaman wasn't much better than a Vesta curry and the starters just lacked for class.

Joe was absolutely fabulous, such a lovely man and added to our experience completely. Very knowledgeable about the menu and always served with a smile. Could not recommend the Tickell or Joe enough!

Been a few times and would recommend.

I gave 5 stars to atmosphere as I did only visited place for the "pint" with my colleagues. We done it in a early evening, was a lot of sun... I wouldn't mind to have more of the big umbrellas for the table, actually. Member of staff were collecting empty glasses (thanks! ). We were sitting in the garden. However, there are couple of tables in front of the building and I'd personally prefer to occupy those tables ...there's more cozy.

Just had the braised beef, let's just say I had a knife, but didn't need it in the slightest! Absolutely delicious 👍

Lovely all round...charming place

Friendly staff throughout. Some interesting beers on tap! Every dish was well prepared, flavoursome and reasonable value given the ever increasing cost of eating out.

Sad to be leaving this review since we have been regulars for the last 5 years. We have had quite a few bad experiences recently, but the last one has been dreadful. Service terribly slow or inexistent and food completed flavourless and raw, had to be returned to the kitchen.

Delightful lunch with friends! We have cycled past many times and finally made it! The staff were thoughtful and helpful, seemed unrushed (they were busy) and we weren't pressed to leave. The surroundings are lovely as is the food. The fishcake was simply gorgeous, as was the cheesecake. I can't wait to return for an evening meal or Sunday lunch! Update : Since the above we've returned several times and not been disappointed! Last night was another lovely meal. The blade of beef being a highlight. Not much on the menu for a vegetarian, with 4/7 items on the mains section being beef.

Friendly and professional staff. Nice welcome and a good selection of food. Everything is tasty, well presented and decent portion sizes. Not cheap but hey it's Cambridge!

Went yesterday (Wednesday)and had a really good experience. Food was excellent and exceeded expectations. Service and atmosphere great too. We aren’t local but would definitely go again.

Very tasty Sunday roast, with the option for a gluten free roast and quite a few gluten free desserts to choose from as well.

Walked up from Holiday Inn Express. Entered and it wasn’t busy a few locals at one end of the bar but bereft of staff. After 5 mins or so I asked a local if they had seen any staff and the reply was ‘yeah they’re about’ ok waited another few mins and a chap appeared at the side of the bar and seemed ‘busy’ shuffling menus. He has seen me but didn’t acknowledge at all, so I turned and left. My advice is no to bother and go somewhere else at least you will get served. If it was possible to give a zero rating I would

Delicious food pub. All layed up for dinner. Cod was perfect. Staff and service is exceptional. Would like to go back for lunch, grounds look intriguing. Minors, the chiar I had was v uncomfortable, swapped with my son who said the same. And for a foodie place, was surprised the table was layed incorrectly, side plates were on the left. Limited menu for vegetarians (1 main).

One of the best roast dinners I've ever had! Great atmosphere and lovely friendly staff. Little village on the outskirts of Cambridge. A few miles away from Duxford if your planning a day out.

I had a very nice meal here. My only gripe was that one of our number had to wait several minutes for her food, by which time mine wasn’t hot enough …. I don’t like to start eating until everyone has their food. Pleasant staff and nice atmosphere….

Excellent lunch enjoyed with a large family group on Saturday. Our waiter was absolutely fantastic. The venue feels spacious and comfortable. We will definitely be back!

The Cambscuisine group is local to us and we thought we’d give this venue a try for our wedding anniversary, but wish we’d stuck with what we know! We were welcomed by a lovely young man who took us to our table. Someone then came to ask if we’d been offered water, we said no, and ordered water. The menus were on the table and someone said they’d bring the specials board, but it never arrived. We were asked if we wanted to order drinks. My husband enquired about the different beers and the server was not really able to articulate the differences, just stated what he liked. We ordered the food and that’s really when it all started to go downhill. The service was VERY slow throughout the evening! The starters were nice but £8.50 or thereabouts for 2 scallops and two slices of roasted peach seemed a little high.. the southern-fried chicken wings were delicious though. I ordered the 10oz sirloin steak, at £34 and asked for it medium-rare. When it arrived, I would question the weight but it was the worst-looking piece of meat I’ve ever seen served in a restaurant and it was completely over-cooked, wasn’t seasoned and just did not look appealing. We had the 5 minute check where I flagged the issue… server offered to get it replaced but my husband refused as already eating so it was just going to be a nuisance and his food would have been cold by the time mine arrived, so I politely declined. My husband had the venison haunch which contained black pudding pieces which were so hard they were completely inedible! Again, we flagged this when they cleared our plates and server said he’d flag it with the kitchen. My husband ordered a bottle of wine and we did think it odd that just a glass was delivered to the table. We ordered a bottle as it works out more cost-effective. Server asked if he’d like a refill and we said ‘oh, we thought we’d ordered a bottle, to which he said, oh, sorry and then took ages to return with the bottle, by which time the main course was finished! We ordered puddings. The sticky toffee pudding is their signature pudding and laughed that we rate this across the CC venues. It was disappointing, not very sticky and the sauce was watery. The Cambridge burnt cream was nice. Coffee arrived, no sugar or milk offered and no little chocolate or biscuit, all seemed a bit odd and could not catch the eye of anyone to get any. Our server was a bit like marmite, my husband liked his quirkiness but I found it to be a like off-hand and not particularly friendly… We asked for the bill and it then took ages to arrive then another lengthy delay before someone coming over with a card machine. Overall a disappointing evening in terms of the food, and whilst it has a nice setting, I would not go back, and not even a concession on the bill for the awful steak and venison dish with hard bullet-like pieces of black pudding.

Would have got 5 for food, but Hispi and layered potatoes were undercooked. However rest of our meals were excellent!

Food good but sevive indifferent. Waited too long on arrival for a member of staff to acknowledge our presence. No real welcome. Service slow enough though restaurant was not busy. Have eaten at the Tickell Arms several times before and had a much better experience.

Delicious food from the new menu. Slightly delayed main course, but our waitress was all over it, replenished our drinks and provided complimentary nibbles. The food was worth the slight delay. Excellent food and service.

Our waiter was lovely, but we were offered still or sparkling water for it then to be added to the bill. Food was nothing more than what I could’ve prepared myself from the frozen isle at Tesco. Waited 40 mins for some Camembert and bread, and then the main took another 30 mins after that, for them then to add 10% service charge to the bill.

All round good lunch experience

This is our second visit to the Tickell Arms and we couldn't resist ordering the same meals. Again, they were delicious, the service friendly and the atmosphere beautiful. Would highly recommend!

Excellent sunday roast; tender and succulent Sirloin cut and well cooked pork belly. Vegetables and potatoes are perfectly cooked. James; the manager and Charlotte took care of us very well. The atmosphere is excellent.

Lovely location. Nice atmosphere. But let down by overall quality of food and, in particular, difficulty in providing gluten-free and dairy free options. Items (eg Yorkshire pudding, cauliflower cheese) were simply omitted from meals for those members of our group who asked for GF/DF options. But still charged full price. Better advice before ordering would have allowed other meal choices to be made. Slow service - booked for 1.45, main course arrived 3.30.

Amazing atmosphere. Service was ok only, we were in the sun, on a hot day, and they didn't seem very active to sort out an umbrella from empty tables into ours but suggested we did it (I would expect this to be done by staff not a customer). Veggie roast was ok but maybe overpriced for 20£, steak was not bad but a bit overpriced. Menu selection on the short side for a "gourmet" pub.

Very expensive given the quality of the food. This was a return visit for us and the quality and portion size has deteriorated massively. There are many better pubs in the area, serving better food for a cheaper price. The pub that said is nice and the service ok.

Returned for a second visit this week for Sunday lunch. It will certainly be our last visit. To start with the positives, it’s a nice pub with attentive staff. The food is very overpriced and poor quality. The sharer roast dinners are meagre and poorly cooked, the beef was in some places, raw. I think we had 4 small potatoes between two of us. Frankly, there are many pubs in the area that would offer a better meal for two thirds of the price.

After reading many positive reviews thought I and my husband would go for a roast.but very Dissapointed beef cooked superbly but the meal was not served hot, just warm . the yorkshire pudding was very overdone and potatoes on the hard side.horseradish was put on the plate think this should be pointed out when ordering as I hate the smell and taste of it.

Had a very pleasant lunch with colleagues from London. Sat on the terrace which was ideal. Food was excellent. Service very efficient and friendly. Happy to visit again!

We went for Lunch with an old friend. It is part of the Cambscuisine Group who have an excellent Loyalty Programme. It is situated in a lovely South Cambs Village and set in a beautiful light and airy old building with lovely gardens and a good sized Car Park. Very popular and atmospheric. Their Menu is similar to the Group’s Menu with a few individual items. The standard of food was very good. Whilst good the standard of service was not as good as their Three Horseshoes in Madingley. Would definitely come again

Service slow, food formulaic and ‘fully priced’. Smells of gravy granules. Certainly not a ‘gastro pub’, more a second rate restaurant. I wouldn’t bother again.

Food is really good. Garden was great for after dinner drinks. The prices were towards the top end of reasonable. Staff were very attentive and professional.

Had gone there for a team lunch. The fish was great (my colleagues had it). Food and service was nice. And good number of parking spaces available as well.

Delicious food and a beautiful relaxed setting. We always try to sit outside by the pond with the fish swimming around beneath us in the sun. Probably the most beautiful and relaxed spot to eat delicious food in south Cambs… the pies and guinea foul are both great!

Lovely meals in an amazing restaurant

Not quite what it was. Lovely atmosphere and great staff, but as with many places the quality of the food has gone down whilst the prices have gone up. £10 for four slices of bread and a handful of olives. Watery risotto which had nice ingredients in, just not enough of them. Still a great place to go, and a thumbs up for having carafes of wine available as well as full bottles, but someone in the background is thinking too hard about profit margins and not enough about the food.

Lovely looking venue. Pleasant serving staff. However very long wait for main course, we had clearly been forgotten. Consequently the food was disappointing and spoilt the evening for us. Once you need to remind staff about your order the experience is spoiled. More training on dealing with orders is needed from management.

Our local pub, in itself lovely as usual, shame the staff does not know how to make cocktail, inconcistent every time. Please stop offering them if do not know how to make it. Pornstar martiny comes with prosecco shot, if your pub doesn't not offer it in this version at least be consistent and do not tell the customer 'we don't' if several weeks ago you did. Does make you feel unwelcome

This is generally the best restaurant I have very been to. The manger was very handsome and polite. The food was too die for. I would come again.

Great beergarden, dog friendly, super duper cosy inside the pub. Great address, I need to go back and try out the food. Good choice of drinks too.

Great place for a meal out, attentive staff and delicious food

The whole event went smoothly from communication to the day and how we were hosted by the restaurant. They were very understanding of change of people and accommodate what we needed. In general, as before, i was very happy with the service we received from The Tickell Arms.

Lovely environment, food was amazing, and pricing was reasonable.

Very disappointed, pie looked mass produced and full of gristle. The herb mash was tasty, but so full of garlic, I was still enjoying it that evening. And all in all felt the meal was not value for money.

Great Sunday roast and lovely pub

Visited with the family, in a rainy day after a day trip to Duxford IWM. Mains were tasty, but nothing spectacular. Deserts were bellow expectations, particularly the chocolate delice. Service was nice, very polite waiters, but the wait for all the dishes was horrendous. The backgardem with the pond offers nice views, and expect it to be amazing in a dry day. Due to the long waiting times and nothing spectacular in the food section I do not recommend the venue.

Absolutely totally and utterly satisfied, we were disappointed that the burger didn't come with chips, but the more we ate the less we cared- standard burger and a Mac and cheese from the bar menu and we're stuffed- divine dining and a great drinks selection, very dog friendly and a separate doggy food menu which is such a nice touch- amazing service and to top it off the heaters stay on beyond your departure- no need to press the button every 5 seconds. Incredible happy with everything from start to finish, speedy delivery on the food and just a lovely place to sit and eat. Menu prices are scary at first but actually very very reasonable for what you get. Will definitely be coming back.

I visited this picturesque restaurant again with my girlfriend. The menu was beautifully presented and it was clear that it was of a higher class of gastronomy. The staff were truly professional and friendly. I had an amazing bone-in steak with peppercorn sauce, arugula salad with parmesan, and homemade fries as a side. My girlfriend had an incredible burger. The meat in both dishes was excellent. The dry-aged steak cooked to a perfect rare was exactly as it should be, and it was evident that the kitchen team is also professional. I highly recommend everyone to visit this restaurant and enjoy the wonderful atmosphere and food. We look forward to our next visit. Delicious food,nice place, friendly personal 🙂

Wonderful pub with excellent food, friendly staff and a menu for dogs!

We stopped by for drinks at the Tickell Arms while visiting friends in Cambridge. A nice pub which offers dining too. There are several rooms on the ground floor where the bar is situated. They also have an outdoor seating area. We enjoyed several drinks including a bottle Red Wine. A nice place to meet friends for drinks.

We found this pub after visiting Duxford. Lovely place, nice atmosphere and 5* service. I highly recommend sitting outside, a stunning garden. Whatever you order you won't be disappointed. The prices are a bit higher but it's worth it. Food is amazing and very well presented.

We visited for Mother’s Day. I had a roast dinner which was nice, however roast potatoes were still quite hard. Staff not overly attentive- had to ask again for water, we were not asked if we would like anymore drinks, we were asked if the food was ok after a mouthful though so that was attentive. There were 2 adults and 2 children. We had one main each and 2 children’s desserts. Drinks were paid at the bar upon arrival. We Did not get a bill, we had to ask and pay before we left. My partner was charged £59 plus a £40 deposit paid when booking not sure what we spent £60 on. Also the Tickell had announced on their Facebook “We also have a little something in store for all the mums as an extra treat” which was a nice gesture but I did not receive anything. This is our local, but disappointed at the service this time. I must add, the young lady working behind the bar was and always is very friendly.

We tried the game starters but weren’t impressed, however the mains and puddings were so delicious they definitely made up for it. Service was a bit slow but considering how busy it was I am sure they did their best.

We eat a good meal in the extension. The staff were welcoming and efficient. I had a beef parcel. It was ok but too much pastry for me. There was a vegetarian option which my friend had but it had deep fried cauliflower. Dessert was cheesecake which was creamy but a bit bland. The chocolate delice my ground had she said was delicious. The atmosphere would have been better in the pub part

I honestly loved this place, food was exemplary and so was the service. The sticky toffee pudding with ice cream was absolutely amazing and so were the other foods. The decor is also really first class. I would love to come here again.

Food was excellent! Automatic Service charge? Really ... The service was the minimum expected. You took a food order, served, asked once if everything was ok. Then there's a charity contribution on the bill too. If it's the business wanting to give to charity, do so, but automatically adding this to customers bills doesn't feel right and shouldn't be expected imo.
